The chair needs to be selected for a specific person. The main expectation is that you and your back do not get tired, despite the hours or days spent at the computer. At KINGSTYLE we have been working with armchairs for 10 years. Therefore, based on experience, we advise you to rely on 5 main factors to choose a good chair:
- Target.
- Material.
- Mechanism.
- Anthropometry - your height and weight.
- Additional components.
Target. Why do you need a chair?
There are many options: for work, play, status, relaxation or interior design. In the latter, of course, focus only on visual impressions. In other cases, the characteristics you need depend on the purpose. Let's look at the types of office chairs and what needs they meet.
For home
Computer chairs. The widest category of chairs, which is divided into specialized types. They are designed to allow you to sit comfortably at your desk for several hours without getting up. How to choose a chair for working at a computer? Depending on how much time you spend with it:
- for 1-2 hours a day, the adjustable back of the model will be enough.
- 3-5 hours require greater functionality of the chair. Focus on models with adjustable height, backrest and seat depth.
- We recommend spending 5 hours or longer in chairs with an orthopedic back. They reduce the load on the spine and distribute pressure evenly.
Gaming ones. They allow you not to break away from the gameplay for hours and even days. Thanks to the wide range of adjustments in the gaming chair, you can even take a nap. It is enough to recline the backrest to 170° and take a horizontal position to relax. The armrests are also adjustable in height, forward/backward reach, and rotation angle to make it as comfortable as possible for eSports players.
Gaming chairs have a powerful and stylish appearance that is reminiscent of the design of seats in racing cars. The protruding parts secure the back and sides so that you can play for hours on end without compromising your posture. The backrest reclines with one click thanks to a lever mechanism.
A special cushion under the lower back maintains the correct shape of the spine and relieves stress on the muscles. Many models also provide pillows for the neck and head. They can be fixed in any convenient position or removed altogether.
Typically, gaming chairs feature a steel frame and a sturdy frame that can withstand loads of up to 250 kg. Their mass is greater than that of classic computer ones, but due to this, their strength is higher.
Orthopedic chairs. High-quality, high-tech and back-friendly models. Developed together with designers and orthopedists. Corrects posture and evenly distributes the load between the vertebrae.
When choosing a computer chair for your home, pay attention to the orthopedic corset back. It relieves axial load and helps maintain correct posture. Thanks to adjustable headrests, the load on the cervical vertebrae is reduced and the height can be changed.
Thanks to orthopedic chairs, you will get rid of the load on the lumbar region, discomfort and pain in the cervical region, lower back and shoulders.
For work
Chairs for staff. Multifunctional office chairs designed for long-term work at a computer - from 5 hours. They have rotating mechanisms and adjustments of the back, armrests and seat.
These are ergonomic models that are made specifically to reduce employee fatigue, increase their comfort and motivation.
Staff chairs are equipped with:
— convenient casters that allow you to quickly move between work areas;
— lifting mechanisms that can be adapted to the employee’s height;
- backrests with back support.
We present both budget models, thanks to which you can inexpensively equip workplaces for staff, and premium chairs.
Chairs for executives. Armchairs made of more expensive materials and with more advanced mechanisms. They offer maximum comfort. They look classy and last a long time.
The manager's chair reflects the owner's taste and shapes the company's image. When choosing, pay attention to quality, convenience and design - it should be harmoniously combined with the interior of the office.
Consider chrome frames for modern interiors and wood finishes for classic furnishings. For upholstery, it is better to give preference to natural leather or mesh - these are the most durable materials.
For visitors. Suitable for waiting in line and communicating with visitors in public places. Comfortable office chairs, but not very functional, as they do not require long-term use, more than 1-2 hours, by one person.
The assortment includes classic and modern models, in a basic and bright palette. This way, you can design an area for visitors that best suits the overall style of the office.
We also have kneeling chairs, saddle chairs, chairs for active sitting, riser chairs, bar stools, chairs for cafes and at home, for lounge areas, for the garden, and recliner chairs.
conclusions
Choosing an office chair for yourself is not difficult at all. It is enough to know your own dimensions and the purposes for which you are buying a chair. If you spend most of the day in the office, you should not save money and it is better to take an expensive and comfortable chair on which your back will not get tired throughout the day. A simple chair of small dimensions is more suitable for home. If you are purchasing chairs for an entire office, you should choose the most adaptive option.
You can choose any of the described types in our catalog. We will be happy to advise on the entire range. Contact us.
Material. What are the expectations for the durability and practicality of upholstery?
The choice of upholstery depends on your preferences. Main options:
Textile. It has a lot in common with eco-leather chairs, but the material is more pleasant to the body. More wear-resistant and durable. The downside is that we don’t recommend spilling anything or sitting in dirty clothes.
Care. Avoid contact of the fabric with sharp and cutting objects, friction with the wall and other surfaces. Remove stains or other dirt on textile upholstery with a damp cloth and cleaning solution. Use a minimal amount of detergent - excess moisture will cause streaks.
Genuine Leather. It is distinguished by its particular strength, flexibility and durability. Resistant to wear and contamination. The material looks presentable and demonstrates the status of the owner. Often, chairs made of genuine leather are expensive, but there are exceptions.
Care. Protect the material from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Wipe your computer chair with a damp soft cloth or suede.
Eco leather. The material reproduces the texture of natural leather. Inexpensive, seemingly solid, but, unfortunately, not the most durable material. And not the most pleasant for the body. Suitable for those who do not spend a lot of time at their desk and want maximum reliability without overpaying.
Care. Do not touch the material with hot objects. Wipe the chair with a damp soft cloth or suede. Please note that excessive sweat will damage the material.
Net. The most advanced material. More often used in orthopedic and ergonomic chairs. It has maximum operational advantages: strength, thermal conductivity, adaptation to body shape.
Often, chairs with mesh look futuristic and do not fit into classic interiors. The most famous computer chair in the world, Herman Miller, is made from mesh.
Care. Avoid contact of the mesh with sharp or cutting objects. Do not place the chair in a place with high humidity or near powerful heating appliances. Wipe the fabric with a damp cloth as needed.
Mechanism. What tasks should the chair solve?
To choose the right mechanism, rely on individual tasks. Your chair's performance and longevity will depend on this choice. Let's highlight 5 main types.
Permanent contact.
Short-lived and non-functional mechanism. It only has a height adjuster and is used in the most inexpensive chairs.
DMS.
The most common mechanism used in operator chairs, expensive executive chairs and chairs for children. It has a built-in swing function and swing stiffness control. Fixed only in working position. DMS does not have a large safety margin and is not recommended for people over 100 kg.
DMSL.
Improved version of DMS. Allows you to fix the angle of the chair in any position. It has a more serious safety margin. Of the minuses: small swing amplitude, especially with a size of 20x20 cm.
Multiblock.
The most serious mechanism is found in classic chairs. Durable and functional. Fixation of the tilt angle in 4 positions. But not the cheapest - the chairs with it are quite expensive.
Synchro mechanism.
This is a mechanism that is used in ergonomic chairs. Here everything is much more interesting. The proportion of seat deflection relative to the backrest in such chairs is usually 1:3, which provides constant support for the legs without squeezing the blood vessels. When the back is tilted, the mechanism has only advantages and is recommended for those who are at the computer for more than 5 hours.
Armrests
Armrests help relieve stress from the upper limbs and cervical spine and provide a comfortable position for the hands. However, in order to cope with the task, they must have the necessary shape, size and appropriate height. It is believed that in the correct position, the arms resting on the armrests are at the same level as the tabletop.
The elements are attached to the back and seat or only to the seat. In the second case, the parts are easy to dismantle, without compromising the integrity of the frame.
In most cases, armrests have a fixed height and their position remains unchanged.
Adjustable supports provide more options. They allow you to adjust the armrests according to one or more parameters (inclination, height, length, rotation angle).
Most often, parts are made of plastic, and to prevent hands from slipping, the surfaces are given a slight roughness.
In models belonging to the high price category, the armrests are made of wood or metal. To avoid discomfort from contact with a cold, hard surface, they are supplemented with upholstery and a layer of soft filler.
Anthropometry. How to choose a computer chair based on height and weight
Many chairs are universal - suitable for people of different heights and weights. However, individual models designed specifically for tall people or short people, for heavy loads and vice versa, are gaining popularity. Therefore, our advice is to be sure to check these indicators in the characteristics of the chair. This is the key to convenience, health and productivity.
On our website you can filter chairs for people:
- with height up to 160 cm
- from 160 to 170 cm
- from 170 to 180 cm
- from 180 to 190 cm
- from 190 to 200 cm
- from 200 cm
And also chairs that can withstand the load:
- up to 120 kg
- up to 150 kg
- up to 250 kg
Additional components. How can you improve your chair?
Wheels.
Choose depending on what surface the chair will be placed on. Plastic rollers are suitable for carpets. Polyurethane ones do not scratch laminate and parquet. Gliders allow you to fix the chair in one position if wheels are not needed.
Crosses.
Based on your expectations. Plastic crosspieces can withstand heavy weight and intensive use. Steel and aluminum models are distinguished by increased strength, durability and presentable appearance.
Supports
Most computer chairs come with wheels. They are made of plastic, some models are equipped with a rubber rim. The first option is the best solution for carpeting. And soft pads will ensure the safety of laminate, parquet, linoleum, etc. However, it is still advisable to additionally use a small mat to avoid pressing, scratches and other defects. To prevent spontaneous movement of the chair, the casters are equipped with stoppers.
Wheels with a skirt look more massive; they are installed on executive chairs.
If desired, the rollers can be easily removed and special plugs (gliders) placed in their place. This technique will slightly reduce the height of the chair.
There are also models without wheels. They are equipped with regular legs or bent runners.
