An interior in dark colors is an excellent solution for people who are tired of the abundance of colors and visual noise that surrounds us everywhere.
Interiors made in loft, hi-tech, and minimalist styles look great in dark colors. Theoretically, you can make almost any interior dark, but this does not always look appropriate.
For example, a Scandinavian-style apartment implies the use of light colors - and deviation from this basic principle will distort the entire concept. Therefore, it is important to understand that by choosing a dark interior, you are slightly narrowing your choice of styles. And this is very convenient, since clearly stated wishes help to arrive at an optimal vision of the result as quickly as possible.
Window decoration
Make the windows as light and smooth as possible, without relief textures. It is also advisable to remove plants from the windowsill; it is better to place a couple of pots in front of the window - the space will not be so cluttered, and more light will penetrate. Heavy curtains and dark tulle are “contraindicated” for a dark room, so give preference to light curtains and flowy light fabrics - they will give the room a special airiness.
Furniture
Furniture in appropriate shades is the final part of the dark interior. It is not at all necessary that it be all dark - a lot depends on how the walls, floor and ceiling are decorated.
It is important to select all pieces of furniture in such a way that they match each other in shade and temperature - it can be a cold or warm undertone. There is no need to choose the same colors - on the contrary, they can and should be different. This is one of the key markers of a modern interior - they look harmonious, but not monochrome.
As a rule, in dark interiors, furniture in cool colors looks more harmonious - but this does not mean that the atmosphere will be uncomfortable. She will only acquire the necessary features - restraint and sophistication.
Dasha Pushkina: “You should not use shades of white in wall decoration”

“If there is a lack of light, you should not use shades of white in wall decoration - white will not save the situation, but will only emphasize the fact that the room is dark. Rich colors are great for dark rooms, and this applies not only to walls, but also to ceilings.
Rich, bold shades are also ideal for small transition areas, such as hallways, hallways and corridors, which often do not have full access to daylight. Plus, such shades are especially impressive when the electric light needed here is turned on.
We also remember about textiles: if the room is dark and the windows are oriented, for example, to the north, a great trick is to hang curtains in yellow or pink shades. Yellow will add a feeling of sunshine to the room, while pink or peach tones will bring the impression of sunset rays outside the window.

Lastly, one of my favorite ways to add natural light to a dark space is to use mirrors.
A mirror, one or more, can be placed near or opposite a window, thereby doubling the amount of daylight. The advantages of mirrors are not only in increasing illumination, but also in the fact that they create depth and visually expand the boundaries of the room.”

Attention to detail
It has been noticed that animal prints always look advantageous in the bedroom, which echo the dark accent wall and the overall light base. It could be “zebra stripes”, an unusual leopard print, or some kind of African colorful pattern.
You can use not just dark wallpaper in the interior, but find a more complex and therefore attractive option. A wall decorated with stylish photo wallpaper looks great. There are a lot of design motives:
- Space;
- Night city lights;
- The frightening darkness of exotic forests;
- Image of animals;
- Gastronomic motives;
- Abstract drawings;
- Family photo in black and white.
The interior of the bedroom is greatly influenced by lighting fixtures. If you properly think through the lighting in the room, the room will look simply magical.
Minimum wall decor
If wall mirrors increase the level of illumination, then many paintings, panels and photographs, on the contrary, absorb the light flux. In order not to leave the walls bare, we choose the decor as laconic and abstract as possible, you can focus on one bright accent.
A good move is white frames or paintings framed with mats. It is better to leave the side walls for decoration, and completely free up the space opposite the window.
Artificial lighting
If the room does not have enough natural light, special attention is paid to artificial light. In addition to the central place for the chandelier, at the stage of finishing the room it is necessary to make marks for spotlights. Their main purpose is to create a warm, cozy atmosphere and illuminate important areas.
With the help of hanging sconces you can highlight the dining area in the kitchen. A floor lamp is useful in the living room next to the sofa.
The right materials
To decorate a dark room, you need to choose the right materials. Avoid stucco, excessive pretentiousness and relief - such surfaces absorb light and create a niche effect. If you choose wallpaper, let one wall be an accent wall, with a complex pattern, and the rest simply smooth. This will not particularly affect the illumination, but the size of the room will visually increase. It is better to make the ceiling plain and smooth, but choose an original floor covering; fortunately, manufacturers provide a wide range of textures and colors.
