The main advantages of furniture made of wood
Products made from natural materials are very beautiful and are suitable for any interior style in rooms for a wide variety of purposes. There are several features that speak in favor of choosing just such furniture.
The availability and traditional skills of making wooden chairs allow us to create a variety of design solutions that suit the most demanding requirements of customers. They can look very original and attractive, even with minimal finishing and wood processing.
The solid wood used to make these pieces of furniture is highly durable. Such products can be difficult to break. Sometimes they last a hundred years or more, especially when they are chairs with a wooden seat, which can remain unchanged for a long time.Natural material of plant origin is absolutely environmentally safe, which is especially important for children's rooms and for people prone to allergic reactions.
Unlike other materials, wood can be easily repaired, restored and painted.
Back and seat
The back can be high, medium or low. Low chairs include chairs with backs up to the lower back or slightly higher. Standard or medium-height backrests reach the shoulder blades. High ones can reach neck level or even higher.
Backs are also divided according to shape. They can be:
- straight;
- corsetry;
- orthopedic;
- end-to-end.
The seats are soft and hard. Almost always, rigid ones are made of the same material as the frame. It is worth considering the soft seats in more detail; there is a wide variety of materials.
The following materials can be used as filler.
- Sintepon. One of the cheapest materials, but it does not last long and wears out quickly.
- Foam rubber. Similar to the previous material, but more durable.
- Horsehair. To increase service life, it must be treated with silicone. It is a durable filler, which is also environmentally friendly.
The seat depth is usually 450-470 mm. Width 420-500 mm.
Classic style chairs
Classic is the most common type of furniture, this is especially evident in chairs, which, without large solid planes, often look like the most elegant and stylish objects in the interior.
Chairs made in a classic style have standard sizes and proportions of backs and seats. They are used in various rooms, from living rooms to kitchens.
Wooden upholstered chairs in this style, which have soft upholstery only on the seat or also on the back, have long become familiar to everyone. The material that is combined with a wooden structure can be upholstery fabric, natural or artificial leather and velvet.
Frame
The basis of the chair is the frame. It can be performed using various methods. The simplest option is a wooden frame made of dies. They are connected to each other in a groove. This is a durable design. In some cases, another crossbar may be added.
The joints must be glued. This provides protection from drying out and loosening. Sometimes, instead of grooves, a connection with tenons is used.
It is possible to find wooden chairs with a metal frame. This provides additional strength and durability to the product. Caracas can be made entirely of metal or combined with wood. In the latter case, only the corners are made of metal, which make the connection more durable.
All metal elements must be regularly treated against corrosion.
Folding chairs
To save space, as well as to increase the functionality of furniture, designs of folding wooden chairs are being developed. Their disadvantage is the presence of a mechanism that needs regular lubrication and sometimes repair.
The folding type of such furniture is convenient to use in the country, in a country house, on large verandas and kitchens, when additional seats for guests are needed. There are chairs with reclining backs, which can take any angle of inclination, up to a horizontal position.Two functions can be performed by a wooden transforming chair, which is an object for a person to sit on, which, if necessary, can be easily folded into a stepladder for household work. Such a product can be made at home from scrap materials, for example, left over after dismantling outdated furniture.
Features of practical care
Despite the stylish appearance and excellent environmental performance, wooden furniture requires properly organized care:
- For wooden chairs, full wet cleaning should not be used. Chemically aggressive and abrasive compounds can damage the outer protective layer of varnish or paint, which will inevitably lead to property damage.
- The best way to remove dust and small dirt is to simply wipe with a rag.
- If the integrity of the protective coating is nevertheless compromised, it is better to seek help from a specialist who will properly clean the furniture and restore the acrylic layer on the surface.
At home, it is better to periodically renew acrylic varnish to prevent the formation of cracks and rotting of the wood.
Garden seats
For outdoor dining, garden furniture comes in a variety of shapes. A prerequisite for long-term operation of such items is high-quality protective treatment of materials against moisture penetration and parasite infestation.
In this type of furniture, any manifestation of design fantasies is possible. Part of a wooden chair for a country house can be a stump or a branch of an original shape, also carefully treated with protective compounds.
Required Tools
One copy of a real wooden chair, i.e. seats made from solid wood are relatively expensive - 6,000-20,000 rubles. The cost is affected by the brand and the complexity of manufacturing the structure.

It is easier for the target audience to make a wooden chair themselves than to pay an average salary for the entire furniture set. The question is whether the creator has the necessary tools:
- Measuring objects - ruler, square, meter, level;
- Fixation items – vices, clamps;
- Impact devices – hammer, mallet;
- Items for cutting – jigsaw, hand saw for wood;
- Smoothing accessories – electric planer, grinder, emery machine;
- Devices for drilling and fastening – drill, screwdriver;
- Painting accessories – brushes, roller, containers.
Additionally, you will need a workbench and consumables - sandpaper, screws, choppers, wood glue.
Chairs with armrests
The chair-chair, in its basic parameters, corresponds to the classic examples of this type of furniture, but its distinctive feature is the presence of armrests. They can be made with solid sidewalls or in the form of handrails on stands.
The back of a wooden chair with armrests can be solid, made of twigs, wicker, or upholstered with soft inserts. A huge number of models of this type can be selected for any interior, from simple living rooms to luxurious reception rooms.
Styles
Wooden chairs are used in a variety of styles. Let's consider the main directions of design.
- Country. All chairs support the principle that the simpler or more natural, the better. The seats are square in shape; branches, snags, and stumps can be used as decoration. Designers strive to get closer to nature.
- Rococo/Baroque. The chairs have curved legs, asymmetrical backrests, and hanging armrests. Such furniture is always upholstered. They can be decorated with carvings and gilding. The chairs are more like armchairs.
- Provence. Another rustic style, but with palace manners. The legs are made only curved, the backs are oval with a soft insert. The seats are often in the form of a low square chair.
- Modern. The base material is wood. There are no specific rules. All models are distinguished by the presence of designer decor. Floral and plant patterns, as well as elven-style decorations, are often found.
Weighty furniture
The Viennese method for making chairs is particularly beautiful, durable and of high quality.
For bent parts, special wood species are selected, the quality of which only improves after undergoing procedures for bending parts using special technologies. We recommend reading:

The curved wooden backs and legs of such chairs favorably decorate the straight lines of the rest of the furniture.
When purchasing Viennese chairs or semi-chairs, you should pay attention to the fastening parts of the products. A bent tree that does not break during bending procedures, in itself, becomes a guarantee of the quality of the product.
Chair Roccapina One
British furniture manufacturer Ian Spencer and industrial designer Cairn Young have developed a project to create unique furniture, the Yard Sale Project. Became Roccapina One - one of their first in this project.
It is created using Spencer's furniture design and construction method called the Chaos Technique. It was in this technique that Spencer asked Young to design the chair. This is how this unusual chair came about.

Joinery materials
The main tree species used in carpentry are:
Oak is a hardwood, one of the best for carpentry. It has high mechanical strength, is resistant to decay, and can be stained in water. Bog oak has a color ranging from black to brown-green.
When cut radially, oak produces beautiful core rays, while the wood texture combines very well with staining. Due to the porosity of wood, it is recommended to treat oak products with colorless varnish in order, on the one hand, to protect the wood from contamination, and on the other, to emphasize its natural beautiful texture
Beech is a hard deciduous wood with a poor texture, widely used in carpentry. Its strength is almost as good as that of oak, but it is not resistant to decay and is greatly deformed when drying. It is well impregnated with varnishes and stains, easy to process. It is most beautiful when cut radially.
Ash is a hard deciduous tree, slightly lighter in color than oak, grayish in color. The texture is rich, the wood has a viscous, dense structure and is very durable. Ash is very dense, so it is poorly susceptible to impregnation with varnishes, stains and antiseptics. It bends well and hardly deforms when it dries.
Walnut is a hardwood, very dense and heavy, has a beautiful wood texture, and is easy to process and polish.
Pine is a soft coniferous species that is used in construction and carpentry. It is well processed, impregnated with varnishes, stains and antiseptics. Popular due to the low cost of the material.
Larch is a hard coniferous tree, superior in strength to oak. It is used in carpentry, in the manufacture of parquet, and in the interior decoration of buildings. The wood has a rich reddish-yellow texture, is resistant to decay, and is poorly saturated with paints and protective compounds.
