Which method of knitting a bedspread should you choose?

There are several different knitting methods:

  • in one piece;
  • from square motifs;
  • from triangular motifs;
  • stripes and zigzags;
  • from the center, etc.

We knit with a single fabric - this is the longest and most difficult method in our opinion. An adult blanket is knitted in a large size, for example 1.5 * 2 m, or even more. At first it will be easy for you to move from place to place with this knitting, but the larger it gets, the more difficult it will be to take your work with you on the road. What if you need to knit from different balls? In addition to the product, you will also have to carry a large supply of threads. So knitting in a single piece is acceptable if you do not plan to knit outside the home.

How much easier it is to knit with motifs. Typically, the motif for a bedspread does not exceed 10-20 cm in length/width. It is convenient to take this work with you and knit it on the road, in a clinic, on the subway, while waiting for a child to return from the section and on a walk. But the motto of a knitter is to knit every free minute of time. In addition, you can use leftovers from different glomeruli.

The advantages of knitting from motifs are obvious. Although there are a couple of small but significant disadvantages - the threads will have to be constantly cut off and ultimately the motifs will have to be sewn into a single fabric.

As you can see, there is no perfect method for knitting a blanket.

Look for the patterns you like, buy threads for them and knit the biggest and most beautiful blanket. It will decorate your home, and for you it will become a symbol of labor and patience, because not everyone is able to crochet such a large thing - a bedspread!

Crochet baby blanket. Beautiful pattern

For a size of 70 by 90 cm you will need 400 g of baby wool or acrylic, hook number 6. Knitted in two threads.
The pattern is designed for an even number of loops. If you need to change the size, you can simply increase the number of loops, but it should be a multiple of two.

At the beginning of knitting, we pull out the threads from the middle of two balls:

  • We cast on a chain of air loops equal to 75 cm.
  • we make 1 chain stitch (CH) for lifting, then knit with single crochets (SC), 2 chain stitches, turn the knitting. The length will change, since the stitches take up more space than chain stitches.
  • we pass 1 loop, in the 2nd we knit RLS, VP and through one loop RLS. We alternate RLS and VP, which are located above the skipped loop of the previous row. The last loop is knitted with sc, then 2 ch for lifting and turning the product.

Row 4 and all the following: RLS and VP offset by 1 loop.

The pattern will appear after 10 cm. We complete the product with a sc in each column and in each air loop.

The knitting pattern gives a dense, but light and voluminous fabric.

Plaid of squares

Performed in two stages:

  • individual motifs are knitted together;
  • the squares are assembled into a single product.

For knitting, knitting needles or a crochet hook are used. There are no restrictions here; it all depends on the skill and desire of the craftswoman and on the idea of the product.

Depending on the intended size, the size of the elements is selected and their number is determined. The squares can be any size.

Products that combine square fragments of different sizes have an original look. A stylish bedspread will be made from openwork elements. If you lay it on a contrasting fabric, it will create a bright accent in the bedroom. From identical figures you can create unusual compositions using color.

For crocheting, the “Granny Square” pattern is most suitable. More experienced craftswomen can try the “Spanish square” or the Bavarian pattern. Knitting patterns can be found on the Internet, where there are a great many of them.

Beginner knitters can use regular double crochet stitch. A part made using this technique will hold its shape well.

For knitting needles, various options for making motifs are recommended

  • with the same pattern;
  • with different volumetric patterns;
  • with a combination of colors;
  • in one color;
  • with jacquard pattern;
  • with a double-sided pattern.

Each square is made separately, then stitched into a single fabric. Various combinations of colors and patterns are possible. The unifying elements will be the binding of the entire blanket.

Assembling motifs

All fragments are connected to each other. They can either be crocheted or knitted, or sewn. The best way is to connect the finished parts along the short side, and then knit the resulting strips.

Processing the edge of the product

If the blanket is knitted from squares, the best way to finish the edge is by binding. It can be done with crochet or knitting needles with a width of 3 to 5 cm, depending on the size of the finished blanket.

Note! With a large size of the product, knitting requires skill and is more labor-intensive.

In addition to simple tying along the edge, you can knit pompoms, scallops or an openwork border.

Entirely knitted blanket

To knit such a blanket you will need circular knitting needles with a long fishing line, the longer the better.

It should be taken into account that there will be a large number of loops and with each new row connected, the weight of the product will increase. When starting work, take care of a place where you can sit comfortably, be able to turn, and fold the canvas.

Decide on the design of the product. This can be a combination of smooth and embossed patterns, solid stocking knitting, knitted braids, a triangular combination of patterns.

A whole knitted blanket begins by knitting the edge. For it, dense types of patterns are chosen - pearl, putanka, rice.

Description of small pearl pattern:

  1. Row 1: knit 1, purl 1 - repeat until the end of the row;
  2. 2nd row: above the purl - knit, above the front - purl.

You don’t have to look at the knitting pattern, but use the following guide: if the knitting needles are knitted, they are knitted purlwise and vice versa.

Proper care of the case

When washing upholstery covers, do not use harsh detergents such as bleach. It is recommended to dry the bedspread naturally in the fresh air.

Modern blankets are distinguished by voluminous patterns.

It is better not to subject a knitted cape to mechanical stress, so hand washing is preferable. Avoid washing at hot temperatures as the product may feel matted or shrink.

A cover or bedspread is a fairly cheap way to protect the upholstery of upholstered furniture, and a hand-crocheted sofa cover will enliven the interior and give it uniqueness.

Large “pearls” are knitted according to the pattern

  • Row 1: knit 1, purl 1 - repeat until the end of the row;
  • 2nd row: according to the picture;
  • Row 3: purl 1, knit 1;
  • 4th row: according to the picture.

Before knitting the main pattern, loops are left on each edge of the blanket for the edges. Ideally, the width of the edge is equal around the perimeter of the entire product. When finishing knitting the fabric, do not forget to knit the edge, just like at the beginning of the work.

Feature of a knitted cape

If you are fond of needlework, then you can try knitting a sofa cover. This is a rather labor-intensive process that will require quite a lot of time, but at the same time it is exciting and interesting, and the result will justify all the means.

Now the fashion for hand-knitted decoration items is returning.

A knitted cover will be a noticeable decorative element in the interior of your room. It will give a standard factory sofa the comfort of home and make it more cozy.

A more harmonious look will be if the entire set of upholstered furniture is covered with covers, and not just one sofa.

In the style of patchwork knitting

  1. Any yarn and comfortable knitting needles will do. You can use any leftover yarn. This method allows you not to bother selecting threads by color and thickness.
  2. Thick knitting needles will add volume, the work will progress faster, even if the threads are much thinner than those expected for this number of knitting needles.
  3. We choose garter stitch and knit only with knit stitches - the simplest, most popular and warmest version of knitting.
  4. Cast on 10 loops. Knit the first row.
  5. We knit until the width of the cast-on loops matches the height of the connected rows. This will be the central element, square in shape. Gradually, rectangles will be attached to it.
  6. We tie another square to it, but take a thread of a different color. When introducing new threads of different thicknesses, we focus on the first motif - if the thread is thick, we knit fewer rows. With this knitting method, the guideline is the size of the element, and not the number of rows.
  7. You will get a rectangle with an open short side.
  8. We re-slip the knitted loops of the short side onto a pin or small spare knitting needles. We cast on new loops from any long side equal in length to two squares. The last stitch of the row will always be the first stitch for the new piece.
  9. Each time we strive to form a square. When closing the rows, do not tighten the thread too much, but do not loosen it too much either.
  10. We complete the required number of squares.
  11. To connect motifs, use yarn of the same color. First, the motifs are connected along the short side. It turns out to be a long narrow strip. Along the long side, loops are cast on knitting needles with fishing line and the motifs are connected.
  12. If this method seems difficult, you can use a hook to connect the strips.

What you need for knitting

A blanket of flowers is crocheted from leftovers and new yarn, combining shades in one color scheme. Those who like bright colors for the cores can choose a sunny color. Add contrasting shades to the “flowerbed”.

From leftover yarn you can knit a cozy and beautiful blanket that will warm you up on winter evenings.

Some useful tips:

  • Craftswomen try to use all available useless balls, leftover yarn from large knitted items.
  • For beginners, it is better to use threads of medium thickness that are not too fluffy for hook number 3 or 4.
  • A hook that is too thick makes it difficult to learn needlework; the blunt tip is difficult to fit into the base, and the beard catches on the yarn overs.
  • The amount of yarn depends on the size and density of the product.

To assemble a blanket, you need to prepare scissors and needles with a large eye (it is better to choose ones with a blunt tip, used for assembling coarse knitwear).

For reference. To prevent the blanket from seeming tasteless and tacky, you should not combine more than 5 colors. Blankets in the same color scheme with a white or cream bud core look harmonious.

Knitting by hand

Very interesting options are obtained from the unusual yarn “Alize Puffy” - a soft plush thread with loops. By passing the loops with your hands, through each other, according to the principle of braiding, you can get a very delicate blanket.

For a small blanket with a side of 1 m, you will need about 5 skeins. The activity is not difficult, if you use your imagination, you can come up with various weaving options, and the process will bring tactile and aesthetic delight.

Why do you need a sofa cover?

A blanket on the sofa will help protect the upholstery not only from wear, but also from mechanical damage or accidental dirt. It will be simply irreplaceable if you have small children or pets in your home. In addition, it is much easier to wash it than to clean the upholstery of the sofa.

A sofa cover is not just beautiful, but also practical.

In addition to protection, the cover on the sofa also serves an aesthetic function. This is a decorative decoration that will attract the eyes of guests and give your decor an original and unique look.

Old furniture can be updated with a cover.

If your upholstered furniture is already old or you are simply tired of it, or you have renovated the room, but the upholstery of the sofa and armchairs does not really harmonize with the new interior, and there is no money for new furniture, then a cover will help solve these problems.

Simple and beautiful

If your skills are limited to knowing only the knit stitch, don’t despair.

Take several colored balls and knit stockinette stitch. In this way, the skill of casting on loops will be practiced, and the finished product will bring positive emotions. For this method of creating a warm miracle, shades from dark to light are suitable; they will form a fashionable color game - ombre.

Knitting a blanket is a long and monotonous task. Use combinations of multi-colored threads, different patterns and be patient - the result is worth it.

The final stage is decoration

Soft, cozy and incredibly beautiful, this crocheted bedspread will be the perfect warm refuge for you to relax after a working day.

Here, show all your imagination and bring all your ideas to life. This, of course, can be done by experienced craftswomen. Beginning needlewomen who are not confident in their use of knitting tools can “disguise” their creation by choosing “grass” or boucle yarn for work, thereby brightening up all the unevenness and imperfections in the finished product. An original item can be created from thick yarn with a loosened knitting, and they knit quite quickly.

Capes made from multi-colored threads look great. Take one color as a basis, choosing halftones for it. The main product can be trimmed with fringe, tassels, a jagged edge, a voluminous canvas - there are many options.

Whatever model you choose, it will perfectly refresh your interior and bring a feeling of real home comfort.
