Methods for producing various materials are improving every day, so the ability to choose the right one is increasing.

Properties of solid oak

Due to its density, this material is difficult to process. Therefore, the price for such an array is always higher than the cost of pressed sawdust, on top of which a decorative film is laid. But in many ways, it is this quality that allows us to produce reliable furniture that is widely popular on the market in its segment.

Many representatives of the stronger half of humanity like wooden furniture made of oak. It emits a special energy that is inherent in the tree itself and has a beneficial effect not only on health, but also on life potential.

Among the main properties of oak wood are the following:

  • Wear resistance;
  • High strength;
  • Durability;
  • Moisture resistance;
  • Plastic;
  • Resistance to temperature changes;

Advantages and disadvantages

Oak furniture has a number of advantages, primarily due to the qualities of wood:

  • The durability of oak products has been tested for centuries - they lend themselves well to restoration treatment, which allows you to extend their service life for a long period;
  • Moisture resistance ensures high safety of furniture, which is not susceptible to exposure to water and temperature changes. This quality of oak is important in the manufacture of kitchen sets;
  • Not susceptible to insect pests - the content of essential oils and resins in wood reliably protects against the appearance of insects and mold;
  • Beauty, graceful nobility, respectable appearance can decorate any interior. Oak will organically complement the design of a room of any style: from classic to modern;
  • The variety of wood colors provides ample opportunities for room decoration;
  • Compatibility with other materials determines the variety of products made from valuable wood.

Oak furniture has its disadvantages, which should be taken into account when choosing it as the basis of the interior:

  • High cost, which is a sign of recognized quality. Having decided to decorate your apartment with pieces of furniture made of noble wood, you need to be prepared for financial costs;
  • Large weight is a factor due to the density of wood, giving it significant strength;
  • The impressive appearance of the furniture can be a disadvantage when decorating small apartments, as it gives the room some heaviness.

Why is oak furniture so expensive?

Many people wonder why the price of solid oak furniture is sometimes comparable to the cost of some good used car? This is due to completely natural reasons. The production of furniture from solid oak takes much more time, and is significantly more expensive. In this case, the preparation of the material – drying – is important. In addition, the final stage plays an important role, for which different methods are used:

  • tinting;
  • impregnation;
  • varnishing

But the main feature of the production of furniture and all other elements from solid wood is that the craftsman takes an individual approach to any board.

In this regard, such work simply cannot be entrusted to machines, since it is manual labor that is important here. Therefore, to buy solid oak furniture in Moscow or any other city, you will have to pay a decent amount.

And since there are not so many craftsmen who know how to handle oak at a professional level, their skills and abilities are as highly valued as the wood itself. In other words, this is why any furniture made from solid oak will cost significantly more than items for the production of which other analogues were used.

The high price is also due to the wide range of colors - from a yellowish-white tint to a yellow-brown tone. It is worth noting that oak in its natural color is practically not used, except in rare cases. Basically, wood is stained.

What furniture to choose - solid oak or beech

Which furniture is better - solid oak or beech? Both of these breeds belong to the same family. Both beech and oak have dense wood, which actually determines their practicality and reliability. However, they may differ in some respects. Therefore, it is worth conducting a comparative analysis to determine which of the two types of trees is of the greatest value. To do this, it is worth considering several criteria:

  1. Colors. The texture and shades of both types of wood are pleasant. Except that the growth rings of beech are decorated with pronounced inclusions. The color of this variety can be peach, pinkish or yellowish. The red-brown color of centuries-old trees is exclusive, valued above other varieties! The coloring of oak is also quite extensive - from a light golden shade to gray-brown and rich brown tones. During use, the wood darkens, which is why pieces of furniture take on an antique look. Although over time, beech also changes in color.
  2. Properties. Beech is an alternative to the stronger wood of oak. In terms of basic indicators, beech is practically not inferior to oak. In addition, after special treatment, beech can become stronger than oak. However, in some ways he clearly loses. We are talking about resistance to moisture; water has a destructive effect on the structure of beech. Wood is also prone to mold and fungal infections. Therefore, in order to protect the material, it is treated with special impregnations. Oak itself is resistant to moisture and biological destroyers - protection provided by nature itself.
  3. Application area. Due to the distinctive features mentioned above, beech requires more careful handling. That is, you cannot use wood for finishing work on the outside or inside without high-quality protective impregnation. Oak does not need such manipulations. It is from this tree that bathhouses and outbuildings are built. The material is also good for making barrels that are stored for a long time in damp basements. At the same time, beech is more flexible and for this reason it makes good bent furniture of the elite class.

But what should you choose in the end – solid oak or beech furniture? The main difference lies in the atmosphere created - beech can visually refresh the space of a room and it has a soft and warm energy. Oak is the personification of luxury, nobility and aristocracy. In any case, the choice in favor of one material or another is the prerogative of the owner of the home.

Designer tips when choosing children's furniture

The choice of children's furniture made of oak depends on several factors: the age of the child, the general design concept, the desired finish and individual wishes. It is also necessary to take into account general principles, among which designers identify a number of the most important ones.

1. Convenience comes first

The filling should be comfortable and ergonomic. For example, all compartments of a closet, cabinet or chest of drawers must correspond to the individual characteristics of its owner. If a child has a lot of books and other items for study, then each of them should have its own place. It is worth considering the optimal height of the cabinets and a convenient distance in the arrangement of the shelves. Properly selected furniture for height ensures correct posture. It is advisable to select cabinets so that the child can independently reach any shelf. A convenient solution is transformable children's furniture made of oak, where all furniture items are equipped with sliding mechanisms. For example, beds with sliding sections or tables and chairs with adjustable legs. The dimensions of such furniture can easily be changed depending on the child’s parameters.

2. Security

Reliable fixation of shelves, bedside tables and correct insertion of fittings. This is necessary for safe operation. When manufactured in production with professional equipment, all these parameters are taken into account. The fittings are adjusted and configured immediately at the factory, and installation is carried out using modern technology, guaranteeing correct and reliable installation of furniture. It is important to minimize small elements in the furniture set so that the child does not accidentally get injured. Paints and varnishes must be hypoallergenic and not emit harmful substances. To do this, you should give preference only to European brands of paints and varnishes, which provide a quality guarantee for their products.

3. Design

Preferably light shades in the design of the headset if it is placed in a small room. This will make the space visually larger. Plus, light colors never go out of style. Bright, acidic shades can quickly get boring, especially when the baby grows up.

Oak furniture in interior design

If the square footage of the living space allows, solid oak furniture can be installed in any type of premises; many options and configurations of oak sets are available to order. Whether it’s a kitchen or a children’s room, a bedroom or a living room, a hallway or a bathroom – furniture made of oak veneer or solid wood will always be appropriate. Let's look at the example of the idea of using oak wood furniture in the interiors of various rooms.

Bedroom furniture

The design of a classic bedroom style, despite the well-known details, embodies luxury and wealth. Choosing the optimal shade for this room is not an easy task. It depends only on personal preferences what kind of atmosphere will reign here.

We can say with confidence that the ideal furniture for a bedroom is solid bleached oak. Pastel shades of wood in the bedroom interior will visually increase the dimensions of the room, making it lighter. This special atmosphere is conducive to a restful sleep.

The bleached shade of oak is relevant not only for the furniture used, it is also good for finishing walls and floors. The ideal picture will be obtained if the bedside area is decorated with light oak panels.

Fans of dark colors will love the combination of a soft bed with an artificially aged wardrobe or chest of drawers. To top it off - heavy curtains. Within the room, all pieces of bedroom furniture made of solid oak will be in harmony with each other.

What shades of solid oak furniture are suitable for this room:

  • Sonoma;
  • lactic;
  • bleached;
  • wenge;
  • grey;
  • milky;
  • Chamonix;
  • canyon.

How this looks in practice, look at the photos we presented below:

Furniture in the hallway

Solid oak furniture is suitable for the hallway of any interior - from classic and modern style to exquisite designs - Provence, country, retro and others. In this case, dark tones will be in harmony with light and olive shades of the walls. When choosing furniture made of solid oak in a light milky color in favor of visually expanding the room, you can play up the contrast with the finishing of vertical surfaces.

But if the design of the room corresponds to the high-tech style, then in this case the choice of oak furniture will be irrational. The fact is that this interior is distinguished by an abundance of cold “metallic” tones. Oak clearly does not correspond to such an environment.

But a bleached shade will come in handy. This color is relevant not only for the bedroom; the hallway with such furniture will become even more spacious. The space will become brighter and more comfortable. In addition, the milky color of solid oak furniture harmonizes with almost any other shades, including pistachio, cherry, turquoise or dark chocolate.

For a spacious room, it is better to choose solid oak hallway furniture of a modular design. Also place other objects nearby - a soft sofa, a miniature carved or glass table. This environment leads to comfort and goodwill among the guests, because the first room that catches your eye is the hallway.

You can also use other tricks:

  • Mirrors. This solution can add some squares to the hallway.
  • Ergonomics of color. You should not combine a dark floor with the same color scheme of walls! It is better to stick photo wallpapers that have the ability of mirrors - creating the illusion of additional space.
  • Light. Lighting in the hallway should not only be general - it is advisable to have additional lamps. Some pieces of furniture for the hallway are equipped with additional “lanterns”.

A special atmosphere of coziness and comfort in a cramped hallway can again be created thanks to light shades. Here, even modest pieces of furniture will give the room modernity and laconicism.

What shades of solid oak furniture are suitable for this room:

  • Cremona;
  • Sonoma;
  • bleached;
  • white gloss;
  • Belfort;
  • yellow oak;
  • golden oak.

Bathroom furniture

The use of solid oak bathroom furniture is largely due to certain qualities of this wood - resistance to rot and resistance to moisture. But this is where the highest level of humidity is maintained during the procedures. The only thing that can upset us is the cost of bath furniture, since otherwise oak represents only practicality and reliability.

As for the shades of oak furniture for the bathroom, you should leave your choice to light colors if the room is small. This way you can visually make it a little more spacious. Also, this color is suitable for classical-style rooms, because oak and classics are already a tradition that will never lose its relevance.

If there are no restrictions on the size of the bathroom, then the choice expands significantly. The brighter the room, the darker the shades the furniture can be. You can also play with contrast here. Artificially aged furniture does not lose popularity.

When choosing a light shade of solid oak bathroom furniture, it makes sense to add color accents. In this case, the furniture will not get lost, but will stand out favorably against the general background. For example, the emphasis can be placed on tiles of an azure shade.

What shades of solid oak furniture are suitable for this room:

  • lactic;
  • wenge;
  • Cremona;
  • antique;
  • pallas;
  • Belfort;
  • bardolino;
  • truffle;
  • gold.

Living room furniture

For the living room, the following shades of oak are relevant: milky, bleached, sonoma, wenge. Moreover, oak living room furniture can be entirely of this shade or partially combine other tones. The following options may be a good solution:

  • Red tree. There is a good harmony here - mahogany against the background of bleached oak becomes darker and warmer than its opponent.
  • Dark loredo. Exquisite living rooms are created precisely due to this shade and thanks to it, the bleached oak background looks luxurious, and its cool tonality looks lighter.
  • Light mountain larch. At first glance, these two types of wood are indistinguishable in color. But if you look closely, you will notice warmer shades of larch.
  • Dark type of mountain larch. Although this wood is darker compared to bleached oak, it at the same time looks much warmer.

As for the size of the room, the best choice for small living rooms is bleached oak. Visually the room will become even more spacious and bright. If the room itself is dark with poor lighting, then you should definitely not use cold shades - the room will become gloomy and uncomfortable. But the sunny side already gives you a free hand in terms of choosing the appropriate color - here you can rely on your own preferences. Even cold tones are acceptable.

Not least of all is the design style. For classics, it is better to choose warm beige or sand shades. A shabby grayish color scheme suits the vintage style.

What shades of solid oak furniture are suitable for this room:

  • gray craft;
  • barrique;
  • canyon light;
  • Coburg;
  • chateau;
  • yellow oak;
  • Halifax white.

Children's furniture

Being in such a room, the child should feel comfortable and cozy. You should not load the room with dark tones; it is better to choose light children's furniture made of oak in shades of yellow, sonoma, milky, white. The natural material will not harm the baby’s health, and the color will refresh the room. Furniture sets can be bright colors. Let milky wallpaper or wallpaper with cartoon characters decorate the walls, and a large, unusual chandelier decorate the ceiling.

When choosing, first of all rely on:

  • functionality of children's furniture made of oak - do not clutter the room with aesthetic elements;
  • ease of use - the child should be comfortable while sitting, sleeping or performing any task;
  • favorable price – keep an eye out for discounts, promotions and great deals;
  • the ability to transform with the growth and development of the child - a child in adolescence develops quickly and a sharp growth spurt should not be the reason for purchasing a new headset.

Natural material for bedroom interior

If you want a light, simple design, then give preference to the Provence style and choose the color of bleached oak for furniture. Light furniture will visually enlarge your room. Just don't overdo it with white. If the wallpaper, floor and surroundings are milky in color, you will get a “sterility” effect and a feeling of discomfort will arise.

Brown oak furniture set in the bedroom

If your goal is a chic bedroom, then abandon the milky color in favor of dark shades. A soft bed, an artificially aged chest of drawers, a wardrobe, heavy curtains will perfectly harmonize with each other within a luxurious bedroom.

Palette of shades of oak furniture

Solid oak furniture comes in different colors: from classic dark to white pastel shades. To obtain the required color, various material processing technologies are used. In the natural environment, the white color of wood is very rare in young trees that are not used for furniture production. Therefore, white shades are obtained using the bleaching procedure. Wood acquires golden colors when artificially aged.

Dark colors are inherent in certain types of wood that have a natural dark color. One of these species is Cognac oak, which grows in the European part. Also, a dark shade is obtained using thermal treatment of wood or the staining process. These methods produce beautiful dark shades. And heat treatment improves the natural qualities of the material.

Basic shades of solid oak furniture

Such furniture has the main advantage - the room is filled with warmth and light. And with the right approach, ordered solid oak furniture will create a special atmosphere of comfort and coziness.

The stained oak shade is an original and stylish choice for the interior of any room. Just keep in mind that this color has a purely dark shade, so it is only relevant for well-lit rooms. And since the main condition for this range is space, in small rooms it is optimal to use only “stained” accessories.

Shade "Wenge". The deep dark chocolate color scheme fits perfectly with light walls, giving the room a special elegance and chic. Among the additional colors that can harmonize with the “Wenge” shade, it is worth noting the following range: coffee with milk; blue; avant-garde; gray (light colors); mint; beige.

Oak furniture finishing options

The beauty and elegance of products made from solid wood helps to reveal various processing options. Let's take a closer look at the technologies mentioned above:

  1. Staining is a procedure for treating oak to obtain a dark purple hue. It is considered rare and decorates the rich interiors of cottages and large apartments. Furniture made from bog oak is suitable for offices, bedrooms and living rooms.
  2. Bleaching is used to lighten wood without disturbing its structure. Light colors visually enlarge the space and make the room sunnier and more comfortable. Bleached oak has a number of useful properties. For example, scratches and dirt are less visible on a light surface. Therefore, products made from bleached oak are often installed in hallways. And thanks to the cozy atmosphere inherent in white tones, such furniture is placed in children's rooms and bedrooms.
  3. Brushing and patination - used to give products an antique and antique look. Such procedures are used when processing garden and country sets, as well as to create a certain style in the kitchen, living room or office. The effect of abrasion with small cracks on the surface makes the appearance of the room noble and unusual.

Use of wood in the production of building materials

There are several types of semi-finished oak products:

  • solid board (solid) – used in the construction of floor coverings and installation of heavy furniture frames;
  • unedged board , the side edges of which contain the bends of the tree trunk, but are cleared of bark. The use of such lumber is associated with rough work and the production of thematic installations;
  • veneer - used primarily in furniture production and consists of thin layers of oak glued from the outside onto a rough surface. This coating partially protects the furniture from abrasion and adds aesthetic appeal;
  • oak chips – used for smoking products (especially in electric smokehouses) and as a source of tannins in cognac and wine production. Oak chips are produced mainly from scraps of boards.

Unique design and Italian finishing

Unique design, a combination of modern and ancient technologies in decoration, an exact match to the style of your interior - all this is in our furniture. Furniture acquires its appearance at the project development stage. In each case, designers select individual solutions that can satisfy any requirements.

1. Luxurious classics

Luxurious classics are expressed in massiveness, volume and variety of decor in the design - multi-level cornices, wide elements in the form of columns decorated with milling, carvings under gold leaf or gold leaf, wood inlays, hand painting. For classic interiors, surfaces of any shade hidden under enamel and coated with gloss in combination with patina are suitable. Can highlight the gloss of a luxury interior and furniture made of tinted oak, painted in noble shades and demonstrating all the expressiveness of wood texture. One of the popular classical trends today is modern classics (neoclassical). Such interiors are more restrained in design. Often this is a sophisticated decor, light matte colors, blank or laconically glazed facades, symmetry. The design of the sets contains both clear geometric shapes and spherical and hemispherical shapes, emphasized by milling.

2. Modern

Various combinations of valuable wood species, moderately “diluted” with metal, glass or stone - this is what is always relevant for modernism. In modern interiors, dark stained furniture with smooth shapes, curved or carved elements, metal fittings or forged handles looks laconic. As an alternative, open fronts combined with Italian brass profiles and glass, light enamel or natural wood shades. Art Nouveau and modern classics are united by the predominant use of natural materials, and sometimes a complete rejection of wallpaper in favor of wooden wall decoration. Furniture made from natural wood provides ample opportunities for embodying unity of style in your space. Noble oak furniture goes well with oak windows, wooden walls, ceilings, solid doors, and wooden parquet. The center of the interior can be a marching or spiral oak staircase.

3. Provence

A massive oak table and chairs with soft backs, furniture fronts with a combination of glass and vintage wood, rounded corners, floral motifs and predominantly light shades - all these are notes of Provence. The charm of the French countryside is perfectly conveyed by objects made of oak, decorated using the technology of simulating careless finishing or aging - brushing, crackle, patina. The traditional attributes of a bedroom in the Provence style are an oak dressing table with a mirror in a massive frame or an antique chest of drawers.

The Provence kitchen features a painted retro sideboard with ceramic dishes, cabinets and cupboards made of bleached oak. We produce authentic chests of drawers, wardrobes, desks, as well as entire furniture compositions for bedrooms, living rooms, and dining rooms.

4. Art Deco

Art Deco is a combination of style and functionality in the design of expensive interiors of residential premises, banquet halls, and hotel lobbies. Glossy and varnished surfaces of wooden furniture are combined with velvet fabrics in pastel or dark shades, geometric and broken patterns in decoration, brass, and metallized enamel. For Art Deco, such design techniques as 3D milling, which creates a three-dimensional decor on a wooden surface, application of gloss with multi-layer polishing, the use of rare and exotic veneers (wenge, merbau, anegri and others), dark shades in the design of the set, combination wood with expensive materials - artificial or natural leather, precious metals and their imitation. This style is the true embodiment of luxury in designer interiors.

Features of the production of furniture from solid oak

Technologies for making oak furniture have been known since the 18th and 19th centuries. Currently, the production process is more automated, but does not depart from the original technologies. Solid wood is artificially dried and then varnished. The composition of modern varnish eliminates the negative impact on humans and provides reliable protection of furniture from mechanical damage, fungus and wood destruction by harmful insects.

The process of producing custom-made oak furniture consists of several stages:

  1. Preliminary agreement between the manufacturer and the client regarding the parameters of future products. At this stage, the room in which the furniture will be installed is studied, all necessary measurements are taken, and its main functionality and appearance are determined.
  2. Development of a design project. The designer provides the client with sketch options, from which the most optimal one for the customer is selected. After all the modifications to the sketch, a drawing of the product is made with a detailed drawing of all furniture elements and an indication of their sizes.
  3. Selection of materials for making furniture. The customer chooses the type of oak from which the designed items will be made. In addition to wood, inserts made of natural stone, leather, and glass can be installed into furniture. This point is also discussed with the client in advance.
  4. Manufacturing of components. The array is cut into several parts. Then, using a machine, they are given the required shape. Polishing, varnishing and decorating are carried out entirely by hand.
  5. Furniture assembly. The elements prepared in advance are assembled in the room where the furniture will be located. In production, only small interior items are assembled: tables, chairs.

The process of making oak furniture is very labor-intensive and complex. To obtain high-quality products, it is necessary to strictly follow all the rules of its production technology.

Restoration of homemade wooden furniture

Small defects can be removed using retouching markers and pencils. Such tools can be purchased in specialized stores, where there are many options to choose from. In order to paint furniture in a certain tone, you should select markers that are similar in color.

For damage such as scratches, markers alone are not enough. To restore scratches, wax is used, which literally makes them invisible.

On the market you can find a large assortment that provides types of wax of different hardness and composition. When using this material, you also need to paint the furniture with varnish or enameled material.

How to distinguish solid oak furniture from fakes

In some stores, the fight for the client is carried out in a variety of ways, and the severity of such actions can go off scale. Often sellers resort to one trick - instead of real solid oak, a cheaper type of wood appears.

Tree species can be easily distinguished in their natural conditions. But after processing and coating with varnish (stain), it is no longer so easy to distinguish them, if at all possible.

However, there are a number of significant factors that will help identify a fake:

  • Weight – it’s worth doing a simple experiment. If the bedside table lifts without effort or you don’t have to strain to move the bed, you should be wary. For your information, the weight of pine is on average 1.5-2 times less than oak.
  • Hardness – if you press discreetly on the surface of the furniture with your fingernail, the dent remains on coniferous wood.
  • The structure of real oak is porous with beautiful heart-shaped vein patterns. In addition, other types of wood simply do not have the same texture as this tree.
  • Smell – oak aroma is rich and specific. There is also some bitterness in it.

If furniture made from solid oak is purchased to order, then it is unlikely that the store management will decide to deceive, since this could lead to trouble and the business could simply fail. However, you may encounter another problem - violations at the wood preparation stage. The material must dry well, otherwise the products will subsequently dry out, lose their shape and become covered with cracks.
