A terrace differs from a veranda in that the veranda always has a roof. And both extensions usually have a common wall with the house. Our decor is suitable for both options. We took as a basis the decor of a bright terrace with our own hands in the shabby chic style.
The terrace is a cozy open space with comfortable chairs, armchairs, couches or sofas. Sometimes it smoothly turns into a porch. The most beautiful style used in decorating a terrace with your own hands is romantic shabby chic. Use old wooden (table, chairs, stools, benches, bookcases, shelves, etc.) and metal (buckets, watering cans, old beds, candlesticks, lanterns) to decorate the terrace. If you don't have it, you can buy them and artificially age them.
This style is most often represented in light colors: white, light blue, pink, pastel colors. It’s good if the color of the wall on which the terrace faces is white – this is an ideal option. If not, then there is always a way out: drape the wall with white tulle or any light-colored fabric. A large number of flowers are welcome (baskets made of straw, flowerpots, buckets, pots, arches, climbing plants). Any bushes growing nearby (roses, lilacs) will complement the decoration. All old wooden furniture suitable for the terrace must be painted with white acrylic paint yourself.
If you are lucky enough to have wicker furniture, paint it all white. Paired with white or light colored pillows, this will look great. Metal furniture (bed, couch) is painted only white - there are no options here. A sofa swing looks original on the terrace (but requires a lot of space). The sofa can be wicker or wooden.
To organize a terrace with your own hands, you will need everything that is usually stored in attics and in old chests: old stools, an armchair with shabby armrests, a kerosene lamp, a lantern, candlesticks, and so on. Often we throw away old things as unnecessary trash - and this is wrong. With a little paint and imagination, any ugly product can be turned into something exclusive.
Don't forget about beautiful light textiles. As you know, you can never have too many pillows, and if they are all different, one is not like the other! This is where there is room for imagination. Light crocheted lace is also welcome: napkins, tablecloths, pillow trim.
Verandas with a place for drinking tea
Eating and drinking outdoors feels completely different than indoors. So why not create a corner on your veranda where you can sit in a comfortable chair at a small table and turn an ordinary meal into a summer picnic.
On not particularly hot days, when going out for tea, you can wrap yourself in a blanket. This option can also be seen in many cafes with terraces, where people prefer to wrap themselves in a blanket outside rather than sit in a warm room.
Curtains
You can use curtains for open verandas only if the roof overhang is very long - more than half a meter. Then summer showers will not stain them too much. In essence, a veranda is a closed terrace made of the same materials as the main building.
