Roller blinds day-night: varieties and installation tips

A well-thought-out window design is not only a way to protect a room from exposure to sunlight and hide from prying eyes. It can also become a window decoration and a stylistic solution that will be a good addition to the overall interior of the room. Among the huge variety of blinds, roller blinds are very popular. One of their varieties is day-night roller blinds.

The photo gallery will help you understand the diversity of this type of blinds.

Types of roller blinds day night

There are three main types of roller blinds day-night, these are double roller blinds with two independent products on one bracket, zebra day-night - the fabric sheet is made in strips and folded in two layers, as well as cassette roller blinds with a spring mechanism and two sheets of fabric - day night, one of which is installed at the top of the sash, and one at the bottom. It is clear that nothing is clear. Therefore, step by step, as usual, let’s go with photos and videos!

Uni-2 PIM Day-Night

And I would like to start with a very successful model of roller blinds with a spring (PIM) in a cassette system with Uni-2 PIM Day-Night guides. At its core, this is the same Uni-2 PIM (Bottom-Up) model, which is often installed on the first floors of residential buildings, only with two roller blinds on one leaf. In addition, this system is a cassette system, i.e. the edges of the fabric are in the “U” shaped guides, which minimizes gaps on the sides.

For such a curtain, 2 fabrics are usually chosen, one more transparent, and one thick (blackout) with 100% blackout. This will allow you to use less shading fabrics on cloudy winter days, and when the sun shines strongly outside, cover the window with a 100% shading fabric. In addition, there are fabrics for roller blinds with a reverse metallized surface that reflect solar energy. This allows the curtain fabric to heat up less, as a result, less light will enter the room.

The video you will see below describes this system of Day-Night roller blinds in more detail.

Double roller blinds day night

Roller blinds day and night are two roller blind shafts installed sequentially on one bracket or in a cassette. Two different pieces of fabric are attached to the shaft using an adhesive base, which are rolled into a roll. Control is carried out either by a control circuit (each product has a separate control) or by an electric drive. Thus, the User has the opportunity to decorate the window by choosing from two options of fabrics at his request, day or night. Usually they choose one fabric that is more transparent, the second one is denser, or even blackout.

There are two main systems of roller blinds: free-hanging and cassette double roller blinds for day and night. For installation directly on a piece of glazing of a plastic window, the best option would be cassette ones, and to cover the entire window opening, free-hanging ones would be the best option.

Materials and fabric

Types of fabric for roller blinds.

  1. Cotton + polyester. By mixing two different components, natural cotton and synthetic polyester, the developer created a material that was universal in technical and operational properties.
  2. Fabric "Skin". These are bi-fabrics consisting of plasticized fiberglass and polyvinyl chloride, the percentage ratio between which is 36 to 64.
  3. Artificially burned. It is created using synthetic and natural fibers. It is scorched due to partial processing of the material at the production stage with soluble acids.
  4. Blackout. It belongs to night fabrics because it is made from dense synthetic fibers.
  5. Satin + polyester. In some cases, the outer layer of such roller blinds is treated with durable acrylic.

These are popular materials for the production of such products. Each is characterized by increased wear resistance and ease of maintenance.

Free-hanging

Free hanging roller blinds day night

Day-night roller blinds with a free-hanging system do not have fastenings for the fabric. The edges and the lower plumb line of the canvas are not secured in any way and hang freely, unless, of course, additional fastenings are used.

Double roller blinds, day and night, are installed quite rarely on plastic windows. This is due to the high cost, since you buy two independent roller blinds instead of one, and as a result, you spend twice as much. And the second is the bulkiness of the product. Not everyone likes this type of installation on a plastic window sash.

An excellent solution would be to install roller blinds day and night with two fabrics on the wall, ceiling, slope, covering the entire opening of the plastic window. Or in the ceiling niche. In this case, rolls of fabric will not be visible and the installation will be more aesthetic and neat.

Features of a closed system

Many consumers are reduced to the opinion that the model is the most successful. The upper shaft is hidden in an aluminum box. A beam is attached to the bottom edge to weigh down the canvas, which helps prevent deformation.

Metal guides are installed on the sides, which completely prevents sunlight from entering the room. The curtain has an aesthetic appearance and is perfectly protected from insects and dust.

Cassette

Cassette roller blinds day night

Day-night roller blinds in a cassette are a more compact curtain system for installation on a plastic window sash. Rolls of both fabrics are hidden in a decorative box, which is attached to the sash either with self-tapping screws or with double-sided tape.

Also, both sheets of fabric and the lower plumbs of the fabric are fixed in “U” shaped guides. This ensures that the fabric sheet is always parallel to the PVC window sash, even when the sash is open for ventilation.

Types of control of roller blinds day and night

Control of roller blinds day and night can be manual, using a control circuit, or automatic - from a remote control or from a switch on the wall. Both controls are reliable and fairly well distributed. Electric drive control is significantly more expensive, but all the benefits more than justify the price.

  • Chain

Chain

Chain control

Chain control of roller blinds day and night - the products are controlled through a control chain, these are plastic balls strung on a strong woven thread. Controls for one product are usually located on the left, while others are located on the right.

  • Automatic

Automatic

Automatic

Automatic control of roller blinds day and night is the most modern and convenient. The big advantage is that it becomes possible to control the roller blind day and night on hard-to-reach windows, flights of stairs, and on windows located high from the floor.

Also, day-night roller blinds can be connected to the Smart Home system and all control of the curtains can be left to automation.

Zebra day night

roller blinds day night are roller blinds that have double striped fabric. Thanks to this system, you can achieve more precise adjustment of the room's illumination without lifting the entire roller blind, but only slightly lifting it. You can also stop zebra roller blinds day and night in a free-hanging or cassette design. Let's consider both options.

Care

In any room, dirt and dust constantly accumulate on rolls. This process cannot be avoided or managed, even if the housewife regularly performs wet cleaning around the house.

Standard curtains need to be removed; they are long and impractical, and they have to be washed regularly. A significant advantage is that they do not require special care. You need to wipe them with a damp cloth a couple of times a week.

Zebra curtains cannot be washed in a washing machine, nor can they be vacuumed. Zebra blinds can be treated with a special dust-repellent liquid, but this matter is best left to professionals.

Watch a detailed video on the system from the ZHALYUZNIK online store, I have attached two videos of free-hanging systems, on the sash of a plastic window, or on the wall.

Free-hanging zebra day-night roller blinds are curtains with a double sheet of fabric on the sides that is not secured with anything, and they also have an open roll with a wound fabric in the upper part. These products can be installed either on the sash of a plastic window or on the entire opening. When installed on a sash, day-night roller blinds with fishing line will be a more budget-friendly option. On the wall, with an overlap so that there are no gaps, or on the ceiling. The weighting pipe, which rolls inside the fabric, can be fixed with a guide line or cable.

Mini-cassette system

The minimalist model takes up little space. It is controlled by a spring or chain mechanism. To install the box with guides, double-sided tape is used.

There are quite a lot of selection criteria: how much free space is needed, the cost of products, personal preferences. Installation of curtains can even be done on the ceiling. Before carrying out installation work, the home craftsman must make sure that the window sashes open and close freely. It is important that the curtains do not come into contact with heating devices.

If you choose the right colors for the stripes, it is easy to visually expand a narrow and small room.

When buying a model for a large window, pay attention to what the frame elements are made of. Over time, heavy fabric causes deformation of plastic parts. Give preference to a metal model.

Look at what materials the stripes are made from. Transparent stripes can be made of tulle or dense mesh. The second option is considered more durable. The materials for the fabric parts are various fabrics. It can be natural linen or synthetic. Synthetic products are more practical.

Roller blinds day night with eclipse fabric

Roller blinds day night with Eclipse fabric are roller blinds with two panels, made according to the zebra roller blind system, only instead of fabric with stripes, this fabric alternates transparent circles and a dense circle surrounding it. When one canvas is shifted, the translucent circles intersect, thereby increasing or decreasing the lighting of the room. Watch the video below, it produces an interesting effect.

Operating principle

Roller blinds contain small features of classic curtains and standard blinds. In the situation of blinds, the principle of operation involves winding them onto a shaft, thereby covering the window opening. And in a roll system, day and night, the strips of fabric remain in the same plane.

The darkened part will block the sun, but, nevertheless, transmit sunlight through the light areas. If necessary, you can raise the product, and then sunlight will fill the room.
