Features and rules for choosing a pull-out bed for two children

Design features of the retractable mechanism

A distinctive feature of the design is the retractable mechanism, thanks to which it is possible to organize an additional sleeping place. The upper tier rises slightly, and you can climb onto it thanks to wide steps. They are often used as additional shelves or drawers.

The steps make it easy to climb to the top tier and look original.

Attention! The retractable design is safer and more stable compared to tiered models.

The retractable mechanism comes in several types:

  • on guides;
  • with wheeled devices;
  • on rails (without them).

Option for a pull-out bed with a mechanism on wheels.
The first option will not be the most suitable for a child, since the lack of wheels and guides rigidly attached to the body limit the functionality of the bed. At the same time, in order to push the lower tier forward, you will have to make a lot of effort. The roller mechanism allows you to avoid such problems, thanks to which the berth can be easily installed in the desired position.

When purchasing such a bed for children, you should pay special attention to the material from which it is made.

Design Features

A small space requires a non-standard approach to choosing furniture. Free space is a necessity for children's rooms due to the activity and mobility of little residents. The pull-out children's bed model is a transformer, allowing you to easily transform a compact product into a full-fledged, spacious sleeping place.

The appearance of such a bed does not differ significantly from the standard options for two children. The difference may be the height of one of the sleeping levels, from below which a second bed with drawers slides in. Sliding rollers make the transformation easy and effortless. Even a child can cope with this task independently.

Pull-out beds for small children of preschool age are equipped with durable and reliable sides, which ensures the proper level of safety while sleeping.

A special feature of the design is that there is no need for reinforcement or balancing; it cannot be loosened or overturned. By giving preference to retractable options with drawers, you can easily choose the appropriate equipment and decorative elements.

Types of pull-out beds for two children

Beds of this type can be divided into several groups:

  • With tied tiers. The lower tier is made over the entire length and width of the product, limited by a retractable mechanism. Such a bed for two children has a significant drawback: the child on the upper tier must step over the sleeping person on the lower level if he wants to go down.

    Option for a crib with attached tiers.

  • Retractable model with separate transformation option. If necessary, the lower tier can be easily pulled out to place it in the most suitable place. The mobility of the product is the main advantage of this type of bed.

    This bed can be divided and placed in a convenient place in the room.

  • An inexpensive option for a bunk bed with a pull-out bed. The model does not have additional shelves and drawers. The upper tier is located at a distance of 10-15 cm from the floor.

    Photo of a budget option for a pull-out bed. It is made without additional cabinets and accessories.

  • With additional drawers. The niche space allows you to place bedding in it. The lower tier turns into a full-fledged sleeping place, located at a sufficient height from the floor.

  • Three-tiered. This model does not provide drawers, but there is an additional mattress. For a large family this is the most suitable option.

Varieties

Pull-out beds can have several modifications, the design of which primarily depends on the number of beds. The main types of models are presented:

  • with fastened tiers. The lower tier is made over the entire width and length of the product and is statically fixed, limited by a retractable mechanism. The classic option for two people has a significant drawback, in which the child sleeping on top is forced to step over the person sleeping below in order to get down;
  • retractable model with the possibility of separate transformation. The lower tier easily extends and moves. A separate bed with a comfortable sleeping area is created. The desired space savings are achieved. There are no disadvantages due to the mobility of the product. The roll-out tier can be installed in any part of the room;
  • budget bunk version with two beds. The product does not have additional parts, cabinets, or shelves. The model is also not equipped with drawers. The height of the second tier from the floor surface is minimal, about 10-15 cm;
  • with a pull-out mechanism and drawers. Spacious niches allow you to store bedding and things. The model is functional and practical. The bed of the lower tier is located at a sufficient height from the floor, after transformation, it becomes a full-fledged sleeping place;
  • three-tier - instead of linen drawers there is another mattress. An excellent option for a large family.

Two-tier
Modern roll-out furniture for two children can be two-tier or three-tier. The main difference between the latter lies in the design features. Instead of being equipped with drawers, the lower tier is occupied by another sleeping place. The three-tier structure is a single unit; the stocks are fixed and not adapted to be detached from the main frame.

Product dimensions

Choosing the appropriate bed size depends on the age of the child and the size of the room. For children under 3 years old, the standard length and width of the product is 120x60 cm, for the age group from 3 to 6 years old - 140x60 cm, for schoolchildren 6-12 years old - 160x80 cm, for teenagers over 12 years old - 190x80 cm.

A pull-out bed will fit well into the interior of a room for teenagers.

Attention! The specified dimensions are required for preschool institutions; in other cases, the dimensions can be selected individually.

Many manufacturers, taking into account customer demand, produce products with a length of 160 cm and a width of 80 cm. However, the sizes can be any; this directly depends on the customer’s preferences.

The dimensions, model and color scheme of the pull-out bed depend on the buyer.

If children's furniture is equipped with sides or rods, then the distance between them should be 2-6 cm. The mattress is located at a depth of 7 cm. The width of the side walls should be 10 cm. Children's pull-out beds for two children will be easy to use if they are of standard sizes.

This bed model is suitable for twins or two small children.

Advantages and disadvantages of pull-out beds

A children's bed with a pull-out design has many advantages, thanks to which two children will be comfortable in the same room. Among the main advantages are:

  • safety;
  • efficiency;
  • ease of operation;
  • practicality;
  • efficiency;
  • saving space in the room;
  • functionality, ergonomics;
  • small sizes;
  • durability;
  • large selection of models.

Pull-out beds for two children have many advantages.
The advantages include the presence of additional lockers and drawers for storing things. This is very important, since systematic arrangement of things develops in the child a desire to maintain cleanliness and order.

Retractable models can be used by children over the age of one and a half years.

On the top tier there are sides that will prevent the baby from falling.

Speaking of disadvantages, here we can only highlight the psychological aspect of discomfort in a child who sleeps on the lower level. Especially if the model is three-tiered. From a practical point of view, it is difficult for a child who sleeps on the top tier to go downstairs. Another drawback is that over time the rollers begin to glide poorly, which can lead to scratches and marks on the floor.

There is a ladder attached to the top crib to make it easier for the child sleeping there to go up and down.

DIY roll-out bed!

Hi all!
I have two boys, they’re a big deal, the eldest is fifteen, the youngest is eight. They live in the same room, although we suggested they go to separate rooms, but they don’t agree. Well, since the layout of the room didn’t allow for two separate beds, and the younger one was whining at night and wanted his older brother’s hand to be nearby to hold on to)), and the older one was looking after him, we bought it at the time on the advert double roll-out wooden bed. This is when one full bed rolls out from under another. While they were not yet so big, the bed somehow managed, but as soon as the boys began to grow in width and height, something more drastic was required!

And I decided to find them a new bed of the same design as they had. But when I got into the topic, I realized that it’s not worth paying for chipboard the price for which you can buy an airplane wing)))

And I thought! What’s stopping me from taking my hands in hand and, having thought about it, I decided that I could handle such a task myself!

I put a simple diagram on a piece of paper, calculated the amount of dry material, ordered it, made it and voila! A roll-out wooden bed that can easily withstand a weight of up to 300 kg and the wild energy of the younger generation is ready!

PS If you're interested, I ordered everything at a hardware store (with the letter P. The one that's Zhzhot)). Everything cost 5665 rubles including delivery. Plus a can of white paint (safe, which can be used in kindergartens), plus two bottles of color, about 200 rubles. Plus 6 wheels for 20 rubles.

Sleeping places for standard mattresses 90x200 (if something happens, I can easily fit there myself))

Material used:

(I found the information in my order history)

  • Dry board st. xv/p.45x145x6000 mm, grade AB - 2 pieces - 783 RUR per piece. (Upper bed frame)
  • Dry steel timber 90x90x6000 mm grade AB glued - 1 piece - 1391 RUR (Went on legs)
  • Dry board st. xv/p.45x195x6000 mm, grade AB - 1 piece - 1053 RUR (lower bed body)
  • Edged board 25x125x6000 mm e/w.xv/p. (grade 1-3 business) - 4 pcs - 168 RUR per pc (Inch gauge for mattress lathing)
  • Dry board st. xv/p.20x120x3000 mm grade AB - 1 piece - 153 RUR per piece (I used it for jumpers between the legs)
  • Plus a block for the sheathing - 4 pieces, 195 mm each (was in stock)

This is, in principle, all the material that was used in the manufacture of two full-fledged beds. You can cut a beam to size for one. Do you need to make a notch?
Easily! A chisel is indispensable when working with wood. Four strong legs are ready. Pre-assembly process. Everything is clear! Block for lamellas Although the material is dry and planed, additional light sanding will not make it any worse. Slightly round the edges. I painted everything with a brush in half an hour. By morning everything was dry. Then the leisurely process of assembling with self-tapping screws began. Ultra-precision is not required in this process)) Everything can be done with gas. The assembly was coming to an end. And bang, everything is ready! Of course, check how the lower bed rolls. It turned out great! Then everything is given into reliable, female hands who know how to put on duvet covers and pillows well)))

Beauty is ready!

Basic rules for choosing material and mattress

To make pull-out beds, both solid wood and other modern materials can be used. On sale you can find models in the following categories:

  • Made from hard wood. The material is strong, durable and environmentally friendly, which makes it a top seller. However, it is worth considering the weight of such a bed, as well as its cost. It is important that the surface is well sanded, so it will be safer for children.
  • The most budget option would be beds made of chipboard or MDF. Laminated types have a longer service life.
  • Combined products, where the frame is made of natural wood, and the flat elements are made of MDF or chipboard. In terms of price, this is the most affordable option, and this also applies to models with a metal frame.

Pull-out beds are considered functional and spacious. They help save room space.

Attention! You should be very careful when choosing models made of metal and polymer, since strength can only be guaranteed if they are of high quality.

Particular attention is paid to the material from which the bed base is made. Due to poor ventilation of the mattress, a blind and closed base made of chipboard would not be the best option. This can also negatively affect the condition of the child’s spine. Plastic slats may not withstand heavy loads. But wide wooden slats are an excellent option.

A bed with a trundle mechanism on wheels is suitable for a room that does not have carpeting.

A mattress for a pull-out children's bed should be of medium or high hardness; springs are not recommended. There are mainly 2 types of mattresses:

  1. Anatomical – the child sleeps comfortably because the mattress takes the shape of his body.
  2. Orthopedic - despite the rigidity, this is the safest option for health.

If a child has a spinal disease or poor posture, it is better to choose an orthopedic mattress.

The standard mattress depth is from 5 to 13 cm. The thickness for the upper tier may vary. The choice for the lower tier should be based on the height of the retractable part.

Attention! It is recommended to choose a mattress whose height is 5 cm higher than the top edge of the bed.

It is best to choose mattresses filled with materials: coconut fibers, bamboo, latex, polyurethane foam.

An orthopedic mattress has a beneficial effect on a child’s sleep and posture.

Types of materials

Modern retractable models are presented in a huge range of types. Most often, a combination of two or more materials is used to make beds. The frame can be metal or wood. Natural timber or boards are used as the base.

The remaining parts of the bed can be made of MDF, chipboard, plywood. A high-quality coating will reliably protect against harmful fumes that may be present in cheaper options. Laminated material is more durable and resistant to moisture and mechanical damage.

The edges of MDF or chipboard must be treated with special self-adhesive tapes. It is important that the edges of the elements are smooth, without chips or nicks. Children's furniture is manufactured taking into account the required level of emission of substances, meeting certain norms and standards of safety and environmental friendliness, which is confirmed by quality certificates.

How and where to place it in the interior

The location for a bed with a retractable lower bunk for two children must be carefully selected. You should avoid window-door lines and other ventilated areas.

Experts recommend installing a bed against one of the free walls in the children's room.

Basically choose one of the free walls. Can be installed on a podium or niche. The last option will be the most convenient, since the recess in the wall visually divides the space of the room into different zones.

The location for the bed must be chosen correctly. Avoid places with drafts.

The cabinets, shelves, and drawers adjacent to the structure also allow you to divide the space. This is especially true for elongated rooms.

If the room is elongated and small, this design with a podium will help out.

Rules for assembling pull-out beds

Each manufacturer of children's roll-out bed models must include instructions and a step-by-step assembly drawing of the entire structure. To avoid mistakes, you should familiarize yourself with it in advance.

Before starting assembly, be sure to read the instructions.

First you need to prepare a set of required tools:

  • roulette;
  • screwdriver;
  • screwdriver;
  • conductor for installing drawers.

Next, you need to check the instructions for the presence of all the necessary parts and accessories. It is worth preparing a separate box for small items, this will help avoid their loss.

First, as a rule, you will need to assemble the lower drawers, then the base of the bed. Next, the side walls, front and rear, are attached. Rail elements must be installed in advance. Lastly, the handles (if any) and the horizontal base for the upper mattress will be attached.

If you choose a high-quality model made from good natural materials, you can avoid many problems when assembling and using a children's bed.
