Shoe shelf

If there is no organized place in the home for storing seasonal shoes (for example, in a pantry or on a loggia), then the shelf for them should be designed for different dimensions, both in terms of height and width of the sole. For those pieces that are worn this season, a banquette with shelves is perfect. It will create greater comfort when putting on shoes and make shoes accessible.

Shoes that are not currently in use should not turn into a dust collector or a constant obstacle on the way. It must be placed in a special shoe rack. Or allocate space under the ceiling for shelves.

The size and type of shelves in this case are based not only on the dimensions of the hallway, but also on the number of residents and, accordingly, shoes. By comparing these two parameters, you can choose the best option in terms of capacity and style.

Banquettes and shelves for outerwear

Being a business card, the hallway first “meets” guests who enter the living room through it. You can even arrange a small corridor according to the latest fashion. For example, the presence of a banquette in the hallway with shelves on which shoes are aesthetically placed will completely replace a spacious closet.

Thanks to this purchase, space is saved and the storage of family pairs of shoes is organized. There are options for elite banquettes, and there are budget options that will become an original decoration for the corridor.

Hanger

This shelf looks like a horizontal surface where hooks are located. They hang clothes and umbrellas on them.

They must be strong and well nailed to the wall in order to withstand heavy weight. It is enough to remember how heavy winter things are, and it will become clear why a powerful shelf is needed.

Above the hanger you can hang a shelf for hats, scarves, and umbrellas. Or place several drawers or removable baskets in which it is convenient to store hats, gloves, and umbrellas.

A forged metal hanger looks unusual and stylish.

Corner shelf for hallway

It fits well in an unoccupied corner of the room and does not require much space. For corner placement, this option is the most convenient and practical. Shelves for placement in the corner area are different:

  • with closed sections or completely “in sight”;
  • integral structure or assembled from individual parts.

Quite often, this is a surface that has holes for an umbrella in the form of a cane and hooks where you can hang umbrellas with a folding design or where you can keep keys.

Advantages of shelves

The presence of wall furniture visually unloads even the smallest rooms.

Free space is put to good use.

Shoes placed on the shelf will not be covered with dust, pet hair, or interfere with the entrance.

Taking shoes and clothes from a shelf is much easier than from a mezzanine.

A wide range of products allows you to choose a model to suit every taste, budget and any interior.

Color

The most popular color is white and its various shades. This is due not only to freshness and visual lightness, but also to the ability to expand the space and make it not seem cramped. The point is also that there is rarely enough light in the hallway, and you need to rationally use even the meager natural light that does exist, and white painting of furniture copes with this task perfectly.

Fans of experiments can rest assured: colorful and eye-catching shelves in the hallway are also quite appropriate. If they are open, this will only highlight the advantages of your shoes.

A fairly popular natural wood pattern can be recommended in almost any interior.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. An ordinary board left over from the renovation will be suitable as the main material. The width should be selected individually, based on the items that will be placed on it and the place where it will be installed.
  2. In addition, for fastening you will need glue with a dispenser and screws (3.0x25 mm). Semicircular slats can be used as decoration.
  3. We mark the board at a 45° angle to the required length and use a hacksaw to cut it at an angle of 45°. As a result, we get 4 shelves.
  4. From the remains of the board you need to cut out racks of the same size (for example, 5x20 cm) in the amount of 6 pieces.
  5. All elements should be sanded until perfectly smooth.
  6. Let's start assembling the structure. Each shelf, except the top one, must be secured with two racks. The markings are applied in the middle, then the elements are fastened with screws. To strengthen the fasteners, use PVA glue.
  7. For ease of fastening, the middle shelf posts are placed along the edges.
  8. The remaining parts of the corner shelf are assembled in the same way.
  9. If you wish and have free time, you can decorate the shelves using semicircular slats. So, with their help you can make low handrails so that small or round accessories do not fall out. At the final stage, the shelf is painted.

Mirror with shelf

You can't do without a mirror in the hallway. People not only come into this room, but also leave it. And when leaving home, everyone looks in the mirror to comb their hair, tie a scarf, put on a hat, fasten buttons, and brush their clothes.

The mirror can be elongated so that you can see yourself in full height. And there are small ones, framed. The shelf next to the mirror is used to store various attributes needed when leaving the house.

Corner shelf in the hallway

The corner shelf is a non-standard solution for the hallway. This option is suitable for owners who do not know how to decorate a corner in their hallway; one way to close the corner is to put a corner shelf there.

Such shelves are generally small in width, but reach several meters in length. This is not only a significant space saver, but also a great way to keep your apartment tidy.

Even if you don't have the largest hallway, with the right furniture you can make the most of its full potential.

Manufacturing materials

Corner structures in the corridor can be made of a variety of materials.

  • Natural wood. This is a completely environmentally friendly material. Oak, cherry or ash, which are hardwoods, are most often used in furniture production. Furniture made from natural wood looks very noble. The only disadvantage of such products is the high price of the products. In addition, such products are afraid of high humidity and fire, and have poor resistance to mechanical damage.

  • MDF or chipboard. These options are suitable as a cheaper material. The main advantage is their ability to imitate natural wood. These materials are made from wood shavings. Chipboard is a cheaper material and is used mainly for economy class products.

  • Plastic. One of the popular options used in the hallway are plastic corner shelves. This is an absolutely safe material, it is easy to clean and wash. Fingerprints and scratches will not be visible on such a surface. The advantage of plastic models is their low cost. This material has good resistance to temperature changes and humidity changes.

  • Metal. When choosing metal products for the hallway, it is worth considering the style chosen for the room. Thus, models with forged elements will look organic in a hallway designed in a high-tech or loft style.

  • Glass. In any room, including the hallway, glass products look very light and elegant. A corner glass stand can decorate the interior. For a hallway, furniture made of thick tempered glass, which is highly resistant to impact, is more suitable. When used correctly, such products have a long service life.

They are easy to clean, do not absorb dirt, and are resistant to UV rays, moisture and household chemicals.

The use of combined options will diversify the interior. Corner structures can be made of wood and glass or wood and metal. Other combinations, for example, glass and metal, will also look good.

The main purpose of the shelf in the hallway

Having entered the house, you immediately empty things from your pockets and undress; for this it is recommended to equip the hallway with a variety of shelves. A shoe rack plays a special role in the hallway, because it will be unpleasant for anyone to look at shoes scattered throughout the hallway, but when there is a place where you can neatly fold them, they will always be pleasing to the eye.

Almost any material is suitable for creating a shelf with your own hands.

Chipboard, plywood

The most popular materials for shelves are chipboard and plywood. The manufacture of shelves from them is carried out in the following stages:

  1. Preparation. The dimensions of future shelves are measured, the places where they are attached to the wall are marked, materials are purchased, and tools are prepared.
  2. A circle is drawn on the material using a compass, divided into 4 equal parts, and cut out using a jigsaw.
  3. The fastening points are marked on the rail and grooves are made. The free fit of the shelves into the grooves is checked. All elements are polished.
  4. The rail is attached to the wall with glue, dowels or self-tapping screws. The mounting method depends on the functions that the shelves will perform. If the rail is attached with glue, you need to give it a couple of hours to dry.
  5. Shelves are inserted into the grooves of the slats.
