Types of hooks for curtains and curtains: how to make them yourself

Innovative technologies involved in the production of windows have contributed to the fact that the product has become flawless and reliable. Due to this, the protective functions of curtains and drapes have lost their significance. They were replaced by a decorative component. The correct choice of textile accessories allows you to add harmony to the room, fill it with coziness and comfort.

The design of a window opening cannot be realized without the use of various fittings.

There are many types of curtains and curtains - with heavy drapery, multi-layered or airy, roller or classic. Therefore, today the question is more relevant than ever: what do curtains hang on?

Window decoration with curtains

The decor of a window opening cannot be decorated without the use of various fittings. Modern methods of fixing the canvas on the cornice are extremely diverse - all elements have advantages and disadvantages. So what is the name of the item and what are the curtains hung on?

Modern options for fixing curtains on cornices are very diverse.

The item that is responsible for fixing the curtain rod to the curtain rod is called a hook. These are the most cost-effective fastening options and are easy to use. Such elements are an ideal option for fixing thin and light matter.

The most common are universal hooks, which are very easy to use. This fittings have aesthetic and functional qualities.

INTERESTING! Curtain hooks can be used for flat curtain rods. It is important to secure them well on both sides, so they will not fall out during use.

There is another type of decorative elements - special holders. They are used together with curtain tiebacks and secure the curtain on both sides. This creates a beautiful drapery.

Curtain holders allow you to make the appearance of a window opening more stylish and original.

Fastening elements are sold separately, that is, 1 piece each; sometimes you can find curtain tape with hooks on it. Such an accessory can be sewn to the canvas without much difficulty. All clamps are securely attached to the string and do not slip off. They are characterized by versatility, as they are ideal for all existing types of cornices.

Hooks are often sold one at a time or in dozens, but you can always purchase ready-made tape with hooks already attached to it.

It is necessary to select decorative fittings based on the assumption that they will last a long time and reliably. The options depend on the design of the cornice, for example, hooks with rings are suitable for round ones, plastic hooks with a wheel are suitable for baguettes. In most cases, such elements are not noticeable and therefore do not affect the overall impression of the interior.

Modern curtain rods are not inferior in importance to decoration and furniture.

Based on their design, they are divided into these types of curtain hooks.

  1. Decorative look. Designed to decorate the entire window composition, as they have an interesting design and attractive appearance.
  2. Hidden type. They are made from various materials - plastic, steel and other varieties. The main characteristic is to hide the mount from prying eyes; most often it is hidden under a decorative console or in the folds of a curtain.
  3. Transitional products. Such fasteners help connect hinges, eyelets, clips and cornices. At the bottom there is a clothespin that secures the material, and at the top there is a hook with a ring.
  4. Basic. These are independent fasteners that do not require additional elements;
  5. Closed variation. They snap onto the cornice structure and can be easily transported along the rod during operation.
  6. Open. The fittings easily fit on the curtain rod; they can be easily attached to the eyelets on curtains or curtains. If necessary, you can remove the canvas without dismantling the cornice.

    You need to figure out what kind of hooks there are for curtains, heavy drapes and thin transparent curtains in the bathroom.

Disc holders

Figure 2. For decoration, you first need to wrap the bead with tape, then take the end of the thread and fix it on the tape at the top of the bead, additionally fixing it with glue. The first version of the holders is based on the most ordinary computer disks. These elements are completely suitable for any style of curtains at any height ceilings and room volume.

It is only important to choose the right color scheme. So, for work you need: two standard computer disks; silicone transparent glue; pencil; compasses; scissors; satin ribbon in the curtains or in contrast with them (to end up with a good combination); two Chinese sticks; plain paper; additional small elements for finishing (optional). So, let's get to work. First you need to place a sheet of paper on a flat, hard surface and place the disk on it.

You need to trace the outline of the disk with a pencil. After this, remove the disk, and start drawing a new inner circle in the circle on paper. Please note that it should be positioned so that it is halfway between the edges of the main outline and the inner small circle. The circle is drawn using a compass. After this, you need to cut a disk out of paper along the contour, and cut out the middle in it along the line that was just drawn with a compass.

Next, this blank is applied as evenly as possible to the disk itself, on which the outline of the inner circle is drawn using a marker. It is along this boundary that you will need to remove the middle of the disk, as has already been done on paper. The same must be done with the other disk. Next, you need to cut out the centers from the disks, you can do this with a sharp knife, or you can do it easier - just burn the contour inside with a soldering iron, after which it will fall out on its own.

The bases for the holders are ready! Now let's start decorating them. To do this, a little glue is dripped on both sides of the disk along its surface, and after that a tape is applied, only a little obliquely, so that in the end it turns out to beautifully wrap the entire base. At the end, we additionally fix the tip with glue. Similar operations are performed with the second disk.

Figure 3. When you reach the back edge of the bead, secure the other end of the tail there tightly with glue and cut the thread. So, now we move on to the sticks.

There are two options: you can leave them as they are, or you can also wrap them with tape. Alternatively, the sticks can simply be painted with transparent or colored varnish. The round base itself can also be additionally decorated with all kinds of beads, butterflies, and sparkles, which are attached with glue. Here everything will depend personally on your imagination. To use such holders, you simply need to insert the curtain into the disk from under the bottom, and then fix it at the desired desired height by passing a stick under the fabric so that it rests on the other side of the disk, and its middle was covered with a curtain (Fig. 1). Return to contents The second option for do-it-yourself curtain tiebacks is based on wooden beads.

Figure 4. To string beads onto a ribbon, you need to thread a strong thread into a gypsy needle, make a knot, and then fix the thread on the ribbon. This is also a completely economical and accessible decor option, which is absolutely easy to do with your own hands if you stock up on the necessary materials in advance work: wooden beads of any size (about 14 pieces); scissors; transparent silicone glue; gypsy needle; satin ribbon; beautiful silk threads like “Iris”; strong thread; double-sided tape. Return to contents So, let's get to work! First we work with beads. It will be necessary to completely cover their surface with Iris threads so that only the holes remain free. To do this, you need to use double-sided tape and glue.

So, you need to first wrap the bead with tape, then take the tip of the thread and fix it on the tape at the top of the bead, additionally fixing it with glue. Next, the thread is wound tightly around the bead so that the wood is not visible. Again, if necessary, in those places where the fit is not tight enough, you can use glue, only in a very small amount. The work will look something like this (Fig.

2).When you reach the back edge of the bead, firmly fix the other end of the tail there with glue and cut the thread. The finished bead will look something like this (Fig. 3). In the same way you need to decorate all the remaining beads. Return to contents

Figure 5. The length of the ribbon and the fixing moments are selected so that in the end the ribbon is enough to wrap around the curtain. Next, you need to wait until the threads with beads finally grab each other, and then proceed to the next stage of work. It consists of stringing the beads onto the ribbon .

To do this, you need to thread a strong thread into a gypsy needle, make a knot, and then fix the thread on the ribbon, as when sewing (Fig. 4). After this, you need to use a needle to thread 7 beads through the ribbon. Then it is advisable to fix the ribbon in the places of the outer beads so that they do not fall apart.

The remaining piece of tape must be cut off. In this case, the length of the tape and the fixing moments are selected so that in the end the tape is enough to wrap around the curtain (Fig. 5). Similar work is done for the second pick-up. All you have to do is burn it a little or cover the cut ends of the tape with transparent varnish so that they do not separate into individual fibers.

This tie is placed on the curtain and secured by tying it with a regular bow. The holders are ready! So, two options for curtain ties that you can make with your own hands have been considered. As you have already seen for yourself, these options are very inexpensive and simple, so even a schoolchild can make them.

But originality and beauty will be guaranteed to you! “Kvartblog” continues to guard the originality of your home. Let's figure out what we can use to make unusual and funny curtain tiebacks. 1. Our girl editors liked the first idea the most. She is simple, sweet and elegant.

And besides, it allows you not only to decorate and secure the curtains, but also not to lose your decorations around the house. An excellent idea for women’s and family interiors are tiebacks made from bracelets and beads. Particularly suitable are those models in which the beads are strung on an elastic band. In this case, you don’t even have to nail hooks to the wall on which these strings of pearls and gems will be hung.

Types of hooks

Selecting exquisite fittings for a living space is not easy. Expensive and exclusive curtains can ruin the design if the wrong fasteners were purchased. In order to choose and purchase the ideal options, you need to understand what other hooks there are for curtains and curtains.

  • Products made of plastic and metal. Plastic curtain hooks are inexpensive and high-quality options. But they are not suitable for bulky and heavy fabrics, as well as for the curtain look. Their advantage is their silent movement along the cornice during the process of closing the curtain. Metal can be represented by aluminum and brass. If you purchase a product that is not of very high quality, there is a possibility that dark spots and traces of rust will form on the fabric.

Such accessories will perfectly cope with heavy fabric and multi-layered types.

  • Hooks for light tulle. In most cases, this is colorless plastic, which is not noticeable under transparent tulle. A special feature of the product is that it can withstand extremely light and airy materials, since thin plastic is used.

Most elements made from such material are hidden because they are not particularly attractive.

  • Products containing clamps or clips. The most common combination is plastic and iron base. The clamping structure is represented by two planes. They secure the curtain, but are not designed to hold heavy weight.

    There is a huge selection of clamps on the market, for example, all-steel, serrated, crab (crocodile) clamps.

  • Metal-based curtain rod hooks are more expensive, but can last for many years. The products are not capable of being damaged during active work, and also securely fix the fabric.

The strength of such a product is significantly higher than that of plastic ones, but the actual service life is determined by the specific material.

Types of assembly and decor options

If you want to decorate the interior and emphasize its individuality, then you should turn to elegant tulle with drapery. You can tie or fold the fabric in an original way, and as a result you will get a truly beautiful thing that will attract attention.

There are three types of fabric drapery:

  • One-sided. In this case, the material is laid in one specific direction.
  • Counter. For this drapery, folds of material are laid towards each other.
  • Bow. This drapery is performed in exactly the same way as the counter one, but is turned from the opposite side.

You can use special magnets to drape fabrics. With these details, tulle can be given a very elegant and attractive shape. For example, to refresh the interior, you should carefully pick up the curtains with a beautiful magnet with shiny stones or a bright hairpin.

You can tie the material on top or on both sides. This simple technique will make the tulle more magnificent and elegant.

Hairpins and magnets can be simple and plain or decorated with multi-colored stones, beads, contrasting patterns, flowers, and so on. Such elements are small, but with their help you can transform tulle, making it truly luxurious.

Tulle has been a popular and indispensable material in interior design, in particular window structures, for many years. By decorating a window with tulle, you can be sure that the room will become much lighter, and the interior will become attractive and bright. Although there are styles in interior design that do not involve the use of window decor.

Since incorrectly hung fabric will create an ambiguous feeling of unfinished, it is very important to know how to hang tulle correctly to fill the room with homeliness and sophistication. We will talk about this during the article.

How to hang curtains on hooks?

You can hang curtains in different ways, the main thing is to take into account the type of structure. There are the following types of cornices for using hooks:

  • forged;
  • ceiling;
  • strings;
  • aluminum;
  • slats of different samples. In this case, the housewife will need to use hooks for curtains and curtains of the old or new type;
  • bay windows.

Curtain hooks are the most popular method of fixing curtains to the ceiling. Such products are attached to a wheel or act as an independent element.

The fittings can be made of brass, aluminum, steel.

The most common combination is with profile cornices. They are characterized by wall and ceiling fixation. Can also be used for string structures and round models.

For heavy fabrics, large thick rings with metal hooks are recommended.

Fastening the canvas with tape occurs without much difficulty. A ribbon containing two rows of dense and durable threads is sewn along the edge of the curtain. These will be loops; hooks for curtain tapes are hidden behind the folds. Since the braid tightens the fabric, beautiful folds with vertical placement will be created.

With this solution to the issue of fixing curtains, you make your task much easier, because... you don't have to make loops.

Ceiling types of cornices are presented in the form of a tire. For such models, hooks with additional rollers are suitable. This method is the only one possible for this type of construction.

Loops will not slip off hooks of this type, so you don’t have to be afraid to move the curtains in the right direction.

If you want to securely secure decorative fittings, it is better to sew them to the fabric. Subsequently, the canvas must be cleaned along with the hooks. The plastic component will not be damaged, since water does not have a negative effect on this material. We recommend not attaching metal accessories to the fabric, because when exposed to liquid, rust may appear on them and transfer to the fabric.

To wash these curtains, you will not need to pull out the string, but hanging the curtains one loop at a time will take a very long time.

For beautiful drapery, it is necessary to maintain the correct distance between elements. This step should be about ten centimeters. From experience, the greater the distance, the more expressive the fold will be. Conversely, smaller steps can create a narrower vertical fold.

If the curtains are fixed directly to the curtain rod, the hooks should be light and slide well.

ATTENTION! It is not recommended to hang curtains on holders, which are located extremely rarely. The material will look ugly and sloppy.

Interesting examples in the interior

Today, stores offer a huge selection of hooks for every taste, so any average person can afford to purchase the right number of hooks to beautifully place curtains in their home.

Metal hooks are extremely popular today - they are not hidden from view, they are used to stylishly decorate a room and give it a special flavor.

Interesting features of correct fixation.

  1. For an arched window, you can attach curtains and curtains without a cornice. This method is very popular among modern interior designers. To do this, you need to install decorative hooks above the oval opening at the correct distance from each other. Then the loops on the canvas are fixed to fasteners at different heights. This option is characterized by reliability, so it will withstand even heavy multi-layer fabrics. Thus, the housewife does not need to think about the curtain profile.
  2. The amount of decorative fittings is calculated based on the optimal distance and parameters of the cornice for the suspended ceiling. We also advise you to take into account the weight and quality of the curtain or curtain fabric.

    Heavy curtains require an increased number of fasteners.

  3. You can hang the canvas evenly by first placing it on hooks. After this, it is possible to place it on a cornice, for example, a ceiling type.
  4. We recommend securing the center and edges of the curtain first. Then divide the sections into two equal parts and place the fastener. In this way, you can evenly apply the fixatives along the length of the material. After this, secure the edges of the cornice so that the fittings do not slip off during the curtaining process.

    Metal-plastic is the most suitable material in terms of cost and quality.

Accessories for window decoration

The fittings directly depend on the chosen cornice. If the room has ceiling, baguette or profile cornices, you need to know how to hang tulle on a ribbon. To hang fabric on a rod curtain rod, you need to purchase rings and clips. The decision to use eyelets will turn out to be trendy. Recently, this option has become the most popular and frequently used.

Decorative elements are an integral part of the interior, which emphasizes all the splendor of the fabric, highlights the advantages and fixes the folds. Decorative elements include:

What nuances to pay attention to when choosing

When choosing hooks for curtains and drapes, you need to take into account their compliance:

  • weight of the curtain composition;
  • frequency of its operation (moving or hanging stationary);
  • design of curtains and interior in general;
  • loop size;
  • type of cornice.

Thus, before hanging curtains, you should first find out how long they will last without breaking or deforming and securely holding the curtains in the required position. In addition, you must take into account the type of cornice. For example, products attached to rings are perfect for round cornices, while bohemian consoles are best complemented with plastic hooks, which are designed for curtains with rollers.

There is no need to save on curtain accessories unless absolutely necessary. It would seem that fastening is a trifle, but it can also nullify all efforts to create a harmonious environment. Therefore, despite the fact that hooks are very convenient and versatile, before choosing them or any other method of hanging curtains on a cornice, you need to think through the entire design of the curtain composition and its compliance with the overall style of the interior.

Useful tips for organizing window decor

To figure out how to hang tulle, you should use the following tips:

  1. First you need to distribute the hooks, the same number for each curtain.
  2. Then attach the fabric with the outer loops to the outer hooks.
  3. Next, we attach the central loop to the central hook. Thus, you will get two canvases, attached to the outer and central loops.
  4. We take the middle hook on the cornice and hook the central loop onto it.
  5. We fasten all the following loops in the same way.

A little imagination and the desire to decorate your home will be the main components of a positive result. Even the simplest and at first glance completely unremarkable tulle, if handled correctly, will decorate any room. The most important thing is to know how to hang tulle and how to properly care for it. Only in this case can you achieve a positive result in the design of windows and balcony openings.

Tulle has been the most popular material in interior design for many years. The fabric and accessories market is full of variety, and new trends appear every year. But at the same time, beautiful material does not guarantee that the image will be complete. You need to combine the tulle correctly to make the room sparkle with new colors.

The art of drapery

Drapery - one-sided, counter or bow folds on the curtain. Few folds are made on thick tulle, and thin fabric is draped with frequent and narrow folds, and work done by hand lasts longer.

More: Fashionable prints in the interior

Using tiebacks, staples, rings, and sometimes thread, horizontal and vertical draperies of bizarre shapes are created.

Tip: when planning drapery, you will need to take fabric 1.5-3 times wider than the length of the cornice and purchase a special ribbon with loops in 2-3 rows.

To drape the bottom of a light curtain, the edge is raised in 1-3 places to the desired height and fastened to the canvas.

To create a classic wave, 1-2 sags are formed on the inner edge of the curtain.

If you intercept the middle of the curtain or the top and bottom, you will get an elegant “column” or “vase”.

By draping in one-way folds, the vertical waves of the fabric are laid to one side.

To create counter folds, every two folds face each other.

Bow folds are formed by folding two folds inward from the outer sides.

Distributing the fabric in uniform vertical ridges, the curtain is decorated with pencil folds.

Complex Flemish folds. A braid with two rows of loops is taken and the upper and lower threads are simultaneously pulled together, creating a knot similar to a V. The bottom of the resulting fold is strongly pulled together, maintaining the expressiveness of the upper gather.

The weighted bottom of the curtains will help maintain drapery.

For this use:

  • weight tape;
  • embroidery at the bottom of the curtain with rhinestones, threads, sequins or beads;
  • lace inserts.

Eyelets

Curtains with large eyelets do not require hooks or curtain tapes

Grommets are special rings that allow you to attach curtains to the curtain rod.

Curtains attached to grommets are one of the most exclusive and stylish mounting options (photo). The eyelets themselves are plastic or metal rings. However, do not confuse this option with curtains with rings. These fastening methods differ in that the eyelets are inserted directly into the fabric. Curtains secured in this way are almost impossible to tear off. In addition, externally the design with eyelets looks very expensive and impressive.

Eyelets are not used for tulle and other light fabrics

Advice! Designers advise choosing the color and texture of the eyelets to match the style of the cornice. They must be at least in an identical color scheme.

It is very convenient to use the fabric on the eyelets: it glides gently along the sides, thereby forming elegant voluminous folds, equidistant from each other.

Each of the mounting options is compatible with a certain type of curtains, so an incorrectly selected fastening can give attractive curtains a slight dissonance and disrupt the entire style composition

Below are the advantages of grommet fastening:

  • luxurious appearance;
  • comfortable operation, curtains are convenient to hang and remove;
  • smooth, beautiful drapery;
  • harmoniously combine with different designs of drapes, curtains, curtains.

Eyelets are a self-sufficient decorative element that will allow you to subtly highlight the beauty of the curtain

However, fastening with grommets has certain disadvantages:

  • if we compare all the methods of attaching curtains, then this is the most expensive;
  • not suitable for thin, weightless fabrics such as tulle, as well as for roller blinds and Roman blinds.

The eyelets look impressive, slide easily along the “pipe” cornice, and are suitable for many types of curtains, including drapes

Mounting with cornice

There are many different types of attaching curtains to the curtain rod. Let's look at the common ones.

  1. On the drawstring. It is presented in the form of a pocket for curtains. A pipe or cornice passes through it. This method allows you to hide the fastening itself, so the curtains are almost invisible.
  2. Velcro. Used if you plan to statically fasten the curtains to the mount. If such Velcro is used for loops, then it is possible to move the canvas if necessary.
  3. On the eyelets. Rings that are sewn directly into the fabric. The holes are threaded into the curtain. This is the most reliable and aesthetically attractive way. They can withstand more loads and are therefore extremely durable.
  4. On the rings. Classic option. It consists of rings with small clips onto which fabrics are placed. Able to withstand quite a decent weight. Most often, rings are used in a Techno style room, but you can also find them in a classic interior.
  5. On hinges. A practical option. Very convenient, as it allows you to attach almost any type of fabric. Looks good in the kitchen. The loops are suitable for all types of curtains. Such fastening can be found even on Japanese and Roman models.
  6. Magnets. The canvas is clamped between magnetic latches. Recommended for use with lightweight fabrics only.
  7. Braid. It is a loop row. You can adjust the length of the structure, as well as the depth of the wave.
  8. Ribbons. A universal remedy. Suitable for attaching curtains to hooks. The ribbons are almost invisible and allow you to create drapery.
  9. Hooks. Inexpensive and simple option. Among the assortment, French hooks in the shape of snails should be highlighted. They are used for lightweight materials.
  10. Pin. Traditional option. Allows you to adjust the length and level of folds. Suitable for any room. These fasteners make it easy to remove and hang curtains, change their length and give folds of fabric the desired shape.
  11. Ties. You can do it yourself. It is a decorative element recommended for use on lighter fabric materials.

Classification

Curtain and curtain hooks for wall and ceiling cornices are distinguished by material of manufacture and design. For their manufacture use:

Plastic options are suitable for light and medium weight curtains. In addition to the most affordable price among products of this type, they have another undoubted advantage - noiselessness when moving along the ledge. But over time, plastic hooks wear out and lose their shape, which entails a violation of the overall composition. This is caused by the curtains sliding off their hinges due to deformation of the hooks.

Hooks for curtains in the bathroom can be chosen either plastic or metal-plastic, or metal, chrome-plated on the outside, as in the photo below.

Metal curtain hooks are more expensive, but also more reliable. They do not deform during use and firmly fix the curtain fabric, preventing it from sliding down. Their disadvantage is noise. In addition, the characteristics of this fastener very much depend on the quality of the metal. If the fasteners are made from cheap raw materials or with poor technology, over time they will rust and ruin the curtains that are hung on them. It is better to give preference to metal products with anti-corrosion coating.

Metal-plastic is the optimal material in terms of price and quality. It combines the advantages of the two previous types and does not have their disadvantages. Curtain hooks made of metal-plastic are more expensive than plastic products, but cheaper than metal ones, are absolutely silent and keep their shape perfectly throughout their entire service life.

There are different types of curtain hooks depending on their design. They are:

In order not to spoil the presentable appearance of the curtains due to possible deformation or corrosion of the hooks, it is recommended to change them every two years.
