Storage with Ikea, part 3. Wesken rack (+ storage in the bathroom)

Good afternoon

Less than two years later, I’m finally posting the third part about storing using products from the Ikea store. (Parts one and two via links). Today we will talk about storing cosmetics and related products in the bathroom. This post will be especially useful for those who, like me, only have room for one person in their bathroom and don’t have any more free space left.

So, a short background. I have a tiny bathroom. A bathtub is placed there against the wall, and a sink and a washing machine are opposite each other. So there is basically no space left for storage. I don’t really like wall cabinets, so I was looking for a narrow shelving unit that would fit against the wall, next to the sink. And I found it in Ikea, the perfect size.

Photo taken from the official Ikea website from the product page

Above is the official photo. This is how the manufacturer suggests using this rack. Let me clarify some points about this storage system. It is sold folded and can be easily placed in a regular bag; the entire rack weighs 1.94 kg. It is also very easy to assemble; no connecting parts are needed. Everything is held together by simply inserting until it clicks. Easy to assemble even for a child. Speaking of children, it is recommended to attach the rack to the wall so that children do not knock it over on themselves. I had fasteners included in the kit, but at the time of this post there was a clarification on the website that fasteners must be purchased separately and matched to the wall, depending on its material.

Dimensions of the rack in disassembled form:

Width - 36 cm

Depth - 23 cm

Height - 100 cm

Maximum load on the shelf - 13 kg

Distance between shelves - 30 cm

For this photo, I pulled the shelving unit into the bedroom so that there was enough light. So the rack has four shelves, quite spacious. The shelves have edges to prevent tall bottles from falling out. By the way, despite all the apparent capacity, the bottom shelf let me down. I planned to store a large bag (9 kg) of washing powder on it, but it didn’t fit there. Like all the many cans of bleach, stain removers and fabric softeners. Alas, they were left just standing on the floor under the sink. Now let's go through the shelves.

The top shelf has become a stand for everything you need at hand. These are two combs, cotton swabs and a thick gift box in which I have bath bombs (so as not to get wet from the steam), shower caps, and the most ordinary small candles. At the moment, the empty space is occupied by a box of disposable tissues (or paper towels, whichever is more convenient) with which I wipe my face after washing. With a small child, I already have enough laundry to do, so I don’t have the slightest desire to wash small face towels every day, and I clearly see the benefits of disposable handkerchiefs in the condition of my skin.

The second shelf is located just at the level of the lowered hand. Here I have bubble bath and salts. Stocking up on cream face masks that I will start using soon. Not suitable foam for washing, which ideally washes sponges from foundation. Feminine hygiene products, baby soap, shampoo and shower gel. A film mask that I use about once every two weeks, a pore-tightening tonic that I apply only after this mask, and a foam cleanser that I just don’t know what to do with yet. It’s normal, but I’m tired of it, and now I have a fairly balanced and established facial care routine and it’s not possible to cram this foam into it at all.

The third shelf is my storage for shower gels, body scrubs, body creams and hand soaps. For many years now I have preferred the Bath & Body Works brand; I buy soap only from them. Gels sometimes also include Yves Rocher, and for body creams I sometimes also use Victoria's Secret, but very rarely. The photo shows two body scrubs, three shower gels, six body creams and five packs of hand soap. By the way, at the time of fasting, both scrubs were used to the end, all body creams, one package of shower gel and about three bottles of soap. This shelf is my storage room for the products that I definitely use. About four times a year I drive to Bath & Body Works, shop there thoroughly and live peacefully for the next 3-4 months. At the moment I have no body creams in stock at all, I opened the last bottle, which is not in this photo, it was bought later, scrubs are of a different brand, one in use and one in stock, soap in stock about five bottles and one in use. so soon I will go for body creams. I love them!

The bottom shelf is currently the least used. The problem with it is that you don’t want to bend down every day, so your essentials won’t fit there. Household products in the bottles that I use did not fit there. And on the shelf there is simply a supply of bar soap, which in fact I use to wash the rag attachments on the vacuum cleaner. And the rag attachments themselves. If anyone has any suggestions on how to occupy the bottom shelf more effectively, I would be very grateful.

Now comes the real part of the fun. If you pay attention to the official photo, you will understand that my rack, among other things, fits only with the narrow side, and not the wide one. But in general, I find it quite convenient to store everything related to the bathroom in it. In the photo you can see the current layout of everything in my tiny bathroom, and to be clear, I'm standing in the doorway, not inside. Of course, I am upset by the mess among powders and household chemicals, but there is simply no better option yet.

Of course, the set of products on the rack changes all the time, since everything is used in turn. This year I decided to open a new product only after I finish a similar one. And food consumption has increased sharply.

Term of use:

more than a year and a half

Rack price:

799 rubles

Grade:

5+, I think that for this money the rack completely justifies its existence. It will fit perfectly into a small room, be it a bathroom, toilet or closet. It is roomy, looks quite normal, and is easy to clean thanks to the open shelves. And because of the round holes at the bottom of the shelves, “ventilation” occurs. I think this is a good purchase and I am very pleased with it.

And I promised to add a few words to this post about the rest of the storage in my bathroom, since this shelving unit is used more as stash storage.

This double shelf hangs in the corner above the bathtub on the shower head side, and these are actually the products that are used in the shower. On the top shelf there are: hair mask, hair scrub, shampoo and conditioner, baby shampoo, and shower gel. On the bottom shelf: vinegar for rinsing hair, two shower gels, since this is the product in which I want variety. Body Scrub.

On the next wall, just below, is my husband’s shelf. There are his razor, shaving foam, lotion and moisturizing gel. To the right you can see two hooks that hang on the bottom of the previous shelf, on which two washcloths are located, the blue one is harder, the pink one is softer. I chose metal and lattice for both shelves so that water would not accumulate.

Let's move on to the space around the sink. Above the sink I have a large mirror with a small white shelf. On it I have the products that I use in front of the mirror. Deodorant a la Crystal, a small trash can for used cotton pads, swabs, etc. A cleansing mask, a face wash, a moisturizing mask, a face scrub, a spray to spritz the clay mask to keep your face from drying out, a clay mask, an exfoliating roller, a vibrating face wash brush and a regular rubber face wash brush. I keep all serums, creams, toners and the like on my dressing table. Here are those products that require interaction with water.

And on the sink itself there are bar soap, a stand for toothpaste, toothbrushes, and two brushes for applying masks. Teeth rinse, a holder of hand soap, baby soap, the wrong shampoo that I use to wash my makeup brushes, and an empty coffee can that I use to dilute raspberry vinegar for a cold rinse in my hair.

As you can see, there is nothing supernatural in my bathroom. No particularly cunning storage system or ingenious design delights. First of all, this post is a review of the Vesken shelving unit, but I once promised to do a review of bathroom storage, so I collected all the information in one piece.

How do you store cosmetics in the bathroom, and how do you feel about stocks of certain products? I will be glad to see your comments. Thank you very much for your attention!

We need to take off our gray glasses, there are a lot of bright colors in the world.

Sincerely,

Evgenia Greyglasses

Fashionable new items from IKEA

Every year the company releases a variety of new products to improve the comfort and life of people, including new products for the bathroom.

These are Voksnan shower shelves, Thysken baskets and drawers, Lillongen cabinet with shelves, Dragan soap dispenser, Loddan accessory panel, furniture, textile accessories.

Each new product is interesting and original, which is worth talking about in more detail, or better yet, familiarize yourself with the full catalog of bathroom products at IKEA.

Bathroom hangers

The IKEA store's assortment includes hanging hook hangers and metal rods. All options are distinguished by reliable fastening to the underlying wall and are resistant to moisture.

Most often, the material of choice is chrome-plated iron, which favorably emphasizes the interior style of the bathroom.

Shower shelf (Voxnan)

The stylish Voxnan shower shelf made of chromed metal is comfortable and versatile. Ideally attached to a shower rod with a diameter of 19-25 mm.

The chrome-plated metal surface belongs to the stainless steel class, and therefore does not require special care.

Thanks to the universality of fastening, the shelf can be placed at the height you require for ease of use.

Baskets and drawers (Thisken)

The Thysken series includes a whole range of baskets and drawers, which are attached using suction cups, and make the bathroom space multifunctional.

At the same time, the finishing of the walls in the room will not be affected, because you will not have to drill holes. All devices are attached to suction cups.

Wardrobe with shelves (Lillongen)

Lillongen – modern IKEA bathroom cabinet, with shelves and mirror. It is roomy and functional.

Inside it you can easily place the necessary hygiene items and supplies, medications, and the mirrored door will hide everything from prying eyes.

On the shelves located on the side of the cabinet, you can install frequently used items, beautiful accessories and decor.

Soap dispenser (Dragan)

Eco-friendliness is one of IKEA's strong points, so a bamboo-look dispenser will complement any stylish bathroom. It’s easy to make your interior noble with the help of magnificent earthenware sanitary ware and natural wood elements.

The liquid soap dispenser can be used not only as a single unit, but also in combination with a soap dish and a cup holder.

Advantages and disadvantages of IKEA shelving

Designer furniture is expensive. But Ikea makes me happy. The corporation offers practical models made from recycled materials. Wooden, metal, plastic racks and shelves cost much less. The opportunity to purchase additional modules, inserts, doors, and shelves is captivating. Plus, you can add additional elements of other colors. We change beyond recognition!

Are you using Ikea shelving in your bedroom?

Not really

Advantages:

  • acceptable prices;
  • big choice;
  • goods in stock;
  • different sizes.

Flaws:

  • no individuality;
  • quality is poor;
  • impractical height.

The tallest shelves from Ikea are about 230 cm. The ceilings of apartments and houses are usually 250 cm. Therefore, a gap remains. Small models 160-210 cm look completely ridiculous. We recommend that you think about the location immediately. It may be possible to purchase additional modules and separate shelves.

Popular series of shelving from Ikea are Billy, Brimnes, Albert, Kallax, Ivar, Omar, Witsche, Hillis. Made of wood, metal, plastic, there are glass doors, shelves, inserts.

Accessory panel (Loddan)

An IKEA accessory panel will help make a glossy white bathroom more colorful. Families with children will especially appreciate this.

Alternatively, the panel can be installed at a height accessible to small family members who will enjoy using it.

The panel also includes an hourglass with a 6-minute time interval to keep track of time and water consumption. The panel is attached using suction cups to a smooth wall surface.

Shelving dimensions

A special feature of the Ikea collection is the ability to expand and combine a variety of options for shelves, racks, and cabinets. Therefore, size often plays a secondary role. If necessary, we buy additional upper modules, stack the cabinets on top of each other, and come up with something of our own.

More often, questions are related specifically to height. The main options are 77, 147, 160, 182, 230 cm. There are no strict standards. There are heights of 148 cm, 162, 184. When choosing, we immediately pay attention to the dimensions. At the same time, we look through the components of the entire line. Will it be possible to supplement, increase, dilute?

Furniture from IKEA

IKEA bathroom furniture is modern, functional and comfortable. For wide spaces, a whole collection of expensive Hamnes furniture has been developed.

A variety of cabinets with mirrored fronts, shelves, benches, and vanity units will adequately decorate your bathroom, giving it nobility and royal chic.

No less magnificent, but practical and convenient, is the Silveron series. Suitable for medium-sized bathrooms. Floor cabinets, mirror shelves, corner sections, sink cabinets - everything for your convenience.

In addition to those mentioned, several more series of the IKEA brand should be highlighted:

Rönscher - tempered glass and steel shelving with exquisite decorative elements will add elegance to the bathroom.

Godmorgon is furniture, faucets and internal components of shelves and drawers that will serve you for many years thanks to the high quality of materials.

Stugvik - a variety of accessories: multi-colored hooks, toothbrush holders, soap dispensers, soap dishes, cup holders will make the interior brighter and more fun.

With IKEA, your bathroom will be modern, stylish, functional and practical.

IKEA produces a huge range of products for modern and stylish bathrooms that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also multifunctional. Form a close friendship with IKEA that will accompany you throughout your life. Love for IKEA forever!
