Since I have to live in a relatively small apartment, I am constantly looking for additional space where I can store my things or shoes. I try to use the small area of my home functionally. There are several nooks and crannies in my house that still remain unfilled. One of these places is the space under the bed. Since my shoe collection is constantly growing (and I'm not ashamed of it), I decided it was time to make my own storage unit on wheels, which I placed under my bed.
In spacious drawers I want to hide shoes that I wear a little less often. This would include sandals, which I might want to hide out of sight for a while. When I came up with the idea of making my own drawers, I thought it might be more difficult than it seems. But ultimately this turned out not to be the case.

I purchased simple wooden boxes from a craft store. The drawers are low enough to fit under my bed. Since the wood is soft and inexpensive, it is easy to drill. Admittedly, the drawers didn't look the best, but that didn't bother me too much because I wanted to store them under the bed where they wouldn't be visible.

Each box turned out to hold several pairs of shoes, so the new boxes quickly freed up space in my closet so I could go on my next shopping trip. I was really inspired by these roll-out drawers, the idea of which was quite simple to implement. I only needed a few available devices and tools. Even the girl coped with this task in just a few minutes.

Preparation of materials
If you, like me, have space under your bed that can be used to store useful items, items or shoes, you can make your own boxes on wheels. To carry out the work I needed: the wooden boxes themselves, wheels, as well as screws for them, a drill, a pencil and paint. The latter may not be purchased. And if you still have it from renovation, why not take advantage of such a good opportunity.

Having decided to use the space under the bed to arrange drawers with bedding, it is necessary to resolve the issue of their design. Drawers can be retractable, with rollers attached to the bottom. This design is simple to implement and does not require major modifications to the bed itself.
But there is one drawback - the need to create free space near the bed for moving drawers, and this is not always possible to do without making revolutionary rearrangements in the entire bedroom.
There is a design option where access to the free space under the bed can be obtained by lifting the very base of the bed on which the mattress lies on special brackets.
But a complication arises again - each time to get the bed it is necessary to remove the bedspread, then the mattress, and sometimes one of the family members. Although modern mattresses are not heavy, this is a clear inconvenience.

In addition, lifting the base every day can cause rapid wear and tear on the bed frame. Beds themselves are static furniture and are not intended to be moved frequently. Attaching the brackets for the lifting mechanism will also require strengthening the entire structure of the sleeping bed.
Most furniture makers give a clear preference to the option when the drawers are pulled out. This design practically does not affect the bed itself and requires minimal alteration of the frame. The manufacture of beds with sliding panels does not cause any difficulties and does not require the use of complex mechanisms, for example, microlifts, to smoothly raise and lower the bed.
Instructions for carrying out work
First you need to turn the box upside down to make it easier to work with. It is necessary to make a mark at the bottom and drill along it. I had to work with wheels that are mounted on screws in 4 places. I first laid the wheels on the back surface of the bottom of the box in order to outline the holes that I had to drill next.

When the holes were made, I immediately strengthened the wheels by screwing screws into the holes along the guides I had made. The fasteners should be screwed in quite tightly so that the wheels do not become loose over time, because from time to time you will roll out the box and roll it back. I used the same technology with all four wheels that I had to install.
If you still care about the appearance of the box, you can first make markings using a pencil and ruler. Then the wheels will be located at the same distance from the edges of the box. They should not be placed too close to the edges, as the wood can be accidentally damaged, and in some cases it will even break off. Then you will have to fork out for additional drawers, which is not part of the concept of creating budget storage space.
Drawing up a design project
Before work, you need to prepare a drawing of a floating bed to make yourself.
First, you need to decide on the dimensions of the furniture being created, select the necessary material, decide which parts will be included in the design, and clearly imagine the appearance of the future product. The first stage is to view photos of finished models and select the appropriate option
Attention should be paid to the materials from which the furniture is made, dimensions, and additional elements used for decoration. To determine the dimensions of an unusual design, you need to make accurate measurements of the room in which the bed will be installed
Then you need to choose a mattress, the dimensions of which will also determine the design of furniture with the levitation effect.
After determining the width and length, the issue of the dimensions of the support is resolved. It is better to look at the furniture from the greatest distance and make a sketch. Only then can you finally choose the size of the support and decide how much smaller it should be relative to the main part of the structure. Please note that the support should not be narrow, otherwise the bed will sway.
There are model options that do not require support. In this case, the flying structure has a thick headboard and an L-shaped steel pipe, a short section of which is firmly fixed to the wall. The frame is made strong enough not to wobble or break even when sitting on the edge of the bed. It is possible to manufacture an intermediate version with a smaller support made of high-strength transparent, almost invisible material.
Then the configuration and size of the headboard is selected, which is one of the main parts of the structure and determines the design of the bed. The color of the product and decorative elements are considered. Next, a diagram of the floating bed is drawn up, structural elements, connections, and parts used for reinforcement are worked out. During the work process, you need to check the results more often, measure parts several times in order to eliminate possible errors at the initial stage, and not at the end of manufacturing the product.
The drawing is drawn up both for the entire structure and for the parts. For precise manufacturing, not one, but several projections are performed. Once you have completed drawing the plan, you can begin purchasing materials and tools.

When decorating your home, you shouldn’t forget about what’s outside. Let's start with the entrance area. From concrete blocks and a couple of wooden slats you can make a cute and comfortable table where flowers, a watering can, a lantern or anything else will live.
By the way, you can make various benches from concrete blocks, decorate flower beds, build a barbecue, and even make flower pots. It all depends on your imagination.
You can also make stylish ottomans and armchairs with your own hands. You need old tires, liquid nails and thick rope. The finished structure can be painted in any color. These ottomans are suitable for both indoors and outdoors, because they don’t mind rain.
Boxes or pallets made of wood can serve as the basis for a garden cabinet. Here you can store various flower accessories, pots, watering cans and other tools. And if you leave a flat work surface on top, you can make something or replant flowers.
What could be unusual in a flower pot? It would seem - nothing. However, here you can surprise everyone. Plant succulents in a birdcage. When they grow, it will be very beautiful. And instead of a regular hanging pot, you can use an old chandelier.
An ordinary children's inflatable pool can be used as a sofa. Just put a blanket or blanket inside and cover the sides with pillows.
It’s so beautiful to use candles in the garden, but they are constantly blown out by the wind. To prevent this from happening, you can make candlesticks from empty tin cans or ordinary glass ones. You can decorate everything with stones or ribbons if desired.
These, of course, are not all ideas for home and garden, only a small part of what you can do with your own hands. You just need to not be afraid to experiment and fill your home with cute and beautiful things.

Choosing a bed design
This moment is one of the most difficult. There are many options, photographs of which can be found on the Internet.
Determining the most suitable one for yourself means not just choosing the most attractive one, but also finding a bed that making your own will not be an impossible task. At the same time, the choice of color, decorative finish, outline of the headboard and other elements of the product that are not related to the design can be almost unlimited and determined only by the personal preferences of the craftsman or the people for whom the bed is intended.
It is not customary to give any advice in this regard, but you can pay attention to some additional elements that decorate the bed and create a special, specific look for it. We are talking about installing lighting under the support frame
A floating bed with lighting significantly changes the interior of the bedroom, placing emphasis on that part of the furniture that traditionally remains in the background. The light spot enhances the effect of floating in the air, creating a somewhat futuristic, fantastic environment.

Robot bed
What you're pictured here is an autonomous robot bed, or more accurately, a self-driving electric car. Sure, the bed may not look like a regular car, but it is essentially a unique vehicle on the scale of a bedroom. The bed is capable of moving at a sustained power of 8 horsepower and reaching a peak of 25 horsepower for a limited time. The current top speed is unknown, but it is undoubtedly faster than any bed. The bed is designed to hold up to a ton and is built around a wooden torsion box frame.
The outer rollers have springs to absorb shock and accommodate uneven surfaces. The two drive wheels are located centrally under the bed. With this arrangement of wheels, the bed can rotate. This allows you to move quite competently in cramped conditions. The motors are connected to the drive wheels using a 20:1 gearbox. The gearbox is basically a giant worm drive mechanism that reduces the bed's motion to room-friendly speeds. The entire system is controlled by Arduino Mega, a microcontroller of the Atmega family. This is a microprocessor with memory and various peripheral devices running on a single chip. That is, essentially a microcomputer capable of performing simple tasks. In this case, it reads 12 ultrasonic sensors and interacts with Alltrax motor controllers.
The logic is simple. It's basically picking a random direction to go, checking to see if there's anything very close in that direction, and then continuing to move. If something gets in the way, it randomly chooses another direction and tries again. There are four safety bumpers that are connected to the Arduino using an interrupt system. If you hit them, the bed immediately stops moving. From the outside it may seem that the bed is endowed with artificial intelligence.
Of course, no one will probably ever build such a robot bed.
This project uses a ton of expensive parts and takes forever to make, which is largely cost prohibitive and doesn't make sense to many very rational people. But there is such a thing, there are instructions and step-by-step photos on how to do it, so... maybe... someday.
