Every housewife pays special attention to the choice of bedding. A good night's sleep is vital, and it's most comfortable to rest under a good quality blanket when it's cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Choosing a suitable sleeping set is not difficult; you just need to take into account the wishes of your loved ones and your own preferences. The modern textile industry offers such a wide range that it is easy to get confused, but if you approach the purchase with information that is already known in advance, such as the size of bed linen, it will be much easier to decide.
What standards are there?
Each country has its own standard sizes of blankets, focused on specific parameters of furniture or mattresses. Therefore, it is incorrect to assume that there is a single standard.
For example, in Russia a double blanket has the most common size - 172x205. Such parameters gained popularity in the Soviet Union and England. In Germany: 180 x 220, 200 x 220; in Spain 210×250, 200×210, etc.
There are less common models, for example, 200x200. The square blanket is hard to find, as is the bedding underneath. But they are easy to use: to change the duvet cover, you don’t need to look at which direction is “along” and which is “across”.
The width of a large double blanket can vary from 175 to 220 cm, length from 200 to 240 cm.
Besides size, there are other factors to consider:
- how much does it weigh;
- materials;
- filling.
Weighted blanket: what is it and why is it needed?
At the very beginning of the article, we already mentioned that the central nervous system responds to a certain pressure on the body by releasing serotonin, after which a more active production of melatonin begins. As a result, the person relaxes and sleeps more soundly. This property is used in weighted blankets, that is, blankets with extra weight.
Research shows that weighted blankets help reduce anxiety[] and stress levels and help with insomnia[]. Pediatricians recommend these blankets for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Even though studies have not shown that a special blanket can improve the sleep of such children, scientists still recognized that children themselves prefer weighted blankets to regular blankets.
Different models of weighted blankets weigh from 2 kg to 13 kg. They use natural materials, such as buckwheat, or small plastic beads. You need to select the weight of the blanket based on the weight of the person who will sleep under it. For example, the creators of the Gravity blanket, popular in the USA, explain that the weight of the blanket should be 10% of a person’s weight.
What else do you need for a good sleep:
Types
The textile industry offers a wide range of blankets. To distinguish them, you need to know the main categories of goods by size.
Single or semi-double
A single blanket is often purchased for a single or single bed. It is designed for an adult. The standard size of a one-and-a-half blanket is 140x205. There are other models:
- 150×210;
- 155×210;
- 130×220;
- 160×205.
1.5 sleeping blankets fit standard 160x220 beds.
They are also called family ones because many spouses prefer their own personal one-and-a-half-hour blanket. For this reason, bed linen sets are sold with a large sheet for a double bed and two duvet covers for a single bed.
Double blanket
The most popular blankets are for 2 bedrooms. They are very wide, so they are designed for two people and a large bed. Since Soviet times, the size of a double blanket with parameters 175x205 has firmly established itself. But the dimensions don't stop there. There are wider, longer, such sizes of 2-room models are called euro and euro maxi.
Euro and Euro maxi
Euro blankets, like one and a half blankets, have several size ranges. The most common size of a Euro blanket is 200x220. Bedding companies have recognized this value as universal and are actively producing products to these standards.
There are also models with parameters 195x215. They are not so common in Russia; they are more in demand in the CIS countries.
The largest blanket that can be found on sale: 220x240. It is also called “royal”. The maxi Euro blanket is suitable for tall people and lovers of huge beds: wide beds, three-seater sofas. However, users have a problem with finding bed linen; it is available, but it is not so easy to find, so many have to be sewn to order.
It is necessary to select the length and width taking into account the size of the mattress. To make the oversized blanket comfortable to wear, it is recommended to purchase this bed linen with dimensions slightly wider than the mattress.
Baby in crib
For children there is also no single meaning. Some are for children, others for teenagers. The following items may be on sale:
- 110x140cm;
- 125x150cm;
- 105x115cm;
- 80x90cm;
- 95x100cm.
The dimensions of the blanket are selected taking into account the height of the child and the parameters of the children's bed. For teenagers, it is better to buy a single or one-and-a-half bed.
Nuances when purchasing
Some tricks will help you visually determine the quality of a blanket and not get deceived, as well as how to avoid common mistakes when purchasing, and also see reviews: which blanket is better to choose.
How to choose a quality blanket:
- Sewing assessment: the filler should not appear in the seams and generally reveal itself in any way, the lines are even, preferably a cassette stitch (for feather versions) or a diamond stitch (for all others). The filler can be padding polyester or holofiber.
- Verification of documents: in fact, everyone knows that it is necessary to ask for a quality certificate, but few have seen it in person. It is also necessary to pay attention to the label and packaging of the product itself: a reputable manufacturer always takes care of these little things to ensure that the product is safe.
Some companies are still trying to make the packaging more elegant in case of purchase as gifts.
Avoid:
- damaged or frankly homemade packaging;
- unclear labels where it is impossible to recognize the manufacturer’s brand and basic information about the product;
- care recommendations should also be comprehensive.
Choose any color you like, the main thing is to check the quality of the coloring.
Regarding the size: there is no need to choose non-standard blanket options, so as not to have to worry about finding suitable sleeping sets later. Rarely, there are complaints about the blanket’s too rich color, which can show through through light-colored linen; in order to avoid such embarrassment, it is better to think about this factor.
There are many models of cozy and high-quality one-and-a-half blankets on sale. All sizes of a one-and-a-half duvet cover can be viewed in this article. The material used for sewing, the type of filling and seasonality can be selected to suit every taste and financial capabilities. An important selection criterion will be the dimensions of the blanket, which are best chosen from the standard line so as not to create difficulties when purchasing bed linen.

What size blankets are there?
First of all, it is worth mentioning that blankets are divided into children's, one-and-a-half, double, euro, “king” and non-standard sizes. Their names speak for themselves; they are intended for children, for one or two people. The name of the truck (the so-called family blanket) is associated not with the number of people it can transport, but with the width of the product - 1.5 m, and it is sewn both for teenagers and for spouses who are accustomed to sleeping under different blankets. Each of these blankets has its own characteristics. They may correspond to certain standard values, or they may differ from them. Let's take a closer look at what the size of a double blanket is.
General information
Varieties
Blankets can be classified according to certain characteristics.
Filler type
Blanket dimensions
One-and-a-half blankets have the following dimensions: 1.5*2.2 meters and 1.45*2.05 meters. By the way, the first ones are in incredible demand, and the double size is 1.75 * 2.05 meters. Euro standard is 2*2.2 meters.
Heat degree
In order to mark a product on the packaging, a certain number of dots are put down (this is a kind of marking):
Tailoring and style
To ensure that the filling inside the blanket does not bunch up into a single lump, it is necessary to stitch the products. There are 3 style directions here:
Such signs are basic, and according to them, blankets differ from each other. But in order to choose a comfortable stay, you should remember their differences. Everyone’s preferences and sleep patterns are different, which means that their accessory requirements will vary greatly. It is an individual approach that can help you make the right choice.
What exactly should a “one and a half” be like?
The standard in Russia for the size of a one-and-a-half blanket is somewhat different from the others. Products with one and a half sizes are in incredible demand among buyers. This is a great option for people who prefer to sleep alone. Below we present a list of the most popular dimensions:
A one-and-a-half-size blanket is often purchased for children who are a little older. This is explained by the fact that under such a blanket the child will sleep freely and comfortably. It should be remembered that there are no specific production rules and product selection. Everything will depend on personal preferences and the quality of the materials used. standards that are extremely popular may simply not suit you. This requires an individual approach.
comparison table
The main Russian standard sizes are clearly presented in the table.
Blanket type Dimensions in centimeters
One and a half | 140×205 |
Double | 172×205 |
Euro | 155 x 215, 220 x 220 |
Baby | 100 x 140, 110 x 140 |
When purchasing such products, please note that the duvet cover should be 5 centimeters wider and longer. This difference will allow you to stuff the blanket without any problems, and possible shrinkage of the fabric will not be an unpleasant surprise.
If you become the owner of a bed with non-standard parameters, many workshops provide services for individual tailoring of bed linen.
Main dimensions of blankets
Each parameter of products from a Russian manufacturer is based on standards approved by GOST R 51554-99. Despite the large size range, deviation from the requirements should not exceed 3%. In recent years, due to the emergence of goods from foreign companies, the Euro standard size has appeared, which is in great demand.
The dimensions of the product vary relative to its main dimensions, which are generally considered to be:

Bed linen manufacturers
In textile stores you can find products from a variety of manufacturing companies; the undisputed leaders in the sale of such goods are Turkish companies. Excellent quality and premium goods are represented by Italy and France, and Chinese products will be the most common. Domestic manufacturers are not lagging behind, as well as Ukrainian ones, with an assortment of European products.
The following information about the most recognized leaders in the textile industry will help you choose the appropriate option. All these products are guaranteed to be distinguished by the quality of tailoring and environmentally friendly raw materials; the difference can only be noticed by comparing the materials used. The cost will mainly depend on this, but the final choice, of course, is yours.
How to choose the right size double duvet
We determine the size of a suitable blanket based on the size of the bed and the height of the people sleeping under it.
This product is convenient due to the ability to completely cover the bed and create an airy and cozy atmosphere. To get the desired effect, it is important to choose the right size of the double blanket. It is recommended to choose models with a minimum width of 170 cm and a maximum length of 210 cm. When purchasing, you need to rely not only on the dimensions of the bed, but also on the height of the person. This will allow you to choose the best option to completely hide in your sleep.
Double models are used by couples and those who can sit comfortably in a spacious bed. In addition to assessing your own height, before purchasing, it is important to compare the product with the dimensions of the bed. You can measure the bed to find out the exact size of the blanket.
Non-standard sizes are often made to order for specific non-standard furniture
Blankets made of synthetic materials
The main advantages of synthetic blankets are their high wear resistance and affordable price. Thanks to the variety of synthetic fibers, products attract an abundance of design options, structure and colors of the fabric.
Made from acrylic fiber
Externally, blankets made of acrylic thread resemble woolen ones: quite soft to the touch, with a pleasant fluffiness, light and breathable. The color range is extremely varied, the design is predominantly traditional: a rectangular woven panel with a long fringe. Acrylic blankets are easy to wash and dry quickly; they can be machine washed, however, over time, pellets may appear on the surface, spoiling the appearance.
Acrylic fibers do not absorb moisture, so using the blanket as a blanket is not recommended. However, the disadvantages of synthetic fiber are made up for by their low cost. This is an ideal option for a picnic, cottage or trip: even if the fabric gets very dirty, it will not be difficult to wash it.
Made from microfiber
Polyamide or polyester fiber, called microfiber (microfiber), has a special fluffy structure that provides excellent hygroscopicity, softness and comfortable warmth. Light, cozy and inexpensive, the blanket is extremely durable and can withstand repeated washing in the machine, and dries quickly after spinning. It can be used as a blanket or bedspread, or taken on the road or to the country house. However, frequent washing leads to loss of appearance, although the product still remains quite warm and soft.
Made from fleece
Voluminous and lightweight fleece is excellent for making blankets. It is quite durable, does not fade in the sun, retains heat well, and washes well. If necessary, a fleece blanket can be dry cleaned, steamed or ironed. Fleece fiber is made from polyester, so it does not cause allergic reactions even in sensitive people. The material is prone to the accumulation of static charges and therefore requires periodic treatment with an antistatic agent. A fleece blanket can be used as a blanket, used to cover beds, and taken with you on the road or to the country house.
Faux fur
The undoubted advantages of faux fur blankets include, first of all, their luxurious appearance, soft structure and high wear resistance. The products are produced in a wide variety of colors and textures, imitating the play of shades of natural fur or being a plain fabric. In addition, fur blankets are very warm and relatively light.
Unlike natural furs, artificial pile is not afraid of moths and moisture, and can be washed infrequently by machine. The disadvantage of the products is their tendency to electrify. In addition, long pile attracts and collects dust, so the blanket needs frequent beating and vacuuming. A fur blanket looks great as a bedspread or a spectacular throw on a sofa or chair.
Knitted blankets
As a rule, synthetic or blended yarn is used to make knitted blankets. Typically, acrylic or polyester fiber is used for this, since these synthetic threads are structurally similar to natural wool. The finished product looks very cozy and attractive and retains heat perfectly. A knitted blanket is thrown over the bed instead of a bedspread, draped over a sofa or chair, and wrapped in it when it gets cold. You should not take a knitted blanket on a trip or on a picnic, as frequent washing is detrimental to it.
Rules for choosing a baby blanket
- The product should be light, as if it had no weight.
- It perfectly allows air to pass through, absorbs moisture, and removes it to the external environment.
- They have a high level of hygroscopicity.
- It corresponds to the season and time of year in terms of warmth.
- Do not provoke the development of allergies.
- The product should be easy to wash, clean and dry quickly.
- Bed linen must be suitable for the child.
They buy two blankets for the child - one for winter and one for summer, which helps to avoid hypothermia and overheating. It also matters what kind of insulation is inside the blanket. The main materials from which baby blankets are made include:
- Pooh. Suitable for apartments where the air temperature does not exceed +18. Duvets are made from goose, swan or loon feathers, which are lightweight, absorb moisture well and allow air to pass through.
- Wool. Use it in houses and apartments where it is cool or humid. Wool absorbs moisture and sweat, so your baby will always be dry while sleeping. Wool blankets are made from camel, sheep and llama wool.
- Bamboo. Lightweight, high quality, versatile material that is breathable and moisture wicking. Bamboo blankets are antibacterial and anti-allergenic.
- Sintepon. An artificial filling that is often used to make blankets. Suitable for dry rooms where it is cool. Sintepon does not contribute to the development of allergies, does not accumulate dust and extinguishes static electricity. At the same time, the material is somewhat worse than down, and bamboo allows fresher air to pass through.
- Hollow fiber. Recently it has been used for filling blankets, as it provides temperature regulation, normal air circulation, warms in winter, cools in summer.
- Cotton. It is considered a heavy material, so it is used less often for sewing blankets than wool, down or bamboo. In addition, cotton tends to wrinkle during washing.
- Wool. Expensive natural material with many advantages. Firstly, it does not cause allergies. Secondly, it protects against bacteria and moisture. Thirdly, it maintains normal temperature conditions.
- Bike. Fabric blankets are very light, pleasant and warm in winter. Flannel blankets do not require special care, last a long time, and do not wear out.
- Fleece or calico. These materials are used to sew checkered blankets, which are universal products.
When choosing a blanket for babies, there are several parameters to consider, the main one being the material. Linen and cotton products are suitable for the warm months of the year; plaids, woolen and quilts are suitable for winter and autumn.

Common content
Fillers are of natural or synthetic origin, and there are combined models. Each has advantages and disadvantages.
Natural
- Wool. An environmentally friendly product is used as filler: camel, cashmere, sheep wool. It warms perfectly and allows air to pass through. This is due to the curling structure of the fibers, which forms an air cushion that traps heat. The waviness of the wool also ensures that the filler retains its shape. Even with regular use, it will not crumple or mat. Disadvantages include: allergic reactions, delicate care, high price.
- Pooh. For all their volume, such bedding is very light. For example, the Brinkhaus brand offers products weighing only 910 g, despite the fact that the size of the blanket is 200x220. The advantages also include: softness, breathability, excellent warming properties. Disadvantages: fluff absorbs moisture, which is why it needs to be periodically fluffed, dried, and ventilated; high price; with insufficient care - dust mites, which provoke allergies.
- Silk. This material does not cause allergies. Resistant to temperature fluctuations, has a long service life, hygroscopic, antistatic, lightweight, durable. Does not create a greenhouse effect, because has excellent thermoregulatory qualities - maintains optimal body temperature regardless of the time of year. The silk is soft and pleasant to the body. Disadvantages: delicate care, high cost, sometimes manufacturers add impurities, passing off silk textiles as homogeneous.
- Bamboo. Has excellent breathability properties. Bamboo fibers prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi. They do not absorb unpleasant odors, so they delight the owner with cleanliness and freshness for a long time. They weigh little, are strong, durable. Disadvantages: the material wrinkles, so regular beating is required, high price.
Synthetic
- Holofiber is a synthetic filler with a hollow structure. Lightweight, hypoallergenic, warm and reliable. Its properties are similar to swan's down. The degree of heat is determined by the density of the filler. Good air exchange. Disadvantages: after frequent wet treatments, it loses its original elasticity, lightness, and durability.
- Ecofiber - similar in properties to bird down. The filler has the appearance of thin, repeatedly twisted hairs that intersect with each other and retain heat. Only environmentally friendly products are used for production. Does not absorb odors, is moisture resistant, there is no breeding ground for pathogenic microflora. The filler is light, for example, the weight of a one-and-a-half-size standard blanket is 1-1.5 kg. Disadvantages: electrification, loss of elasticity after 2-3 years.
- Comforel - looks like fluffy synthetic balls. It allows air to pass through well and retains heat. Polyester fiber is treated with antibacterial impregnations, which protects against the development of pathogenic microflora. This filler is cheap, light, soft. Disadvantages: shorter service life than holofiber and ecofiber due to the lower elasticity of the fibers.
- Synthetic winterizer - has become widespread because... light, warm, inexpensive. It has the form of non-woven fiber or canvas made of synthetic fibers, which are glued together using high temperatures or adhesives. Disadvantages: almost does not allow air to pass through, deforms after just a few washes; toxicity (if glue was used in production).
