Bedroom in a classic style: basic elements of style, design features and bedroom decoration

Photo: 2gis.ru For several years now, minimalist trends have remained in fashion, but classics are just that, classics that are outside their framework. The bedroom is always about calm, harmony, balance and maximum comfort. Do you think the same? Then an elegant, classic bedroom design is probably your choice! And we are ready to tell you more about them.

Classic style

Involves creating a harmonious and aesthetic interior. In general, each era was reflected in style decisions. Apparently, this is why the need of artists and architects of the 7th-8th centuries for beauty, the desire to see an organic composition, was reflected in interior items.

They were inspired by ancient Greek culture with large spaces, understated luxury, marble columns and a light palette.

Nowadays, it is easy to notice this influence on the classic bedroom design, which is expressed in the use of elements characteristic of that time.

Let us outline the general features of the style:

  • the presence of a center is a prerequisite for constructing a composition. The starting point can be anything and be located anywhere, but all surrounding objects are located in relation to it, including finishing elements. According to the designer's idea, there can be from one to several such axes;
  • symmetry - the right side of the room should mirror the left. All lines are clear, understandable, complete;
  • space - even in small rooms it is necessary to use techniques to visually expand the space;
  • the presence of arches - smooth curves are actively used along with square and rectangular shapes;
  • an abundance of light - chandeliers, wall sconces, candelabra, encased in crystal, bronze and Bohemian glass;
  • use of natural materials;
  • pastel colors: beige, pearl, white;
  • abundant decoration with stucco molding, pilasters, fabrics with gold threads.

How to properly arrange lighting?

Lighting can be general, local, functional and decorative. And all these types are sure to be present in modern bedrooms.

You will need general lighting during cleaning, getting ready, etc.

Local lighting (i.e. lighting in a specific place) in the bedroom is bedside tables or wall sconces replacing them, floor lamps and low-set ceiling lamps.

Functional lighting will be required near the desk or dressing table, as well as near closets with clothes (if any).

Well, decorative lighting is simply beautiful and helps create a special atmosphere in the bedroom.

Antiquity

This direction combines Greek and Roman components. Although they are quite different, to design a bedroom in a classic style, it is customary to follow the general rules:

  • the room should be spacious enough with a high ceiling;
  • the ceiling is spherical or divided into squares by structures;
  • parquet or mosaic for the floor;
  • the use of stucco molding, borders, rosettes, colonnades is mandatory;
  • work only with natural materials.

A classic-style bedroom in light colors, designed taking into account all the requirements of the antique style, will look luxurious and at the same time discreet.

Popular headsets

  • "Ophelia" - a set from the Russian. It combines harmony and symmetry, classicism and baroque. Every little detail has been thought out: a patterned headboard, a banquette, a spacious wardrobe with a large mirror, unusual bedside tables - everything radiates luxury. All products have white or beige colors, which will visually enlarge the space and create an atmosphere of calm.
  • "Stella" is the embodiment of neoclassicism. The Russian factory Interdesign created a white bedroom with voluminous silver patterns. The set consists of a snow-white soft bed, a spacious wardrobe and a chest of drawers.
  • “Madrid” is a luxurious, cozy bedroom from the Eurasia brand, consisting of a bed, a high chest of drawers, two bedside tables, a dressing table, a mirror and a pouf. All items are made in the same color scheme and combine ivory color with gold patina.
  • “Daniella” is a bedroom set from Chinese. The gentle beige color of the bedroom will look harmonious with a restrained classic finish. The set itself consists of a double patterned bed, two bedside tables and a dressing table with a large mirror, which stands in a patterned frame. Such furniture can emphasize the individuality of the room and fill it with comfort.

Baroque

“Palace style” announces itself with pomp and wealth. There is an abundance of gold in everything: in decoration, upholstery, picture frames, candlesticks and fittings. Furniture made of precious wood: ebony, red, ivory and decorated with complex patterns.

So that the pretentiousness and some theatricality of the compositions do not catch the eye, related elements are stylized in one direction: according to the type of wood or the theme of the plot.

The design of a classic bedroom in the Baroque style will be made in white and gold tones, and the walls will be decorated with tapestries and mirrors in handmade frames.

Selection of decorative elements

Without decorative elements, the bedroom interior will look unfinished. Large mirrors in massive gilded frames, paintings with biblical or ancient subjects, landscapes, figurines, and vases are perfect for this.

A large mirror with a gilded frame, a candlestick and a floor lamp on an elegant base complement the decor of the room.

The interior will be decorated with antique clocks, candelabra, and candlesticks. Ideally, these will be antiques or imitation antiquities.

The paintings on the walls perfectly complement the interior

The main condition is that they all must be stylistically combined with each other and used in small quantities so as not to turn the room into a kind of warehouse.

Rococo

The movement originated as a continuation of the Baroque and inherited most of the characteristics of the style. However, lightness and grace appeared in the overall ensemble, achieved through the use of pink, blue, green colors diluted with white.

Rounded smooth lines, gold and copper decor, and an abundance of screens and sofa cushions also contributed. Of course, it is difficult to implement such a design in a classic-style bedroom interior, but using individual characteristic elements is quite acceptable.

Bedroom design with a blue bed. Photo of the project

In a bedroom with a classic design, it is best to choose one color accent. It could be a blue bed. Blue combined with white creates an atmosphere of calm. The bed can be decorated with pillows and bedspreads with a light pattern.

There are miniature vases and frames with photographs on the bedside tables. On the opposite side of the bed is a great place to install a TV. The window in the bedroom can be combined with a reading area. For this purpose, a narrow shelving unit is placed, and the window sill is converted into additional seating.

Empire style

It was in this direction that an entire era was reflected. Napoleon, who was inspired by the architecture of Ancient Rome, wanted to capture his power and greatness in it.

The Empire style most clearly reflects the whole essence of antiquity with its monumentality, desire for symmetry and inspiring awe of the greatness of the emperor.

Distinctive features are the decoration of walls with military-themed canvases, family coats of arms and the use of rich and luxurious velvet of various shades in furniture upholstery.

What accessories should I use?

The bedroom is a very intimate space, therefore you should be surrounded not only (and not so much) by what is fashionable, but by what you personally like.

These could be family photographs, favorite paintings, hobby items, figurines, unusual installations... The main thing is not to overdo it with their number! Everything should be in moderation.

In this regard, the Scandinavian style of interior design is very indicative (it is also one of the main interpretations of modern style as such). It is based on the idea that even ordinary everyday objects can and should look as if they were works of art.

So, if you have the choice of buying something ordinary or something fancy (like a glass coat rack) for your bedroom, always choose the second option.

Gothic

Many people consider the direction gloomy, but do not underestimate its gloominess. You can look at it from the other side: mystery, mysticism. High ceilings, pointed openings of windows and arches - all this symbolizes upward movement.

It is almost impossible to recreate such an environment in an apartment, but anyone can use decorative elements and stylize the room as “Gothic”: just place a stained glass window, wrought iron decor or a lamp.

Modern

The first direction that crossed the boundaries of antiquity. The retreat consisted of the use of smooth curves, the “flowing” of one object into another. Due to this, the interior became “rounded” and flexible.

The classic style of a modern bedroom assumes the presence of airiness and lightness of space through the creation of stained glass windows, floral prints on wallpaper, curls on furniture, and paintings depicting animals.

National

As it developed, the classical style acquired features from different countries. For example, now English, French, and Russian styles are distinguished. The British actively use checks, stripes, and colonial themes in decor, the French use stucco molding, large chandeliers, and gilded frames.

Russians like to introduce elements of “nationality”: a lot of wood, tiles, original ornaments.

Neoclassical

An excellent symbiosis of old and new: it retains the main features and expands the concept with new possibilities. This is a kind of compromise for those who do not want to give up the aesthetics of beauty and at the same time want to keep up with the times.

Modern classics in the bedroom interior involve the use of innovative materials in decoration, the use of elements of a different stylistic orientation and a departure from traditional colors.

You can move away from principles and give freedom to creativity by using the following tools:

  • color solutions based on soft contrast;
  • The main rule of finishing is the use of high-quality, expensive materials. However, here it is allowed to use both a suspended ceiling and stucco molding or beams;
  • the set can be designed in a minimalist style, but characteristic furniture in the form of a couch or display cabinet must be present;
  • the lighting appears to be a crystal chandelier with pendants;
  • curtains made of smooth silk or taffeta - a tribute to the classics;
  • the presence of a mirror in a heavy gilded frame is required;
  • pilasters, bas-reliefs, rosettes - these attributes should speak of your respectability.

A bedroom in the style of modern classics is essentially eclectic, combining elements of 2-3 styles. It is not at all necessary to use a lot of borrowed details; it is enough to just “dilute” the existing design with a couple of items to get a completely new interior.

Interior design in modern classics. Ideas for apartment planning solutions

Open plan, conditional zoning, expanded functionality - all this is about the neoclassical style in the interior. The photo below shows examples of popular and very interesting compositional and planning solutions for apartments, with which you can create a beautiful and comfortable living space.

Dining area on the podium in the kitchen-living room

As a rule, decorators use a pendant lamp to highlight the living room and dining area in the interior. But the designers of the Angelika Prudnikova Studio found a more spectacular and unusual solution - they designed a podium for the dining group, which is a continuation of the kitchen floor. It was integrated into the interior with the help of a white high plinth, so that the composition was completed.

9. Traditional sofa area

A light set of upholstered furniture, consisting of two sofas and an armchair with an original “edging” made of dark wood, is a traditional solution for a living room in the neoclassical or art deco style. By placing them around a stylish coffee table, the designers of the Angelika Prudnikova Studio created a harmonious relaxation area in a multifunctional living room.

Neoclassicism in the interior of a kitchen with an island. Photo 2018

A compact island in a kitchen decorated in a modern classic style is more than appropriate. It will perfectly complement the corner set and can be used as an additional work surface, serving table or bar counter. In order for the island to fit organically into the interior composition, its design should be as laconic as possible, and the countertop should be made of the same material as the work surface (in the kitchen in the photo it is exclusive chocolate-colored marble).

Seating area with corner sofa

A white corner sofa with rounded armrests is just a godsend for a neoclassical kitchen-living room. This model will solve several problems at once: it perfectly organizes space in the recreation area and unobtrusively zones the room. And one more important point: the corner sofa does not need companions, so you can dispense with armchairs.

Mini library

For a small apartment where it is not possible to arrange a separate office with a library, tall and narrow bookshelves would be an excellent solution. They can be equipped on both sides of the window, supplemented with lighting and combined with the surrounding environment using a decorative molded cornice.

Boudoir area in the bedroom

A boudoir area in the bedroom is convenient and practical. It can be used for its intended purpose or as a compact workstation. The main thing is to choose a dressing table that suits the design and a comfortable chair. And if there is no free corner in the room, the boudoir area can be located at the foot of the bed - next to the chest of drawers or TV.

Portal between kitchen and living room

All photos In the photo: Portal between the kitchen and living room in the residential complex “Club House on Tchaikovsky”

In the tradition of the classics, the separation of the kitchen and living room. But the neoclassical interior in the photo is a completely different matter. Here the living room smoothly flows into the kitchen due to a wide portal that visually unites the two rooms. And to make this “border” even more blurred, the designers of the Angelika Prudnikova Studio decorated the end part of the portal with mirror tiles.

Dining room in the center of the studio kitchen-living room

All photos In the photo: Dining room in the entrance area of the apartment in the Rozmarin residential complex

The studio layout of the public area of the apartment in the Rozmarin residential complex made it possible to place all functional areas as ergonomically as possible. The kitchen, separated from the rest of the space by a bar counter, is located at the end wall, the living room is closer to the hall, and the dining room is strictly between them.

Ceiling

Modern technologies are also used for its design: a complex suspended ceiling, enriched with polyurethane finishing in the form of stucco molding, borders, cornices, will fit perfectly into the overall ensemble.

Manufacturers offer coffered structures that imitate the ceiling being covered with beams in the form of sections, inside which paintings can be placed. Skillfully placed lighting will emphasize the antiquity of the entire composition.

Wall decoration

If you use wallpaper, it is better to choose a silk texture or convex classic patterns. Textile wallpaper will be especially good in a combination of different types as a panel.

Stucco molding in the form of moldings, cornices or semi-columns serves as decorative elements. Above the head of the bed you can place a traditional landscape or a three-dimensional painting stylized as antique.

Furniture

A classic bedroom interior involves the use of furniture made from natural wood, perfectly crafted and covered with jacquard, tapestry or leather fabric. The legs of dressing tables and banquettes should be gracefully curved, and the armrests should be carved.

The handles of cabinets with hinged doors, like all fittings, are made of bronze or gold metal. The bed with the headboard is given a central place, and it should look accordingly - thoroughly.

Bedroom 12 sq. m.

The average dimensions of the bedroom allow you to create a cozy design. The main emphasis is on a bed with a high headboard. To decorate the bed, you can use a thick bedspread and several decorative pillows.

On the sides of the bed there are two cabinets for books and other small items on which to place lamps.

For the walls, blue shades with a delicate floral pattern were chosen, which correspond to the classic style. White tulle and thick plain curtains were used to decorate the window.

The classic style gives unlimited possibilities when creating an individual bedroom interior. Moreover, classics do not go out of fashion, which means the interior will not lose its relevance.

Decor and textiles

Since luxury and modesty should be present in everything, this also applies to decor: porcelain, bronze figurines, antique items, crystal chandeliers and lamps, paintings in heavy frames, tapestries, frescoes. It is not necessary to use all the items at once, otherwise the interior will be pompous and tasteless.

Choose fabrics in natural pearl, beige, light green shades. Combine them harmoniously. Carpets of non-garish colors are welcome, perhaps with an ornament around the perimeter.

It doesn’t matter what room design you choose: a mysterious gothic or a luxurious, bright bedroom in a classic style. The main thing is that it is functional and gives you aesthetic and practical pleasure.

Floor coverings

We recommend natural wooden parquet with inlay to highlight the sleeping area. The ornament can be floral or geometric. A high quality laminate can be used, practically indistinguishable from parquet.

In the bedroom, natural fluffy carpets with a pleasant, soft pattern would be appropriate on the floor. Modern classic styling allows for the installation of carpet in light shades.
