Finishing features
Swedish interior is distinguished by its special white palette, which visually expands the boundaries of the premises and helps improve the emotional state of the inhabitants of the house.

Walls
Traditionally, it is believed that wall decoration should be done with decorative plaster in light shades. But modern designers are making their own adjustments to the canons of style. Increasingly, they suggest using Swedish wallpaper in the interior or its combination with painted walls.
For example, three walls are made monochromatic, and the fourth becomes the highlight of the room. It is painted in rich shades or covered with sheets of provocative rich colors. The trend of recent years is wallpaper with small floral prints.

Floor
Swedish style in the interior involves the presence of flooring made of long boards. They should be made of natural light wood or painted white. Not everyone can afford such a floor, since natural materials are quite expensive. A more budget option is ceramic tiles in pastel shades.

Ceiling
The finishing of the ceiling surface is distinguished by the variety of materials from which it can be made. The ceiling can be painted, covered with paintable wallpaper, or lined with plasterboard. Even suspended ceilings are allowed. Decorating the ceiling perimeter with plinths imitating stucco is encouraged. The only prerequisite is white color.

Accents
And yet bright colors are not contraindicated for Swedish apartments. Splashes of ash pink are guaranteed to look good: it will refresh the interior, but in a very subtle way. You can choose a pure color, but then make sure that it is repeated in several details - as in the photo below.

Secret
White color in the main details of the room’s decoration and furnishings visually expands the space and creates a feeling of fresh air in it. The cool shades in which the wallpaper and textiles of upholstered furniture are made encourage relaxation and tranquility and decorate the house. Living room, kitchen, bedroom - everything harmoniously combines the common features of one design solution.
The Scandinavian style house has a white ceiling. It is decorated with plasterboard, tension material, but leveled plaster will look best. As a decorative detail on the ceiling, artificial stucco molding is used on the baseboard. The house is decorated with small paintings and photographs in simple white frames or mirrors.
Proper lighting is the secret to perfection
Daylight hours in Scandinavia last on average seven hours. Therefore, the lighting scenario is very important in Swedish interior design. Lighting is considered the source of life, and it is necessary to use different types and levels of lamps to create a visually comfortable space. Lighting also sets the mood for a Swedish living room design. For example, designers recommend using modern versions of lamps with an industrial design - such as sconces and pendants - in combination with candles in candelabra, which will add warmth and romance.
No curtains
Still, the theme of bare walls and light in Swedish apartments is the main one. In northern latitudes there is too little sun to be protected from it by thick curtains, and apartments often do not have enough square meters to clutter up the space with voluminous curtains. If you really need it, you can always install Roman blinds or hang light white tulle.

Living room
The hall is a spacious room where the main “hero” is a massive white sofa with an abundance of decorative pillows of different shapes and sizes. You can cover it with a colorful blanket made of natural material. This “hero” will go well with a massive white wooden table. Wallpaper or wall paint is white, milky cream or slightly bluish.
The wallpaper has a natural texture. When decorating a house, they often use plain light colors. Decorative plaster in the same color as the main tone is often used. Combined wall decoration involves painting one wall in a bright color, and the other three in a discreet light tone. Instead of highlighting colors, you can stick large-textured wallpaper on one wall. This option visually increases the space.
You can put a small fluffy carpet on the floor, matching the color of the rug or furniture upholstery. Lamps should also not attract special attention. They are decorated with laconic lampshades.
Even the living room windows are covered with blinds. Instead, silk white curtains with a horizontal fold are allowed in window “clothing”.
Bathroom
This room will combine natural wood and ceramic tiles. Simplicity and unpretentiousness in the design of a bathroom and bathroom corresponds to the basic principles of Swedish style.
Design elements can be:
- massive nickel-plated taps and mixers;
- white or pale blue rectangular plumbing fixtures;
- cabinets, bedside tables, shelves - made of natural wood, varnished or white painted;
- white earthenware massive bathtub with chrome legs;
- a large mirror of the correct clear shape - above the washbasin;
- decorative elements - colored fluffy towels, bathrobes, a bright flower in a small flowerpot in a prominent place.
The kitchen and bathroom are decorated with ceramic tiles.
Furniture requirements
Swedish style furniture should be:
- convenient and functional;
- Made from natural and durable materials.
- correspond to the general style of home decoration.

Bright room design in Swedish style
Today on the market there are many different manufacturers offering their services to customers. It is important to remember that it is better to choose furniture for a Swedish interior from manufacturers who use the European style. The most popular brands for interiors of this type are IKEA, Svedbergs, Svenska Möbler. Domestic manufacturers, such as Askona, do not lag behind the Swedes and often delight customers with their new products in the furniture industry.

Decor elements and accessories
Swedish decor is responsible for the coziness in the room, as furniture and decoration are chosen according to the principles of restraint. You can dilute the interior only with the help of decorations and stylish things. They do not cover the entire room; accents are evenly distributed over its area so that not a single corner is left “forgotten.” The floors are decorated with carpets: bright, plain, patterned, with long pile or in the shape of animal skins. One or two paintings depicting picturesque landscapes are hung on the walls or decorated with groups of family photos. Vases of unusual shapes, beautiful bottles, and plates with unobtrusive paintings are placed on the tabletops. Books are placed on the shelves interspersed with candlesticks, photos on supplies, and clocks. The floor is decorated with lamps or massive vases. We must not forget about the “green touches” in the form of indoor plants. Armchairs, sofas, and beds are covered with warm blankets and decorated with groups of pillows in bright colors to match the secondary color scheme. The use of knitted parts is encouraged. Blinds are traditionally attached to windows. In the bedroom, where textile curtains give a special coziness, thin organza curtains are used.
Kitchen
Swedish style dictates conciseness. And the kitchen is no exception. The minimum set of furniture contains a wardrobe or pencil case, hanging cupboards, a cutting table and a dining area - table and chairs.
The kitchen is a small room, and white walls will visually enlarge it. For the same reason, it is appropriate to replace curtains with blinds. Against this background, bright indoor plants in white flowerpots will benefit and the kitchen will liven up. They can also be placed on wall planters and shelves. A forged chandelier that imitates candelabra will suit this interior.
If the size of the room allows, the kitchen can be divided into working and dining areas. Wallpaper and lighting can indicate them. Above the dining area you can hang an antique-style wrought-iron lamp on a long, massive chain. Since the kitchen is used for cooking, the work area should be illuminated with functional spotlights on movable brackets. It is good to lay a small smooth decorative carpet on a wooden floor.
