The convenience and great functionality of a sofa bed makes it one of the most popular pieces of upholstered furniture. Most large and small manufacturers from different countries have more than two dozen sofa names in their catalogs. Such a world-famous company as Ikea did not stand aside. We will talk about the sofa beds produced by this brand in this article.
Advantages and disadvantages
The functionality of sofa beds is a definite advantage. But this is not the only positive quality. IKEA produces sofa beds using natural materials - wood, cotton, natural fillings.
Ikea Ivan bed is a multifunctional type of furniture.
Designers have also developed elegant models. IKEA is famous for its thoughtful range of colors that are used in the production of furniture. It is difficult to find flashy colors and catchy curves in catalogs. But all the simple sofas, made in the Art Nouveau style, will fit well into any interior.
These are high-quality and reliable products from a well-known manufacturer all over the world.
IKEA's principle is to create products from renewable resources. And this can also be a disadvantage, because natural wood from ecologically clean regions is a temptation for woodworms, and natural upholstery is more prone to stains. This must be taken into account and the piece of furniture must be well cared for.
Many have built-in storage for bedding.
Although the furniture is durable, it is designed for occasional use rather than daily use. This also needs to be taken into account.
Frequently unfolding the sofa can cause it to break.
Stuva Series
One of the popular IKEA furniture series, which features a modular structure. Models from the Stuva series grow with the child, adapting not only to the dimensions of the room, but also to age needs.
In the future, a practical changing table will turn into a comfortable table for children's games, and as the child grows up, into a desk.
Models from the Stuva series can be perfectly combined with each other, creating a holistic design for the nursery. In addition, the furnishings can be supplemented with separate modules that can be easily integrated into the interior, improving the functionality of the room.
Among the traditional items of Stuv we can highlight:
- chests of drawers Foglia and Fritids,
- wardrobes and wardrobes Foglia and Fritids,
- modules for toys Foglia and Fritids.
In addition to single-function pieces of furniture, the collection includes complex combinations for storing clothes and clothes from Foglia and Fritids, a table with a compartment for Fritids toys, a loft bed from Foglia and Fritids and other practical and modern solutions.
Prices are democratic and affordable. The cost of chests of drawers is up to 7 thousand rubles, and a transforming bed can be purchased for 26 thousand.
The great advantage of this collection is that from individual modules you can assemble completely different compositions that are suitable for any layout and size of a children's room.

Types of sofa beds from IKEA
The main difference between sofa beds is their folding mechanism.
Gas lift is the most convenient mechanism to use.
There are four main types of sofas:
- Eurobook;
- With rotating mechanism;
- Roll-out;
- Combined.
The shape of the furniture is also important - the sofa can be straight or angular. The placement of the product in the room depends on this and its size.
Separately, it should be recalled that there are modular sofa beds that can turn into a comfortable bed, a sofa, several armchairs and a pouf, depending on the user’s wishes.
You need to know the specifics of your choice to make your purchase successful.
Interior
IKEA furniture in a children's interior will look more attractive if parents do not just purchase the same type of model, but try to form a combination of various furniture products. For example, you can make several items completely different in size and color.
Due to their dissimilarity, they can be more accentuated things in the room. Having bought a white wardrobe from IKEA, you can diversify it with a regular metal bed, and instead of a table from IKEA, you can choose the same option, but from a different manufacturer.
Furniture from IKEA plus antique furniture items also seems to be a very beautiful combination.
Popular models
The sofa bed at IKEA occupies a special place in the catalogs. The variety of models makes it difficult to choose, but there is a list of the most popular models:
- Three-seater sofa ASARUM;
- Corner sofa with chaise longue;
- Extensible sofa Levus.
But these are not all interesting, practical and convenient models. You should review the entire catalog to make the right choice.
Children's bed
The main element of a bedroom's furnishings is the bed. In the IKEA furniture catalog you can find various beds. Their size and modification depend on the age of the child.
For newborns, the catalog presents playpen beds with closed and open sides, removable guards and drawers for storing things under the bed of the crib.
The crib kit includes a mattress and a water-repellent mattress cover. The mattress is made of orthopedic polyurethane foam, which reliably supports the baby’s spine and does not accumulate excess moisture. Two covers are placed on top of the mattress. The top mattress cover can be washed in a washing machine at 60 degrees.And photos of IKEA children's furniture often include a safe canopy. It can be purchased at the store. The peculiarity of the canopy is that it is not mounted on a tripod, but directly on the wall and is made from recycled polyester, safe for children and the environment.
A baby can sleep in a bed with sides up to 3 years old. Upon reaching this age, the bed must be replaced with a more adult one. The Ikea catalog presents many beds of different designs:
- Classic single beds;
- Pull out beds. They can be moved apart as the child grows. You can sleep on it until adolescence;
- Loft beds. The bed is located on the second tier of the structure, and under it, at your request, a work desk, sofa or play corner;
- Ikea bunk beds.
What to consider when choosing
The main question is what size should the sofa bed be? And if you choose a corner model, think about where it will stand, because this piece of furniture can be right- or left-handed.
Its comfort and functionality depend on how well you can choose a sofa bed.
Most models have niches for bed linen. This is not a big deal if you are buying furniture for an office, but if you need an IKEA sofa bed to save space in a small room, it is better to pay attention to these models.
Pay attention to the material of manufacture.
Sofa beds with mattresses are designed to be reclined more frequently. Their mattress acts as a shock absorber. These sofas do not have gaps between the sections, so sleeping on them is more comfortable.
Choose a folding mechanism.

In 2022, we bought a Vilasund sofa bed from IKEA. It’s impossible to sit on it, you gradually slide down a slide. The mattress slides down a little and so do you. This is an obvious defect. It turns out that we weren’t the only ones unlucky. It’s a pity that we spent 48,000.

Do not under any circumstances buy this sofa. Yes, comfortable, yes, cute. But that smell of phenol! We really regret that we bought it. We are thinking about returning.

God, don't take this couch. It costs so much money, but the disappointment is huge. It folds out into a large bed, with two mattresses for it and they are not secured by anything. You just wake up at night because you have fallen into a hole, the mattresses have moved apart. No one can sleep, neither children nor adults. It can only be used in assembled form, then why do you need a dismountable mechanism?

We bought a sofa at IKEA Friheten - there was a monstrous smell of phenol from the chipboard of the sofa. This is separation and murder of Russians. We will take IKEA to court and return the sofa. It’s a disgrace and does not comply with any environmental standards. Killer sofas from IKEA

A year ago I ordered a VILASUND sofa from IKEA, they brought it from Yekaterinburg to Chelyabinsk, with delivery it cost 53,474 rubles. I have never seen a more terrible sofa in my life - it’s impossible to sit, you roll off it onto the floor, it unfolds very “fildepers”, i.e. . requires a lot of action, the matting upholstery is disgusting, the cats immediately began to tear at the ugly fabric, in general, there is no way to lie down or sleep. This is money thrown away!

We bought furniture for children for their updated rooms after renovation. Teenage children. ALL the furniture in their rooms is from Ikea. Have been using it for three years. Everything is in perfect condition. In each room there is a desk, chairs, a bed, a three-door wardrobe, a chest of drawers, bedside tables, cabinets, hanging shelves, and a shelving unit in one room. Design - Provence or shabby stylization. The furniture is mostly inexpensive, even by Ikea standards. Beds, for example, are metal. But after the renovation, we couldn’t afford anything expensive. We got by with this and are very pleased. We bought a sofa for the living room. The sofa folds out. It’s already two years old, the mechanism and frame are very good, everything works perfectly, but the upholstery is coming apart at the seams, and in the most visible places. But the good thing about furniture from Ikea, like dishes for example, is that if it gets damaged you can replace it without regret. That's what I'm going to do with the sofa. We bought it during a sale at a very good price.

We bought a monsad for our dacha, a terrible sofa! After about a year of use, the whole thing became warped, the retractable part became 5 centimeters higher, and the mechanism itself was constantly moving apart. The storage compartment mechanism also broke and became bent. The upholstery is fine). At the same time, they used it only on weekends and not every time; it was in the guest bedroom.

About half a year ago we finally decided to buy a sofa, because the old one was completely broken. In the IKEA catalog I saw a small sofa, very cute and very cheap (2000 thousand rubles). Let's go to the store, we live in Yekaterinburg. Bought. When they put the house up, it no longer seemed so beautiful to me.
Its disadvantages: When you sit, the sofa moves forward little by little, eventually it becomes impossible to sit at all, you almost begin to fall off it, you have to constantly adjust it. Over the past six months, the seat has already sagged. Hooks form on it very easily.
The sofa folds out. And here, too, not everything is fine. There is no soft lining in the head area; you lie as if on concrete. The soft starts only on the torso. Although, according to their technology (as depicted in the catalog), you need to go to bed the other way around, putting the pillow at your feet, which is not at all comfortable. And then the sofa consists of connected pillows; when unfolded, the connections between the pillows are slowly torn, now they are already half torn.
In general, I'm very dissatisfied. The sofa already looks old, it’s all askew, it constantly needs to be adjusted, and it’s not very comfortable to sit on. But it’s not possible to sleep at all.

Everything in Ikea looks beautiful, but the quality is terrible! We have already changed the slatted bottom on the bed, and the new one, which is more durable in appearance and more expensive in price, quickly became unusable again - the slats are breaking. My husband and I don’t weigh very much (55 + 80 kg), no one jumps on the bed. One of the rails on the children's bed also broke. Their computer desk also peeled off very quickly. It’s unclear who everything is intended for...

Four months ago we bought a Monstad sofa from Ikea in Rostov-on-Don. We bought the Monstad sofa three months ago; it was used unfolded for guests on New Year's holidays, and then it broke. A board with a 20 mm groove cut in the center broke. The entire board is 60 mm high, the load on the upper part 20 mm above the cut is a very weak point, why use a 60 mm board if the load-bearing part is 20 mm wide and 40 mm wide.
The next day after the request, a technical specialist arrived and said that they would call us back within 5 days and inform us of the solution. After 5 days no one called back. After my three phone calls, Ikea specialists called back on the 9th day and reported that the breakdown of the sofa, namely the longitudinal beam, occurred due to its external influence, i.e. operation, i.e. it couldn’t be messed up??? Ikea does not want to admit that the design is not finalized, and in this broken place it is not structurally correct. My hands are in the right place, so I’ll do everything myself, strengthen the structure and it will be even better. I told my wife what had to be done right away, but she believed in Ikea, it seemed like a reputable company, but alas.
P.S. I did the repair myself, but imagine my surprise when the 4x35 wood screws, when fully screwed into the 40 mm board, turned in the hole. I had to not tighten the screws too much so as not to break the thread in the hole. And where are the hard types of wood from which the sofa is supposedly made, at least in this place they put pine, not birch. Yes, it's sad.

Advantages: comfortable model, roomy corner.
Disadvantages: weak fastenings, defective
I don’t know if Monstad sofas are sold in Ikea now. I hope they are discontinued.
So, we needed a sofa with a sleeper from a trusted manufacturer. We went to Ikea and found Monstad there. It cost about 20 thousand rubles. Not very much for a corner, average in terms of hardness. In general, we bought it.
They brought it the next day, we assembled it ourselves. In principle, the two of us managed to do it together in a couple of hours; the instructions were written as if for children.
But…
On the very first night, the springs in the corner part began to fly off. One, two, three... We could barely wait for the morning. And even when no one was sitting on the sofa, from under the bottom everything could be heard “ding”, “ding”. There are plastic fasteners, so they broke one after another.
I called customer service. At first we agreed that they would replace the corner part for us. But half an hour later the manager called back and offered to return the sofa, because their entire batch turned out to be defective.
So, the Monstad sofa from Ikea went back, and we bought another one, but not from Ikea...

Pros: Looks very decent for its 24,000.
Disadvantages: Assembly is very poor. According to the Ikea representative, everyone has Friheten.
For the first time disappointed with a product from Ikea! The sofa, when it was delivered and assembled, turned out to be defective - the retractable part jams when unfolding and folding and, instead of “diving” into the box allotted to it, rests against its side. That is, to fold the sofa, you need to press the sides first with one hand, and then with the other. When I called the customer water service, everyone was very polite and promised to send a technician for an inspection. But the master (or rather, the manager, as he proudly corrected me) behaved strangely. He began to assure me that the mechanism simply needed to be developed. And what clings to the sides will become loose during use, and then it will begin to fit! In general, as a favor, I wrote in the conclusion that the sofa needed replacing, but warned that they would bring exactly the same one! I'm waiting in horror.

Pros: large, good box
Disadvantages: upholstery is easily soiled, extremely flimsy, not suitable for cat people, non-removable cover, uncomfortable for sleeping
We purchased a MONSTAD sofa bed in August 2013, over the two years of operation the sofa has endured a lot, but we have also suffered a lot from it.
Firstly, the upholstery imitates unbleached cloth (my husband affectionately calls it canvas). The sofa is equipped with a chaise longue, which can be moved to the right or left. There are also three pillows with removable covers; the cover on the sofa itself is not removable. Under the chaise longue there is a spacious drawer for bedding.
The legs of the sofa are wooden, without wheels, it is impossible to clean the floor under the sofa - the bottom is very low, you need to move it. This is not very convenient, since the sofa is heavy and the legs scratch the painted floor.
The sofa unfolds quite easily, but the mechanism broke down quite quickly and was repaired.
The upholstery feels very nice, but it is inconvenient to care for - it is very soiled, and stains remain even from water. There is a small child in our house, so after less than three years of use, the sofa has become unrecognizable. It is impossible to wash it off!
Sleeping on an unfolded sofa is not very comfortable - you can feel the wooden frame everywhere under the foam rubber, so I definitely wouldn’t recommend it as a bed.
In addition, during operation, a significant disadvantage was discovered - very flimsy fastenings of the sofa springs. They fell off after about six months of use. To fix it, they opened up the entire lining of the sofa. But this turned out to be ineffective, since after a year the rest of the fastenings that we had not patched fell off. When the spring is not secured, the sofa sinks and sleeping and sitting on it becomes uncomfortable.
To summarize, I can only recommend the sofa to clean people without children or pets who do not like to eat in front of the TV. Either buy it right away or sew a cover. The sofa is also suitable for entertaining guests, but I do not recommend it as a sofa bed.

Advantages: easy to assemble and disassemble, low price
Disadvantages: stained upholstery, terrible chemical smell
We were looking for a sofa bed. We accidentally saw this sofa in Ikea. There was no intention of taking a corner one, but the price and functionality won us over. The corner of the sofa can be swapped, a large drawer for linen and perhaps that’s all. We bought it a little over a year ago, it cost about 20 thousand rubles, which is quite a bit for such a large and corner one.
How I regret that I took it!!!!! When it was assembled, everything seemed fine, it looked so solid. The first night I simply could not sleep. It smells so strongly of something chemical, and it still smells like this, but not like that strongly and periodically. When we bought it, I was so happy that now I can throw all the bed linen from the chest of drawers into the sofa drawer. But it’s still empty, it’s impossible to store things there because of the smell, you take out a new set from there and it definitely smells for a couple of days. Now about the material. It’s tin! Dust accumulates on it after cleaning. We weren’t home for a week, so when the dust came back there was probably a centimeter. I have a small child, who, of course, gets everything dirty. So, firstly, the material of the sofa sooooo absorbs any droplet, not to mention pencils, paints, cereals, children's snacks. It can't be wiped off with anything. Even with a damp cloth the sofa fades and the stains remain. I just vacuum it with a washing vacuum cleaner. We thought about calling someone to clean it, but we realized that there is no point, tomorrow it will be the same. And now a year later we are thinking about reupholstering. I have not yet found out how much it costs, but something tells me that it is at least half of its cost.
The mechanism that pulls out the extra bed has been jamming for a long time. And between this place and the corner there is such a gap that the husband can stick his hand in there and once again get the remote control, which always falls there (like, in principle, everything that ends up on the sofa )
The pillows are normal, there are 3 of them. Without thinking, I washed the covers from them, so now the colors are 3 different from the sofa. Sometimes guests sleep on them, they say that they are just right, not soft, not hard.
In general, I don’t recommend the sofa, well, if only for the living room, without the intention of sleeping on it.
I’m giving a star in addition to the necessary one only because you can change the angle. If we don’t get rid of it after the renovation, we’ll change the angle and put it on the opposite wall; without this function we would have to leave it in the same place.

Color
The main driver in IKEA children's furniture products are light shades. Light snow, milky fairy tale, ivory color, shiny gold - this is what the furniture company attracts its customers with. These colors are very versatile and can suit absolutely any style.
In addition, they will look great in both a boy’s and a girl’s room. If a light tone seems somewhat banal, you can choose wooden modules with a more contrasting shade.
