Design and redesign of a storage room in Khrushchev

A storage room in modern and old types of housing is a salvation from various rubbish and scattered things around the apartment. It is convenient to store everything that is rarely used or put away for a certain season. Thanks to the pantry, it is possible to rationally use the space in the remaining rooms.

The presence of a storage room in the apartment allows you to use the living space most conveniently

But in order to equip it correctly and ergonomically, you will need proper planning. And if it is not provided for in the housing plan, then you can arrange a storage room yourself.

Internal organization of a small dressing room from the pantry

It will be very beautiful and at the same time original if you decorate the door to the pantry with small stained glass windows. You can choose a truly unique design that will be made on glass. This will make the future dressing room not only more attractive, but will also highlight the interior of the room very favorably.

Since storerooms in Khrushchev-era buildings are usually small in size, the space inside the room should be used as functionally as possible. In order to turn the pantry into a dressing room, you need to start placing shelves and drawers directly from the doors. You can hang several small shelves or drawers on it, which will be intended for all sorts of small things.

In a room of any size you can create a beautiful, comfortable and modern dressing room. You just need to show a little imagination and the dimmest room will sparkle with bright colors. If the pantry is too small and you can’t even turn around properly in it, then in such a situation it would be quite logical to install a closet with a large number of shelves and some of them can even be moved outside the dressing room. It will look not only very original, but also quite comfortable, practical and functional.

A very interesting option for how you can convert a dressing room in a Khrushchev-era building from a storage room is to use the length of one wall. This will allow you to divide two rooms between each other and at the same time create another separate room. In addition, you can place a hanging bar along one wall, and take up the rest of the space with drawers and shelves. This will create a truly incredibly beautiful room.

In no case should the size of the pantry in a Khrushchev-era apartment have too much of an impact on the layout of the future dressing room that you have come up with. Be that as it may, in any situation it is necessary to use every free centimeter of this small space in the apartment.

In some situations, there is absolutely no way to even slightly increase the size of the dressing room from the pantry. If you find yourself in such a situation, then you need to look for a way to make a closet that would consist of small shelves. If you make them small, then cleaning on such shelves will be much easier, and when you take things out of them, this will also not cause any discomfort or inconvenience.

All shelves that are intended for shoes must be placed at the bottom

If you have no idea how you can correctly arrange all the shelves and drawers in a small dressing room instead of a pantry in a Khrushchev-era apartment, then you can look at numerous photos on our website and choose several options that are best suited for your individual case.

VIDEO: Organization of space and storage in the pantry.

Storage space is provided for in Khrushchev-era houses in a standard design. Usually this is a blind part of the corridor or a “dead” corner in the apartment. The ideas for arranging a storage room in a Khrushchev-era building in the photo will help you choose the right option for everyone.

The space allocated for storage is never extensive. The maximum is 2 sq. m area.

In order to save space, the door to the pantry can be made sliding, according to the compartment principle.

One of the most rational options is to turn a closet into a dressing room.

The key elements here will be rods and shelves.

Hooks on the wall are for outerwear that needs to be put away somewhere for six months.

The rack system is very convenient: the shelves can be repositioned depending on the contents.

Mesh baskets and grilles will help ventilate items stored in the pantry.

The decision to turn a storage space into a laundry room would not be entirely standard.

A folding ironing board will allow you to keep your washed items in perfect order.

Owners of bicycles can organize their storage in a vertical position in the storage room.

A convenient storage system in a room intended for this purpose or repurposing it for other needs - the solution to this issue depends on the intentions of the owners.

How to make a dressing room from a storage room in a Khrushchev building: taking into account the features of the apartment layout

When planning the arrangement of shelves and drawers in a future dressing room, it is important to take into account its size and location in the apartment. The most convenient room for arrangement is considered to be one whose width is equal to the size of the bedroom.

The entrance is located in the center. This type of layout allows you to install a supporting structure around the perimeter of the entire room. A dressing room in such a closet can accommodate a large number of things.

Arrangement of the passage room can begin with remodeling:

  • Divide the pantry in half, which will allow you to get two dressing rooms at once;
  • Close one of the openings, leaving the most convenient entrance.

A storage room less than 1 meter wide is the most inconvenient to use. In this case, the supporting structure is installed only on the wall, which is located opposite the entrance. The remaining space can be used as a changing area.

If the width of the room is 1 - 1.5 meters, the filling is located along two walls that are adjacent. The most convenient to use design is considered to be one in which the shelves are located next to the entrance. A rod for outerwear is installed in the depths of the dressing room along the entire wall.

Practical wardrobe inside - features

There are much more filling options for two-door and three-door cabinets than for one-door cabinets. Items designed for storage may include bedding, seasonal clothing, tablecloths, towels, magazines, and even built-in sections for jewelry and beauty supplies.

Metal cabinets are very convenient; dirt and debris do not accumulate in them, and they are also very light, which is important for complex structures. The width of the shelves varies from forty centimeters and more

The width of the shelves varies from forty centimeters and more.

The arrangement of things in the closet can be done according to a very convenient scheme:

  • In the middle are frequently worn items so that they are always at eye level.
  • On top are rare and unnecessary items, such as hats or carnival costumes.
  • The most bulky and heaviest things, such as suitcases, are stored at the bottom.

DIY storage room in Khrushchev

Materials for making a closet-pantry

  • MDF boards 19 mm thick.
  • Door hinges and handles.
  • Furniture casters – 12 pcs.
  • Overhead spring hinges for doors.
  • Dowels, screws.
  • Wood glue.
  • Varnish, paint.

Design Features

The cabinet dimensions are as follows: height 2500 mm, width 1400 mm. Furniture built into a niche is economical - because the back and sides are not needed. Instead, we will cut out strips of MDF 10 cm wide. The side parts, reinforced with overlays, will hold the cabinet shelves. The back strips do not need fasteners at all - the shelves will press them to the back wall with their own weight.

How to arrange a pantry with many compartments so as not to waste a lot of time looking for the right thing? The real find for our project is, undoubtedly, three containers on roll-out rollers. They make up the entire lower tier of the structure. Container dimensions:

  1. Height – 1200 mm.
  2. Depth – 800 mm.
  3. Width – 400 mm.

As you can see, the module is quite spacious and can accommodate a lot of things. At the top of the pantry are three separate cabinets with shelves. The front surfaces of the containers and the three compartments of the upper tier are absolutely identical. In addition, the facing slabs of the containers have a margin of 8 mm around the entire perimeter. When you slide the drawer in, these protruding edges will hide the frame elements underneath, and your DIY pantry will take on a finished look.

The drawing and photo show in detail the general design of the cabinet frame. The width of the guide elements for rolling out the lower drawers is determined by the reinforced side parts assembled from MDF strips. We screw the guide links to the floor with screws.

When deciding how to make a pantry without unnecessary drilling, we attach the upper level doors to spring overhead hinges. Having drilled holes for screws in the side posts of the frame, we screw the hinges 10 mm from the ends of the doors. What’s good about this kind of fittings is that you don’t have to drill into the façade cladding either.

Making containers for pantry

We measure the lower sections of the cabinet so that each container can easily move within its niche. To do this, 5mm gaps must be provided at the back and on both sides.

We glue strips to the base (base board) of the container, which will serve as stiffeners. We tighten the assembly with clamps, placing wooden pads under their jaws.

The top drawer, lined with walls on all four sides, gives the entire module the necessary stability.

Answering the question of how to make a pantry proportional and easy to use, we use auxiliary elements. We will glue the sides at the correct angle to the bottom using specially cut rectangular blanks (white in the photo). They must be cut exactly to size.

We glue the base element and the two subsequent shelves to the back wall of the container.

Mark the location of the top drawer. Apply glue to its outer sides and insert the box into place. We fix the assembly with clamps, aligning the edges of the elements flush.

Mark the position of the container shelves on the front wall. Apply glue to the ends of the shelves and the marked lines of the wall. Glue the parts together.

Now that we understand how to make a pantry with our own hands, further actions will not present much difficulty for us.

Turn the subassembly over and place it back side up. Clamps are not needed here, since the workpieces will stick together under their own pressure. True, it is not so easy to carefully turn over a heavy structure, so we will use someone from the family as labor.

When bringing the module to perfection, we use auxiliary plates and clamps - this makes it easier to maintain the required dimensions.

After drying the assembled product, we grind the surfaces with a vibratory sander. You can also use an eccentric one, which moves not only back and forth, but also in a circle.

Next, we screw furniture casters to the stiffening ribs glued to the base plate of the container. All that remains is to screw the facade to the container, and you can roll it into place. We perform the remaining two modules in the same way.

The front and inner sides of the facades can be painted or covered with several layers of varnish. Chipboard lends itself well to finishing.

The closet turned out to be roomy, beautiful and comfortable.

Our homemade pantry will help you properly organize the storage space for things pushed onto balconies, into niches in sofas, and on mezzanines. Order will reign in the house, and the household will argue for a long time about who will occupy which department for their needs.

Additional components

In order to make a door to a pantry, the most important elements are profile guides, which include the following elements:

Basic components of a sliding door.

The complete set includes a door leaf, and for the spacer you will need a wooden block with a cross-section of 40x50 mm.

Installation must begin by attaching the beam, which is installed horizontally, maintaining a distance of 6 cm in relation to the edge of the doorway. This design will serve as a spacer.

Next, guide tracks are attached to this beam using self-tapping screws.

The stops are attached to the floor surface horizontally under the guide element, and the stoppers are installed to the wall at the top. A strip is attached to the top end of the sliding door.

To ensure free movement of door panels along the guides, rollers are installed in the track and the panels are carefully hung by inserting the strip into the grooves of the rollers. The guide elements on the end sides, as well as above the door, are closed using platbands. To make a door to the pantry, you need to cut a door blank from a single sheet of chipboard (the thickness of which is 16 mm). After sawing, the edges are glued with veneer tape.

After installation, it is necessary to adjust the door movement and install fittings, and if necessary, install a lock.

In a small room where the pantry is located, you can install mirrored sliding doors, which will not only look original, but also visually increase the space.

Features of the room

The modern variety of types of layouts for apartments and country houses allows you to create different types of storage rooms. Their size can vary from 1 to 5 square meters. m. It is possible to allocate a large area for storing things only in a private house.

Khrushchev buildings are considered one of the most compact dwellings. The layouts have such a small area that it is difficult to imagine where to allocate space for a pantry. It should be noted that they initially provided mezzanines. They are ideal for storing household items, household chemicals, and dishes.

The so-called “Brezhnevkas” boast a large amount of free space. The layouts include small storage rooms that can be used as an excellent place to store household goods, clothing, sports equipment, household chemicals or groceries.

Stalinist layouts are considered one of the most spacious. As a rule, they initially provide two storage rooms. But many, in an effort to increase living space, removed one of the storage rooms during the renovation, which was not always a practical solution. After all, such premises can be used for a variety of purposes, for example, for a laundry room, dressing room, office, storing various things or products.

Modern panel houses allow you to allocate more space for a storage room. In some cases, it is possible to create something like a study or a spacious dressing room with the ability to change clothes in it.

You need to think about creating free space even before starting the renovation. Using drywall you can create a room of any size. For the convenience of storing various equipment, racks of standard sizes are installed inside the vacated area, for example 100 by 60 cm. Further, depending on the purpose, additional hangers, hooks, and other devices are attached.

Choosing an interior style

A small apartment implies the use of a single style in the design of all rooms. Such a home acquires individuality, and the modest footage fades into the background.

The smart solution is to use the Scandinavian style, that is, light shades, natural textures and sophisticated geometry.

This combination adds lightness and light, creating a feeling of spaciousness. Minimalism is also suitable - the more laconic the interior, the more space remains for living.

Some recommendations for pantry design

Pantry with sliding racks in the closet
By the way, in the pantry you need to use absolutely all the space - from floor to ceiling. The presence of upper shelves will increase the storage capacity of the pantry by up to 30%. But it is better to refuse suspended ceiling structures, because the pantry is used throughout the entire volume, which means that even 15 cm under the ceiling will not be superfluous. And the lighting can be placed on the central line - it is there, and not in the corners, that several spotlights are located.

Spacious storage room on the ground floor

Pantry design is your way of creating a functional space with great storage capacity. Once you decorate this room and provide it with convenient shelves and cabinets, your other rooms will become much less cluttered. Just don’t forget about expediency - you shouldn’t look in the pantry for a place for everything that has accumulated in your house. Evaluate all the “bins” carefully and think carefully about whether you need old newspapers - maybe it’s better to put a vacuum cleaner in the pantry instead and free up the hallway?

Arranging a mezzanine above the door

In Khrushchev-era buildings, a mezzanine-type structure is mounted above the front door. A useful thing, but it looks ignoble. It can be transformed in a similar way. We design the mounting frame and doors, assemble, fasten, and this is what happens.

Mezzanine above the front door.

All laminated chipboard parts will be cut to your measurements by furniture companies. The main thing is to calculate correctly, and assembling ready-made parts of the house will not be a problem.

Useful tips

In order to make a storage room in an apartment or house, you need to think through everything in advance down to the smallest detail.

In this case, you cannot do without light, or even a ladder. You should also take care of the safety of the premises.

They increase slipping, which can lead to injury.

The use of plastic panels is more profitable due to their strength and durability. The plaster begins to peel over time. As a result, the appearance of the walls deteriorates and the need for repairs increases. Doing this in the pantry is quite problematic due to the presence of a huge number of things that will have to be placed throughout the apartment.

Wooden panels coated with varnish will look original. They are quite durable and also have a long service life. If the room is not located next to a constant source of moisture, this solution will be optimally combined with almost any interior design.

It is best to install the wiring before finishing the walls, which is often done using ordinary plaster. If plasterboard was used to form the pantry, then installation is carried out along the frame. Only high-quality materials are used for wiring. Proper placement of wires will avoid a fire hazard.

It should be remembered that the wires must be located clearly in a vertical or horizontal position. There should be no bumps in their path. Otherwise, they may damage the surface of the wiring. You should also maintain a width between wires of at least 3 mm.

To arrange the interior space as efficiently as possible, storage spaces are made of racks and shelves, the depth of which should not exceed 60 cm. The racks are placed along the walls in the letter “P”. If the pantry is narrow or located on the balcony, then the letter “G”. Rows of shelves go all the way to the ceiling. Items that are rarely used in everyday life are stored there, as well as those that will not break if dropped.

By creating a well-planned space, you can forever get rid of problems with storing necessary things that cannot be placed in a visible place. By allocating just a couple of meters from the total footage to a separate room, you can save much more space in your apartment or house, as well as keep your home neat, clean, and well-groomed.

Initial stage of repair

Having decided to renovate your own apartment “from the time of Nikita Sergeevich”, even before the renovation begins, you should take a number of important steps:

  • Check the BTI plan. In some cases, the pantry and corridor, which we consider as non-residential premises, on paper turn out to be part of the residential areas. This will affect the redevelopment - it is impossible to expand the kitchen or bathroom at their expense, but the rooms are fine;
  • Check the condition of the wiring and pipes. Renovation is not just an external renovation of a home. The Khrushchev buildings were built a long time ago, and therefore it is useful to find out the state of the communications. A frivolous attitude to this issue can turn into a real disaster;
  • Visit the appropriate authorities. Many owners of such a small apartment have a desire to demolish all the internal partitions and rebuild everything in a new way, or even settle on the studio option. But you should not ignore the legal norms regarding redevelopment. The rules were created to protect the residents of the house, and therefore they must be followed;
  • Estimate the volume of storage areas. How many people will live in the apartment and how many things will be stored in it? Having estimated this volume, you can understand how many cabinets and shelves will be needed in the apartment.

Procedure for creating a dressing room

How to independently transform a standard pantry into a dressing room? First, inspect it for the integrity and condition of the walls, ceiling and other elements. At this stage, it is decided whether it is necessary to strengthen or adjust the walls, floor and ceiling, or whether it is enough to introduce shelving there. Then plan the composition of your dressing room and move on to action.

The following steps are required when arranging your wardrobe:

Empty the closet of things. If necessary, level the walls. Level the floor and lay the covering. Work the ceiling. Choose the appropriate option: hanging elements, wallpaper, paint

Good lighting is very important, install LEDs.

How to choose doors?

When converting a pantry into a dressing room, do not forget about one more structural element. The door is no less important than the internal layout, because it is the “face”, the facade, which is visible from the room. It should not only be comfortable and ergonomic, but also match the overall interior of the apartment.

Types of doors

Swing. Practical, comfortable swing doors have good sound insulation, although as for the dressing room, this is an unimportant parameter

More importantly, such doors can be purchased at the best price, they look good, and are available in a wide range. The only negative is that such models require space.

In tight surroundings, it is not always possible to install them.

Lighting

The lighting should be designed based on how the pantry space will be used. If the layout simply involves storing various utensils, then one light source is sufficient.

If the pantry is to be converted into a work area, the lighting should be as comfortable as possible. This can be achieved by using an additional table lamp or a spotlight that can rotate.

A small and cozy closet can be transformed into a quiet reading space. However, you should also take care of additional lighting. You should not choose too bulky pieces of furniture, as they are not very practical and can worsen the lighting in the room as a whole. It is worth remembering that in a compact space one or two lamps are enough.

Whatever is located in the storage room, it should be equipped with the highest quality lighting. If the space is occupied by shelves, then it should be possible to see what is located in their farthest part. To do this, you can use LED backlighting. It is also worth making the overhead light powerful enough.

If the lamp is located on the ceiling, then the lamp in it must be at least 150 watts. A good solution would be lighting fixtures that provide regulation of the direction of light flow. There is no need to worry about using too much electricity. After all, you won’t always have to stay in the pantry for longer than a couple of hours.

How to arrange it?

When arranging a dressing room with your own hands, it is important to take into account the size of the room and choose the most suitable storage system. There are several of them, each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages, which is why it is so important to choose the most convenient one for a particular room.

Lighting will require no less attention.

Lighting

From a dark closet you need to make a well-lit space. During repairs, it is necessary to determine in advance the installation points of the lamps, since light is not provided in the “Khrushchev” storerooms. It is quite possible that one lamp installed on the ceiling will be enough. If not, all compartments in the dressing room should be clearly visible; you can use a point system. These can be wall lamps powered by electricity, or mobile ones with an adhesive backing.

A ventilation system will be needed as additional equipment, otherwise unpleasant musty odors and mixtures of perfume aromas will very soon appear in the sealed space, which very quickly lose their attractiveness without ventilation.

Pantry layout

If there is only one storage room in the house, then it needs to be divided into sections. There are general tips for arranging storage rooms:

  • The bottom is convenient to keep shoes and household appliances,
  • Middle shelves and sections for the most popular items - linen, tools, canned food, craft materials,
  • On top are usually things that are used least often - Christmas tree decorations, children's things and toys. Or things that are potentially dangerous for children are hidden. You can also disguise a small safe there.
  • You can also place hooks, a fabric organizer with pockets or mini-shelves for small items on the door.

In addition, some design options will not require additional financial investments from you, but can be implemented using recycled materials, which you may have long forgotten about:

Whatever door decor option you choose, rest assured: this is the right decision from the point of view of practicality, economy and creativity.

By doing this kind of decoration for your home, you get the opportunity to quickly and effectively transform the interior.

In addition, all family members can be involved in the creative process and everyone can do their part of the work. This will ensure a fun and useful time spent together with your household.

Advantages over a closet: dressing room in Khrushchev

A separate room for storing a wardrobe is the cherished dream of any woman, but the more practical part of the male population will ask: “Why is a dressing room better than an ordinary spacious wardrobe?” Of course, at first glance, it may seem that a closet takes up significantly less space than a whole room for storing clothes, but we have several reasons in favor of organizing a dressing room.

Unlike a closet, you can rearrange the shelves in the dressing room or add new ones

Advantages of the dressing room:

  1. When creating a project for placing furniture in a room, you must take into account, in addition to the area occupied by the cabinet itself, about 50 cm of free space for approaching it. A dressing room, which is located in a separate room, does not require additional space in the room in which it is located.
  2. A dressing room, unlike a closet, allows you to choose clothes for at least two family members at once.
  3. Looking around the dressing room, you will be able to see all the clothes in it (provided that an open storage system was used to decorate it).
  4. Even a small separate room equipped for storing clothes allows you to change clothes without leaving it.
  5. By allocating a separate room for a wardrobe, you will make the room where the wardrobe could be located much more spacious.
  6. It is not necessary to give up a full room for a wardrobe; you can use a closet for this purpose, in which most housewives store things that are unlikely to ever be useful, but it would be a pity to throw them away.
  7. You can design a dressing room in accordance with your own desires and needs, so you can be sure of the safety of things located in this room.
  8. A dressing room can be an excellent gift for your wife on March 8 or her birthday.

As you can see, even a small dressing room has a huge number of advantages over a closet, and if a room was used to create it, which has not yet been put to reasonable use, it will suit even the most ardent pragmatist.

Projects of built-in wardrobe rooms with photos

built-in dressing room

Linear type

The linear type is a clear example of a built-in wardrobe. With this storage option, the necessary items are built along the wall. A significant part of the room area is saved with this option.

A linear dressing room is not so much an independent room in the apartment as a separate niche. Sometimes you can store a large number of necessary things behind an accordion-shaped door. The door opens effortlessly, so any item can be quickly reached.

In a linear type dressing room, pull-out hangers are often used. Any wardrobe accessory can be easily reached with a simple movement of the hand.

Such a structure is made at least one and a half meters deep. Its width depends only on the size of the room. However, if there is enough space, you should not use it as much as possible. It is better to abandon various shelves and niches, as well as all kinds of partitions. It is necessary to understand that in a linear dressing room there will most likely not be additional space to store household appliances. It is unlikely that it will be possible to put an ironing board there.

design of a built-in compact dressing room with many shelves, racks and drawers

It is best to choose open shelving to visually enlarge the space. The depth of the room can also be optically enlarged. To do this, you need to install cabinets with doors. However, such a solution would be appropriate if there is a long wall in the apartment.

L-shaped type

In addition to linear solutions, there is an L-shaped layout for the design of wardrobe projects in the room. This option has certain differences and specifics. With such a solution there is no need to build partitions. The dressing room itself becomes part of the room, fitting harmoniously into it. The presence of shelving optically increases the space.

built-in dressing room in the bedroom

U-shaped type

A dressing room made in the shape of the letter P is a rather original idea. It is believed that such a solution is only appropriate for large spacious houses

The set in such a room is monolithic. Shelves are not just located on the wall. There are special sections, closed drawers, and clothes hangers placed in the room.

linear dressing room

The space allocated for the interior of the dressing room must be used with maximum efficiency. This is the designer's primary task. The lighting level must also be carefully considered. If space is limited, then most likely the room will be poorly lit.

The dressing room, made in the shape of the letter P, can act as a separate room in which guests are received. This will be appropriate only if there is a room in the house or apartment in which you can allocate a special place for clothes and shoes.

Where to find a place for a dressing room?

In small apartments it is very difficult to allocate space for a dressing room. Despite this, there are still options, since the layout of apartments is carried out with the presence of various small niches, designated storage rooms, etc. If this is not possible, then you can carry out a partial redevelopment of the apartment, especially since most layouts, especially since Soviet times, are not distinguished by their practicality. During the renovation process, many owners do just this: they partially move the partitions, removing unnecessary things and optimizing the living space to suit their needs.

How to make a dressing room from a closet.

If the apartment is corner, then there are many more options for arranging a dressing room. Alternatively, you can select one of the suitable corners. In addition, the location of windows and doors allows for so-called dead zones. In this case, the ideal option is to arrange a dressing room area.

Dressing room located in the corner.

If the area does not allow, then you will have to artificially increase it somewhat, making the walls not even, but with the middle extended inward. The area of the room will not suffer from this, but in this place you can really fit a huge variety of useful things.

How to slightly increase usable space.

There is another, but quite useful option - placing a dressing room on a balcony or loggia. But before this, you should make sure that it is warm on the balcony or loggia, and this is only possible as a result of insulation. In addition, it is desirable that this place be heated.

The location of the dressing room is on the side of the balcony or loggia.

If there is a wide loggia, then shelves or racks can be placed along the wall.

Option to use a wide balcony.

If the layout allows, then in the hallway you can also allocate space for a dressing room. Although, it all depends on the wishes of the apartment owners.

And yet, the most suitable place to place a dressing room is the bedroom. It is convenient to both undress and dress here, therefore, most apartment owners opt for this option and do not spare part of the area for placing a dressing room. To organize such a useful space, it is enough to mount a partition, for example, from plasterboard, which will not take much time. In addition, the technology is so simple that even without proper experience this work can be done with your own hands. This may take a maximum of a week, without any special construction waste.

Despite this, there are certain nuances. If the partition is made using technology, you will have to sheathe the frame on both sides, which takes up extra centimeters of usable space. As an option, the frame is sheathed only on the outside, and the inside remains unsewn

And here it is very important to arrange the profiles so that they can serve as a support for drawers or other hanging elements

Plasterboard partition for a dressing room.

There are also simpler and more technologically advanced options, without the use of putty. This can be a partition made of ordinary chipboard, OSB boards or MDF lining. In this case, it is possible to choose the color that best suits the overall interior of the room. If you use non-laminated finishing materials, you can then cover them with the same wallpaper that is intended for the room. In this case, it will be possible to somehow disguise the dressing room.

In fact, there are quite a lot of options and approaches, so choosing the right option is not a problem.

Disadvantages of "Khrushchev"

The disadvantages of such a home include:

  • Thin walls and low level of sound insulation;
  • Low ceilings (2.55 m);
  • A cramped hallway;
  • Modest area of the apartment as a whole;
  • A tiny kitchen where nothing fits except a stove and a short countertop.

Selection of finishing materials

Do-it-yourself wardrobe rooms from a closet photo will turn into a cozy storage for things if you choose the right finish. The main requirement for the choice of finishing materials is a smooth surface to avoid the appearance of puffs, and no marks. You should immediately abandon the idea of whitewashing the dressing room or using cheap, low-quality paint or wallpaper, which, when in contact with the fabric, can leave marks that will be difficult to get rid of.

Among other things, it should be taken into account that things may not be hung well dried. This can affect the coating, moreover, cause a musty smell and the development of mold inside the dressing room. Wood and MDF are excellent options as they are porous and have the ability to absorb moisture.

The surfaces of the interior space of the former storage room should be easy to clean and wash. Modern paints have all the necessary properties and are at the same time hypoallergenic and leave no odor.

Decoration and selection of furniture

Every residential property owner wants all rooms to be attractive, bright and unique. Therefore, a lot of attention must be paid to the design of the converted pantry. It must have an attractive appearance and must also be easy to use.

To do this, all furniture is selected in the same style, and it is also allowed to adhere to a certain design direction during the design creation process. Often, classic or high-tech is chosen, and the choice depends entirely on the preferences of the apartment owners themselves.

It is important to pay attention not only to furniture and shelves with cabinets, but also to fittings, since beautiful and unusual handles and holders can add uniqueness and originality to any room.

Many people prefer to create different furniture with their own hands. At the same time, they can bring to life their own unique ideas and solutions. Small dressing rooms usually have small or corner cabinets, shelves and a mirror. If possible, you can purchase or make a small ottoman or sofa yourself.

The nuances of storing pantry equipment in Khrushchev, Brezhnevka, Stalin

These types of housing are still the main representatives of the secondary market today. Despite the antiquity of standard buildings, storage spaces are inherent in them according to the standard design. Even in the most cramped and uncomfortable Khrushchev-era apartment, the pantry occupied almost two square meters, which would already allow us to take such a step as arranging a mini dressing room in the pantry.

Small dressing room in the pantry

In Brezhnevka, a slightly larger area is allocated for auxiliary space, which makes it possible to plan two zones on them at the same time. On one side, shelves can be arranged for things needed in the household, on the other side, brackets can be attached and racks for clothes can be placed.

Combination of pantry and dressing room

But a real treasure awaits us in the Stalin buildings, since they have two auxiliary rooms at once. Unfortunately, like a storage room in a Khrushchev-era building, they are often dismantled in an effort to gain space. It’s in vain, because with the right approach you can plan and equip them with even a mini-laundry or an imitation of a garage.

Mini laundry room in storage room

In panel houses of later construction, it is more rational to develop a cabinet design in these areas. But if there is no need for such space, the pantry can leave its traditional function and make the shelves with jars of preparations.

Major floor repairs

The design of Khrushchev 2022 involves replacing floors. The floors in old apartments are made of boards that have already served their purpose. Therefore, it is not advisable to try to restore them to make them look beautiful with brushing and tinting under varnish. There are still gaps between them, and the boards continue to creak.

Floors in Khrushchev can have a concrete or wooden base. If upon opening it turns out that a wooden floor is hidden under the boards, then new logs are fixed onto it and new boards or plywood are laid. An insulating layer can be placed between the joists.

If a concrete floor is identified, you should remove all debris and decide on further floor covering:

  • lay new logs and make a plank floor;
  • level the floor with a screed, install heated floors and the appropriate covering underneath;
  • Lay laminate tiles, linoleum or parquet boards on top of the plywood.

Its external perception depends on how the floor in the apartment looks

Therefore, when performing floor repairs, it is important to ensure that the floors in the apartment retain heat, insulate sound, do not get dirty quickly and are easy to clean

Non-standard use

If you don’t want to store construction tools, an ironing board or food supplies in the pantry, then you can pay attention to bold and unusual solutions. Non-standard use will make a small space as efficient as possible

If you often work at home or like to spend your free time at the computer, then a small closet can be equipped as a work office. Place a table with a chair behind the door, and small shelves on the walls. You can also use the door for various hooks and hanging shelves. But this method of arranging a pantry is suitable only for neat people who can give up free useful space for storing things.

If the pantry is located next to the bathroom or kitchen, then you can even organize a laundry room. There is also room here not only for a washing machine, but also for shelves with powders and conditioners, for a basket with clothes and a small dryer. This method will significantly save space in the kitchen and bathroom. And for greater functionality, you can provide and attach a folding ironing board to the pantry door.

Accommodation options

Some examples of location.

Pantry in the kitchen

Involves storing various preserves, vegetables, fruits, cereals and other products. At the same time, the pantry may not take up much space. It is appropriate to place the storage system near one wall. To save additional space, the pantry in the apartment is left open or equipped with sliding doors. This design will accommodate not only food, but also kitchen utensils.

Inside, the kitchen storage is equipped with shelves on which dishes, food and compact household appliances such as a toaster, multi-cooker, bread maker and others are placed. Such an interior solution in an apartment makes the kitchen more spacious and gives it an interesting look.

Storage room in the hallway

In the interior of a corridor in an apartment, the storage room is most often located next to the front door. In this case, it becomes an excellent continuation of the hallway. It is equipped with hooks for outerwear and shoe shelves. This way, the corridor space is freed from unnecessary things and does not look cluttered.

The photo shows the interior of the apartment with a corridor equipped with a small storage room.

To create a storage room in a long corridor with a dead end near the far wall, it would be appropriate to trim the narrow space a little and build a plasterboard false wall with a doorway. Even such a storage room, which has a small area, is perfect for storing household appliances, bicycles, baby strollers and other things.

Niche

If there is a niche in the living room, the issue of organizing a storage room in the apartment is greatly simplified. In the storage space, U-shaped or L-shaped shelves are placed in the recess, hanging rods are installed, or household appliances are placed. A washing machine or refrigerator will fit perfectly into a small niche, and a large alcove is suitable for arranging a dressing room.

Separate room

An apartment in a standard building initially has a separate storage room. In the interior of a private house, the placement of this storage facility is thought through at the construction stage.

If the layout does not require a separate utility room, you can sacrifice a certain amount of space and make it in one of the free rooms in the apartment.

Under the stairs

This solution allows you to make the most efficient use of unclaimed space under the stairs and save useful square meters in the room.

Mezzanine

In panel Khrushchev buildings, the layout of the apartments assumes the presence of mezzanines. This compact and at the same time roomy design is suitable for storing household items, household chemicals or dishes. Mezzanine cabinets are found in the interior of a corridor, bathroom or balcony.

The photo shows a mezzanine above the door in the design of a modern corridor in an apartment.

Corner of the room

A corner storage room is considered the most effective solution for small-sized housing. For example, to organize storage, they fence off a separate corner in the kitchen and fill the space with neat shelves. This design technique will save space in the room and create comfortable conditions for any housewife.

On the balcony

Even in the interior of a small balcony in an apartment, you can install functional shelving in which work tools, sports equipment, pickles, etc. will be stored.

The side walls of the loggia are equipped with mini-cabinets, drawers and wall hooks. Storage systems with multi-colored facades or original doors decorated with drawings will add individuality to the balcony space.

The photo shows a balcony with a storage system in the form of metal shelving.

Storage room in the bathroom or toilet

A storage room in the bathroom will help organize the room and maintain cleanliness. Storage with shelves is suitable for storing household chemicals. The pantry is also equipped with hangers, towel hooks and complemented with various organizers and fabric pockets.

Rod installation

If you add hangers, your closet will become more functional and convenient. Even in a tight space, you can install at least 2 rows of rods on which medium-length clothes (up to 1.3 m) are placed. A room with a high ceiling will accommodate three-tier structures.

Options made of chromed or galvanized steel can withstand loads and last a long time. Inexpensive rods made of metal alloys are strong and durable and are used for accessories. Wooden parts bend under the weight, and scratches from hangers remain on the surface.

Installing a hangerSource mblx.ru

The installation method depends on the parameters of the dressing room. In a narrow pantry, traditional longitudinal models are used. In deep spaces, transverse views are appropriate, in which the clothing is turned “facing” the person. To get to the distant thing, you need to fully extend the structure. In spacious rooms, floor-standing (mobile) options are used.

Installation of pipes for things is carried out after installing the shelves. To fix the device, use furniture fasteners for rods. Before the procedure, measurements are taken. The height of the pipes depends on the length of the items:

  • short – 1-1.2 m;
  • average – 1.4-1.7 m;
  • long – 1.8-2 m.

A gap of 4-5 cm is left between the hanger and the horizontal structures. There is enough space for placing clothes on trempels. The pipes are produced in standard lengths, so you will have to adjust the parameters to the size of the dressing room in the pantry. An angle grinder is used for sawing.

One rod requires 2 brackets. The parts are installed on the walls using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws, then hangers are inserted. For reliability and protection from deformation under the weight of clothing, the mount is additionally mounted on the ceiling of the space.

Preparation

Whatever method you choose to update an old interior door, you will need to carry out a number of preparatory work. Usually old painted specimens are going to be decorated. Painting is usually amateurish, so there are more than enough unevenness, sagging and other minor defects. They all need to be leveled.

Remove the door leaf from the hinges and lay it on a flat surface. You can - on a trestle or a table. We take wood putty (even if they are made of chipboard or plywood) and cover all the holes, chips and depressions with it. After drying, we move on to the next stage - sanding.

We buy wood putty

We take sandpaper with coarse and fine grains. We process to achieve a smooth surface. If you work manually, it takes a lot of time and effort. With a hand sander, work moves faster. If painting is planned next, we try to achieve as smooth a surface as possible. If you plan to decorate with wallpaper, fabric, self-adhesive film, you don’t have to bring it to perfection, but it should still be exactly right.

Hand sanding takes a long time

Next, remove the dust and wash off the residue with water and diluted dishwashing detergent. Dry it. Further actions depend on the selected update method. If you are going to glue fabric or wallpaper of any kind, you can prime the surface (with thinly diluted glue or a special primer). After the primer has dried, you can glue the selected type of decor or apply paint. By the way, if you are going to paint the doors, you need to select the same type of paint that was there before, otherwise you will have to remove everything to a clean base, and this is very difficult.

Functional pantry design

“The interior design of the pantry should be consistent with the decor of the rest of the space”

Since the space of a pantry can be used for a wide variety of purposes: storing clothes, equipment, food, putting laundry in order - then its interior needs to be decorated in an appropriate manner. Of course, finishing materials are selected based on the purpose of the area, but whatever the functional features, consumables must be practical and durable.

Priority remains for:

  • laminate;
  • linoleum;
  • plaster;
  • simple wallpaper;
  • plastic panels;
  • paint.

As for the interior design of the pantry, it should be in tune with the decor of the rest of the space. It is correct to make entrance door structures sliding or as sliding panels. This will help save space both inside and outside the pantry. If it is not possible to make the pantry door in a Khrushchev-era building ergonomic, then at least try to make good use of its bulky hinged door. Involve him in organizing the space by placing clothes hooks on the inside or nailing holders for cleaning equipment.

The interior of the storage room should be in harmony with the style of the apartment

How to arrange an entire pantry with maximum rationality? Of course, use shelves and shelving structures under the ceiling in its setting. They can fit quite a lot of different things. To make it easier to get them from the top tier in the pantry, you can keep a stepladder or stool.

Ceiling shelving structures

By and large, what a utility room will look like and what will be in it largely depends on its location. Sometimes it is much more profitable to repurpose warehouse space and equip it with mini-rooms with unexpected functionality.

Options for closing a doorway

Depending on the configuration, location and design of the dressing room, several types of doorway design can be considered. The room can be open or closed. Doors can be hinged, sliding, or a screen can be used instead.

To decorate the door structure, frosted or glossy glass, mirror, sandblasting, wood, inserts from different materials, and textiles can be used.

The last option looks very original and is quite inexpensive. To hang curtains, a cornice is installed, and the canvas itself is selected to match the interior design. Sliding doors and accordion-type doors help to significantly save an already small space. Hinged doors look appropriate only in a spacious room.

How to make a dressing room from a storage room in a Khrushchev building: taking into account the features of the apartment layout

The entrance is located in the center. This type of layout allows you to install a supporting structure around the perimeter of the entire room. A dressing room in such a closet can accommodate a large number of things.

Arrangement of the passage room can begin with remodeling:

  • Divide the pantry in half, which will allow you to get two dressing rooms at once;
  • Close one of the openings, leaving the most convenient entrance.

A storage room less than 1 meter wide is the most inconvenient to use. In this case, the supporting structure is installed only on the wall, which is located opposite the entrance. The remaining space can be used as a changing area.

Preparatory work

Since it is not difficult to make a dressing room from a storage room in a Khrushchev-era building, even a person with minimal experience in construction and renovation can cope with the task. The main thing is to follow all design rules. The first thing that is required is to empty the closet of all things, remove the old door from its hinges, and take measurements of the room. Only after this they begin to create the project. You can come up with it yourself, use a ready-made option, or seek help from a specialist. The drawing must be made on paper with all dimensions. This is the only way to correctly place the internal elements and calculate the amount of materials needed for arranging shelves with racks.

How to make a dressing room from a closet, main stages of work, tips

To make a dressing room from a storage room in a Khrushchev building with your own hands, you definitely need to carry out preparatory and finishing work. The first thing that needs to be done is to remove old coatings from the walls and floors. Afterwards, the surfaces are leveled using plaster or putty. When the finishing material has dried and the walls have been primed, they are painted or covered with wallpaper. Next, linoleum or laminate is laid on the floor. As an alternative, you can lay carpet. The only disadvantage of this solution is that the coating quickly gets dirty. Finally, the door is installed.

What is a storage room for, and where can it be located?

A storage room is a very necessary room in an apartment! Here you can store old presses, repair tools, sports equipment, outerwear, canned goods, household appliances, kitchen utensils, cleaning products, seasonal items and many more necessary things that you do not use every day. This is a standard, but far from the only use of a pantry. In addition, the pantry can be turned into a dressing room, laundry room, linen room, workshop, library or home office.

If the area of your pantry is very small, then you need to thoroughly work on its arrangement, applying the main principle: every thing has its place! If such a room does not exist in your apartment, it should be created.

The first option for creating a storage room with your own hands is to separate 2-4 square meters in the corner of the largest room using plasterboard partitions. The second option is to arrange an existing niche. The third option is to cut down unnecessary space at the end of a long corridor. The required area is fenced off with plasterboard sheets, and a door is cut into one of them. You can create mezzanines on top, and place shelves, racks or hangers inside, depending on the functional purpose of the pantry.

The main principle of the pantry: every thing has its place

An alternative to a full-fledged pantry is to install shelves above the doorways. Here you can store canned food, books, dishes and other items. A spacious wardrobe can also serve as a storage room. If after placing all your clothes there is still free space, use it to place tools or small household items.

Equipment for storage rooms in different types of houses: Khrushchev, Brezhnev, etc.

The most common housing are “Khrushchev”, “Brezhnev”, “Stalin” and panel houses. In small-area “Khrushchev” buildings, storage rooms were still provided. True, they were more like a closet in size. But this is a great reason to turn such a utility room into a dressing room!

The dimensions of the pantry in Brezhnevkas are approximately 2.5 x 1 x 3 m. From such a room you can also make a dressing room or a place to store household supplies.

Stalinka buildings often have not one, but two storage rooms! Unfortunately, very often they are simply dismantled during repairs. But with the right approach, these rooms can be equipped with a laundry room, a mini-garage, an office, and a dressing room.

A storage room or closet in a panel house can be used both for its intended purpose, that is, for storing various things, and can be converted into additional living space by arranging a mini-office here.
