Fabric wardrobe: how to choose
11/28/2018 It is clear that a closet or dressing room is the best storage for clothes and shoes, designed specifically for this purpose. However, it is not always possible to store clothes this way: in a small apartment, rented housing, student dormitory, or in a country house, you often have to look for other options. Fortunately, there are many convenient and aesthetically pleasing alternatives - for example, fabric
. It performs all the functions of a regular wardrobe: it protects clothes from dust, and you can store things in it on hangers and folded shelves. Moreover, such a cabinet has a number of advantages over traditional cabinets.
Pros of a fabric closet
:
- takes up less space than a regular cabinet - there are very compact models that will fit even into the most modest space;
- the fabric cabinet is mobile both inside the apartment (it can be easily moved to another place) and outside it - no movers are needed for transportation, the fabric cabinet is easy to move independently, and it will fit even in a small car;
- if the cabinet is no longer needed, it can be easily disassembled;
- Even a weak girl can handle assembling the cabinet; this task does not require any special skills or tools;
- Caring for the cabinet does not require special products, it is easy to clean;
- a wide range offered by well-known manufacturers allows you to choose a fabric wardrobe for any interior in various modifications;
- low cost compared to conventional cabinets.
Disadvantages of a fabric closet
A little. The most obvious is the appearance: a fabric wardrobe will not be appropriate in every interior; it looks rather modest. In addition, it is easier to care for a regular cabinet - all dirt can be removed with a damp cloth, which cannot be said about a fabric cabinet.
What do you need to know about fabric cabinets so as not to make a mistake with your choice? We will tell you about the main nuances that are worth paying attention to.
PURPOSE
. Most models of fabric cabinets are universal, designed for storing things hanging, as well as on shelves. You can put clothes and shoes in such a closet. In addition, it can be used to store home textiles, bedding, seasonal clothing, books, magazines, children's games and toys, any items that are suitable in size and weight.
However, there are also fabric cabinets with a clear purpose. For example, the closet in the photo on the right was created specifically for storing shoes. It can be placed in the dressing room, hallway, pantry. But even when using such cabinets, there are no restrictions - you can store anything in it.

SIZE.
The range of widths of fabric cabinets is very large: from very miniature ones, they will even fit into a narrow partition, to 4-5-section ones that cover the entire wall. You can easily find a model that fits exactly in size. The depth of a fabric cabinet usually ranges from 40 to 50 cm, but of course there are other options.
Size : 60x45x160 cm | Size : 105x45x160 cm |
DESIGN
. The simplest fabric wardrobe has a hanger bar and at least one shelf. More complex designs may include several rods and shelves for things, drawers, trunks, pockets on the walls of the cabinet. There are also fabric shelving cabinets - they are equipped only with shelves.

Two sections: the first - with a hanger bar, the second - with four shelves | Rack cabinet: 5 shelves made of metal and 5 shelves made of non-woven material |
PERMISSIBLE LOAD
. When purchasing and operating a fabric cabinet, pay attention to the permissible load. This is the maximum permissible weight of things folded in a closet: for example, on a shelf - 3 kg, on a rod - 15 kg. It would be superfluous to say that you should not exceed this limit. And one more thing: we are talking about a distributed load, i.e. about the weight of things located over the entire area of the shelf or along the entire length of the rod.
CLOSING METHOD.
The following options are possible: using a zipper, Velcro and a door in the form of curtains. On some models, the door can be secured with Velcro when raised.

MATERIAL
. As the name suggests, fabric cabinets are made from fabric. We use dense, highly durable fabric that is resistant to sunlight and does not change its properties when washed. In addition, individual parts (for example, shelves) and the cover itself can be made of non-woven material with special impregnation that is resistant to moisture.
The frame onto which the fabric cover is stretched is made of metal tubes and plastic connecting fasteners. The hanger bar is metal. The frame is easy to assemble and disassemble, often without screws or special tools.

fabric wardrobe reviews
So, my son and I have been together for three months now and now I can already share my experience. What was useful to me and what was not. What is convenient and what is not so convenient. I will write about everything in order, in accordance with the old post about our pregnancy purchases. I'll take photos and update later. Otherwise, we’ll get a second one and I’ll go into trouble again
.
Room
Changing chest
In my opinion, this item is irreplaceable. It fits all the necessary things for the baby. We change clothes on it, get massages, do exercises and sometimes just hang out. Our model has one drawback - there was nowhere to put baby creams, etc. We solved it simply - we hung a shelf next to the chest of drawers.
Crib and mattress
It's currently ownerless. Unexpectedly for me, we began to practice SS. The child does not sleep there, but we do not insist. The time will come and he himself will sleep there.
It was impossible to rock our son in it - the rocking mechanism was not useful. Now we periodically lie in it during the day - we communicate with the bears on the bed linen and look at our mobile phone.
Let's start sleeping in the crib and use it more actively - I'll write what and how. The same goes for bed linen and sides.
Pockets for the crib
They hung the so-called on the crib. pocket - canvas with sewn pockets. An irreplaceable thing in our everyday life - everything that needs to be taken out often is there - baby cream, shampoo, pacifiers, bottles, rattles and other small things. Highly recommend.
Blanket "Swan's Down" by Sleepy Gnome
Very light, large and warm. Despite this, my son and I sleep under it in the summer. The child doesn't sweat. It’s really not hot in the summer, let’s see how it will be in the winter. But now it’s very comfortable.
Litter on the chest of drawers
She often appears in our photographs. How happy I am that we took it and not fabric. He washes at once (burped, peed, pooped... whatever happens). The child loves to lie on this “trampoline” - the color is bright and juicy. Lightweight and comfortable. We bought it in "Children"
Night light and mobile
We have a night light and a mobile from Smoby,
The month night light is quite bright, has two mounting options - on a stand and can be hung on the crib. Two modes - flickering and constant light. Soft diffused white light. Turns off after 5 minutes.
The night light that my mother gave me (it’s just in the photos for the dowry) turned out to be absolutely useless. We simply have nowhere to plug it in - all the sockets are low, most are occupied.
The mobile with the star is very beautiful and simple. Of the minuses: You can’t spin by yourself. One melody. Turns off after 5 minutes. Pros: Figures made from different textures. While the baby was just a baby, he listened to her as if spellbound for hours. She calmed us down during colic. Now, if he is lying in a crib, he tries to grab the figures, touches them, pulls them towards him. Apparently he got tired of the melody - he listens for about 10 minutes and then gets bored. The star flickers amazingly in the dark - shimmers in different colors. The fastening is reliable.
Curtain
The crib is next to our sofa. There is a curtain hanging between them. While the baby sleeps with us, we use it as a curtain for nighttime sleep. In the evening, we turn on the light on the closet (located to the left of the sofa) and close the curtain and it turns out that it is dark on the bed, and a light light shines through the curtain. The bed area is ready for sleep - it's cozy and not completely dark. At night I leave only the night light on. At the same time, the rest of the room is illuminated.
Walk
Review of our stroller
- here
Blanket for the stroller
And in general, blankets are our everything! We have three of them. There are two in the photos, another one is from MotherCare. One is always in a stroller, the others are either with us on trips around the city or actively used at home. An elementary situation - the child fell asleep - covered him with a blanket - he is warm and the flies don’t bite :). The blanket from Ikea is the lightest. The kid loves the cars more because of the colors - he even talks to them. It is very warm and cozy. The red is insanely soft, but it's the hottest.
Kids' things
Diapers
We have a lot of them, we gave them all away. Not all were useful. They are often needed in everyday life, but I think 5 pieces of warm ones and the same number of light ones are enough. This is provided that I do not swaddle the baby.
We use:
a) on the sofa - we put a diaper on our bed linen
b) when they come to visit (now I just give home T-shirts to my friends), and I worry less about germs on my clothes. I take the child in my arms in street clothes and don’t worry. During the newborn period, she offered guests a diaper.
c) there is always a clean diaper on the changing chest.
d) one or two diapers are hanging on the crib - burped, wipe the baby after washing the bottom, etc.
e) one clean diaper is always in the bag - for trips, to the clinic, etc.
e) and three pieces in reserve - for now used in the streak.
How much did we get? 7-9 diapers. That's all you need. Let's round it up to 10 - it's enough for the eyes.
Disposable diapers
The thing is necessary and very convenient. We take these to the clinic and on trips. We also use them for holopopia.
General:
We bought clothes in three sizes in advance - 56, 62, 68.
Baby undershirts
They were quickly abandoned - especially those without buttons at all. Very uncomfortable! The child does not lie like a soldier, he is more like a little snake - spinning and spinning. This is where all the plowing stops - they come off and get in the way... We didn't like it.
Bodysuits
A very comfortable type of clothing. With short sleeves, with long sleeves. We use them very actively. The main thing when choosing is to make sure that it is convenient to fit the baby’s head through - either pockets-lapels or buttons. By the way, the buttons below are our everything! Since the child grows quickly, you need 2-3 of each size.
Socks
If you wear pants and bodysuits, then they are definitely necessary. But - socks have a habit of slipping off children's restless feet. If the elastic on the socks is too tight, then marks may remain on the legs. Terry socks come off easily. Until the child crawls, consumption is minimal - three pairs are enough.
Booties
We didn't like them - they fall off easily, and putting them on is also not very convenient. We only needed them for a very young baby, when we were still too big for a newborn, size 56. We used them to kind of shorten clothes so that the baby wouldn’t take his legs out of the rompers. One piece is enough, and even so it’s just self-indulgence.
Beanies
The hat must have ties. With elastic bands and without ties, in my opinion, they turned out to be completely stupid. Mostly they used a white cap with ties. The rest is buried in the closet. If the child had been born in the summer, he probably wouldn’t have been useful at all. One hat is enough for the first time.
Caps
But we still actively use lightweight cotton caps. Until two months, I put on a cap after a bath - it absorbs the baby’s sweat well and the head dries quickly. Now we wear such a cap outside and we don’t care about all the wind - the ears are closed and it’s not hot. Two caps of each size are enough.
Scratches
The baby constantly took off the ones we had, we even tried to sew them in - to no avail. Then they just scored. It is enough to take care of children's manicure, and we have long become accustomed to our own hands. In general, we didn't find it useful.
Blouses with buttons
We mainly used them at home - put on such a jacket + a diaper and the child was happy. They only recently started wearing clothes for the street. The bad thing is that they slip out of the pants when you take the child in your arms and easily ride up. They are very convenient from the point of view of use - the buttons can be quickly unfastened and there is no need to thread anything over the baby’s head. Now they have already begun to dress like this. It takes at least two blouses a day - either they spit up, or something else...
Panties
They started wearing them relatively recently. We use it in a duet with socks. Very comfortable for vertical sling wear. It is easier for a baby to spread his legs in pants and there is no pressure on the foot, as is the case with rompers. The downside is that the pants also tend to slip down. 1-2 pants of each size are enough.
Romper pants
Convenient, but not universal. The baby quickly grows beyond the allotted length. And a situation may arise that the space allocated for the baby’s legs will not be enough for the growing leg.
Romper suits
We use it as actively as bodysuits. They come with closed legs and open legs, long sleeves and short sleeves or no sleeves at all. Various fabrics and styles. Here you need to look at the season. In my opinion, the most convenient sliders are those with buttons, and the buttons should be not only on the belly, but also in the groin area - for quick diaper changes. In principle, in the first months the child can only wear these onesies and body suits.
Fabric overalls
Also versatile and comfortable. Knitted, cotton - any. The main thing is to dress easily and have access to a diaper.
Hygiene
Sterilizer
quickly gave it back to my aunt. We bought our compact one. We don’t use bottled pacifiers; I pour boiling water over the breast pump. If you really need to “process” something, a miniature “I’m growing” is enough. But for children in NE and IV, this is probably an irreplaceable thing.
Circle
We swim in it - though not every day. The kid likes it. Holds up well. The downside is that the plug flew out once and the circle began to deflate. But we don’t leave the child alone in the bathroom, so there were no problems.
Slide
— they grew up to it relatively recently. When I bathe alone it is very convenient. The child relaxes on the slide, and I pour some water on him and we play. Because my husband taught the child to row on his tummy and now I can’t hold this little thing in the water. True, this model itself is unstable, the Velcro does not hold and the child slips a little.
Thermometer
We actively use it. I'm a pedantic mother - everything needs to be right. I love hot baths and have a hard time figuring out what temperature is optimal. Probably everything will come with experience.
Towels
- we have three of them. And good! After a bath, the ferret is often relaxed and it is easy to discover childish surprises there. So for a baby, one towel is not an option.
Bathing products
— We bathe the child with them once a week. Sometimes we use “Eared Nanny” foam instead. Haven't used shampoo yet. Consumption is slow.
Wet wipes
- we use it all the time. We try different companies. So far the only thing I haven't liked is the Hagis.
Disposable towels
— they started buying. It’s very convenient to quickly wipe or put something away.
Oil
I don’t really use it yet - I’m so comfortable with oily wipes. I only used it for the first month. Now it might come in handy for a massage.
Diaper cream
— it suited us, but sometimes irritation poured out. The small jars have already been converted, so we’ll use the larger one. Sudocrem, Bepanten and, of the latter, Drapolene (an analogue of Desitin) help.
Children's cotton buds
- good for cleaning the nose. I haven’t learned how to spin tutundriks.
Scissors
— The snub noses we bought are complete crap. We use Chikovsky ones, and my husband uses tweezers.
Brush
- I always use it when I wash my hair. It is soft and it turns out to be a kind of massage + all the particles of dead skin are instantly cleaned off.
Ershik
- quite comfortable. The most important thing is universal.
Household chemicals
— we still hold “Eared Nyan” in high esteem
Aspirator
- this thing is not necessary. We have Otrivin Baby in our first aid kit.
Diapers
— Pampers Premium Care suited us from birth. There is irritation from Khagisov and Pampes. Recently, your favorite diapers have begun to leave marks. Let's try the Japanese ones.
Bin
- very necessary. And not just for diapers. During the day, a lot of napkins and pieces of paper are used. In the evening I just take out the filled bag.
Cotton swabs
- we also use it, for example, to wipe our eyes. A pack lasts a long time.
First aid kit
What's in our first aid kit? Lots of things in reserve for emergencies. Here is the list of medications that I compiled during pregnancy.
Thermometer
I’m 100% satisfied - I checked the result with the mercury one, everything works perfectly. The main thing is not to rush and follow the instructions.
Toys
Toy net
- very convenient, I threw everything in there and it was in order. It takes up little space.
Educational mat “Zoo”
We put the baby there almost from birth. While we don’t lie there for a long time, at this stage we demand to experience the world in our mother’s arms. But sometimes it happens that we happily grab hanging toys and “turn on” the music with our feet. Use according to your mood. The downside is that it takes up space even when folded. I'm pleased with its versatility - you can hang almost any toys
Rattles
Here it is - the baby's first toy. We have several of them - different in shape and thickness. The child likes to watch them, and sometimes even takes them himself and joyfully hits himself on the head with them. We very actively use tension rattles over the crib - the child looks at the rattles in the form of animals, reaches out to them and is incredibly happy if he manages to grab them.
Tumbler
The other day we were at the surgeon’s and our little one noticed our Soviet tumbler on his table - he shoved it and laughed out loud. How come we didn’t think of it ourselves? We are looking for one like this for home.
In addition to children's products, there are reviews of our side purchases:
1. Iron
2. Vacuum cleaner
3. Maternity pillow
4. Electronic book
5. Clothes dryer - we use it daily. Very comfortable, roomy, the design itself is like a feather. The downside is that the wheels don’t roll very well, or maybe I’m a crooked person.
About what was useful for the mother, including in the maternity hospital, in a separate post.
