When choosing upholstery for chairs, you need to take into account many factors: from the purpose of use to personal preferences. Each fabric has its own pros and cons.
- Flock.
This is one of the most wear-resistant, durable and practical non-woven materials, which consists of 30 percent cotton and 70 percent synthetic. Externally it looks very attractive due to its velvety surface. The admixture of synthetics makes it very durable; flock is not harmed even by the main pests of home furniture: cats and dogs.
- Jacquard.
Typically, the fabric consists of half cotton and half synthetic, unless you consider natural jacquard, which is made almost entirely of cotton. Jacquard fabric is durable, externally it is smooth, dense and durable. It is easy to care for: just vacuuming and wiping with a damp sponge is enough. Based on the method of applying the design, fabric is divided into woven and printed. Jacquard with a woven pattern is considered to be of higher quality than with a printed one. Most often, jacquard upholstery fabric is used in classic-style kitchen furniture.
- Tapestry.

The fabric is highly durable and elastic, easy to sew and glue. The fabric feels soft and pleasant to the touch. However, it is flammable and afraid of water: moisture can deform the material. - Faux suede.
This is a cotton paper or silk fabric with a pile on the front side. - Cut out parts from foam rubber and synthetic padding strictly to the size of the seat. You can make a template from cardboard in advance.
- Using furniture glue, secure the cut pieces to the base of the seat. We lay the synthetic winterizer on the foam rubber with the rough side. When additionally using spunbond, cut it with a margin. Place it on top of the padding polyester and secure it at the back of the base with a construction gun or stapler.
When re-upholstering a chair, you do not need to sew anything special in advance. After making a soft “cushion” for the seat, you can immediately begin stretching the fabric. There is also a certain sequence of actions here:
- Secure the fabric at the front in the middle, pull it tight and secure at the back in the center.
- Do the same procedure on the right and left.
- Next, begin to gradually fix the remaining part of the loose fabric. Do everything slowly, alternating the sides of the stretch.
