How to connect a window and a bed in the bedroom? Is it necessary to combine curtains with a bedspread?

Once upon a time it was customary to make curtains and bedspreads in the same color. Or even from the same fabric. This was considered almost the height of elegance.

But the basis of this tradition is not the special aesthetics of this scheme, but just a small selection of fabrics. These days, when there is so much to choose from, such a design plan is rarely resorted to. In general, all kinds of sets (whether furniture, jewelry, decorative) are not popular now. The exception is kitchen furniture and linen.

There is no need to purchase curtains and bedspreads from the same fabric. This is not even desirable in most cases. Textile monotony looks quite primitive. In addition, it can endow the interior with such a feature as old-fashionedness. If this goal was not set initially, it is better to avoid such associations.

It is also not necessary that the curtains and bedspread match or are close in color. There is no such rule.

However, it is still customary to associate a window with a bed. Not always, but in most cases they resort to this. After all, both zones are textile. And it would be good if they at least did not conflict with each other.

Characteristics of a set of curtains and bedspreads

What is usually included in a set of curtains and bedspreads for a bedroom? This is always one or more curtains, a large blanket for a bed or sofa. The kit may also contain additional elements such as details for decorating curtains (lambrequin or tiebacks, for example), pillowcases for pillows (decorative and regular) and fabric napkins for a bedside table or nightstand to complement and complete the look of the room.

This solution will give the room more atmosphere, comfort and a feeling of care.

Typically, a set of curtains with a bedspread is chosen to match the style of each specific room, so that there is no dissonance between all the main elements of furniture and the bedspread with curtains, because it will look ugly. If the room is made in a classic style, then the set should be selected classic, and not ethnic or any other. For a high-tech room, for example, it is better to choose a set of plain fabrics, without patterns or special relief (smooth materials).

The main thing is to choose these elements wisely so as not to spoil the overall appearance of the room.

Velveteen

Curtains made from this material have the following characteristics:

  • original and elegant;
  • visually increase the height of the room;
  • reliably block the penetration of sunlight;

Perfectly suits the interior of rooms decorated in modern, country, hi-tech and classic styles.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like all other elements of room interior design, a set of curtains with a bedspread has its advantages and disadvantages.

When decorating bedrooms, everyone chooses the style that will allow them to truly relax.

Pros of curtain and bedspread sets:

  1. You can quite easily complement and complete the decoration of the room thanks to decorative elements that match each other.
  2. There is no need to devote time (by the way, this may take several hours) to select separate bedspreads and separate curtains that would match each other.
  3. Beautiful appearance.
  4. Nice decoration for the room.

Disadvantages of curtain and bedspread sets:

  1. May not match the rest of the room (must be selected carefully).
  2. They can fill a room “too much” with one color or pattern if the set, in addition to the bedspread and curtains, included additional decorative elements such as pillowcases, fabric napkins or something else. Such a pile-up of the same color and ornament will look especially bad in a small room.

Baroque

A bedroom decorated in this sophisticated style will require a rich style of all the textiles in the room. Fabric that gives off shine should have drapery and an original pattern.

When decorating a room, the most important thing is not to overdo it with the distribution of accents. The laconic use of decorative elements will create both an elegant and harmonious overall appearance of the composition.

Varieties

Photos of curtains and bedspreads in a bedroom set demonstrate an incredible number of ways to fit a set consisting of curtains and bedspreads into the interior of any room. But what are they, these kits?

To decorate windows and beds, special kits are used that are made in the same style.

The “curtains and bedspread” set for the bedroom is selected according to the design of the room and the general style to which the entire interior is subordinated. There are several styles in which the vast majority of bedspread and curtain sets are made:

  1. Classic. Strict and restrained ornaments, straight lines, usually matte fabric.
  2. Rococo. Usually shiny fabric, screaming of luxury and wealth.
  3. Baroque. It is characterized by a large amount of decor, trim and various small details made to decorate the product. Like Rococo, Baroque style usually uses shiny, flowing fabric.
  4. Vanguard. Creates accents in a room, usually used in a maximum of 2 or 3 colors.

Curtains for a bedroom with a bedspread must be chosen to match the style of the room; it is harmony that contributes to quality relaxation.

How to choose the right one

Before you rush to buy the first set you like, you need to decide on the color scheme that will dominate the bedroom. Usually, furniture and wallpaper are chosen first, and the set is chosen later so that it is one or two shades darker than the wallpaper - this way the room will look like a single whole, and not disjointed blocks of color, which for some unknown reason ended up located in the same room.

There is also a rule - the more drawings on the walls of the room, the less ornament there should be on the curtains and bedspreads so that the room does not seem “heavy”. To do this, having chosen colorful wallpaper, you should choose plain curtains and a bedspread without patterns.

It is believed that overly bright colors excite the nervous system, so it is better to stick to classic or simply pastel colors.

By type of fabric

As mentioned above, a set of bedspreads and curtains should be combined with the style of the room and the colors used in its design. But sometimes you want to diversify the appearance of your living space, and to do this you can use the following methods:

  1. If the interior is made in a classic style, you can choose a set of contrasting color made of jacquard or blackout (tapestry)
  2. A room in an oriental style is perfectly complemented by curtains and a bedspread in a bright or dark color with the same pattern shape as on the wallpaper. It is worth giving preference to dense fabric like jacquard.
  3. If a calm and laconic Scandinavian style was chosen for the interior, then you should continue to adhere to it and choose a not very dark set without patterns of a not too bright color. Here you can opt for velvet or acrylic curtains.
  4. If the “Provence” style was used for the room, characterized by an abundance of floral patterns, then you can refer to the rules for choosing a set of bedspreads and curtains for a room in a classic style, but here it is important to clarify that the fabric should be natural, like linen or cotton.

For children's room

For the room where children live, you need to choose not just a warm blanket that is pleasant to the touch - it should be beautiful and bright, just like the curtains. The best option would be to choose a set depicting characters from the child’s favorite cartoon - now, fortunately, stores provide customers with quite a lot of different models, ranging from classic cars and Disney princesses to the aliens Terry and Corvo from the cartoon “Solar Opposites”.

Choosing what the child himself will like best is the most correct decision, because this way the child will treat things more carefully, because he will like them.

You should always remember the purpose of arranging a children's room or bedroom - relaxation.

For original design

To get an original interior solution, many people are now trying to combine styles and fabrics (bedroom textiles), trying to find the most interesting option. To do this, they usually buy a separate bedspread and curtains separately: they are often of different colors, made of different materials and have completely different patterns. Some (especially born designers) manage to find that very new solution in the design of a room, combining elements that, it would seem, do not fit together at all.

You can try to combine classics with oriental style, classics with baroque or rococo, rococo and oriental style. Some even manage to combine Scandinavian style and hi-tech.

The overall appearance should ultimately resemble a work of art.

The influence of curtain color on room size

For a bedroom, curtains and bedspreads have a strong influence on the visual perception of the room, especially in its volume. Let's look at some points in this regard.

It would be better to also look at the photo:

Selecting curtains by color

  • No one doubts that the complete impression of a room depends on the color scheme. You can expand the seven-meter kitchen visually, as well as hide the extra meters of the large living room. You just have to choose the right color for the curtains.
  • Warm colors ranging from violet-red to yellow create the effect of enlarging and highlighting the window space.
  • Colors belonging to a cold color palette make the object visually distant. This effect can be achieved using curtains with soft green, lavender, blue, or pearl shades.
  • Light colors make a room appear wider, while dark colors make a room appear smaller.

Application in the interior of a set of curtains and bedspreads

The use of such a set in the design of a room, consisting of curtains and a bedspread (other small decorative elements are optionally added) is intended to decorate the room and bring coziness to its atmosphere. Warmer “winter” sets cope with this best.

Light “summer” options usually serve only as decoration and change the design of the room due to the change of season. A bedspread can not only cover your bed during the day - it can be used to decorate a sofa, and in other cases even as a blanket, if the textile from which the bedspread is made is soft enough and pleasant to the touch.

Bedrooms

In the bedroom, as already mentioned, the bedspread has several uses at once: to cover the bed, decorate the sofa and be used as a blanket. In this way, you can quickly decorate a room, regardless of what kind of furniture is there, because now many people, trying to save every square centimeter of free space, refuse to buy beds and choose instead folding sofas that can be kept folded during the day, because so they take up 2-2.5 times less space than when opened.

It makes sense to take care of the practicality of the products, because when purchasing a new product, even an inexpensive one, you want to enjoy the beautiful surroundings longer.

Children's room

For a children's room, a bedspread and curtains are, first of all, another surface on which the characters of your favorite cartoons are depicted. It is for this reason that bedspreads in a children's room are used mainly as decoration of the room rather than as something functional. Curtains, unlike the previous decorative element, have a specific function, but for a child they still remain just a fabric on which their favorite characters are drawn.

The main advantage of ready-made bedroom sets is the presence of a uniform design.

Living room

A set of curtains and bedspreads in the living room most often plays the role of a decorative element, and is not at all considered a functional item. Usually a blanket is thrown over the sofa (to which the set was color-matched) to make the room more comfortable. Curtains that match the upholstery of upholstered furniture and the bedspread complete the composition of the room's interior, creating a feeling of “completeness” and harmony. In this case, during the visit of guests, it is better to keep the curtains completely closed or half-open, so that the similarity of the fabric of the curtains and the bedspread will immediately catch the eye and produce the desired effect on visitors.

Hypoallergenicity is one of the important components of the modern world, because many people are to a certain extent prone to allergic manifestations.

Blackout

A distinctive feature of blackout fabrics is their high density, which allows you to maintain complete darkness in the room even in sunny weather. And this is an extremely necessary quality for curtains placed in a child’s bedroom. This material allows the child not to be distracted by light stimuli during daytime sleep.

Many leading manufacturing companies use these fabrics in the manufacture of roller blinds and Roman blinds, as well as other types of curtains and drapes.

The popularity of the material is explained by the following factors:

  • completely blocks the sun's rays;
  • does not change color even after many years of use;
  • does not cause allergic reactions;
  • lends itself well to draping;
  • has sound and heat insulating properties.

No less important are such qualities of the material as non-flammability - the fabric melts, but does not burn, but fades. At the same time, it does not emit toxic substances.

How to make curtains and bedspread match

The easiest way to combine curtains and bedspreads is, naturally, to buy a ready-made set. However, if the required set is not available or all those presented on the shelves do not suit the interior of the room at all, here are a few rules for beautifully combining bedspreads and curtains:

  1. Color. Curtains should be the same color as the bedspread; shades may differ slightly (by 3 tones maximum).
  2. Drawing. Here it is easier to choose a fabric without a pattern at all or leave a pattern on only one of two products - either on the bedspread or on the curtains.
  3. Material. Both parts of the set must be made of the same material (you can take similar fabrics if you can’t find the same ones).

The bedspread and curtains combine harmoniously with each other, thereby beneficially complementing the overall decor of the room.
Using all the rules and tips given above, you can independently choose a set consisting of a bedspread and curtains that will suit a room made in absolutely any style.

Linen

Linen curtains have a number of undoubted advantages:

  • do not interfere with the flow of fresh air into the apartment;
  • “mute” sunlight;
  • are a clean material from an environmental point of view;
  • do not collect dust on their surface.

The material is used both in the traditional form for curtains and in the manufacture of roller blinds, Roman blinds, or vertical blinds.

Preparing for sewing

Sewing a bedspread is not the most difficult task if you take your time and proceed consistently. First, you should make a pattern on a reduced scale. This step will allow you to determine how much fabric you will need to purchase and will allow you to better understand the entire process.

Step-by-step instructions for making the simplest bedspread are quite simple:

  1. Measure the bed in length and width. If necessary, measure the height to the floor (if you plan to make a flowing bedspread).
  2. Add a few centimeters on each side to the hem.
  3. If frills are planned, then the total length of the sides of the bed with frills is multiplied by 1.5. This will help make beautiful folds. The height of the frill will correspond to the height to the floor.
  4. Buy fabric.
  5. If necessary (large bed size), sew two fabrics.
  6. Finish the edges.
  7. Gather and sew on the frill.

If a frill is not provided, then the edges are simply folded and processed.

The task becomes somewhat more complicated

If you tried to sew the first blanket, you made a slight mistake in the calculations and it turned out a little short - no problem. Frills will help correct the mistake. They can be sewn on all four sides or on two, made from the same fabric or selected material contrasting in color and texture. You can simply sew the ruffles by gathering the fabric by hand and then sewing it to the main part of the bedspread. The joint where the frill is attached to it can be hidden under a ribbon or braid.

To the question of how to sew a bedspread from scraps, there is a very simple answer: first make templates, and then start sewing pieces of fabric in accordance with them - by hand or on a sewing machine. The skills to sew a simple blanket or one with a frill design will come in handy here too. The back of a quilt is usually a single piece of material. And such blankets themselves are often trimmed with frills.

Textile

When choosing fabric, you should be guided by three rules:

  • it should be comfortable to work with her;
  • it should be pleasant to use;
  • the color should match the decoration of the bedroom.

The materials usually used are:

  • silk;
  • tapestry;
  • wool;
  • fur.

Silk will give the room lightness, tapestry - stability and reliability, wool - coziness and warmth, fur - volume and comfort, quilted fabric will give a well-groomed, homely environment.

The quality of the fabric will directly affect the durability and beauty of the created bedspread.

But it is better for a beginning needlewoman to first try her hand at simple cotton or blended fabrics. They are easy to process and require no experience.

Lightweight sliding fabrics require certain skills; they always try to slide off the cutting table, do not like the marking process, and their edges are difficult to process.

A fabric that is too thick may not be able to be processed by a regular sewing machine.

Materials

For sewing bedspreads for the bedroom, the following are most often used:

  • Wool;
  • Cotton;
  • Linen;
  • Natural and artificial silk;
  • Tapestry;
  • Viscose;
  • Fleece;
  • Bamboo;
  • Acrylic;
  • Microfiber;
  • Artificial fur.
