Transformable bed in a teenager's room - advantages of models
The basis of the stylistic concept in the room is not the decoration or curtains, but the furniture. It lasts much longer, and its appearance is more difficult to change. And this option as a transformer is designed for a long service life.
The peculiarity of the solution is its duality. When folded, the bed is either completely hidden from view, or a sofa or table with shelves appears instead. In the first case, the interior changes when the sleeping bed is unfolded. On the second day, some of the furniture remains visible, and, therefore, should fit into the concept of the nursery.
Most models are designed in modern, classic, and constructivist styles. Such furniture has a laconic color scheme and clear geometric contours. Decorations are not allowed as they make the layout difficult. But thanks to its bright design, furniture can be an excellent interior solution for a teenager’s room.
The transformer has many advantages:
- 1 element of furniture performs several functions;
- saving space - a closet, bed, table are placed in the same place and do not take up space;
- the design is very durable and wear-resistant, as it requires constant assembly and disassembly;
- the sleeping bed is placed at the same height as a regular bed. The schoolchild does not need to climb the stairs to bed;
- Much attention is paid to model design.
Flaws:
- inability to change the interior for 10 years;
- The transformer needs to be folded and unfolded every day - this is inconvenient.
Types of transformable bed models for teenagers
The design is very popular due to its convenience and cost-effectiveness. Many options have been developed with different conversion mechanisms, with different stationary furniture elements, for different numbers of users.
Wardrobe bed
A transformable bed for teenagers is most often combined with a wardrobe. There are 2 main solutions: remove the bed so that it takes up minimal space, or convert the bed into a closet.
Based on these principles, the following options are distinguished:
- imitation of a wardrobe - the sleeping base rises and hides in a wall box. When folded, the bed looks like a pencil case. It is important to choose the appropriate design;
- wardrobe with shelves - the bed is hidden in a blind compartment, and on top there is a mezzanine or shelves that can be used. If the model is thick, then a shelf is mounted on the back wall of the cabinet. Devices and accessories related to night sleep are placed here, for example, laundry is laid out, a night light is placed;
- furniture complex - in addition to the blind sector, there are built-in and open shelves, a compartment with drawers, and even a full-fledged clothes closet. The design of a transformer can be very interesting and decorate a child's room.
A distinctive feature of all models is a lifting sleeping base. One way or another, the frame with the bottom and mattress must be installed in the compartment intended for it. For this purpose, the bed is equipped with a lifting mechanism. There are 2 lifting options:
- horizontal - the sleeping bed is fixed with the long side to the base and in this form rises into the compartment. This does not require much effort, so this option is preferable;
- vertical - the bed is mounted with the headboard against the wall and rises up. This requires more strength, especially since in such models the size of the sleeping bed is impressive.
Several lifting mechanisms are used. The most common type is spring. The bed is raised due to the elasticity of the compressed spring, but to lower the bed, you need to apply force. Plus - low cost and ease of handling, minus - the springs wear out and it becomes harder to lift the stock.
More expensive models use gas lift. Lifting is carried out by moving compressed gas in the lift body. No effort is required and wear is eliminated.
Table-bed
A transformable bed for a schoolchild includes a table. This is a better option. The modern student needs a model that combines the properties of a computer and desk, and the latter, at least, has a larger area. Combining it with a bed is a good idea.
The mechanism for unfolding the transformer is the same: the sleeping bed rises horizontally, and a tabletop of the same length is lowered onto the vacant space. At night it rises and turns into a large shelf. The distance between it and the sleeping place is large, so the sleeper does not feel any discomfort.
There is also a design in which the tabletop is fixed to the bottom of the bed. When the berth is placed in the compartment, the table is at normal level. When the bed is reclined, it falls down to the floor.
The advantage of this option is that it is economical: a bedroom and a study corner are located in the same place. The transformer, complemented by stationary shelves and chests of drawers, is especially convenient. However, the usual disadvantage of the product is also more noticeable here. To turn a table into a bed, you need to remove all the items left here: textbooks and notebooks, stationery, computer, keyboard, speakers.
Double beds
A teenage transformable bed is available not only for 1, but also for 2 and even 3 children. Sleeping beds in this case are smaller in size - a width of more than 80 cm is not allowed, otherwise the product loses its compactness.
Bunk
You can hide 2 beds in a pencil case. There are 2 options.
Sleeping beds are placed horizontally, parallel to each other. The lower one barely rises above the floor, the upper one is located at a height of 1 to 1.5 m. In the latter case, the upper part is equipped with a folding ladder. During the day, the structure looks like a flat but large cabinet.
The sleeping bases are installed vertically, between them there is a space filled with shelves, drawers, or a real wardrobe. Here you can place a built-in table with shelves.
Transformable sofa
Compact and more functional option. When folded, the structure looks like a regular sofa, when unfolded, it looks like a two- or even three-sleeping bunk bed.
Almost every manufacturer offers its own lifting option:
- the simplest one is that the upper part of the seat turns over and rises, and the lower part is obtained from the lowered backrest. The upper tier is additionally fixed to the wall with brackets;
- The bottom shelf is placed under the base of the sofa. When unfolded, it rises up, usually together with the armrests. Gas lift;
- the lower base rises up onto folding supports. And the lower berth is rolled out using the “dolphin” mechanism;
- The back of the sofa turns into the upper tier.
Complexes are usually equipped with folding stairs. The folding mechanism is not only complex, but also expensive, so the cost of the product is high.
Only the sofa has significance for the interior. When unfolded, the design is unaesthetic.
Pull-out matryoshka beds
The most compact transformable beds for schoolchildren are “matryoshkas”. It looks like an ordinary single bed. A roll-out or retractable lower base is placed under the upper bed. They can be free and placed in different places at night.
In models with connected beds, the base extends along the guides and does not come apart. This option is considered more reliable.
Rating of the best brands and manufacturers
One of the most famous brands in the world that offers transformable furniture is the international corporation IKEA. This company relied on practicality and discreet style. Transformer beds of this brand are mainly on a metal frame, so they will last for many years, and the transformation mechanism will work flawlessly.
The Russian brand SMARTI-furniture produces a whole range of folding furniture that amazes with transformation mechanisms. For example, the bed can be hidden behind sliding wardrobes. The companies Velar, Fairy, Chunga-Changa, Ulyana, Alisa, Gandylyan Betty also have good reviews.
Selection rules - what to consider
To choose a transforming bed for a teenager, you need to take into account all the parameters:
- sizes – options with dimensions close to adults are suitable: width at least 70–90 cm, length up to 190 cm;
- base – a flat plywood bottom is necessary in models with a cabinet or table. The transformable sofa also uses a slatted orthopedic base;
- mattress – for a teenager you need to choose a hard option, preferably with a block of independent springs. If the child is large and weighs a lot, you need to buy a springless one;
- it is better to use models with a steel frame, as they are more reliable;
- It should be easy for a teenager to fold and disassemble the complex. The mechanism on gas lifts is more convenient;
- design is also taken into account, especially if it is a complex that includes a cabinet, table, and shelves. The design should be combined with the style of the nursery;
- cost is also taken into account. So, a model with a sofa is very expensive, but a “matryoshka” is available for the most limited budget.
Transformable beds for teenagers allow you to make the most efficient use of the space of a small room. This solution not only saves space, but also allows you to place storage for clothes, a desk, and a sofa here.
Functionality of transformation mechanisms
A transformable bunk bed for two children is usually purchased to make the children's space cozy during the day. Therefore, during the day, such a bed turns into a nice sofa.
Lifting mechanisms may vary.
The transformation mechanism has several functions - it lifts one soft part up, serves as a reliable support and should be equipped with a small ladder that the child can climb up to sleep. Many models, when the transformation mechanism is activated, receive sides that make sleeping on the second floor safe.
Gas lift is the most convenient mechanism to use.
