Lighting fixtures on a suspended ceiling will create not only a beautiful effect. They will give an attractive look to the material used for decoration. But they will also perform a practical role - to illuminate the space of this relaxation room. A bedroom is a place for sleeping and it has its own special requirements for lighting.
People spend a significant part of their lives in the bedroom. Therefore, such a pastime should be as comfortable as possible.
Lighting items
There are tons of options for lighting your bedroom using different lighting items. The most popular and more suitable for the bedroom:
- chandelier;
- Spotlights;
- floor lamp;
- sconce;
- LED Strip Light;
- bedside lamps;
- LED lamps and panels.
Depending on the size of the bedroom, its style and design, as well as the design of the ceiling, lighting items are selected. Each type of lighting requires special placement rules and performs a specific function.
Very often, several lighting items of different types are used, the main thing is that they are combined with each other and are in the same stylistic direction.
How to choose LED lamps
Before purchasing spotlights, you need to consider several important criteria that help you purchase quality products. They are as follows:
- Particular attention must be paid to the matrix. It should operate from an electrical voltage of 220 W. 12 volt models require additional installation of special power supplies. They help distribute the electrical flow evenly to all light points;
- When purchasing, it is recommended to take into account the strength of the luminous flux. Models with a cool spectrum shine much brighter, but produce light with a blue-green tint. Professional designers recommend choosing spotlights with warm light that study yellow-red rays;
- Consider the warranty period. On average, one spotlight can last from 1 to 6 years. Performance qualities directly depend on power fluctuations and proper installation of spots.
Lighting in a suspended ceiling
Stretch ceilings in the bedroom with lighting are very popular and can be achieved using various lighting fixtures. The only thing is that you should not use powerful halogen lamps, it is better to choose:
- halogen lamps with a power of up to 35 W and that the lighting device has an aluminum reflection, so that some of the light is not transmitted and no areolas appear;
- energy-saving lamps - practically do not heat up, which is very good for a stretch ceiling, but they require special disposal in case of burnout. Also, with frequent use, the light becomes scattered and flickering occurs; their service life is significantly shorter than that of LED lamps;
- LED lamps are considered the most durable and high-quality and at the same time not very energy-consuming compared to others. During operation, they practically do not heat up and serve for a long time.
Spot layouts
The main lighting areas must be equipped with a sufficient number of lamps.
- Spots at the head of the bed will not provide enough light for reading. For this purpose, it is better to install sconces or floor lamps. At the same time, soft lighting will help create a romantic atmosphere.
- Wardrobe must also have high-quality lighting. Harsh daylight will mercilessly reveal all the mistakes: small folds, pills, stains, etc. It is better if you can notice these shortcomings before you leave the house.
- For women, the area where makeup is applied . This could be a dressing table, trellis, etc. The light should fall evenly, softly, without shadows.
With chandelier
The chandelier is usually located in the center of the ceiling. However, in some projects it is permissible to have two chandeliers on long holders, which replace sconces and floor lamps. If the room is elongated or has a curved shape, then it makes sense to make two zones, the center of which will again be the chandelier.
In the classic version, spots are placed symmetrically around the central element.
The most common schemes:
- Square . The spots are located along the perimeter of the ceiling at an equidistant distance from each other.
- Oval . The lamps form an oval around the chandelier.
- Two arcs . Two symmetrical lines in the form of an arc are formed around the central element.
- Parallel . Two parallel lines. It is often used when it is necessary to emphasize the decorative insert above the bed, which smoothly flows onto the ceiling.
- Corners . Corners are formed in two or four corners. Each of 3-5 spots.
- Snake or wave . It combines two chandeliers well in a large room and interestingly plays off one central lamp in an elongated bedroom.
Without chandelier
You can leave the option with spotlights without a chandelier. To do this, you need to calculate the required amount of light so that the room is fully illuminated.

- Matrix . The ceiling is drawn into cells, like in a school notebook. Spots are located at the intersections of lines.
- Spiral . The line twists into a spiral. In this case, a round, oval shape or the golden ratio formula can be used.
- Two arcs in the corner . One of the corners is formed by two parallel rounded lines.
- Diamonds . The spots form diamonds located along the center along the entire length of the ceiling.
- Starry sky . The matrix is located behind the film and is combined with the image printed on the canvas. LEDs and optical fiber are used.
With all this, it is not forbidden to combine lamps with LED strips.
Nuances of lighting in a small bedroom
Thoughtful and competent placement of lighting fixtures in a small bedroom can perfectly emphasize the style of the room and even visually expand its space. To ensure proper placement of lighting fixtures, it is worth considering the following aspects:
- You should not use only one piece of lighting;
- Illuminated mirrors in the bedroom are an excellent solution for a small area and it is advisable to place them opposite the window;
- You should not decorate the windows with heavy curtains, this will allow natural light to enter the room in a minimal amount;
- an excellent solution for a small bedroom - large, but open-type lamps;
- It is best to decorate the ceiling and walls in light colors.
Tips for planning lighting
In order to make it as simple and easy as possible to select and correctly position and decorate the lighting in the bedroom, it is worth considering the recommendations of experts:
- For a standard night light in the bedroom, a lamp with a power of 25 W and a neutral color will be enough.
- A wall sconce should be placed carefully, because if the light beam is directed upward, the height of the ceiling will visually increase, and if it is directed downward, it will decrease, but at the same time a romantic atmosphere will be added.
- If there is a central chandelier in the bedroom, but there are side lighting objects, then it is better to choose a 35-40 W lamp and warm light for the chandelier.
- It is best to choose lighting so that the light is warm and as soft as possible, then your eyes will not get tired.
- All lighting fixtures must be proportionally appropriate to the bedroom area.
- The design and material from which the lighting fixtures are made should match the overall style of the bedroom.
- If you place lighting at the bottom of the bed, you will get the effect of the bed “hovering” above the floor, which will look very original.
- Placing diffused light in the bedroom is ideal for older people or those with vision problems.
- When planning lighting, it is worth considering tiers: upper (ceiling), middle (lighting fixtures are placed at a height of approximately 1 m from the floor), lower (lighting at a level below 1 m or floor lighting) tier.
- When combining several different types of lighting items, it is worth considering that they must be combined with each other and create a complete picture.
- All lighting items should be placed so that they do not interfere with movement around the room.
- Decorative lighting should not be bright and should be turned on separately.
- If the bedroom has rather low ceilings, then you should not place a chandelier in it.
Lighting in the bedroom should be carefully selected and placed, adhering to certain rules and nuances. Otherwise, the lighting can ruin the entire interior and style of the bedroom.
You should be especially careful when using LED strips with different colors. It is also worth remembering that there should be as much lighting as possible, but warm and soft, so that it is comfortable to work and relax.
Posting rules
To understand exactly how to position the lamps, the first thing you should do is learn how to do exactly what you shouldn’t do. Experts do not recommend:
- Place lamps less than 20 cm from the walls.
- Leave a distance of less than 30 cm between the spotlights themselves.
- Place light bulbs closer than 15 cm to the seams in the PVC stretch ceiling.
Important! If the prescribed intervals are not observed, the devices will overheat, which will lead to rapid failure. And if located close to the joints, the seams themselves may come apart.
When choosing lighting fixtures, be sure to consider the following factors:
- Room size. The larger it is, the more lamps will be required.
- Ceiling height. The higher you go, the brighter the light needed.
- Characteristics of window openings. Which side do they go on, what dimensions do they have, how many are there.
- Purpose of the premises. In the passage corridor, the importance of bright lighting is much lower than in the kitchen work area.
- Availability of other light sources. Will the spots be on their own or as an addition to the central chandelier?
