Bathroom accessories: the best ideas for creating a cozy bathroom

Well, the bathroom renovation is complete and, it would seem, you can enjoy the fruits of your own labor. But for some reason we don’t have the feeling of comfort that we so strived for. Oh, yes, of course, we miss all sorts of little things that should always be at hand. Bathroom accessories needed.

It is thanks to small fixtures and design elements that that very atmosphere of comfort is created, when everything is in its place, and there seems to be nothing superfluous. It is these small details that can breathe life into such a functional room and make it a real center of power in your home: with their help, you can recharge your morning energy every day and shake off evening fatigue.

What does this concept include?

Accessories for the bathroom and toilet include a wide variety of items that increase the comfort of hygiene procedures and fit well into the overall interior of the room. The main ones can be considered soap dishes and containers that serve as a stand for toothbrushes. If you choose unusually shaped products, you can improve the overall appearance of the bathroom.

Original bathroom accessories

The concept of “bathroom accessories” also includes hooks, soap dispensers, towel holders, toilet brushes, shelves for small items and a host of other items that help rationally and conveniently arrange the necessary accessories in a small bathroom.

Towel holders

An indispensable element in any bathroom. There are floor and wall models. The former are suitable for spacious rooms, while the latter look better in a small bathroom.

Options with ring bars are more convenient than traditional hooks. they can significantly improve the organization of space in small bathrooms.

What furniture and accessories are needed for the bathroom?

The main accessories that no bathroom would be complete without are:

  • mirror;
  • towels;
  • toothbrush stand;
  • towel holder;
  • hangers and hooks;
  • lighting;
  • bathroom curtain and cornice;
  • soap dish, liquid soap dispenser;
  • toilet paper holder.

It is desirable that all these items are not just functional, but also fit into the overall interior of the room. Placing so many accessories in a small room can be a difficult task, but with the help of ergonomics - the science of rationally arranging the required volume of objects in a limited space - this will be quite easy.

Accessories should be combined with the overall style of the bathroom

Towels

It's hard to imagine a bathroom without towels. This textile product is necessary for comfortable completion of water procedures. It can also become a decorative element for the room. To choose a towel that meets all the requirements, you must first decide for what purpose it will be intended.

Bright towels as an interior accent in the bathroom

Bath towels are large-sized products with long pile. The most suitable fiber length is 5 mm. Fluffier towels quickly become unsightly in appearance: the fibers wrinkle, get tangled, and easily cling to objects. Products with short pile have a shorter service life - after just a few washes they become hard, and it is inconvenient and unpleasant to wipe with them.

High pile bath towels

Another parameter that you should pay attention to when choosing is density. A value of at least 470 g/m² is considered optimal. Products of this density have good absorbent properties and will keep their shape even after numerous washes. You should not choose towels that are too dense - they require more care: they take longer to dry and are more difficult to wash.

Choose towels with a density of 470 g/m²

For the face, it is recommended to purchase a towel with a lower density, which is softer, and for the legs, it is more rigid. How many towels should you have in your bathroom accessories set at all times? It is easy to calculate the required value. A towel is an item for individual use; it should be personal to each family member. You will need separate towels for the face, for the body (bath), for the feet, for intimate hygiene - this is a minimum, mandatory set. Ideally, it’s worth highlighting one more thing, for the hands. Thus, for a family of 3 people, you will need at least 12 (ideally 16) pieces. Placing such a quantity of textiles in a small bathroom in a standard apartment is, of course, an almost impossible task. Therefore, most often they use individual towels for the face, which are also used to wipe the hands, a common towel for the feet, and several large bath towels.

Placing towels in the bathroom

Designer advice: it is advisable to choose towels that match the rest of the textiles in the bathroom. For example, against the background of a scarlet bath curtain and a coral-colored rug, crimson will look good. By the way, instead of hanging towels on hooks and hangers the old fashioned way, you can pay attention to interesting design solutions that will help you place the right amount of textiles in a small space.

Curtain for the bathroom

A bath curtain is one of the main bathroom accessories. It performs several tasks at once: it protects the floor and walls of the room from splashes of water, protects the rug from getting wet, reducing the cleaning process after taking a shower, and also has a decorative function. A correctly selected curtain can transform a bathroom beyond recognition.

A shower curtain can transform your bathroom

Since this accessory is always in sight and catches the eye of every person who enters the room, it is worth paying more attention to the choice of this product. Since the curtain occupies a fairly large area of the bathroom, when choosing, it is recommended to take into account the color scheme of the entire room. There can be two options: the curtain is chosen to match the finishing materials (tiles or panels) or they prefer a product in a contrasting color in order to emphasize this accessory.

Curtain for the bathroom as an interior accent

To find a color that will look harmonious with the rest of the decor, you can use the chromatic circle.

The second thing you need to pay attention to is the type of material. A strong and durable curtain is one that is made of textiles treated with a special impregnating compound that prevents the product from getting wet. Such an accessory will last much longer than an oilcloth curtain, and caring for it is even easier - if necessary, place the curtain in the drum of the washing machine and turn on the delicate wash cycle.

Curtain made of water-repellent textiles

Bath mat

A rug on the floor is an essential attribute of a set of bathroom accessories. It is necessary to protect your feet from the cold of the tiles after a shower, and the product can also serve as an additional decoration if you choose it correctly.

The rug can serve as an additional decoration for the bathroom

A few tips to help you purchase a high-quality and beautiful rug:

  • It is worth choosing it, paying attention to the entire furnishings of the room - the design, shape and color should be in harmony with the overall interior.

Bath mat matches the interior

  • A good bath mat is fluffy, soft, and highly absorbent.

The bath mat should absorb moisture well

  • To simplify the task, you can buy a set consisting of the mat itself and a textile bath curtain - in this case, the products have already been carefully selected, all that remains is to place them in their places.

Curtain and bath mat in the same style

If your wall decoration or decorations (for example, a painting) contain geometric patterns, it is recommended to choose a rug that also has them. It is also desirable that the entire interior in this case be made in light colors - then the contrasting geometric pattern will act as a bright accent.

Bath mat with contrasting geometric pattern

To choose the tone of the product that fits perfectly into the bathroom design, you can use a chromatic circle. However, in most cases, the usual combinations are also suitable when the color of the product matches or is close to the tile (for example, for brown - chocolate, for blue - light blue, for green - light green) or, on the contrary, sharply contrasts with it (the tile is white and the rug is black ).

Color range of bathroom accessories

Manufacturing materials

The overall style of the bathroom interior is largely determined by the materials from which the accessories and finishing elements are made. Basically, manufacturers use plastic, metal, glass and ceramics for this, and a little less often they use hardwood. To ensure that every detail of the decor matches the chosen style, when choosing accessories you should definitely take into account the material of manufacture, its pros and cons.

Type of materialMain characteristics of products
MetalFor the manufacture of metal objects, stainless steel, brass, and bronze are used. Most of these products have a chrome coating, which makes it easier to clean the surface from dirt and gives things a more aesthetic appearance. Chrome racks, holders, hangers easily fit into modern interiors and suit almost any style. Premium accessories are gold-plated, making them look very impressive and more solid.
CeramicsCeramic accessories are distinguished by refined simplicity and elegance. Smooth lines, deep colors, and ergonomic shape of the products provide them with stable demand in the plumbing products market. The assortment is constantly expanding with new collections; the variety of sets on store shelves meets the most demanding tastes. Caring for ceramic items is very simple: just wipe the surface with a clean damp cloth. You cannot use abrasive products for cleaning, so as not to spoil the glossy finish. When choosing ceramics, you should remember that such products are very easy to damage or break, and therefore it is better not to buy them for those who have small children
GlassGlass accessories never go out of style. Thanks to the transparency of the material, these products are ideal for minimalist bathrooms and small spaces. They create an effect of lightness, even weightlessness, and do not overload the interior with unnecessary details. Glass can be either transparent or colored, matte, with a pattern, with a rough coating, in the form of stained glass. Disadvantages include the high cost of products and the fragility of the material.
Plastic, acrylicPlastic accessories are the most popular. First of all, they are inexpensive. Secondly, it is plastic products that have the greatest variety of shapes, colors and design solutions. Thirdly, plastic is rarely damaged by falls or impacts, unlike glass and ceramics. Of course, in order for these items to serve for a long time, you need to choose accessories made of high-quality plastic from trusted manufacturers. Acrylic is a type of plastic, but higher quality and more expensive. Acrylic products are much stronger, more durable than conventional plastic, and have high decorative properties.

Tree

Wooden elements in bathrooms are used less frequently, due to the characteristics of the material. As a rule, wooden accessories are chosen if wood is present in the decoration of the bathroom, or if there is an imitation of it (for example, plastic lining “like wood”). To ensure that products last a long time, manufacturers treat the material with special compounds, and use only hardwood. The assortment is quite wide: soap dishes, all kinds of stands and holders, foot mats, cup holders, boxes for storing linen, mirror frames, decorative elements. Caring for them is not difficult, although there are certain rules. Wooden surfaces should be washed without abrasives or chemicals, and excessive moisture should be avoided

To improve performance characteristics, manufacturers are increasingly combining materials with each other. Chromed metal with glass, gilded brass with ceramics, ceramics with natural wood look very impressive.

Important little things

Simple but important little things will help to add coziness, complement and enliven the bathroom interior:

  • indoor flowers;
  • wicker laundry baskets;
  • decorative candles.

With the right approach, a set of bathroom accessories can transform the interior beyond recognition.

Wicker baskets can become not just a place to store dirty laundry, but also a decorative element for the room.

Wicker baskets for bathroom decor

Depending on the design style of the bathroom itself, you can use products made in a classical style or original, unusual shapes: baskets can be made in the shape of a dolphin, a cartoon character (if children live in the house), or other figures.

Wicker baskets in the bathroom interior

To create coziness in the bathroom, you can use a wide variety of things - with the right approach, even body, hair and skin care products can serve this purpose. Modern cosmetics are often produced in beautiful packaging. A series of products placed on open shelves will be the finishing touch to the bathroom interior.

Beautiful decorative cosmetics, can also become a bathroom decoration

Ventilation and heating

Ventilation

Regardless of whether the bathroom has a window or not, you must ensure that the room is properly ventilated to more effectively maintain the desired temperature and humidity. A poorly ventilated room is not only a risk of mold and mildew, but also higher costs for the heat needed for heating.

Doors and ventilation

They are of great importance for air movement. The door must be equipped with a ventilation part, usually mounted at the bottom of the door leaf. Ventilation grilles, round holes and a gap of several centimeters between the lower edge of the sash and the floor (the so-called ventilation undercut) work well in this role.

Window

It's a good idea to install a window with ventilation holes in the bathroom - they will allow you to ventilate the room even more effectively.

Heating

There are currently two models of bathroom heating in use.

  • Staircase radiator - this popular heating model not only provides the desired temperature in the room, but also acts as a heated towel rail and allows you to quickly dry the necessary textiles. Otherwise known as a bathroom heater.
  • Underfloor heating - unlike a radiator, distributes warm air evenly throughout the room. Before making this decision, find out, for example, whether you are sensitive to this type of heat source. It happens that constant direct contact with a heated floor can be simply tiring.

Rules for choosing furniture and accessories for the bathroom

There are several rules that will help you choose not only beautiful, but also functional accessories. Thus, the color of the products can be almost any, but white accessories should be purchased carefully - you may not guess the shade. Then they, placed in a small room, will look inappropriate to each other, which will lead to a disruption in the harmonious appearance of the bathroom. The most popular bathroom colors are: blue, green, blue, orange, gray, lilac, chocolate and red.

Bathroom accessories in white colors

Since accessories are items that will be used frequently, it is advisable to purchase high-quality ones that will not lose their attractive appearance after a short period of use.

Preference should be given to those products that are made of materials that are resistant to moisture and sudden temperature changes. They should not become moldy or rust over time. It is important that the material is safe for human health and does not emit harmful substances.

Bathroom accessories in white colors

Ceramics fully meets all these requirements. In addition, ceramic products have the ability to look great in any interior. Another option is bronze accessories. This material is also resistant to external adverse influences, but requires more careful care. You need to understand that bronze accessories are quite expensive and look most advantageous in a room decorated in a classic style.

Bath accessories must be resistant to temperature changes

The most affordable material for bathroom and toilet accessories that meets all requirements is chrome steel. Products made from it are affordable for almost everyone and have excellent performance properties. The surface can be either shiny or matte, so the accessories will look great in any interior. They are durable, resistant to external influences, durable.

Glass accessories are very interesting to look at, beautiful, suitable for a bathroom in any style, however, traces of water drops are noticeable on their surface, so you will need to constantly monitor the cleanliness of such products.

Plastic accessories are not the best choice. Their low cost does not compensate for the inconveniences that arise during the operation of such items.

Style, material and colors

In addition to resistance to the harmful effects of the environment on bathroom accessories, it is necessary to take into account the combination of design solutions and overall stylistic harmony. Purchases must match each other and not stand out from the general range in color or shape. An item can be beautiful and stylish in itself, but in combination with other existing furnishings it can cause dissonance and rejection.

In a classic interior, a mirror is often used as the main decorative element.

It is advisable to take into account the opinions of all family members in order to avoid future unnecessary scandals due to differences in preferences.

In a spacious room, a floor hanger, selected in the appropriate style direction, looks original

A classic bathroom design option is a color scheme reminiscent of seascapes and ships, combining delicate shades of blue and white with the chrome shine of polished sanitary ware and holders. Various experiments with radical black color are popular. The possibilities are limited only by the imagination and sense of taste of the designer.

Style selection

The interior of the bathroom should be in harmony with the decor of the entire apartment.

It is quite difficult to choose decor for the bathroom of a house decorated in the styles of the 17th-18th centuries (classicism, baroque, rococo), since in those days there were no separate bathrooms, hygiene procedures were performed directly in the boudoir or bedrooms. Therefore, in order to maintain the style, it is better for owners of apartments made in the listed styles to contact interior specialists.

The most popular and easy to implement with your own hands design options: marine, minimalism and ethno.

Sea style

“Accessories for the bathroom and toilet in such an interior may not have a clearly nautical theme”

It cannot be called a historical tradition; rather, it is the fruit of a designer’s imagination. This interior can also be complemented with elements from Provence or country. A distinctive feature of the marine style is the freedom in the selection of furniture and accessories for the bathroom. There are no strict rules here. The only condition that is recommended to be met is to choose which interpretation of this direction they will adhere to: old or modern, but not to mix both.

Bathroom accessories in a nautical style

The main color scheme of the room, decorated in a marine style, is white with splashes of blue. Accessories for the bathroom and toilet in such an interior may not have a clearly marine theme (with images of shells, anchors, ships), you can do without specific images at all, and use only colors, ornaments and marine stripes.

Minimalism

The interior of a minimalist bathroom is simple and not overloaded with details. Here it is better to abandon bright spots and frilly decor. The color scheme can be black and white or in calm natural shades. Furniture has simple shapes, with straight lines and clear corners.

Bathroom in minimalist style

Based on this, they select furniture and accessories for the bathroom - they should not be conspicuous. Everything is functional and as discreet as possible, as if dissolved in the surroundings. It is advisable to purchase products from transparent materials, possibly supplemented with chrome parts. The most suitable: stone, glass, plastic or ceramics.

Ethnic style

It will appeal to people who love original and unique interiors. Accessories for a room made in ethno style must be purchased taking into account the peculiarities of the national color. A rich selection opens up space for self-expression.

Bathroom accessories in ethnic style

Other possible options: modern, high-tech, antiquity, constructivism or art deco. With the help of your own imagination, attention to detail and a sense of proportion, you can create a unique and memorable interior that will be cozy and pleasant to be in.

Choosing the color of accessories

There is no need to remind you what an important role colors play in the life of any person. Some inspire him, others can plunge him into long-term depression. Therefore, when choosing accessories, let’s pay attention to this characteristic:

  • Green. If the room is designed in green, then an atmosphere of calm and tranquility has already been created in it. It is better not to irritate it with metallic shine. Pleasant white and brown ceramics are a great color choice for most accessories in a green room.
  • Red. In a room with such bright and exciting energy, you can add versatile white and silver details. They will serve as a kind of compensator for wild colors.
  • Blue, blue. These cool colors are often used to embody a nautical theme. Accessories in sandy yellow, grey, white and silver will create the desired naval order. A few bright spots in the interior will only decorate the room.
  • Black. As a rule, black bathrooms require very spacious rooms. In this case, they look luxurious, not gloomy. Of course, black goes well with red, sand, white, gold and silver. Details in these colors will be a wonderful addition and a real designer highlight.

Of course, not only monochromatic, but also colored sets are used. They delight the eyes and the heart. But do not forget that they simply must fit harmoniously into the style of the room you have chosen.

White accessories look great in a green bathroom: they refresh the interior, making it lighter, more positive and more attractive.

Without a doubt, this interior belongs to the “luxury” class. This black bathroom with gold, silver and white accessories is simply stunning.

Rules for placing bathroom accessories

Bathroom accessories can be of two types: table-top or wall-mounted.

The main part of the items is placed around the sink. If the dimensions of the bathroom allow you to install a washbasin with a countertop instead of a regular sink, then there will be no problems with the arrangement of accessories.

Traditional arrangement of accessories on the bathroom countertop

When the area of the room is limited, you have to find other ways to place accessories. Then sets of bathroom accessories in the form of multi-systems come to the rescue. Thus, a soap dish, a toothbrush stand and a liquid soap dispenser can be combined in a single device. There are other types of multi-systems: if you search in plumbing stores, you can find something that suits a specific room.

Hanging system for accessories

A mirror is usually hung above the sink. To make it more convenient to store cosmetics, you should instead purchase a special cabinet in which you can easily fit all these items, with a mirror located on the outside of the door. It is advisable to put everything that does not fit in it in a bedside table or other closed cabinet.

Cabinet with mirror for bathroom accessories

Spacious corner shelves hung above the bathtub are an excellent place to store shampoos, washcloths and all other household chemicals. Bathroom shelves come in a wide variety of shapes: rectangular, multi-tiered, semicircular, and even for placement on the edge of the bathtub.

Ergonomic corner shelves for the bathroom

You need to carefully consider the layout of accessories so that you can get and put away the necessary items without effort, and at the same time, the walls of the room would not be completely covered with shelves.

Slingshots are convenient and functional swivel towel holders: they can be used not only for hanging textiles. If necessary, they can turn into a dryer - you just need to turn the rods in different directions. When folded, they will be compact and will not take up much space.

Convenient swivel towel holder

If there is no podium under the bathroom, then this free space can also be used. There you can put basins, large packs of washing powder, a plunger and many other items necessary in everyday life, but not desirable for prying eyes. To prevent the storage area under the bathroom from attracting attention, it is worth covering it with a special screen with retractable doors.

Under bath storage system

The variety of designs and shapes of accessories can be confusing, so the process of choosing the right items can turn into quite a daunting task. With all the abundance, it can be difficult to choose what will harmoniously fit into the interior of a particular room. But maintaining style is very important. It is best to purchase accessories that are part of the same collection as the sanitary ware installed in the bathroom. Then the interior is guaranteed to look like a single composition, all elements will complement each other and look stylish.

To ensure that your bathroom is decorated in the same style, purchase accessories from the same collection.

Methods for attaching wall accessories

When the choice is made and all the accessories are purchased, all that remains is to attach them. Unfortunately, many people unknowingly make annoying mistakes, as a result of which shelves and hooks fall off, and everything that was held on them ends up on the floor. To prevent this from happening to you, please read the instructions below carefully.

Fastening products with suction cups

Beautiful bath accessories with suction cups

Nowadays, many manufacturers produce wall accessories with vacuum suction cups, which allow you to securely secure objects on any flat surface. This method is considered the simplest, although not always reliable. Suitable for walls lined with tiles, porcelain stoneware, plastic panels. Do not use on plastered walls, surfaces with defects, or corrugated tiles.

Option 1. Attaching a separate hook

Step 1. Choose a place on the wall to place the hook and, using detergent, thoroughly clean this area of dirt. Rinse with clean water and wipe dry.

Step 2. Take the hook in your hands and, in one careful movement, remove the protective film from the suction cup. You cannot touch the edges of the suction cup with your fingers, since sweat from the skin when it gets on the silicone reduces the tightness of the seal.

Advice. If you accidentally stain the silicone ring, you need to rinse it thoroughly with running water and dry it. This will not reduce the quality of adhesion.

Step 3. In one precise movement, apply the hook to the attachment point and press firmly to the surface. Be sure to make sure that the hook is pointed in the right direction, since you won’t be able to turn it around later.

Step 4. Hold the product with one hand, and with the other begin to twist the cap located in the center. You need to turn it clockwise until it stops.

After this, the hook can be used for its intended purpose.

Option 2. Mounting the shelf with suction cups

Now let's look at how to fix a metal lattice shelf for a bathroom on the wall using the same method.

ImageStep by step description

Step 1

The wall is cleaned, degreased, and wiped dry. Measure the distance between the loops of the holders on the hanger and make marks on the wall at the same distance using a level.
Step 2Unscrew the cap on the suction cup and insert it into the loop of the holder
Step 3Holding the suction cup with one hand, put a spacer ring on it from the front side of the shelf, then a cap and screw it on a little. Repeat the same steps for the second suction cup
Step 4Carefully remove the protective film from the back of the suction cups, and then apply the product to the points marked on the wall. Suction cups can be applied alternately if the shelf is long. The most important thing is not to move them after the initial adhesion.

Now all that remains is to press the silicone ring tightly to the surface and screw the cap tightly, and then repeat the same procedure on the other side of the shelf. As a rule, products from well-known brands last a very long time using this fastening method, which cannot be said about the low-quality consumer goods that have filled the markets. Therefore, if you are not sure of the quality of the purchased accessories, it is better to fasten them with dowels - this will be much more reliable.

Installation of accessories using drilling

Option 1. On tiles and porcelain stoneware

Most often, the walls in the bathroom are tiled. To hang accessories on such a surface, you need to know how to properly drill holes for dowels in the tile. Incorrect actions can lead to damage to the cladding, because ceramics is a fairly fragile material. The same applies to porcelain tiles, which, although harder than tiles, can crack when drilled.

First you need to choose the right drill bits. For tiles, special spear-shaped drills are used, which allow you to make a hole up to 12 mm in diameter. They are not suitable for a concrete base, so you will additionally need a standard Pobedit drill. Both drills should be the same diameter and 1-2 mm larger than the diameter of the dowel. Since porcelain stoneware is much harder than tiles, other drills are used for it - diamond or carbide with one-sided sharpening. Finding them is not difficult: in any hardware store, just ask for drills for tiles and porcelain stoneware.

You can drill holes in ceramics only at low speeds (800-1000/60s). The impact mode cannot be used, otherwise the tiles will certainly crack. When drilling, the metal and material heat up, which also leads to damage to the lining, and therefore, during operation, the tip of the drill should be regularly cooled by dipping it in cold water. If you have never had to drill tiles before, it is advisable to take a few fragments left over from repairs and practice on them. You need to place a piece of wooden block or a piece of thick board under the tiles so as not to damage the floor. If the result is positive, you can begin installing accessories.

Before starting work, be sure to check whether electrical cables, gas or water pipes pass under the tiles. This is a very important condition, treat it with full responsibility. Hidden wiring and pipelines can be detected with an electronic detector, which you can purchase at any hardware store.

Finding hidden electrical wiring using devices

Step 1. Decide on the location of the accessory on the wall. Place orientation marks with a marker. Take a building level and apply it to the marks, if necessary, adjust them horizontally or vertically (depending on the type of product).

Step 2. Place a small piece of masking tape over the marks to prevent the drill from slipping. If the marks are hard to see, duplicate them with a marker on the tape.

Advice. It is more convenient to make holes in the seams between the tiles, and the diameter of the drill should not exceed the width of the seam. If the dimensions of the products do not coincide with the seams, they must be marked so that the hole in each tile is located at a distance of at least 15 mm from its edge.

Step 3. Select a tile drill according to the size of the dowel and insert it into the chuck of a drill or screwdriver.

Selecting drill diameter

Features of choosing the drill length for a specific dowel length

Step 4. Place the drill perpendicular to the wall, exactly in the center of the mark. There is no need to press hard, the main thing is that the tip of the drill is pressed tightly to the surface. Turn the drill on to minimum power and start drilling. While working, try to keep the drill in one position, avoiding moving the drill.

How to drill through ceramic tiles. Four ways

Step 5: Once you've drilled through the tile, turn off the drill and swap the spear bit for a pobedite bit.

Lance-shaped and pobedite drills

The recess in the wall must correspond to the length of the dowel into which the screw will be screwed. You need to drill again at low speeds, keeping the tool from swinging.

Step 6. The finished hole is cleaned of dust, after which a plastic dowel is inserted into it. Very carefully hammer it in until it stops, avoiding excessive vibration from impacts. Now you can screw in the screws or hooks on which the selected accessory will be attached.

Installation of dowel hooks

Option 2. Painted walls

If the walls in the bathroom are not tiled, but simply painted, it will be easier to hang accessories. Here you will also need a drill, but only one drill is needed - a Pobedit one. This is the best option for concrete and brick walls. Let's look at the example of installing a glass shelf.

ImageStep by step description
Step 1On the bathroom wall, choose a place for a shelf and mark the location of the fasteners, guided by the level
Step 2Take a drill corresponding to the diameter of the dowel and drill holes in the marked places. To get the job done faster, it is recommended to use the shock mode. Such vibrations are not dangerous for a painted surface.
Step 3Insert the dowels and carefully hammer it into the hole until it stops, flush with the wall.
Step 4Unscrew the drill from the drill chuck and replace it with a metal screw from the set of fasteners from the shelf
Step 5Place the end of the screw against the hole and screw it inward at the lowest speed of the drill. The edge of the screw should protrude 20 mm from the wall
Step 6Place the washer from the kit on the protruding end of the screw, and then screw on the metal bracket. The rest of the shelf brackets are installed in the same way.
Step 7Check the horizontal position of the brackets by placing a building level on top. All fasteners must be located in the same horizontal plane, otherwise the shelf will be unreliable
Step 8Place glass shelves on the brackets and level them on the sides using a level.

This way you can attach any accessory to the wall, replacing the brackets with screws or hooks. If during the work the paint around the holes peels off, scratches appear on it, and this defect is clearly visible, it does not matter. Fixing it is very simple: you need to take a small piece of fine-grain sandpaper and sand out the defects. Next, wipe off the dust with a clean rag, take a thin brush and paint of the appropriate color, and carefully paint over it. When the paint is dry, the accessories are hung on the wall.

Option 3. Walls covered with plastic

The photo shows an example of finishing a bathroom with plastic panels

Often the bathroom is covered with plastic panels. They look great, are easy to care for, but attaching accessories to them is not entirely easy. The panel itself is quite thin and cannot withstand heavy loads, and therefore the fastening must be done directly to the wall, or, in extreme cases, to the supporting frame. It is not always possible to accurately determine the location of the racks; removing part of the paneling is also not the best solution, since the panels may be damaged. The only option left is with a wall, as the most reliable and durable.

Step 1. Use a marker to mark the attachment point for the accessory on the wall.

Step 2. Using the mark, drill a hole in the wall through the panel. First you need to drill at low speeds so that the panel does not crack, and when you reach the wall, the speed should be increased. The depth of the hole in the wall should be at least three times greater than the width of the gap between the wall and the sheathing.

Step 3. Insert a plastic dowel into the hole and carefully hammer it in so as not to catch the panel. Typically, for fastening standard accessories, dowels with a diameter of 10 mm and a length of 100 mm are used.

Step 4. A screw or threaded hook is screwed into the dowel, onto which the bathroom accessory will be attached. When screwing in, be careful not to tighten the fastener too tightly. If excessive compression occurs, the panel will first deform and then may crack.

Attaching accessories to plastic panels

Advice. The described method is not suitable for hanging heavy objects. In this case, you will have to carefully dismantle part of the sheathing and install an additional frame made of wooden blocks with a cross-section of 40x40 mm. After this, the casing is mounted back, having previously marked on the front part of the panels the location of the frame racks. Further steps consist of drilling holes through the plastic and studs into the wall, and attaching anchor bolts.

Subtleties of placing accessories in small rooms

“All sets of accessories for a small bathroom must be placed in such a way that everything you need can be easily reached.”

If the room is of modest size, and it is not possible to place all the elements in it, you should choose those that are absolutely impossible to do without. However, even if a large room is allocated for a bathroom, it is also not worth cluttering it with a mass of unnecessary details.

Place your bathroom accessories in a convenient location for you

All sets of accessories for a small bathroom must be placed in such a way that everything you need can be easily reached. So, towel holders should be hung next to the bathtub itself, so that after water procedures it is easy to reach the towel. If the bathroom is combined, then it is also worth considering the distance from the holder to the toilet, so as not to drop the textile product into the toilet.

For convenience, hang the towel holder next to the bathtub

The most logical and rational location for a shelf for cosmetics is above the bathtub or in the shower stall, where you can quickly grab shampoo rather than reaching across the room for it.

Variety of options

A variety of easy-to-use accessories and decorative elements will enhance your bathroom and make it more enjoyable. The main thing is that bathroom and toilet accessories must be of high quality and harmless to human health.

Let's look at some of them, the most popular among consumers, in more detail:

Organization of safety in the bathroom

When arranging a bathroom, it is important to remember about safety. You should study its basic rules before choosing furniture and accessories for the bathroom. The bathroom is a high-risk place. You need to understand that sockets and switches should be installed in places as far away from plumbing as possible - accidental splashes can lead to dire consequences. When installing cabinets and shelves, you should hang them at such a height as to eliminate the risk of hitting your head on them.

In the bathroom you should not use easily breakable items, as well as accessories made from materials that are not resistant to moisture: bamboo, wood, leather and others.

Additional original accessories

In addition to standard useful accessories, you should think about placing unusual decorative items in the bathroom. These include:

  • screens for changing clothes;
  • fountains;
  • houseplants;
  • original faucets, shower heads;
  • pallets, steps;
  • floor and table figurines, figurines;
  • paintings;
  • pendants;
  • wall decorations: tapestries, stucco.

You can place indoor plants in the bathroom.
The complete list of bathroom decorations is limited only by the designer’s imagination, the size of the room and the budget.

Accessories made from textile materials

These are, of course, rugs, curtains, bath towels, etc. Everything should be in the same style. As a rule, no interior style can do without textile decoration.

A non-slip mat with suction cups, with a rubberized base or acrylic, will ensure safe movement on the tiled floor and protect you from possible falls in case of a wet floor.

Accessories for sanitization

The bathroom must have cleaning supplies: buckets, mops, laundry baskets, baskets for used items, brushes, etc. The material used for their production can be: plastic, textile, metal, wood or wicker.

The place for storing them must have access to air so that the contents are ventilated. Modular systems with containers for storing linen or metal racks are very convenient and compact.
