Wardrobe (56 photos): versatile, roomy, modern

Wardrobes belong to the class of cabinet furniture, that is, they have a body (side and back walls, as well as the top lid and bottom) to which the doors are attached

The wardrobe replaced bulky and inconvenient chests in the mid-17th century. And for several centuries now, the closet, as a universal storage system, has remained an indispensable element of room furnishing.

What it is?

In various dictionaries you can read that a closet is a place for storing things.

The wardrobe was invented to store dresses back in the 16th century. It was made from solid wood and was therefore heavy, bulky and expensive. And only in the 19th century, when factories began to produce cabinet furniture, wardrobes became available to more buyers.

This piece of furniture has become a necessary means of carefully storing seasonal items and a way to protect against dust and fading.

Despite different interpretations of the concept, experts call a wardrobe a piece of furniture that has walls, a bottom, a top lid, doors, and sometimes legs. A distinctive feature of the wardrobe is the hinged doors.

Decoration

Depending on what exactly the cabinet design should be, the following can be used to decorate it:

  • PVC film - characterized by textural diversity and an abundance of embossing options. It is not expensive, and therefore is very popular;
  • MDF - to give the product the required color, MDF facades are coated with acrylic paints. Next, the painted surface is polished and varnished. At the moment, this coating technique is well developed and allows you to achieve a matte effect, glossy shine, mother-of-pearl shine, or make the facade look like a starry sky;
  • plastic - this material is inexpensive, but it is practical and, with the right selection of colors, can significantly enliven the space. In addition, plastic elements are very difficult to damage and require almost no maintenance. This is an excellent option for decorating a nursery;
  • wood (natural) - depending on the type of wood chosen, a 4-door wardrobe can look simple and homely, or elegant;
  • photo printing - the use of such decor allows you to bring almost any design ideas to life, and modern application methods make it possible to ensure that the image will not fade or be erased during use;
  • glass - both the doors themselves and the coating on top of them can be glass. In the first case, you can see the contents of a 4-door wardrobe without opening it. This is especially appropriate when the structure is used to store books. Also, frosted glass inserts or coated with a colored film can be used to decorate ordinary opaque doors (for example, to imitate stained glass);
  • mirror - in some cases, mirrors are located on one or more cabinet doors. A 4-door wardrobe with a mirror not only allows you to instantly evaluate your appearance if necessary, but also makes it possible to slightly expand the interior space of the room;
  • leather and fabric - such decorative options look quite exotic, but are still in demand among people who experience the world by touch and enjoy touching the surface of leather or fabric.

Materials

How long a two-door cabinet will last and retain its original appearance largely depends on the material of manufacture. The product is made from:

  1. Chipboard. Chipboards are either regular or laminated. The basis for the material is sawdust, which is pressed and glued together by adding synthetic binding fibers. Since the composition contains phenols and formaldehyde resins, chipboards are considered non-ecological. The material is afraid of mechanical stress, high moisture, and steam.
  2. Chipboard. The difference from the previous material is that a polymer film is applied to the slabs. Chipboard has a greater variety of colors, and the surface can be embossed. Plates of this type are less subject to mechanical stress, therefore they are considered stronger and more reliable.
  3. Fiberboard. It is made by pressing wood chips and shavings. Such sheets are used only for the manufacture of back walls.
  4. MDF. It is produced by pressing small wood chips and special binding fibers. Only natural ingredients are used in production, so MDF is an environmentally friendly and safe material. Important advantages of these plates are high strength and durability.
  5. Tree. Natural solid wood is a premium material with a high cost, so it is used quite rarely for the production of double-leaf cabinets. Wood looks expensive and presentable and gives the room a special chic. To maintain its original appearance, the array must be carefully looked after and periodically treated with protective impregnations.
  6. Metal. They are rarely used, more often - for the manufacture of special-purpose products, for example, medical, industrial.

There are also different options for the final finishing of the facades. Thanks to the wide range, designers are constantly coming up with new models, and people can choose a product that fits perfectly into the interior. For the design of facades the following are used:

  • PVC film is the most budget option and has different shades and patterns;
  • glass - such inserts visually increase the space, so they are suitable for small rooms;
  • photo printing - allows you to create a unique interior;
  • plastic - a similar finish is used to make models in modern styles: loft, hi-tech, minimalism.

Advantages and disadvantages

It is not for nothing that hinged cabinets are considered classics of the furniture world. Such models have many advantages, among the most significant:

  • free access to all things stored inside;
  • a huge selection of filling options;
  • Possibility of custom manufacturing according to individual parameters;
  • an organic combination of compactness and spaciousness;
  • a variety of designs along with excellent compatibility with other furniture and all kinds of interior solutions;
  • reliability of the design - hinged hinges on doors serve faithfully for a long time, and in case of failure they are easily replaced without significant financial costs;
  • mobility of furniture - it can be easily and repeatedly rearranged at will (with the exception of built-in models);
  • a variety of sizes and number of sashes, which allows you to choose a product for any area of the room.

Of course, cabinets with hinged doors also have disadvantages. Firstly, such models cannot be placed in a narrow room, for example, a hallway, since open doors will block the passage. Secondly, if the cabinet is installed on an uneven floor, the doors will close and open poorly, and you will have to additionally adjust the hinges.

Which one is better to choose?

When choosing furniture, you must remember that for a small room it is better to choose a small wardrobe. For a bedroom, the best option would be a corner model. Products have one leaf, two, three or more. A single door with drawers is suitable for storing many items of clothing. It can be used either alone or in combination with other cabinets.

If the size of the room allows, you can install a large swing wardrobe with 6 doors. It will look great in a spacious bedroom or living room. The facades can be decorated with glossy plastic or in a classic style made of solid wood. Models made from chipboard with mezzanines and a mirror are an excellent option for a hallway. Small models with various drawers and shelves for storing various things and objects are well suited for a dacha.

For a small bathroom, it is recommended to choose lighter bedding colors. The number of doors for the closet in the toilet is 1 or 2. The model of the bathroom cabinet can contain a mirror. The internal filling for a sanitary cabinet can be supplemented with all the necessary drawers, shelves for storing personal hygiene products and home care products.

Kinds

There are different options for hinged wardrobes:

  1. Built-in. They do not have one or more panels; instead, the walls of the room itself are used. Such products can be placed in small spaces or built into a niche. They are made to order, so the internal content and design can be thought out by the future user.
  2. Corpus. These are classic hinged wardrobes, they are universal. The furniture can be placed anywhere and can be easily moved if desired. In addition, this model can be used for zoning space, which is often important for large rooms or one-room apartments or studios. It’s easier and faster to purchase a cabinet cabinet than a built-in one; you don’t need to wait for custom-made cabinets.

Advantages of two-door cabinets, internal filling options

Built-in

Cabinet In addition, such furniture is divided into types according to design:

  1. A linear cabinet is a familiar, classic version of a rectangular shape that is located along any free wall.
  2. Corner - specially designed for placement in the corner of the room. Takes up minimal space, yet is roomy and comfortable.
  3. Radius - an original version with an unusual design. The shape can be concave or curved. Such a cabinet can be placed in the corner of the room, where it will take up minimal space. It will also easily fit into the most unsuitable niches for a wardrobe: curved, small, crooked. This feature makes such products one of the most popular.

Linear

Angular

Radial In addition to the above division, furniture can be classified into types according to the number of doors. Standard models have 2–3 or 3–4 doors. If a cabinet is at least 4.5 m wide, and therefore occupies the entire wall, it can have 6 doors. There are also products with 1 door, they are narrow, similar to pencil cases.

Today, modular furniture sets are in demand. They consist of several separate items made in the same style. They can be moved at your discretion and combined in different ways. Often the facades of such products are decorated with gloss - it suits all modern interiors.

How to choose a closet

Placement principle

The cabinet must correspond to its location in its appearance, dimensions and contents:

PhotoDescription
Corridor
For the hallway, choose a compact double-leaf wardrobe with compartment doors.

The lack of lighting is compensated by the light finish.

The depth of the furniture depends on the width of the passage and is 40–60 cm.

If the room is square, use a corner structure with a mezzanine.

Bedroom
For a spacious bedroom, choose a three-leaf option with hinged or folding doors.

Exterior decoration must match the interior.

Here you dress, select outfits, so one door panel is made mirrored.

Living room
A wardrobe installed in the living room may have a different number of doors, with different fastening methods.

A two-door wardrobe is installed in a small room and complemented with furniture modules: a cabinet, open shelves, a rack.

These items should have a uniform finish and be combined with the style of the room.

Children's
The furniture in the nursery is selected to be compact.

A single-door wardrobe will be enough for a child.

Choose a rainbow finish, with children’s themed pictures.

If you plan to buy a cabinet made of natural wood, then pine will be the best option.

This breed has a light tone and gives a pleasant smell.

The wardrobe in the nursery is installed along a free wall or in a corner. It is recommended to fix the structure - secure it to the wall with metal corners. Drawers must have closers and stoppers to prevent them from falling out.

Two cabinets united by a cabinet have a single top canopy with lighting

Main areas

The internal structure of the wardrobe has a standard division into zones, and the filling principle differs little from other wardrobes. The cabinet is horizontally divided into three parts. Each has its own purpose.

The distribution of internal zones can be changed upon request

PhotoDescription
Lower zone
The height of the lower part is 60–80 cm.

Here shelves are made or drawers are installed.

The category of things for the lower zone depends on the installation location:

  • shoes are stored in the hallway;
  • in the nursery - toys;
  • in the bedroom - socks, tights, underwear;
  • in the living room there are boxes with formal dress shoes and dishes.

Middle zone
The most convenient part: things are in sight and accessible.

This area contains the most sought-after wardrobe items.

The middle zone occupies 50–60% of the internal volume, height – from 80 to 120 cm.

There is a dress department (a niche with a hanger bar), drawers with divisions and shelves.

The distance between shelves is 40–50 cm.

Upper zone
The hard-to-reach top starts from 180 cm and ends with the height of your cabinet.

Things that are used periodically are kept here, for example, umbrellas, handbags, seasonal clothes/hats.

Hangers with a built-in lowering mechanism are located in the upper zone.

The wardrobe can be equipped with rotary-lowering, roll-out systems, as well as retractable hangers for trousers, belts, and skirts.

Required elements

Each wardrobe contains shelves, crossbars, and drawers. Hangers with clothes are located in a niche. The compartment for shirts and skirts is 60–80 cm, for dresses and suits – 120–140.

The rods are mounted longitudinally or perpendicularly (end-on). A shallow cabinet of 40–45 cm allows the installation of an end rod. In a wide niche (1 meter) you can install two end crossbars.

Small drawer with divider bars

Boxes are used in different heights, 20–60 cm. For jewelry and small items, delimiter strips are installed in the box, dividing the space into cells of the required size. Such an organizer can be 10–15 cm.

Storing underwear in a cell box

Drawers for underwear, if desired, are replaced with a mesh basket. Shelves for knitwear and sportswear are made “breathable” from plastic/metal mesh.

Color solutions

A light cabinet brightens and visually enlarges the room

A wardrobe is a massive object; its color should be in harmony with the decor. When choosing a cabinet, adhere to several rules:

  • In the interior of the room, “playing” with three colors is allowed. They can be used in various shades. Each color can be used in three variations.
  • The color of the wardrobe is selected to match the decor, lighting and dimensions are taken into account. For example, in a poorly lit corridor, choose a light cladding (beige, light gray, white, cream, etc.).
  • The bedroom is always decorated in soothing colors. Light wood is ideal; dark brown or black can be placed in a lighted place.
  • If the closet dominates, then the rest of the furniture, wallpaper, carpet, textiles will be matched to it.
  • The “color matching” technique helps hide the dimensions of your wardrobe. Cover the walls with similar wallpaper.
  • Consider the style of the room. For example, for Provence, you buy a light cabinet with the effect of aged wood. Off-white, lavender, steel, brown are also suitable.
  • The principle of the influence of color on size should be observed. Light increases, dark decreases.
  • Bright colors can be irritating and interfere with relaxation. They are not recommended for use in the bedroom, office or any room where you spend a lot of time.

The color of the cabinet should match the overall design of the room

Dimensions

Let's consider the main parameters of dimensions:

PhotoDescription
Width
The size of the facade depends on the width of the doors and their number.

The minimum door leaf is 40 cm, more convenient 60–80 cm.

The optimal width of a double-leaf wardrobe is 100–160 cm, and a three-door wardrobe is 150–240.

Serial production offers mainly two- and three-door models, with a width of 100–240 cm.

They are roomy: they have sections for hangers and a sufficient number of shelves.

Designed for a family of 2–3 people.

Internal sections
The space inside the wardrobe corresponds to the size of the door, so their number depends on the number of doors.

Accordingly, the width of the sections varies between 40–80 cm.

Depth
Standard depth ranges from 45–68 cm, optimal 60 cm.

To order they make 40 cm and 70 cm.

The double-sided cabinet is the deepest - from 80 to 120 cm.

Height
Ready-made cabinets come in two types.

High – 220–240 cm, low – 170–190 cm.

Tall models with hinged doors have mezzanine extensions.

Arrangement of shelves, sections, drawers
The height of the boxes depends on the purpose and ranges from 10 to 60 cm.

Boxes located one above the other can occupy no more than 120 cm from the floor.

The distance between the shelves depends on their purpose.

For bedding, 35-40 cm is allotted, for knitted clothing - 30-35 cm.

The height of the section for coats is 140-150 cm, for blouses, jackets - 70-100 cm, for dresses - 150-160 cm, mezzanine - 45-50 cm.

The height of the wardrobe is measured from the floor. The classic version has a plinth base. The designer wardrobe is made on legs.

A narrow cabinet with drawers successfully filled a niche in the wall

Styles

For your interior, you can choose a cabinet according to the style:

PhotoDescription

Classic
A win-win option for a modern environment.

These are laconic outlines, symmetry, an elegant look and nothing superfluous.

May have swing and compartment doors.

Exquisite decor is used for the design: stucco molding, monograms, painting, inlay, elegant baguettes.

The design is monochromatic with imitation carvings, stained glass windows, and traditional classical patterns.

This cabinet looks solid and solid.

Baroque
Involves the use of curls, stucco and ornate details.

It dominates the room with its appearance, so decorations are used to a minimum and the emphasis is on the complexity of color.

Ethnics
These are Provence, country, national motifs (Russian, Scandinavian, Japanese, English, etc.).

When installing an ethnic wardrobe, add appropriate style details to the decor (bedspreads, tablecloth, curtains, wall panels, etc.).

Modern
The style involves having a cabinet with straight lines and minimal decoration.

To decorate the doors, metal moldings and various color compositions, including photo printing, are used.

Materials

For the manufacture of wardrobes, we use MDF, chipboard and natural wood. The elite group includes a classic cabinet made of wood - it is environmentally friendly, durable, and high quality.

MDF is the most affordable and high-quality material. Imitates the structure of wood and goes well with chrome elements, glass, and mirror. It has different textures, colors, and high performance characteristics. The budget option includes chipboard.

For interior design, laminated chipboard, aluminum, plastics, and chrome steel are used.

Tips for choosing

A single-door cabinet with drawers and shelves is very easy to use, practical, and compact. But all these qualities are characteristic only of a high-quality product.

Therefore, it is so important to carefully consider his choice. The following factors should be taken into account:

  • price category - the cost of the product depends on the material used, fittings, and rarity of the color shade. If you have a sufficient budget for the purchase, it is better to give preference to more durable options: natural wood or MDF. If the budget is significantly limited, choose high-quality chipboard. It will also please you with its short service life;
  • room sizes - single-door cabinets are rarely made large, so they are often purchased specifically for small spaces. Take a close look at the place where you plan to install the piece of furniture. For free corners, take corner models, and for a place near the wall - linear ones;
  • room design style - furniture should match the style in which the room is decorated. Then the space will be beautiful and filled with comfort;
  • color scheme - a single-door corner wardrobe must certainly harmonize with the color of the room’s decoration. For tiny rooms, it is worth choosing a light model in combination with slightly lighter or brighter walls. For spacious rooms, bright colors in the decoration in combination with a cabinet of a light or medium-dark shade are quite suitable.

Design dimensions

The standard sizes of a three-door wardrobe vary:

  • From 1.5 to 3 m in width. Deviation from the standards is observed in built-in varieties with sliding door systems, however, an excessive increase in this parameter is undesirable.
  • From 1.8 to 2.2 m in height. In rooms with high ceilings, it is allowed to place models with a mezzanine up to 2.4–2.5 m, but no more.
  • From 40 to 60 cm in depth. For wardrobes with crossbars and rods for hanging clothes, this value should be the maximum possible. To store folded laundry, shelves with a depth of about half a meter are enough.

Classification of hinged 2-door wardrobes, tips for choosing

Peculiarities

When purchasing, pay attention to the following points:

When buying such a bulky cabinet, you need to remember that it takes up quite a lot of space in the room. This model is best suited for spacious rooms. Otherwise, the room will seem smaller than it really is.

When choosing a four-door model, it is worth deciding on the internal contents. You need to understand how many shelves are needed, how they will be located, whether you need a laundry basket or free space for outerwear.

You will have to think about the presence of mirrors and decor - photo printing, prints, laser drawings. And also about the material of the product and design.

A four-leaf wardrobe can be equipped with either hinged or sliding doors. The second option is more modern, practical and easy to use, but at the same time, sliding wardrobes are more likely to break than regular ones. And all this is due to the sliding door mechanism.

An overview of the finished four-leaf wardrobe with internal filling can be seen in the video below.

What will help you use the space with maximum convenience?

Another interesting point has arrived: designing a closet is not everything; you need to correctly arrange things in it. So that you can immediately see where everything is, so that it is convenient to get any thing.

What can help resolve this issue? Today, many remarkable devices have been developed that solve these problems. Let's get to know them better.

  • As we already know, the longitudinal bar for outerwear is placed at a height of 150-160 cm. But you can place dresses and suits at a higher level (especially since the built-in wardrobe allows this). Do you think it will be inconvenient? No, the elevator (pantograph) system will help us here. By pulling the handle, we lower the bar to the desired height, after which it independently rises to its original position.
  • Most people store their trousers on regular hangers, which are hung on a longitudinal rod. Wouldn't it be more convenient to use a retractable pantsuit? All the trousers are in one place, pull them out - choose.
  • Belts and ties... There is a known problem with them - they are everywhere! To forget about this inconvenience, hang them on the retractable belt and tie rack. It will not take up much space, but will accommodate the entire supply.
  • Shoes are often placed in the lower tier of closets. Roll-out shoe shelves of several types are used for it - single- and multi-tiered.
  • Try using transparent drawers or baskets - it will be very convenient. Without opening them, you can immediately determine what is in any of the sections.
  • The worst thing about little things is that there are a lot of them, they are everywhere. Small things are stored mainly in a pile, which has a habit of crumbling and creeping into all corners. By dividing one or two drawers into cells, you will get an excellent organizer for small things.

  • Summer shoes are packed in boxes for the winter, winter shoes for the entire warm period. It often takes quite a long time to find the right pair. It is much easier to number each box and label it. A more convenient solution is to photograph each pair of shoes and attach the photo to the box. You will forget about long searches.
  • Do you want even more order? Sort all the things inside the closet by color - it will be much easier to navigate. Or you can distribute them according to material: cotton with cotton, silk with silk. Here, choose for yourself - whichever is more convenient for you.

Tip: to organize the interior space of the closet, as well as to place things more compactly, use various accessories, such as multi-tiered hangers, hangers with clothespins and other small helpers.

Criterias of choice

When selecting a swing wardrobe with two doors, the following points should be taken into account:

  • the structure should not be too high and reach straight to the ceiling - this visually reduces the interior space of the room (for the same reason, in small rooms it is not recommended to additionally install mezzanines on the closet);
  • if you want to save space in the room, it would be better to prefer a corner type model;
  • the cabinet looks less massive if it stands on legs;
  • In a small room it is preferable to use light furniture, and in a large room it is preferable to use dark furniture.

And, of course, you will need to pay attention to:

  • what is the cabinet made of?
  • how the product is designed (how well it fits with the interior of the room as a whole);
  • what internal equipment does it have;
  • what price category does the selected model belong to?

Knowing all these nuances will allow you to make an unmistakable choice, and then enjoy using a reliable and high-quality cabinet for many years to come.

Zoning of internal space

Let’s immediately divide the closet into three conditional zones:

  • bottom – for storing shoes;
  • middle - the main zone, the main part of the wardrobe will be located here;
  • the top is the highest part; seasonal, rarely used items are stored here.

To make the most of the interior space of your closet, you will have to make a complete list of the things you are going to store in it.

For example, consider a “family” wardrobe, where both men’s and women’s clothing will be located. To begin dividing it into separate zones for suits, dresses, various small items, underwear, etc., you need to know their actual sizes. E. Neufert will help us here again; the figure shows the information we are interested in

Let's recalculate how many suits and dresses there will actually be, and add them in case the wardrobe increases. Now you can draw your development, divided into separate zones. At this stage, do not forget about ergonomics and plan shelves and hanger bars at a height that is comfortable for you personally!

The result should be something like this:

Be sure to install drawers for underwear, scarves, socks, etc. “small things.” Neatly folded sweaters and jumpers can be placed horizontally on the shelves.

There is very little left to do - get to know some “tricks” that will help you use the space of our closet with maximum rationality.

Types of cabinets depending on design

Modern storage systems consist of a wide variety of modules. The configuration depends on the customer’s preferences and the designer’s intentions. It is the completeness of the module that determines the level of its functionality.

Cabinet types are divided according to the following criteria:

  • storage and placement items - clothes and general use;
  • purpose - for the hallway, nursery, bedroom, living room;
  • location in the room - along the wall or corner;
  • design features - case-mounted and built-in;
  • type of door opening: swing, sliding and folding.

Pure wardrobes are now used very rarely: small-sized apartments predetermine the installation of combined models.

Built-in

A unique characteristic of built-in cabinets is their height from floor to ceiling. Such designs are most often used for small and narrow rooms. Such a cabinet will make the most of the space in a cramped hallway or small nursery, and sometimes even acts as a partition.

The furniture market offers a wide selection of built-in storage systems - the wide variety allows you to choose a cabinet for literally any room. It is very convenient to install them in niches. Simply put, in such cases, only doors are installed, and internal partitions are attached to the walls.

Based on design features, built-in structures are divided into:

  • case;
  • unframed;
  • combined.

They are decorated with mirrors, lamps and colored glass. Nowadays it is very fashionable to make inserts from 3D panels with thematic designs.

Disadvantages include the impossibility of rearrangement and high cost.

Hull

Of course, traditional classic case models will always be relevant. A wardrobe with clear lines and specific proportions is in demand when decorating an apartment in any stylistic design. It differs from built-in furniture in the presence of all the walls of the body.

Modern designs are no longer just a box for clothes, they are a real work of art by furniture makers. The facades are decorated with unusual decorative elements and paintings. Designs with carved legs are very fashionable.

In every home, sooner or later, rearrangements are made, and moving such a piece of furniture to another place will not be difficult. It is also indispensable if it is necessary to divide a room into zones, for example, for children of different sexes living together.

Design dimensions

Product sizes can be standard or non-standard. In any case, the iron cabinet will have the correct shape. Externally, it is a rectangle placed on the short side.

The standard dimensions of a single-section metal wardrobe are 1860 x 300 x 500 mm. The two-section has the following dimensions - 1860 x 800 x 500 mm.

Product sizes for kindergartens:

  • single-section - 1320 x 310 x 320 mm;
  • two-section - 1320 x 600 x 320 mm.

For metal cabinets, our own GOST has been developed under the number R 56422-2015. According to it, the product must have a name that includes:

  • letter factory designation;
  • number of doors vertically;
  • number of doors horizontally;
  • width.

For example, the name “ShK 2/2 60” means:

  • ШК - factory designation of the model;
  • 2 — number of doors vertically;
  • 2 — number of doors horizontally;
  • 60 - width in centimeters.

The weight of a standard metal cabinet depends on the thickness of the material used. Designs for adults weigh 50–70 kg. The weight of furniture for kindergartens does not exceed 30 kg

This is important for the safety of children, as cabinets can tip over.

Dimensions

Today, the furniture market offers wardrobes of various sizes - from small (narrow or low) designed for small spaces to huge combined wardrobes with a large number of compartments.

Basic wardrobe dimensions:

  • The width of the wardrobe depends on the number of doors and is at least 0.4 m for a single-leaf wardrobe (to fit boxes of shoes), optimally 0.6 m; 1-1.6 m for a double-door wardrobe; 1.5–2.4 m – for tricuspid. The door width is 0.6-0.8 m.
  • The number of doors is determined by the number of sections. Serial models have the following parameters: 2-3 doors and width 1-2.4 m. Such a closet can accommodate a sufficient number of things that can be placed on shelves in two rows, and the hanging storage compartment can accommodate the clothes of almost all family members;
  • The standard depth of a classic wardrobe is 0.6 m, but narrower models are also produced (0.45 m). With a normal cabinet depth, hanger bars are placed along the back wall, and with a reduced depth, perpendicular to it;
  • The height of serial cabinets is 2.2-2.4 m. But low models are also produced - 1.7-1.8 m;

The classic wardrobe is installed on a plinth, thanks to which the furniture can easily be moved to the wall with a plinth. Stylized wardrobes are made on legs.

Kinds

Connoisseurs of classics will love the three-door swing wardrobe, which will fit perfectly into both an antique interior and a modern room design. Such models are attractive because their facades can have a relief structure and be complemented with exquisite fittings.

A wardrobe with sliding doors is more economical in terms of space occupied when open, however, all its doors cannot be opened at the same time, although this is not a significant drawback. The advantage of this model may be a mirror for clothes, which is the front of the door.

The guides for the sashes can have a rounded shape. Such a non-standard solution will make a seemingly ordinary wardrobe the highlight of your room.

Body and façade materials

All models are made from different materials:

  • swing cabinets made of solid wood - furniture made from natural wood looks luxurious. They are considered the most expensive specimens. More often, models in a classic style are made from solid wood. Furniture is sometimes varnished, due to which it becomes shiny and acquires a special chic. Examples of hinged cabinets in the photo;
  • models made of chipboard – the chipboard material is a laminated wood-chip sheet. Chipboard cabinets look similar to solid wood products, since the furniture facades imitate the texture of wood;
  • MDF swing cabinets are strong and durable. The salons offer a large selection of different colors. Hinged cabinets are available in glossy or matte finishes. The frame of the entire structure is made of MDF, and the facades are made of natural solid wood;
  • Fiberboard is the least dense material of all of the above. Used as back walls and other cabinet parts.

Chipboard

Solid MDF
Since swing models have a closed storage system, the cabinet fronts can be decorated in different ways. The external design of a swing door product plays an important role. The following materials are used to decorate facades:

mirror - is the most popular among all types of decor. Hinged mirrored doors for a closet can be decorated with a pattern

Using a special technology for applying images to a mirror surface, you can realize original design ideas for cabinets that will attract the attention of all guests; glass - sashes are also decorated with glass, which can be regular, tinted or frosted. Glass models are perfect for books, dishes, and other valuable and original decorative elements; photo printing will make the closet unique

Using special paints, a pattern is applied to the surface of the doors; natural materials - today furniture whose facades are decorated with inserts made of genuine leather and rattan has become especially popular; Economy hinged cabinets with glossy fronts made of plastic, acrylic or PVC. They are popular due to their low cost and are considered economy class products.

Materials

All furniture is made from different materials. There are many options, before making a choice, it is worth studying their features:

  1. The most expensive designer swing wardrobes are made from natural wood. This is an environmentally friendly, strong, durable material. It has a pleasant appearance and natural, calm colors. As a rule, furniture in a classic style is made from solid wood, but it can also fit into Provence and country interiors.
  2. Models made from laminated chipboard are affordable and last quite a long time. Essentially, this is the same chipboard, but its facades are covered with melamine film, which is resistant to damage. This surface is not afraid of water and can be made in different colors, even with a natural wood texture.
  3. Modern cabinets are often made from MDF. Such furniture is also widely available and has numerous advantages. When there is no money to purchase a cabinet made of natural wood, you can choose a model made from MDF - this is a worthy alternative to solid wood. Products made from this material are distinguished by their stability, strength, and durability. They are environmentally friendly and harmless to human health.

The facades of hinged cabinets are decorated with mirrors, glass inserts, and plastic panels. The surface can be either matte or glossy, decorated with photo printing, sandblasting, floral patterns, geometric or other fancy patterns. It is worth choosing certain doors for cabinets individually, focusing on the interior of the room.

Styles and colors

When choosing a wardrobe, you need to decide on its design. It depends on the size and design of the room. It is important to take into account the inherent tonal palette of the room. Features of different designs:

  1. A wardrobe in a classic style (Baroque, Rococo, Empire style) is suitable for spacious and richly furnished rooms. It is made from natural wood. Furniture in all its natural tones and textures is common. A white cabinet with carved gold and silver decor is also traditional for the classics.
  2. Constructivism and minimalism are characterized by simplicity of geometry, laconic lines, lack of decor, and calm colors of furniture. The styles combine rationalism, logic, functionality, and comfort in everything. Common directional tones: white, black, light yellow, green, pale blue.
  3. Furniture in the Provence style is characterized by simplicity, elegance of shapes and lines, and naturalness of the materials used. The design is characterized by all the colors that are found in nature in the coastal south of France: white, blue, yellow, green, lavender, lilac, light green, pink. The furniture is made from solid wood and is often decorated with laconic carved decor.
  4. High-tech refers to modern trends. Wardrobes in this style are made of MDF, chipboard, plexiglass, glass, and metal. The furniture is characterized by straight, sharp shapes and lines, and simple decor. The design uses light colors, silver, and steel metallic.
  5. Roughly processed timber and planks, knocked together into a simple design - this is what country-style furniture looks like. The facade of a rustic cabinet is often decorated with laconic carvings. All natural colors found in nature are popular.
  6. The loft imitates the atmosphere of abandoned industrial premises and attics. Furniture in his aesthetic should be rough, massive, straightforward, similar to industrial equipment. Recommended colors: brown, sand, yellow, green, brick, metallic. The style allows for the wardrobe to be made from steel or warehouse pallets.

The colors of the furniture and room decoration should be harmoniously combined with each other. In this case, you cannot use more than three tones, otherwise the design of the room will be colorful and flashy.

Color solutions

When choosing a three-door model, special attention should be paid to color. Light shades such as milky oak and light shimo are popular

A white cabinet would be a win-win option, as this color, associated with luxury and aristocracy, evokes positive emotions. White color is a calming color and would suit a young woman’s bedroom. Milk oak has a slightly pinkish tint. A cabinet of this tone would be a good buy for a room where there is little natural light.

Products painted in light beige colors: zebrawood, maple or olive combine perfectly with many colors and decors, so they will become a real decoration of any room. One of the most popular dark shades today is wenge. The color is often used in interiors built on contrast with light and brownish tones.

Facade design options

Since the features of home interiors vary greatly from person to person, manufacturers produce cabinet models with different styles of façade design:

  • classic is elegance embodied in regular geometric shapes. Products made from expensive wood have a special charm. However, no one is still refusing budget options from laminated chipboard and MDF;
  • Art Deco is a combination of classical, avant-garde and modern elements that demonstrates the highest manifestation of luxury. The style is pretentious, which, however, does not negate its functionality;
  • country - the basic characteristics of the external appearance of furniture made in this style are practicality and the predominance of natural shades. It is unlikely that it will be a cabinet with a mirror or carvings (these elements complicate the image, while the country direction suggests simplicity). However, the doors can be covered with horizontal wooden or plastic slats that imitate closed blinds;
  • Baroque - it is assumed that such furniture will be solid and solid. It is desirable that natural wood be used for its manufacture. Distinctive features of the style are the presence of carvings in the furniture, side pilasters, and clearly visible legs. The colors are predominantly light (white, cream), there may be a pattern made in pastel colors;
  • loft is another option for lovers of discreet furniture. The facade of these 4-door hinged wardrobes is a combination of metal and wooden elements, which gives a very interesting effect, despite the neutrality of the colors used. If the surface is simply painted, then it will definitely have a worn effect;
  • Provence - decoration in light colors, and the overall decoration contains antique elements;
  • minimalism - usually such furniture does not have handles, and all lines are straight and clear. The entire structure is made up of technically advanced elements.

Any of the above options emphasizes different significant points and helps achieve different effects. You just need to decide what is necessary.
