Types of cabinet and dressing room fillings, main elements

Kinds

Depending on the type of structure, the filling for dressing rooms can be:

  • cabinet - made of wooden panels;
  • mesh - the fillers are mesh baskets;
  • loft systems made of aluminum.

There are a lot of ways to fill dressing rooms and they depend only on the size of the budget. These can be either self-designed racks, rods with plastic drawers, baskets, or expensive natural wood facades with glass front panels and drawers.

Options for filling wardrobes can be combined in different ways: wooden shelves with mesh baskets, metal racks and closed wooden drawers. The main thing is that the chosen system for the dressing room makes it easy to maintain order, provides a clear overview, and quick access to things.

Hull

Sections made of cabinet panels are a classic organization of space for dressing rooms. Racks, partitions, shelves, drawers are made entirely of wood or MDF, chipboard panels. Wooden shelving resembles classic cabinets and walls. A wide range of colors allows you to create an interior design of any style: classic, Provence, shabby chic, hi-tech, country. The internal filling can be made according to an individual project, using different sizes of shelves, rods, and retractable drawers. If you decide to go with a budget option for chipboard materials, you should be sure that you have a safety certificate confirming the non-toxicity and odorlessness of phenol-formaldehyde resins.

Frame systems are fixed structures and include corner elements. All elements of such a dressing room are rigidly connected to each other and securely attached to the walls. If you want to change something in the location, it will be somewhat difficult to do so. Therefore, when choosing traditional systems, you should pay special attention to room planning and think through every little detail.

Mesh

Such structures are also called cellular structures. The principle of the device: metal mesh shelves are hung on vertical slats attached to the walls, equipped with special mounting holes, and rods are attached. Instead of wooden boxes, mesh baskets are installed on the grids. The main advantage of mesh systems is visibility and transparency. When entering the dressing room, you don’t need to open the drawers yet, everything is immediately visible - where and what is stored.

The second important advantage is mobility: shelves and drawers are easy to hang and rearrange. Therefore, this storage organization option will really appeal to those who like to optimize space through changes and rearrangements. IKEA and Elfa have a wide selection of such designs; they are easy and quick to assemble using improvised means.

One of the disadvantages is that all the parts are presented in strictly defined sizes: the depth of the shelves is 30, 40, 50 centimeters, the baskets are 45 centimeters in size. Also, those who love sophisticated design may not quite like the simplicity of the honeycomb filling. Typically, all parts of mesh structures are made of white or silver metal. When purchasing, you should choose models without unevenness, roughness, or protruding parts that things can cling to or tear.

Loft

The name of the structure comes from the word loft - this is the architectural style of former factory buildings converted into residential premises. It is characterized by an abundance of space and metal parts. By choosing the filling for a room in this style, you will visually expand the room and make it very modern and ergonomic. The structures are represented by metal racks connecting the ceiling and floor, or the upper racks are fastened directly to the walls in the shape of the letter L.

Here the space is not zoned, everything is open, very aesthetically pleasing.

The rods themselves, shelves, shoe racks, and drawers are attached to the racks. This option is also suitable for various rearrangements, but not independently, but with the use of special tools. Not everyone may like to store things so openly, unprotected from dust, but this arrangement option is the most conducive to ideal order. Any boxes or baskets can be installed here: made of plastic, wood, wicker materials. The convenience of the loft system is that it is easy to install modules of various configurations, even the most non-standard shapes.

Idea 2: Use the entire height of the room

Large items that are not often used in everyday life can be conveniently placed on the upper tier of the dressing room, under the ceiling. The dimensions of the items will help determine the height of the tier. Add 3-5 cm to this size so that things can be easily moved, removed and put back in place.

On the upper tier you can allocate space for suitcases, boxes with Christmas tree decorations, a New Year tree, additional pillows and bedspreads. If desired, this area can be hidden from view; to do this, cover it with facades, turning it into a closet.

Essential elements

A dressing room is, first of all, a large dedicated space for storing bulky winter clothes, seasonal clothes, shoes, and a variety of small things. When organizing storage, remember that you cannot hang clothes on hooks: this will cause them to become deformed, stretch out, and lose their presentable appearance. Let's take a closer look at all the elements of an effective storage system.

Bars and pantographs

The dressing room must have several rods:

  • for long clothes: one high up to 165-175 centimeters;
  • for short items: several pieces of rods up to 100 centimeters long for storing skirts, jackets, jackets and blouses;
  • pantograph rod: a sliding version that can be raised and lowered to the required height.

For a corner wardrobe, the rods can also be arranged in a spiral, thereby saving space. The guides can be positioned either parallel to the wall or perpendicular, if the space in the dressing room allows. A more convenient and economical location option is to install rods along the walls.

Do not make the bars too long - more than 100 centimeters, otherwise they may collapse under the weight of clothing.

Trouser hangers

They can be either single or double. Mandatory height is no less than 60 centimeters. Hangers for trousers with pintucks must be in the wardrobe; they should be provided in a separate place, providing easy access for choosing the appropriate model. These hangers are convenient for hanging not only trousers, jeans, but also skirts of different lengths.

Boxes

When choosing the filling, you should provide closed drawers, so all things will be reliably protected from dust, water, and other troubles. Large drawers are needed for storing linen and bedding, small ones for accessories and decorations. It is better to equip small flat drawers for jewelry and small items with dividers to avoid confusion. When using retractable drawers, you need to provide them with ¾ extension and full depth. You can also equip them with closers. For ease of viewing, drawers with transparent front panels that allow you to see the contents are perfect.

Shelves

Shelves can be retractable or fixed. The width of a standard shelf should not be less than 30-40 centimeters. For mezzanines it is necessary to provide wider shelves - up to 50-60 centimeters. This is where you will put suitcases, large bags, including travel bags, out-of-season clothes and everything that you rarely use. Fixed shelves do not need to be made very deep - more than 100 cm, since the length of an adult’s arm does not exceed 80 cm. To achieve mobility, the shelves can be retractable or folding.

Boxes and baskets

To store items that do not require ironing, various boxes and baskets with or without lids are perfect. They can be of any materials, plastic, wood, straw, fabric. They can be placed on shelves, or you can purchase models with a built-in retractable mechanism on wheels.

To quickly find the thing you need, you can label each box or basket and designate its contents: paste a sticker with large bright letters, attach a symbolic drawing or even a photograph of the things stored in the container. For boxes, you can also purchase internal dividers made of plastic, cardboard or thick fabric.

Shoe storage modules

Shoes can be stored in boxes on the shelves of the dressing room, but this is not very practical or convenient if you decide to organize a dressing room. Assembling a ready-made look for going out most often begins from the bottom, that is, from the shoes, so all shoes, boots, shoes should be clearly arranged on special modules. Multi-tiered inclined, straight shelves in several rows will serve this purpose perfectly. You can also display shoes under the clothes rails: for certain seasonal clothes, place the appropriate shoes underneath.

It is more convenient to hang boots, especially long ones, such as over the knee boots, on special hangers with tucks to preserve their original shape. For them you need to leave a special section with a barbell up to 60 cm high. A practical option is to place the shoes on special shoe lasts along a long rack. It is better to store shoes of the current season on the middle or lower tier of the dressing room, while for other seasons it is better to hide them on closed shelves, in drawers or put them away on the mezzanine.

Accessory holders

Ties, scarves, scarves and belts can be easily hung on trouser hangers, on hanging hangers that fit on rods, or placed on vertical racks with clips in a circle in one or several rows. You can purchase special multi-tiered hangers for accessories, or buy a wide hanger with many hooks and attach it to a counter, wall or door. It is convenient to store jewelry and valuables:

  • in flat boxes on shelves;
  • in special boxes arranged in vertical or horizontal rows;
  • boxes with fabric partitions;
  • special “trees” for decorations, hanging on branches and leaves;
  • on mannequins depicting a whole figure, bust or head of a person.

Separately, it is worth noting that buying a mannequin on which you can put on hats, jewelry, hang bags, and tie scarves will be a profitable investment in your dressing room. Such a mannequin will not only be a convenient functional addition, but will also decorate your wardrobe.

Sections for household supplies

You can use the dressing room not only for storing clothes, bedding fabrics, and towels. Here you can conveniently place household equipment: ironing board, iron, steamer, vacuum cleaner, buckets and other containers. For this purpose, separate sections, or open corners, should be provided in advance in the initial plan. For aesthetic purposes, it is best to cover these areas of the dressing room with doors or decorative partitions.

Mirrors

It is advisable to have several mirrors in the dressing room: one large, full-length, others smaller. A large mirror for fitting should be attached to a wall, door, counter, or it can be a mirror module tilting in different directions. It is better to place smaller mirrors nearby so that you can see yourself from all sides. You can also install a dressing table here; in this case, you need to take care of proper lighting. Don’t forget to have a pouf, a comfortable chair or sofa in the center for ease of trying on and displaying selected items.

Idea 4: Place hanging rods on top of each other

Count the number of items you will place on the hangers and determine how many rods and how long you need. Shirts and blouses are shorter in length than dresses, so clothes rails will be positioned at different heights to ensure that items do not touch the bottom rail, shelf or floor.

It is convenient to store men's shirts on the upper rod, since men are taller, and on the lower rod - women's dresses and blouses.

What filling to choose

The selection of elements for the dressing room begins at the planning stage. The wardrobe plan allows you to decide on the required number of compartments and calculate how much the filling shown in the photo will cost. The type of filling you choose will depend on your budget. To finally make sure which option for arranging a dressing room you like best, you should definitely look at photos of dressing rooms with different types of contents.

Cabinet furniture made of wooden panels is a classic storage option; it looks more presentable, but will also cost more.

The mesh filling of the dressing room allows you to significantly save financial resources, looks fresh and democratic, and in addition, it is the most mobile storage system. Loft-style systems are suitable for lovers of high-tech and modern. This option is convenient if you already have boxes of various and non-standard sizes that need to be somehow organized and sorted.

It is possible to create the filling of a dressing room with your own hands - this is the most budgetary investment of resources. To do this, you just need to stock up on the necessary parts and modules. In addition to saving significant money, your creative potential as a designer will also be revealed.

Whatever option you choose for the interior design of the dressing room storage space, it is important to rationally use every square centimeter from floor to ceiling. We must not forget about the safety and integrity of clothing and shoes: the presence of sufficient ventilation, the absence of sharp corners that can ruin things. The main thing is to reflect your personality in your wardrobe design. Then the dressing room will really become not only a reliable assistant in storing personal belongings, but also a decoration of your home, which is clearly visible in the photo.

Idea 14. Think over the furniture design

Arrange the shelves symmetrically, maintain the height of the rods by placing the shelves at the same level so that the dressing room looks organic and pleasant. The horizontals and verticals of a furniture design should not be chaotic, but should logically obey a certain system.

For optimal organization of space, we recommend using ready-made sets of furniture for the hallway from Davita-furniture.

How to plan a dressing room in the attic in a private house (+ photo)

The attic is not a full second floor, but this room cannot be considered an attic. Unlike a cold attic, an attic can be lived in because it is insulated and equipped with heating and ventilation systems, and it also has large windows that provide natural light.

The design of the room has certain specifics. The room has a sloping ceiling due to the slope of the roof. The height of the attic walls, up to which furniture can be placed, is 0.8–1.5 meters.

The difficulty of creating an interior in the attic can at the same time be considered an advantage. On the one hand, the need to make custom-made furniture according to individual sizes involves significant expenses. However, the design is exclusive and modern.

Typically, the attic is used for an office or nursery, which does not require tall furniture. Making a dressing room out of this room is also a good solution.

  • The clothes and shoes of all family members will be collected in one place, so you no longer need to look for them in different closets.
  • If you find it difficult to imagine how to plan a dressing room, the photo below can serve as a clear example.

  • To organize storage of things in the attic, ordering capital furniture of an unusual design is not at all necessary. Installing rods with hangers, open mobile shelves and drawers will be quite sufficient. Ease of finding the items you need will ensure easy access.
  • When using the entire attic space, you can place a dressing table, a large mirror surface, an ottoman and other furniture in the room.
  • One of the advantages of the attic is large windows.

The configuration of the internal space is determined by the geometry of the roof. A room in the attic can be rectangular, triangular, with a bay window or loggia, or asymmetrical. When arranging such a room, you can encounter significant difficulties. Furniture for it can either be ordered from professionals or assembled with your own hands according to your own design.

Behind the head of the bed

If the room is long and elongated, then a dressing room behind the head of the bed is a good option.

We erect a partition between the wall and the sleeping place, leaving a space at least a meter wide to the main wall. The partition can be anything: wooden, glass, plasterboard or just a thick curtain.

Depending on the area and your imagination, in such a dressing room you can place rods between the floor and ceiling, a closet with shelves and drawers, or shelves on the walls.
