Renovating a children's room for a boy and a girl 50 photos: modern design ideas

It is very rare to encounter a situation when the interior of a room for a boy and a girl does not need to be divided into zones. After all, each child needs to be given a personal space, and the space does not always allow each of the children of different sexes to have their own separate nursery. Although sometimes, even if such a possibility exists, parents prefer to allocate a common area to their children for other reasons (for example, they make a bedroom there for twins or the same age), and the design of the nursery is designed in such a way as to emphasize the heterogeneity of their children.

Read more about the rules for arranging a common room for a boy and a girl in the article.

Children's furniture

To prevent the nursery from looking cluttered, place a small amount of furniture, but it must be functional.
The main task of parents is to install one or more beds, a comfortable desk and a spacious storage system.

To visually enlarge the room, furniture is placed close to the walls, trying to free up as much space as possible in the middle. It not only creates a visual effect, but also serves as a place for children's activities and games.

Toys in a nursery should delight its little owners and at the same time teach them to care for their things independently.

A completely crowded nursery puts pressure on the psyche and extinguishes positive, joyful emotions. To place things and books, it is better to use closed shelves, bedside tables, and wall cabinets. Bulky cabinets and open shelves visually narrow the space and make it disproportionate.

The minimum set of furniture for a nursery consists of a bed, a table for studying, a chair and a locker for clothes.

Most often, the core of a small children's room design project is the bed. All other interior elements play around it. If you plan to accommodate two or three kids, then preference should be given to a bunk bed or a pull-out structure.

It may come as a surprise to some, but children prefer small bedrooms rather than large, faceless spaces.

Pull-out beds also save space, but the risk of trauma to the child’s psyche due to his fear of falling from a height while sleeping disappears. Regardless of the design, choose a bed that is durable, stable, safe, and appropriate for the height and weight of the child.

It is important to have an orthopedic mattress that correctly forms the growing spine.

Children spend a lot of time sleeping.

The furniture industry offers many options for combined beds, combining a sleeping area with drawers for storing things and closed shelves. Attic-type beds, when the place to sleep is combined with a work desk, cabinets for things and school supplies. This set is a ready-made room with three zones: night rest, work or study, games and communication.

A small bedroom allows you to unleash the full creative potential of parents, find original solutions and create a unique design.

It is preferable to choose a folding table for studying in a small children's room. After classes, drawing or modeling, the table is folded down to make room for play. A convenient design is when the tabletop on one side is not rigidly attached to the wall on hinges. To work, it is raised, the child has a full-fledged table. When not in use, the tabletop is lowered and does not occupy free space.

This option is especially convenient for two or three children.

The set of furniture may vary depending on the age and gender of the children. In a small boy’s room, you definitely need to find a place for sports equipment. A wall bars, pull-up bar, and punching bag will not take up much space.

These items are necessary for the normal physical development of the child.

Place to rest

The bed is the main piece of furniture for any bedroom; it should be quite comfortable and have an orthopedic base. But with a fairly large area, you can additionally equip comfortable sofas, ottomans or frameless chairs. In addition, small children require a well-equipped play area, where there can be tables for modeling or drawing, assembling construction sets; for a girl you can make a small toy house. In any case, such an environment is selected based on the age of the children, their hobbies, and the availability of free space.

Which style to focus on

There are not many stylistic options for decorating a children's room for a boy, but even they will not appear in the canonical interpretation. When setting up a home, parents often start from a specific theme, focusing on the child’s hobbies.

Using a certain style will help you create a design correctly, as well as fit it into the overall image of the apartment. In addition, at a more mature age, teenagers usually give up children's fun, preferring a presentable appearance. Let's look at the most popular solutions for boys of different ages.

Children's room for a boy in a modern style

Perhaps the most versatile option. In such an interior you can fit interesting furniture of an unusual shape (for example, in the shape of a typewriter), walls with photo wallpaper, and bright colors. At the same time, toys and equipment look harmonious, being a continuation of the design of the room.

The furniture is functional, comfortable, without unnecessary decor or details. Multi-level one-piece sets that combine several zones at once: for sleeping, entertainment and study look trendy.

Children's room for a boy in a space style

Of course, this is not futurism, but rather a more primitive imitation of it with the active introduction of space themes. Very popular among younger boys, because who didn’t dream of becoming an astronaut as a child? Even if in the harsh adult reality the child has to give up this fantasy, he will still have time to feel partially in the desired role.

When designing such an interior for a boy’s children’s room, you will have to start primarily from the budget. But an ordinary suspended ceiling with a starry sky, several glowing globes and toy spaceships will look very interesting.

Children's room for a boy in pop art style

This style will fit well into the room of a young comic book or video game lover. Bright colors, stylized posters and paintings, outrageous figures - your child will be delighted with such a space. An option for creative children who are focused on leaving their place in the world of art and definitely will not lose their enthusiasm over the years.

With proper design, such a nursery for a boy can look solid and stylish, the main thing is not to overdo it with colors. Geometric shapes fit perfectly into the space.

Children's room for a boy in loft style

If the house is decorated in a loft style, then the children's room will most likely suffer the same fate. For boys, this will only be a plus, because nothing enhances the desire for adventure more than bare brick walls, as if in old castles and catacombs, brutality and unique decorative objects.

Modular furniture, characteristic of this style, is ideal for a developing child, whose needs and number of things grow every year. The loft is an excellent “canvas” onto which the boy will eventually add the bright colors of his hobbies.

Children's room for babies

A child under 3 years old does not yet have permanent preferences and preferences, so there is no need to maintain the room in a certain style.

When designing a children's room for boys of this age group, it is important to choose natural materials made in light or bright colors. Little ones will also enjoy being in a room that contains pictures or drawings of their favorite characters.

It is very important that the interior of a children’s room for children from 1 to 3 years old has the following characteristics:

  • Predominance of light colors;
  • The presence of bright details;
  • Free space for outdoor games;
  • Safe and high-quality furniture;
  • A feeling of comfort, harmony and safety.

  • Shelves with books and toys;
  • Lockers for clothes;
  • Small table for educational activities.

In addition to all of the above, it is necessary to provide and provide space for active games; such an area can be highlighted with a soft-pile carpet.

Important! The safety of furniture is the main criterion when arranging a children's room, especially for kids. It should not have sharp corners or rough surfaces

Decoration

To decorate a shared children's room, you can use various carpets and pillows that match the design of the room. For small children, it is especially necessary to have a variety of toys: plastic, plastic, soft plush. The right curtains will help give a finished look to a child's room. Curtains should be selected in the same style of the children's room, should be of good quality and easy to care for.

It is advisable that they do not darken the room, because children need good lighting. In this case, a combination of tulle and thick curtains will be convenient.

Also, Roman shades or blinds are well suited for a children's room. The material for curtains should be environmentally friendly and should not become very dusty. Cotton and linen fabric are ideal.

Interior depending on age

When designing an interior, parents are advised to rely on the age of the child; it is on this that the design should be based.

Such a room interior will help give the baby a feeling of comfort and coziness.

A nursery for a child aged three to five years should be bright, because at this time the child already knows how to clearly formulate thoughts and desires. Begins to express himself as a person

At this time, to decorate the room, it is important to use materials that do not harm the boy’s health and are easy to clean.

In the nursery for the future man there should be open shelving for storing things and drawers equipped with limiters. The room is complemented by bright accents, for this purpose you can use textiles (a blanket on the bed, curtains in rich colors or with bright patterns, soft poufs, non-standard painted furniture) This is the very time when the child is engaged in drawing or modeling, actively playing with his parents - this means that special attention is paid to the playing area.

If the size of the room allows, then it is necessary to install a wall bars or pull-up bar in the room so that the child develops physically.

Children's room with bright decoration with photo wallpapers with cars

A room for a child over six years old should not only meet his play needs, but also have space for learning. A desk with a comfortable, adjustable chair is recommended. Despite the fact that your son is growing up, you should acquire convenient modern storage systems.

For creativity and development, it is worth equipping the children's room with magnetic blocks or fabric strips with Velcro. In the window area, in order to optimize the space, apartment owners often use the relocation of radiators, placing a workstation in this place where sunlight falls. These square meters are perfect for built-in storage systems.

Children's room for a school-age son. The son is growing up and games are gradually being replaced by hobbies, so storage systems are being repurposed as places to store sports paraphernalia and books

When renovating, it is important to zone the room, dividing it into an area for games, relaxation and study, then the space will be functionally and rationally used. If your schoolchild son is interested in geography or history, then geographical maps are used to decorate the nursery.

They will add originality and brightness to the interior and will be interesting to the child.

A child’s room for a young man is the most difficult task for parents, because he develops his own preferences and rigid preferences for the decor of his room, which are not always to the parents’ liking. The design project is developed depending on the size of the room, the abundance of light, the interests and hobbies of the son and the financial capabilities of the adults. Often in such rooms one wall is accented with wallpaper that resembles brickwork or wild stone. This accent brings brutality to the masculine interior and gives individuality to the room.

It looks interesting to decorate the walls with wallpaper with photographs of extreme sports, graffiti, and comics. Typically, teenagers prefer cold, dark and gloomy colors; parents think that this is not the best option for the interior, but they can always be organically diluted with bright details (textiles, paintings, watches, original accessories).

Marine style for children's room design

Modern design

If the renovation is planned to be done with the future prospect of children growing up, then modern styles such as hi-tech, loft, Scandinavian style, as well as derivatives from them, will be very appropriate.

When arranging your bedroom, start with the beds first. An interesting solution for arranging beds in the second tier. Moreover, this arrangement is made mutually for a boy and a girl. Below, under the beds, you can place a small desk with bookshelves. It is most logical to place the staircase in the middle, which creates natural zoning. Create a partition under the stairs.

Manufacturers produce many models of children's bunk beds, among which it is not a problem to find a suitable option

Using such a “composition” room, it will be possible to divide personal spaces separately for each child, which is important for several reasons:

  • Zoning will allow each child to have their own design.
  • Personal space will allow you to engage in hobbies in private.
  • In addition to hobbies, your children will be able to do homework and play computer games without disturbing each other.
  • If the room is limited in size, then make folding (rollaway) beds.

An interesting idea would be to make a podium with sleeping places for children installed at the end. On the podium, place a desk with a computer, bookshelves, storage cabinets, ottomans or armchairs. On the lower part you can place a wall bars and a rope for the physical development of children.

You can make a podium with a pull-out bed yourself

To create coziness, the study area is fenced off from the rest of the room. If you make an individual order, the craftsmen will make sliding partitions or curtains of any complexity, with the application of various patterns.

This distinction will give additional comfort. In this case, the beds are removed into a niche in the morning, which provides additional space.

Color solutions in the children's room

The choice of color palette in the design of a children's room plays an important role in the matter of not only personal preferences. Child psychologists say that depending on the color environment, certain character traits may appear, and the child’s talents may also be revealed. You just need to choose the right color.

In the first years of life, both boys and girls need to surround children with calm tones such as beige, ivory, pale blue or pink. But after 4 years, you can saturate the children's room with bright colors and shades. Below is a table of the most popular colors used in decoration.

Color What is the impact and how does it manifest itself? Where to use Important Features
Blue Positively affects overall physical condition, relieves muscle tension A light accent or decorative element with an intrusive response (bed rail, curtains, toys) An abundance of cool shades of blue can cause depression
red Excites the psychological state and increases blood pressure. Not recommended for use as a key or primary color Small decor: accessories in the form of flower pots or photo frames, stands, cannons This color should not be overused, since its abundance negatively affects the psyche of both boys and girls. May cause headaches and promote restless sleep.
All shades of green It stabilizes eye pressure, normalizes breathing, improves concentration, has sedative properties and promotes sound and healthy sleep. In furniture, on walls, in accessories and decorative elements Has a beneficial effect on the child in any manifestation, both as the main color element and as a decorative accent
All shades of yellow Has a beneficial effect on vision, improves mood, and activates mental activity. In any details of the room, bed sides or as the main color If you have increased impulsiveness and frequent mood changes, you should avoid bright colors and give preference to calmer and warmer tones.
Orange Helps improve digestion and stimulate appetite A limited use of this color would be optimal: a few toys or an orange decorative detail in the interior. An overabundance of orange in creating an apartment for two boys can contribute to fatigue, and in extreme cases, cause dizziness

Room for a girl and a boy together - interior photos

Of course, you can talk quite a lot about the topic of cohabitation of two children of different sexes, but, as they say, “it’s better to see once than to hear a hundred times” (or read), so we have prepared an impressive collection of photos of room interior ideas for a boy and a girl together. Perhaps the photos we saw will help many parents decorate a similar room in their apartment, creating a cozy and safe environment for their children.

Choosing the color of a girl's bedroom

Of course, it is advisable to consult with the children to find out what they themselves want. Traditionally, pink and red are for girls, blue is the color for boys. But this is not the best solution when choosing the background of the walls in the design of a room for two girls of different ages.

Before deciding on colors, you should consult with your children.

Bright colors are best for girls

For example, the youngest daughter likes the color orange, but the older girl rejects it without any options

It is important to take their wishes into account, but be guided by other arguments:

  • warm colors are preferable on the north side to compensate for the lack of sunlight; on the south side of the house, cold and dark tones with a cheerful pattern are better;
  • plain light walls in pastel shades are appropriate to compensate for the excess of colorful patterns (curtains, sofa upholstery, carpeting, large soft toys in bright colors);
  • sharp contrasts in the quality of zoning tire the optic nerve, if the older one wants to make the black half of the room, the younger one wants to make the yellow or red part;
  • a black and white design of a children's room for two girls without bright emotional accents will burden the child's perception;
  • everything of the same shade is also not an option, even if parents think this is a good choice, children’s consciousness must switch to objects of different colors.

The general background should be uniform - white, milky, lemon, beige, blue or lilac. But it should be in harmony with shades that will complement the personal space of daughters of different ages

It is important to consider how different colors affect the subconscious.

The color in the interior should be in harmony with other shades

Don't make the room too bright

Most girls like pink

  1. Many girls like pink, but it has many shades - the delicate shade of tea rose petals is appropriate in the design of a small nursery for two girls, fuchsia color is appropriate only in decorative details.
  2. Red is an emotional color that encourages action, but it should not be used in the nursery of overly active girls who have problems switching off before bed.
  3. A lemon or yellow base tone is a good solution for a child’s bedroom, especially in a room where there is little daylight; its “intellectual” property is used for phlegmatic, dreamy or slightly inhibited children.
  4. The pronounced “warm” property of orange shades can be safely used in the design of a room for 2 girls on any side of the house, but if you don’t want too bright shades, choose a delicate peach or apricot tone.
  5. You need to be careful with the choice of greenery - “melancholy green” with an admixture of gray is not interesting to anyone, and “apple green” is considered a very positive color.
  6. Blue and light blue are great for the bedroom of active girls; it is considered an aristocratic color, but subconsciously it calms and immerses you in thought.
  7. Lilac and violet shades are not perceived by small children, but teenagers often like it, however, it is contraindicated for girls prone to mysticism, depression and loneliness.
  8. Gray is not the best choice for designing a room for two teenagers, but a gray-blue or gray-lilac wall background works great with white, blue and pink furniture.

Neutral tones are more preferable, as they will not distract from your studies.

The main thing is not to overdo it with color.

Please note that a crystal white background is suitable for cold colors, milky for the warm part of the spectrum. Children with poor appetite are recommended to choose wallpaper with “appetizing” shades and patterns. Preference is given to:

  • cream;
  • caramel;
  • chocolate;
  • yellow;
  • orange;
  • raspberry color.

Not only color is important, but its saturation and proportional relationship with companion colors. When delimiting parts of the room, the older girl is given darker shades, the younger girl – lighter ones.

Where to begin

The implementation of the idea of a combined children's room is no different from other renovations. Like any project, these works begin with an ideological solution to the basic points:

  • determination of functional areas;
  • marking installation locations for lighting elements;
  • choice of style and color design;
  • furnishings.

Before starting work, it is recommended to put the basic ideas for decorating a nursery on paper in advance. Draw up a drawing and make several sketches in different styles.

If the room is being prepared for teenagers, it is advisable to consult with them when choosing a design theme and furniture placement. The main task is to ensure that every child feels comfortable and safe in the nursery.

Theme for design

At a conscious age, a child’s hobbies change, idols and heroes appear. Designers show with their projects many themes and styles for the interior of a boy’s nursery, but the more common ones are:

Bright children's room in a modern style

  • Automotive theme. In it, the bed occupies a central place and is designed as a car. It is not difficult to make a bed yourself, but if desired, parents can purchase it in stores. Nowadays cabinet furniture manufacturers specialize in themed furniture, so choosing such a bed for your child is not difficult. One of the subtypes of this style is racing: in it, the checkered flag used at the finish line of races is used as a decorative component for cabinet fronts, bedside tables, pillowcases, sofa blankets, sofa cushions, etc.
  • Marine theme. This is not a budget renovation option that includes a hanging bed in the shape of a ship. Recommended color scheme for the room: blue, blue shades and white. Decorative elements: ship's anchor, lifebuoy, compass, maps, sea creatures. The doors of the linen closets should be turned into portholes, and a rope ladder should be hung on one of the walls. One of the subtypes of the marine theme will be the pirate style. It must contain a telescope, sea charts, a cocked hat, and a pirate flag.
  • The next good theme for decorating a boy’s room is space. To give the interior a cosmic touch, it is recommended to install a night sky projector or night light in the room. Mounted or suspended planets, shuttles, rockets, comets, stars, satellites will be useful.
  • The theme is sports. Decorating a room in this style gives a lot of room for imagination and motivates the child to play sports. The accent of such a nursery will be decorative cups and medals. Over time, the child himself will replace them with real ones. Frameless furniture is suitable here, for example, a chair (for example, in the shape of a soccer ball) on which it is comfortable to sit with friends and watch TV. One option for such a room is a stadium. To do this, a green covering similar to grass is laid on the floor.

How to properly and safely decorate the ceiling and walls

Photos of children's room renovations on many Internet sites give a broad idea of the layout possibilities. Having decided on the color scheme and general design principles, you need to focus on the finishing.

A separate stage in this regard will be the selection of wallpaper for the children's room of children of different sexes. There is a whole range of these products designed specifically for children:

  • paper;
  • liquid;
  • cork

Water-based paint was used to paint the nursery walls.

All of them have a good environmental record. The obvious disadvantage of paper ones is their fragility. But since children sometimes like to use walls for “their own” purposes, this minus will rather become a plus. Parents will not feel sorry for frequently changing the wall covering, because the pricing policy is very reasonable.

The photo of liquid wallpaper in a children's room shows that it is ideal for such rooms. They come in a variety of colors and are ideal for use, but their price is always higher than average. The third type - cork wallpaper is valued for its qualities as a natural material.

Wallpaper with imitation brickwork in the nursery

Considering various ideas for decorating the ceiling, you can focus on the following:

  • traditional light colors for the entire area;
  • using multi-level plasterboard boxes, which are subsequently painted in different colors;
  • thematic solution. Photos of ceilings in a children's room in the form of a blue sky with stars shining at night impress many parents. It can also be a photo print depicting a fragment of your favorite fairy tale.

Design of a children's room for a boy depending on age

Children grow and develop very quickly, this is what you need to pay attention to first when creating the ideal nursery for your child. With age, children and their needs change, which means their room should change along with it.

Children's room for a boy under 3 years old

For a child at this age, design is not important. The main thing is that it should be as comfortable as possible for the child and parents, as well as safe. To do this, you should give preference to furniture with rounded corners. It is best to use light or pastel shades for the walls. Bright color accents in a children's bedroom can be toys and stickers on the walls. And place a warm carpet on the floor.

It is recommended to make the room as simple and minimalist as possible, and with age to add more complex objects, toys and brighter colors to the nursery design.

Interior of a children's room for a boy 3-5 years old

At this age, the child’s individuality is formed. Desires are expressed and interests and hobbies appear that need to be encouraged. Therefore, it is worth placing a small table and a chair in the room so that the boy has his own workspace. You can also make a drawing board with colored chalks instead of a wall.

At this age, toys are still an important part for your baby. It is also necessary to teach cleanliness and order from childhood, so it is better to install convenient shelves or storage baskets for toys.

You can also allocate space in the room and install a wall bars; your baby will definitely love it.

Room for a schoolchild

The design of a children's room for a schoolboy boy becomes more complicated. Toys are gradually being replaced by books and notebooks. For a child at this age, it is necessary to create a full-fledged workplace for studying, add bookshelves and drawers for notebooks.

Special attention should be paid to hobbies. If your child is interested in music, if possible, place his musical instrument in the room; for an athlete, you can hang a pear, rope or crossbar, and for a young artist, you can install an easel

The decor of the room should become more serious. Instead of children's drawings and stickers, place paintings, posters or geographical maps that will add personality to the room.

Teen room design

In adolescence, a child can express his preferences in arranging a room. The main task of parents is to correctly match desires with opportunities.

Of course, the design of the room is becoming more serious; wallpaper with cars and posters with characters from your favorite cartoons are no longer appropriate here. You can use a single-color coating for the walls, and cover one wall with stylish photo wallpaper.

There are a lot of options for decorating a room for a teenage boy. The main thing is to find a suitable solution based on your child’s budget and interests.

Benefits of having two children in the same room

At first glance, there are no advantages to the fact that a brother and sister will share the same room. Especially if they are of different ages. However, this is not quite true:

Firstly, none of them will be bored and, if necessary, each can turn to the other for help or advice.

Secondly, it is living together that strengthens the relationship between brothers and sisters.

Thirdly, children learn to respect the personal space of others, not to spoil other people's things, and to better maintain order and discipline.

Also, when decorating a room in different color shades, children understand that they belong to a particular gender.

It should be noted that by placing children in one room, parents, in a sense, save space, especially if they share a two-room apartment with their children. Well, ideas for rooms for girls and boys will help you get out of this situation.

Lighting devices

It is imperative to provide high-quality lighting for children. LED lamps are the most practical as a light source. Correctly selected brightness of light creates coziness in the children's room and a feeling of security. It is more rational to give preference to local lighting, which creates its own atmosphere in each zone.

There should be no dark corners in the room, but the lighting should not be intrusive.

Instead of a massive chandelier, it is better to use built-in sconces and laconic lamps. Lighting should be sufficient in the learning and play areas. A lack of light while reading, drawing, playing with small objects will cause decreased vision and concentration. Select luminaire designs that allow easy cleaning from dust, materials that do not emit harmful substances when the temperature rises.

The switch must be at a height accessible to the child.

Lighting

For a children's room, it is considered correct to have several light sources located at different levels. In addition, lamps of different intensities should be selected in accordance with the functional purpose.

There are several areas where installation of a lamp is required:

  1. The main room chandelier on the ceiling is of medium intensity. Used when there is insufficient natural daylight for play or relaxation.
  2. A work lamp and bright lamps with special lenses that soften the harshness. They are used during study for writing and reading.
  3. A night light with an autonomous switch and a local halo is mounted in the sleeping area so as not to disturb the roommate. The intensity of the lamp should be adjustable or have several levels, allowing small residents to read or nap at will.

LED strips located in niches, along the edges of furniture, around paintings or posters will make the design of the room more individual and interesting.

Children's design depending on age

The rapid development of a child is the main factor that you should pay attention to when organizing the interior of a boy’s nursery. Who will live in it: a newborn with a minimum set of needs or a teenager who is interested in music? A room is a place from which children begin to explore the world, develop and form as individuals.

Therefore, choosing the right design means making your contribution to the happy future of your child. All elements should be relevant, interesting and pleasant to the occupant of the room. Let's consider the basic design rules for each stage of life!

Boy under 3 years old

In the first years of a boy, the design of a nursery is more important to parents. A comfortable crib, educational toys, plenty of space for movement and exploration - this is quite enough for a developing baby. Furniture must be safe, without sharp corners. The floor has a warm carpet that is easy to wash.

It is desirable that the interior be made in pastel colors, not too colorful, but at the same time varied enough so that the child learns to perceive shades and highlight objects of interest to him. Funny, aesthetic stickers will help decorate your child’s little “world.”

At first, it is better to organize a boy’s children’s room minimalistically, so that over time you can add new, more complex details and objects.

Boy from 3 to 5 years old

During this period, the children's individuality begins to form. They try to express their desires, which also relate to filling the room. Boys develop their own hobbies, so a small table and chair should be placed in a convenient place - a miniature workspace.

Entertaining and educational toys are still an important part. Parents gradually teach boys to be tidy, so storage spaces should be as convenient as possible.

Interior of a room for a schoolchild

Filling the interior becomes more complicated. Due to the fact that the boy is busy with the school curriculum, the priority is to purchase a full-fledged workplace with shelves for books, drawers for notebooks, and so on. Already at this age, the child must independently organize his personal area, while maintaining order.

Games gradually take the form of hobbies. For example, in the room of a young musician you need to find a place for a piano, or an artist for an easel.

Before this time, there was probably at least once a need to update the finish. Wall decor in the children's room becomes more serious, stickers are replaced by paintings. A wall with a large world map, which also creates color accents in the interior, will look relevant.

Room for a teenage boy

During this period, not as much depends on the tastes of the parents as on the family budget. A teenage boy shows independence in arranging a room, but this concerns more decorative elements: walls covered with posters, figurines from comic book fans, and so on.

Style selection

When combining the living space of two children of different sexes in one room, a compromise solution in design has to be found. Here age becomes the dominant factor.

For kids, country, ethnic, or wall painting with themed paintings featuring popular cartoon characters are more suitable. You can fit a child's interior into a marine style.

For this we use:

  • white, blue and light blue colors for wall decoration;
  • furniture made of natural wood;
  • interior details and accessories in red, gold and brown.

Zoning can be done with curtain sails, “masts” and rope ladders.

Teenagers will love a room decorated in one of the following design directions:

  • The classic style in the interior combines discreet beauty and everyday practicality. The “children's” option limits the use of luxurious decorative details and minimizes the number of small accessories. The furniture is selected to be wooden with legs. The walls should be painted in pastel colors or covered with wallpaper in muted shades with a floral pattern, monogram pattern or wide stripes. Only natural textiles are used. In this interior, sofa pillows with tassels and soft bolsters will be relevant. Garters and interceptions are suitable for curtains. Also, lambrequins and canopies will harmoniously fit into the design of a classic children's room.

  • A Scandinavian-style interior solution is suitable for small rooms. The finishing is extremely simple and laconic. The colors are white and light shades. The furniture is wooden, but painted. You don’t have to use textiles for the windows of a Scandinavian nursery at all, replacing them with roller blinds. Other fabric solutions are made from faux fur or using knitted fabrics. Garlands on fabric-wrapped wires are suitable as lighting elements.

  • High-tech, loft. The styles are certainly different from each other, but suitable for decorating a room, taking into account the future intellectual development of the child. Teenagers can independently change the interior in these styles by adding new accessories. Walls of soft colors give you the opportunity to create your own accents with furniture, accessories and decor. Modern technology will fit organically into such styles.

You should not implement industrial design solutions in limited space. Loft or high-tech will fit perfectly into the design of a small room with a high ceiling.

How to choose furniture

A teenage boy's room should contain basic and additional furniture. The main ones include a bed, a desk, a wardrobe, a bookcase, and the additional ones include hanging shelves for decoration, room zoning elements, and a sofa. Simple tips on arranging and choosing furniture will help you decide on the right option.

For a small room, it is best to use modular furniture, which will be decorated in one color scheme. The desk should be multifunctional (for lessons, computer work, creativity, reading) and roomy. Most often, a self-assembled table meets these criteria. Hanging shelves will be an excellent alternative to bulky racks for accessories.

If you decide to purchase wooden furniture, be sure to take a closer look at its edges. They should be free of any roughness or cracks. A sliding wardrobe is suitable for storing things; in addition, it will fit into almost any interior style. For greater practicality and additional safety, you should give preference to open bookshelves without a glass or metal door.

Storage systems

Any bedroom needs well-equipped storage space. These can be a hinged wardrobe or a compartment, chests of drawers, cabinets, shelves. If there is not enough space near each bed, you can place a pencil case or allocate separate shelves for children in one closet. A good solution would be to have drawers under the beds and a built-in wardrobe.

Design of a children's room 7-8 sq.m.

To organize a room of 7-8 square meters, the same techniques are used as described above: light colors, multifunctional furniture, a minimum of decor. But I would like to add that it is preferable to choose bedside tables, bookcases, wardrobes and chests of drawers not in standard sizes, but in smaller, compact sizes. For example, for a rack, a depth of 28 cm would be more optimal, rather than the standard 36 cm. Or, for a small room, it is more logical to purchase a compact chest of drawers with a depth of 45 cm, rather than 60 - 75 cm. When choosing a cabinet, give preference to a model with sliding rather than hinged doors. Every centimeter should be managed rationally, so feel free to use all sorts of tricks and techniques.

Features of a teenage room

A year or two after the child graduates from primary school, almost all parents are faced with the problem of refurbishment of the children's room in a more adult format. As a rule, there is a need to replace furniture, and the decoration often needs updating. All this requires a lot of attention and resources, but if you think through all the details in advance, the stylish design will delight the young owner until adulthood, or even longer.

Ergonomics of furniture

When choosing a new bed, desk and computer desk for a teenager’s room, you should pay attention to transforming models. The ability to adjust the height, width or length will not only be useful from the point of view of the teenager’s convenience and health, but will also significantly save the family budget

As for cabinets and shelves, they should have a good supply of free space for future replenishment of the wardrobe and storage of all necessary things.

Neutral finish

During adolescence, children's tastes and preferences often change. To adapt the interior to new hobbies, it is advisable to choose a neutral design, in which there is always room for noticeable accents. For example, you can set aside one wall or niche for your favorite pictures, photographs or posters - this way the teenager will have a place for self-expression, and the remaining surfaces will serve as a discreet background for a longer time.

The influence of colors

Ambient shades have a great influence on the mental and physical state of adolescents - they are especially sensitive to aggressive combinations that can often be observed in various subcultures. The predominant color in underground youth movements is black, sometimes interspersed with red, hot pink, and yellow. Decorating a room in these colors can cause depression, outbursts of irritation, and sleep disturbances. It is better to replace gloomy and overly bright colors with calmer tones. Light gray, beige, blue, green, brown are suitable as a base.
