IKEA orthopedic mattresses are an affordable way to get a healthy sleep

What are the main types of mattresses?

Depending on the design, they contain a metal frame with springs, or a block with one or a combination of fillers. Which mattress is better to choose? Spring - alternates metal and polyurethane layers. It has a kind of pushing property.

The top layer of soft filler makes it comfortable. Such products are very durable, last a long time, and have a 25-year warranty.

Springless ones have less resistance, however, like the first ones, they are orthopedic. Suitable for those who do not like spring vibrations, good for children under 10 years old, as they allow the spine to form correctly.

The best IKEA mattresses

The rating includes spring and springless mattresses, as well as thin toppers from Ikea, which will allow you to organize a comfortable sleeping place at a reasonable price.

Ikea Hokkasen

With two spring blocks

The mattress, which is very unusual in its design, is distinguished by its very large thickness and soft surface. It doesn't just look comfortable, it actually is.

Reasons to buy:

  • surface with memory effect;
  • ideal support for the body during sleep;
  • it is not hot on the memory foam even in summer;
  • the cover is removable for cleaning;
  • extended warranty.

Inside the Hokkosen there are two independent spring blocks located one above the other: a standard one and one consisting of short mini-springs. Even in premium mattresses, such an unusual solution is rarely found.

This is what allows the model to provide ideal differentiated support for all areas of your body, depending on the load created. In total, there are 500 small and standard springs per bed.

The blocks are separated from each other by a thin and pliable layer of filler, and the top is lined with latex and polyurethane memory foam. It completely follows the contours of the body, but due to its relatively small thickness it does not allow you to completely sink into the mattress.

Hokkosen is very thick, which makes it difficult to match it with a mattress pad and fitted sheets. But IKEA has suitable accessories for such a huge mattress.

Ikea Hornindal

More springs = better support

A very hard mattress with an orthopedic effect is suitable for fairly heavy people, providing proper support for the body during sleep.

Reasons to buy:

  • really high rigidity;
  • a large number of springs;
  • reinforced box around the perimeter;
  • durability and warranty up to 25 years.

Among IKEA mattresses with an independent block of springs, Hernindal has the highest density of their arrangement - 235 pcs./sq.m., and each is packaged in a separate bag. Moreover, around the perimeter the entire block is held in place by a thin metal tie, plus a polyurethane box.

A thick slab of coconut coir is laid on top of the springs, complemented by much thinner natural latex. This results in a high firmness of the mattress - ideal for those who do not like to sink or sleep on their stomach.

Ikea Hareid

With a massage effect

This mattress is declared as hard, but its rigidity is comfortable - mainly due to the thick relief layer of polyurethane foam, which slightly moves under the weight of the body.

Reasons to buy:

  • 5-zone spring block;
  • does not convey movement;
  • silent;
  • removable cover;
  • warranty up to 25 years.

An independent block of springs, each of which is hidden in an individual case, is also covered along the contour with a metal restrictive tie. It does not interfere with the work of the spirals in compression, but does not allow them to creep apart under load. A fairly thick polyurethane box serves the same purpose.

Thin layers of sisal and coconut coir are laid on top of the spring block. Their main task is to separate the steel spirals from the soft top filler. Its role is played by relief-cut polyurethane foam, which creates a pleasant massage effect during sleep.

The mattress has a height of 23 cm and is covered with a dense cover made of synthetic fabric with the addition of cotton. Thanks to the zipper, it is removable for cleaning. A special shampoo for upholstered furniture is suitable for this, but it cannot be washed. The model with an independent block is ideal for married couples.

Ikea Innerlig (Innerlig)

Growing children's mattress

Innerlig is designed specifically for IKEA extendable beds, which “grow” with the child. The mattress can be extended using two additional sections that come included.

Reasons to buy:

  • possibility to increase length;
  • The removable cover is machine washable;
  • polyurethane box around the perimeter;
  • safe lightning.

The basis of the children's mattress is a block of shortened steel Bonnel springs. Due to their low height, they provide more rigid spinal support needed by a growing child. The block is lined with felt and covered with a layer of polyurethane foam for greater comfort.

The length of the mattress itself is 130 cm, but by inserting additional blocks at the foot, it can be increased first to 165, and then to a completely “adult” 200 cm. You can buy such a mattress for a preschooler, and it will easily serve him until adolescence.

By the way, additional pillows no longer contain spring filler - only polyurethane foam. But they have Velcro on the ends, allowing you to securely fix the extended length.

The mattress cover is made of mixed fabric with an increased percentage of cotton. Under it there is another one - non-removable, making it easier to pull on the mattress cover after washing. To protect the filling from curious children, and the little ones themselves from injury, the zipper slider does not have a tongue. To remove the cover, you can use a straightened paper clip.

Ikea Hamarvik (Hamarvik)

Hard mattress with bonnel springs

A one-sided mattress with a dependent spring block is suitable for teenagers and adults of average weight.

Reasons to buy:

  • good air circulation;
  • does not require turning over;
  • the springs are not felt;
  • Possibility of obtaining a warranty of up to 25 years.

Thanks to the use of Bonnell springs, the mattress turned out to be quite cheap. Despite this design, due to the high rigidity of the sides, the hammock effect does not occur here (if you do not exceed the recommended load of 100 kg).

A dense layer of polyester felt is laid on top of the spring block, and already above it is a rather thick polyurethane foam with a density of 25 kg/m3. The top layer increases the comfort of the sleeping place, but does not reduce the supporting ability of the spring mattress.

The cover of the one-sided product is sewn from three types of fabric. In the upper part there are more polyester fibers than cotton, which increases the material's resistance to wear. In addition, it is quite “tenacious”, so the sheets do not slide off it. The perimeter is lined with fabric, where there is more cotton - this is necessary for better breathability. From below comes 100% PE.

Ikea Tussoy

Instead of a topper

For a classic topper, Tussoy is, of course, a bit thick (8 cm), but the manufacturer also positions this model as a thin mattress. An excellent option for increasing the comfort of a sleeping place.

Reasons to buy:

  • good density and support;
  • shape memory effect;
  • The cover is machine washable;
  • rolls up.

An excellent springless mattress is a polyurethane memory foam block. This material takes on and “remembers” its body shape when exposed to human heat, so in a cool room the foam will take some time to do this.

The density of the filler is quite high for IKEA mattresses - 50 kg/m3. This ensures good support during sleep. But the softness is also preserved, for which, in fact, this topper is taken. The model is enclosed in a fabric cover with a zipper, which can be washed at 60°.

Ikea Jomna

The best inexpensive mattress

One of the cheapest IKEA mattresses turned out to be extremely successful. Moderate hardness and fairly dense filling make it a suitable option for people without special requirements for a sleeping place.

Reasons to buy:

  • both sides can be used;
  • surface with a massage effect;
  • rolls up;
  • zippered cover;
  • very low price.

The single-layer polyurethane foam mattress has medium hardness. The foam block is smooth on one side and has a pronounced relief on the other, creating the effect of a light massage during sleep.

The 10 cm thick model is wrapped in a polyester case - by the way, it’s quite thin. The density of the filler is enough so that you don’t feel the slatted bottom of the slatted bed through it.

Spring mattress for bed

It is based on springs, which can be arranged in different ways.

  • If by design they are tightly linked to each other, then they are directly dependent on each other. Such a mattress is pressed under the weight of the user, forming something like a hammock. The supporting effect is low. This is a simpler option, so it's cheaper.
  • The composition of independent springs has orthopedic properties. Each is in a separate case and reacts to a person’s weight individually, creating support for the natural curves of the spine or cervical region and for the joints. The mattress seems to adapt to the body, bending in accordance with the pressure exerted on it. This is one of the best options for modern IKEA beds.

Leaders

Have you already got an idea about the best and trouble-free mattresses?

Hamarvik, Hetlevik, Moshult avoided any negativity directed at them.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to immediately understand whether this or that model is right for you, even if you lie on the chosen mattress for half a day in the store. We can only say one thing: all Ikea mattresses are of high quality, but in order to avoid suffering and disappointment, you need to choose a model that is suitable specifically and exclusively for you. Therefore, just remember about 90 days: you will need much less to understand whether you purchased something or not. And you can always change the model to another. Even if it comes with an additional payment, you will choose it over your aching back? When it comes to delivery, most Ikea mattresses are very convenient - rolled up, they do not require special transport, and you can easily transport the mattress home yourself.

Why do different models have different numbers of springs?

The greater the number of metal cells, the better and more expensive the mattresses . Their number must be at least 250 pieces per 1 sq.m. The uniform distribution of gravity, and therefore the level of comfort, depends on this. Modern mattresses made from blocks of independent springs are suitable for any age.

They provide the opportunity to record the contours of the human body in a physiological state. The diameter of the spring also plays a role. The narrower it is, the less the bed oscillates and the more pressure is distributed.

Advantages and disadvantages

Let's figure out what materials the Bedinge mattress is made of. Polyester wadding and non-woven polypropylene are environmentally friendly materials made from polymer fibers. They are easy to wash, do not mold and are lightweight. Together with polyurethane foam filling, such materials make it easy to use the mattress not only for you, but also for your children. Upholstery fabric contains cotton, a classic fabric material with recognized advantages, pleasant to the touch, and polyester, a more modern material with a huge number of positive properties. Stains from such a mattress can be easily removed with a warm soapy solution. Even if you have pets in your home, you have nothing to fear - the fabric perfectly resists any stains and is easy to clean from stains and hair.

It is important to note that for all its practicality, the Beddinge mattress consists of environmentally friendly materials that do not harm your health.

What are springless models made of?

They are based on a monoblock with a porous structure, which contains homogeneous or composite materials: coconut flakes, latex, felt. The best mattress support is a solid latex layer.

A product made of natural foam rubber seems to envelop the shape of the human body. It is characterized by elasticity, softness, and durability, so its price is quite high.

Artificial latex (vacuum product) is a material of medium hardness or hard. Coconut filler is natural coconut fiber, compressed, bonded, and has a coarse structure. Most often, a mixture of rubber and various additives is used.

What is polyurethane foam

One of the main floorings is polyurethane foam, a type of artificial latex. It is characterized by reliability, good breathability and the ability to hold a lot of weight. The higher its density, the longer the service life, and the greater the weight it is designed for.

Polyurethane foam is one of the most popular fillers. Used in both spring and springless versions. The first feels like medium soft flooring, the second feels like medium to strong hardness.

Customer Reviews

Method

Our research is based on 117 reviews from real Ikea mattress owners, collected from various sources. We do not represent the interests of any of the companies and do not receive compensation. The data presented in the article refers to orthopedic mattresses with an independent spring block.

pros

The lowest price among orthopedic mattresses.

There are a number of reviews about the positive effects on the spine and neck.

Minuses

Ikea mattresses are the leader in the number of negative reviews. Buyers are mostly dissatisfied with the quality and fragility of mattresses

Quite a large number of consumers complain about the poor quality of spring blocks, noting the following disadvantages:

  • Subsidence of springs (pits and bumps are formed).
  • Discomfortable sensations (springs bulge, felt when lying down).
  • Damage to the fabric (hard springs break through the covers and filling, literally digging into the body).

Another disadvantage is the presence of a pronounced chemical odor. According to the data, it is considered normal within 10-14 days after purchase. Some Ikea products had to be aired for a month or placed on the balcony.

As for the benefits for the spine and neck, opinions are divided. For some, the mattress relieves pain and promotes good health; for others, on the contrary, excessive softness causes dizziness and discomfort in the back.

Ikea mattresses are not suitable for partners with a significant difference in weight - the design transfers the slightest vibrations from one sleeper to the other (typical of Bonnell dependent spring blocks).

Allergy sufferers also need to be careful - the synthetic materials used can provoke an exacerbation.

Otherwise, the product is fully consistent with its price category.

Specialized Ikea stores can be found only in large cities of Russia; some intermediary companies also deliver to regions (usually at a slightly higher price).

How to choose a mattress size and its firmness

There are models for children, single, one-and-a-half and two-bedrooms. The length should exceed the person’s height by 15-20 cm. A comfortable width is at least 80 cm. When choosing hardness, one of the criteria is the user’s weight.

Up to 55 kg - soft ones are preferred, up to 90 kg - medium ones, and for more obese people - hard ones. For people over 100 kg, the choice should be a filler in which coconut alternates with latex and felt.

If a married couple differs greatly in build, it is better to buy a latex mattress, it completely eliminates the difference in weight, or a product with two different spring blocks.

For young people under 25 years of age, it is more useful to choose springless models based on coconut fiber. A hard base is recommended for young children.

These Swedish mattresses are popular because they are inexpensive and comfortable.

If before you didn’t think about what exactly you sleep on, now you will see that the mattresses from the catalog are divided into three types:

  • polyurethane foam,
  • spring,
  • latex.

Each person is a bright individual, differing from everyone else even in their “way of sleeping” - which is why it is important to familiarize yourself with all the options and choose the one that suits you. Even mattresses of the same model differ in hardness - some can sleep even on the ground, like Julius Caesar, while others can sleep like the princess and the pea...

The warranty on any of them is a whole year, even if the packaging is torn off and thrown away and the mattress is assembled. But keep in mind: if the mattress is completely “killed”, that is, you slept on it for a year and suddenly decided to exchange it for a new one, this number will not work with Ikea.

You have 90 days to decide whether the purchase is suitable or not. In three months, it’s quite possible to notice everything that would serve as a reason to return it or exchange it for another? Please note that this rule does not work in three cases - if you bought:

  • Yomna series mattress,
  • thin,
  • children's

How does hardness affect your health?

Excessive softness does not provide support for the back; the load on the body can be severe. The spine will bend too much, this will lead to muscle strain. On a very hard surface, the blood vessels are pinched and the body swells.

This type of mattress does not promote even weight distribution in the shoulders and hips. The problem of the spine is aggravated by both too soft and too hard beds. Medium and elastic ones create optimal support and have special comfort zones in the shoulders and hips.

Sofa bed

In addition to mattresses, the Bedinge line from IKEA also includes sofa beds. The sofa is lightweight, which allows you to independently deliver your purchase from the IKEA store to your home in your personal car, without the help of professional loaders, which further saves your time and money. The sofa has a presentable appearance and can decorate a living room or bedroom, adding coziness and life to the room. It easily folds out into a full double bed and is just as easy to put back together. Agree, it’s convenient to have one piece of furniture for all occasions. It is comfortable to sit and lie on thanks to the comfortable and lightweight bed made of environmentally friendly materials. The internal elements and frames of Beddinge sofas are made of lightweight and durable materials and will serve you faithfully for many years.

Double-sided mattresses are a solution for those who prefer change

A combined double-sided mattress has a warm surface on one side, a cold surface on the other, and a soft and hard surface on the other. You can turn it over depending on the time of year, choose warming in winter, and cool in summer.

In order to strengthen the spine, the hard side is used, and the soft side is used for blood supply. It is profitable and useful to purchase such a mattress for children.

Until the age of three, you need to use it on the side of the solid base, and then on the opposite side. To prevent the mattress from getting dirty longer, you should purchase a removable cover that can be washed periodically.

They gave us papers with a guarantee and by the way, we installed everything ourselves. In my opinion, the mattresses at IKEA are not very good. I looked in the store where copies were presented and, frankly speaking, they are very far from ideal. I can speak about this with confidence, since over the course of several years I have bought several mattresses for both children and myself and relatives. A high-quality mattress is expensive, IKEA, of course, doesn’t charge a lot of money, but the quality of the product is really not very good, but they are definitely average.

My husband and I bought mattresses from IKEA - and you know, it’s just some kind of nightmare. Visually and initially they look very good, but in fact they are not very good. A recess appeared in one of the mattresses and over time it only grew larger. and on the second it was frayed and spoiled. To be honest, I was hoping for better quality when we ordered them. IKEA furniture is simply excellent, but unfortunately the mattresses...

I don’t know, we haven’t bought anything from IKEA yet. Can you advise which model? We need a good one, one that doesn’t fail for a long time and is of high quality. I read here that the mattresses are not very good, but their furniture is good. Who has been using it for at least two years as a mattress?

In general, a mattress is an individual thing.
Height, width, spring/non-spring and so on. There are a lot of characteristics for each type of mattress, and it is best for you to consult directly with managers from IKEA Here are some of the most popular models of mattresses from IKEA: IKEA MALFORS IKEA Hyllestad IKEA HOVAG IKEA HAFSLO IKEA INNERLIG IKEA MALVIK IKEA LYCKSELE IKEA OMSINT IKEA HAMARVIK

Features of choice

IKEA does not have a traditional division into series, since the company is not directly involved in the production of mattresses. All models presented for sale are manufactured at Ascona's own factories.

However, the assortment includes separate categories of products, which will simplify the selection of a suitable accessory:

Bonnel spring mattresses

Quite affordable models for people with average body weight. This category of mattresses is more suitable for equipping single or semi-size beds, since spring blocks transmit movement over the entire surface. The range includes both adult and children's models.

Mattresses with independent spring blocks

They have good orthopedic properties and can withstand increased loads. The optimal choice for married couples (including those with differences in weight), as well as for people with back or joint problems. It is these models that in most cases are covered by the store’s extended warranty.

Springless mattresses

IKEA offers springless mattresses made from artificial latex (polyurethane foam). As a rule, they have a relief surface of the working layer, which should create some massage effect.

There are also options lined with a layer of memory foam. They are suitable for older people and those who suffer from swelling or poor circulation. On such mattresses, the response pressure of the bed on the body is minimal, and there will be no feeling of numb limbs.

Thin mattresses

They are a separate category, but they are made according to the same principle as springless ones. They differ only in thickness (from 1 to 8 cm) and softness. They are used as toppers to level out unevenness in the bed and soften it.

Mattresses for children's beds

IKEA has spring and springless mattresses for newborns and older children. Models for cribs can be considered for purchase only in one case - if you are going to additionally lay a stiffer topper. The polyurethane used here will not provide adequate support for the baby's weak spine.

But for older guys there are really good mattresses. It’s especially worth taking a closer look at mattresses with additional blocks for those who have already bought a pull-out bed for their children’s room at Ikea.

In the IKEA assortment, almost all mattresses are declared as hard or very hard. But in fact they turn out to be somewhat softer than you might expect - take this into account when ordering online.

If you make a purchase directly from a store, test the mattresses you like - lie on each one for a few minutes in different positions. It’s only better that there are no mattress covers on the bed. And remember that exhibition copies, after numerous checks by buyers, partially lose their original rigidity.
