Types of soft flooring for children's rooms
Only a children's room that is comfortable and beautiful can be called comfortable. The design of walls, ceilings, floors, placement, quality and appearance of objects are important. The floor is most often a flooring made of a homogeneous material. It can be supplemented with soft floor coverings, among which there are several types:
The floor in the nursery can be supplemented with soft floor coverings, among which are: carpet, rugs, modular soft flooring
- Carpet. In the children's room they cover the entire floor. This is a rolled material, not fluffy, and has a uniform printed pattern.
- Carpets. Products limited to certain sizes, made on a loom or by hand.
- Modular soft floor. It consists of fragments made of synthetic materials that can be combined into one canvas (like putting together a puzzle).
The purpose of soft flooring for children's rooms is as follows:
Soft flooring for children's rooms provides a pleasant tactile sensation, creates a warm layer, and complements the interior

Choosing flooring for a children's room must take into account the size of the room
Materials used to make rugs for children's rooms
Both natural and synthetic raw materials are used as materials for the manufacture of carpets for children's rooms. The basis of natural fibers are:
- cotton. The cheapest type of raw material. 95% composed of cellulose;
- wool. Sheep is mainly used. The warmest natural material;
- silk. The fiber is thin, the carpet has a high density;
- linen. The material is smooth and soft.
Both natural and synthetic raw materials are used as materials for making carpets in children's rooms.
Woven carpets are made from the above types of material. There are several other types of raw materials from which wicker products are made; they are also used in arranging rooms for children. Braided children's carpets for the floor in the nursery can be made:
- made from banana fiber, cheap and durable;
- bamboo, which has high aesthetic characteristics and performance qualities;
- coir - a product that has a rigid base and a pleasant top layer;
- jute is a fiber plant that makes beautiful mats and paths.
The following synthetic materials are used for making rugs: acrylic, nylon, polyester, polypropylene
The following are used as synthetic materials for making rugs for children's rooms:
- acrylic. Products do not lose color for a long time;
- nylon. Used as an additive in carpet threads;
- polyester. Used as an additive to yarn;
- polypropylene. The products are characterized by high thermal insulation.
Helpful advice! When purchasing a rug for a nursery, it is necessary to check the quality of the raw materials in order to correctly determine the performance characteristics of the product.

Children's carpet made from natural threads: advantages and disadvantages of products
If you ask an incompetent person a question about which carpet is most suitable for a children's room, probably without hesitation, he will answer that it is natural. The answer cannot be considered the only correct one. This carpet has both undeniable advantages and significant disadvantages.
Natural carpets can be made on machines. Such products are standard, have a perfectly even pile, a standard pattern, and certain performance qualities. There may also be handmade carpets. These products are distinguished by a unique design and originality of shape. The price of handmade carpets is quite high.
Natural carpets can be made both on machines and by hand
The main positive performance qualities of natural carpets include:
- environmental friendliness of the material;
- presentable appearance;
- high level of thermal insulation;
- long service life (under certain conditions).
A natural carpet in a child’s room also has significant disadvantages:
- gets dirty quickly;
- troublesome to clean;
- It takes a long time for traces of moisture to dry on it;
- susceptible to moths;
- Contraindicated for allergy sufferers.
The positive performance qualities of natural carpets include: environmental friendliness, appearance, thermal insulation, long service life
Caring for natural carpets in a nursery requires considerable effort. Removing stains does not always give the desired result; in such cases, the product loses its aesthetics.
Helpful advice! When choosing a natural carpet for a nursery, it is better to give preference to products with cut pile rather than looped options, which are much more difficult to clean.

The practicality of carpets for the nursery, made of synthetic materials
Carpets made from synthetic materials are actively used to decorate children's rooms. This choice of many parents is not accidental. Modern methods of manufacturing artificial fibers are so technologically advanced that they make it possible to produce carpet products with high quality characteristics.

Polypropylene carpets are especially popular. This material is obtained by processing petroleum products. Such products have a low price and have a number of the following advantages:
- do not become electrified and do not accumulate static voltage (do not attract dust);
- pleasant to the touch;
- the material is hypoallergenic, can be used in any child’s room;
- do not fade in the sun;
- are not afraid of moisture;
- moths and dust mites do not grow in them;
- easy to clean.
Disadvantages include a shorter service life and lower thermal insulation during the cold season compared to natural carpets. The pile of such products is deformed under prolonged mechanical influence (do not place heavy furniture).

A children's rug can be an excellent option for artificial flooring. This product is lint-free, it does not have colorful patterns, and is perfect for a room with a bright interior. The absence of lint has a huge advantage: the coating is easy to clean, which simplifies maintenance and ensures compliance with hygienic requirements.
Soft modular covering: puzzle-carpet on the floor in the nursery
The use of EVA soft flooring in children's rooms is gaining popularity. The abbreviation stands for ethylene vinyl acetate. It sounds “menacingly synthetic.” In fact, this flooring is an excellent option for a children's room. You just need to be sure that you are purchasing certified products.
The use of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) soft flooring in children's rooms is gaining popularity.
EVA is foam rubber. The soft carpet made from it is a puzzle in the form of squares. After assembly, sealed seams remain, which are completely invisible if the fragments are the same color. The main performance characteristics of such flooring are:
- easy assembly, ability to play with colors;
- high noise insulation;
- shock-absorbing effect when a child falls;
- lightness and flexibility of the material;
- sensation of warmth upon tactile contact;
- not exposed to ultraviolet radiation;
- does not attract dust;
- easy care (wash with a sponge and a light soap solution).

Comparing the functional characteristics of a soft EVA floor with a carpet in a children's room, it should be noted that the latter is significantly inferior both in ease of maintenance and in performance indicators.
Helpful advice! If a modular soft floor is purchased for a long time, it is better to take the option without patterns. With constant mechanical impact, they are to a small extent, but still wiped out - and aesthetics suffer from this.

The price tag will tell the truth.
When buying a carpet, it is worth knowing the meaning of the main symbols (pictograms) located on the label. You will find important information there, for example about carpet maintenance. The most commonly used symbols are symbols warning that this product is not suitable for dry cleaning or washing or wet cleaning. The label will tell you about the properties of the product, non-flammability or resistance to sunlight, moths and bacteria. On the label you can find all sorts of brand markings, indicating that the carpet meets certain quality standards. The most common designation is the international Woolmark, awarded to products of the highest quality made from pure, virgin wool, or the Wools of New Zealand, which guarantees that New Zealand wool, considered the best in the world, was used in production.
Interesting interior and comfortable sleep: carpet for the wall in the nursery
Quite often the bed in a children's room occupies a wall position. Several problems may arise in this regard:
- the wall in the sleeping area is being rubbed down;
- in the cold season, unnecessary coolness appears from the side of the wall;
- During sleep, the child involuntarily throws off the blanket; touching the wall causes discomfort.
The requirements for wall hangings are basically the same as for floor hangings.
All of the above problems can be solved in one way - hanging a children's rug on the wall. The requirements for wall hangings are basically the same as for floor hangings. These are anti-allergenic, heat dissipating, easy to clean and aesthetically pleasing. The design of the wall rug should match the overall design style of the room. It is better if the wall option has short pile. Such models have a more expressive pattern, and during everyday use they do not lose their appearance due to the bending of the pile.
Pictures of carpets posted on the Internet offer a wide variety of bedside models. These include options for the little ones with images of positive bunnies, bears, caterpillars, etc., as well as carpets for older children that imitate a flower meadow and a rainbow. These can be stylish models for teenagers with a plain base and an abstract pattern, with geometric elements.

The products are made from both thick wool and lighter silk and linen. There are quite a few models made from synthetic threads, which in terms of performance and aesthetic characteristics are in no way inferior to natural ones.
Helpful advice! When hanging a carpet on a wall, you should lower it at least 5 cm below the level of the sleeping place. Having even a small amount of uncovered wall will significantly reduce the thermal insulation effect.

Review of popular manufacturers
The modern market is replete with manufacturers of children's pile products, which can be difficult to understand.
Manufacturers of children's carpets:
- Parklon - create coatings from food-grade polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride. The products are colorful, hypoallergenic and moisture resistant.
- Polo is a company that produces educational rugs with bright patterns. There are also double-sided options.
- Tiny love - creates educational models for babies with arcs on which toys and rattles are hung.
- Funky ugo lime and Ana pink are a Polish manufacturer that creates educational products with a variety of designs and colors.
- Associated Weavers is a Belgian company that produces high-quality Little Goliath carpet, distinguished by a rich color palette.
- Dwinguler - the company produces rugs for children up to 7 years old. The fabric is soft, durable and lightweight. It is convenient to play and develop on it, since the products are produced with images of animals, plants, the alphabet and numbers.
- Kovrenok is a Russian manufacturer that offers various options for children's coverings at an affordable price. Vitebsk factories offer a wide range.
- Disney is a company that produces carpets with images of Disney characters.
Interesting options for floor carpets: photos of children's room interiors
Online catalogs offer a lot of options for carpet products, but the perception of the model separately and in the interior sometimes varies significantly. Therefore, when choosing a product, it is better to look at photos of the interior. This will not only give a more complete picture of the product, but also suggest an interesting interior idea.
The photos will help you choose the option of modern floor carpets for girls and boys. For girls, designers offer both options with butterflies, flowers, fairy-tale elements, and plain ones that enhance one of the shades of the room’s design. These should be soft and pleasant colors; the emphasis in such a children's room is on other objects.
Carpets for boys are often models with discreet patterns
For boys, carpets are offered mainly with medium and short pile, so that it is convenient to move cars and other toy vehicles. The drawing is distinguished by regular lines and clear outlines. It is recommended to choose a muted but deep color so that it does not irritate, but causes a pleasant sensation.
Designers also offer unisex carpets for children. These options are convenient for rooms where there are two children of different sexes. More often these are monochromatic models with a discreet pattern. Products with asymmetrical patterns or abstractions look especially interesting.
For boys, short-pile carpets are offered to make it convenient to move cars and other toy vehicles
Pile length
Various mats and rugs are lint-free coverings. They are easy to vacuum and wash. At the same time, they are hard, and a child who spends a lot of time on the floor can rub their knees.
Lying and tumbling on it is also unpleasant. The best choice is a soft, shag carpet.
Floor products are:
- cut - the pile is cut at different heights or in the form of a pattern;
- combined from loops and pile;
- with short or long pile;
- with a velor-like treatment;
- with curled pile.
Simple and original do-it-yourself rugs for the nursery
The flooring is a bright detail of the interior. If you want to complement the design with something original, you can make a rug for the nursery with your own hands, for example, knit it. This requires certain skills. If you don’t have them, watching videos on the Internet will help you acquire the necessary skills.
The materials you should use are a crochet hook (or thick knitting needles) and thick yarn. If there is no yarn of a suitable thickness, you can make a rope from thin threads using air loops, and then knit a rug from it. The ability to manually apply the shades necessary for the interior and make a product of the desired shape and size is a big advantage compared to using ready-made products.
When starting to make a rug for a nursery with your own hands, you need to be sure that after cleaning it will not lose its appearance
You can knit a rug for a nursery from old knitted items, first unraveling them into threads. Products made from them are soft, warm and voluminous.
You can also make interesting woven rugs with your own hands. For weaving you will need ribbons made of fabric, but more dense than knitwear. This could be old wool blankets, drape coats or jackets, upholstery fabric, etc. You can make a leather rug. It’s easy to come up with weaving methods yourself, but it’s even easier to choose from the options offered on the Internet.

Material
Pay special attention to the choice of material from which the product is made. A lot depends on its quality: how well it will warm the feet in the cold season, whether it will make the nursery cozy, whether it will be able to muffle sounds so as not to disturb the baby’s sleep
Wool. One of the popular materials, characterized by durability, excellent environmental qualities, warmth and safety. Made from the highest quality wool, this coating is completely non-allergenic. Disadvantages include high cost and capriciousness in care (wool does not tolerate wet cleaning and is sensitive to rough, hard brushes).
A soft carpet is a must-have element for a child's room.
A beige wool rug will add warmth and comfort to a child's room.
- Synthetics. Synthetic carpets (polyamide, acrylic or polyacrylic) are very soft and attractive. Such coatings have the ability to effectively repel dirt and dust from their surface. They will delight mothers with easy, universal care (they can be cleaned with any means, washed and taken out into the snow). They are also attractive in price. The disadvantages of such carpets include low environmental qualities, low elasticity of the pile and poor heat transfer. Synthetic carpets are “cold”.
- Polypropylene. One of the popular carpets for children's rooms is polyethylene foam flooring. Modern material is simply unique. High hygienic and environmental qualities are combined with excellent noise and heat insulation. Polypropylene carpets are absolutely non-allergenic, they do not absorb foreign odors and repel dirt and moisture. In addition, this coating weighs very little, which is good for transportation.
Advice! Do not cover the entire floor in the nursery with carpet - it will then be too difficult to remove for thorough cleaning. It’s better to zone the room and decorate each zone with a separate rug (for playing, at the work table, by the bed).
Physical development of a child: mats for a children's room as a safety measure
If the child’s room has an area where stationary equipment is located (wall bars, rings, rope, horizontal bar, etc.), a sports mat is required. Roll mats are a convenient option. No soft rug or modular floor can replace them. Unable to stay on the equipment, the child must fall onto a covering of sufficient thickness to avoid injury.
These mats-mats for the room are very comfortable. They roll up easily, therefore, if necessary, the covering can be easily moved to another place, and it is easy to clean the floor underneath it. It is better to use products with a thickness of 40–45 mm. These dimensions will ensure maximum safety.
Unable to stay on the equipment, the child must fall onto a covering of sufficient thickness to avoid injury.
Mats are made from polyethylene foam, fragments of which are chemically stitched together. The material does not crumble, does not crack, does not absorb moisture, and there are no traces of dents on it. The color and appearance are not lost over many years. The top covering of the mats consists of PVC. No glue is used for fastening; it is done thermally, which makes the product more environmentally friendly.
Roll mats are available in various sizes and shades, so it’s easy to choose an option for a specific interior.

Which is better - carpet or carpet?
Carpet is a material that completely covers the area of a room and is secured with baseboards. Many parents choose this option for children's rooms.
Advantages:
- stylish appearance;
- convenience - does not slip on the floor, edges do not curl;
- no need to knock out;
- saves money - there is no need to lay laminate or linoleum under the carpet.
Children's rugs are mobile and easier to clean. However, natural products and high-quality artificial models are more expensive than carpet.
Flaws:
- cannot be removed temporarily - if a child likes to draw, then to protect the coating it is covered with film or polyethylene;
- does not tolerate wet cleaning;
- there are dust mites in the carpet;
- The jute-based coating may warp due to high humidity.
Parents decide which covering is best to lay based on their preferences and budget.
Carpet for a children's room: functionality of products depending on their size
Conventionally, carpets are divided into small ones - up to 100x150 cm; medium - up to 150x200 cm; large ones - 200 x 300 cm. These figures are to a certain extent arbitrary values. The choice of certain parameters should not always depend on the size of the room as a whole. To prevent a beautiful carpet from being a bright, but purely decorative object, it would be useful to listen to some advice from designers on arranging a children's room.
Small rugs should be used if there is a need to highlight several areas, for example, a play area, a bedside area, near the sofa, etc. An interesting solution would be to put several rugs of the same quality, but of different shapes: round, square and rectangular (or oval) .
Large carpets are suitable for large amounts of free space
Medium-sized carpets are appropriate if you plan to lay flooring, combining several areas: a play area and a bed area. Such a carpet is also suitable for a play corner if the area allocated for it is large.
Large carpets are suitable for large amounts of free space intended for the child’s physical activity. A rug can be an excellent option for such purposes. Photos of models on the Internet demonstrate not only the original design, but also interesting ways of placing floor coverings of this type.
Small rugs should be used if there is a need to highlight several zones
For rooms with a non-standard layout or a complex interior, it is recommended to use puzzle carpets, with which you can give the covering the desired shape and size.
How to choose colors for different interiors
When trying to choose a shade, it is important to consider the basic color scheme in the already created design. Here the coating will work according to one of the principles:
- Creating contrast. That is, the laid carpet differs in shade from the floor, walls, and main pieces of furniture.
- Creating a background or base. The carpet serves as a kind of canvas, onto which small decorative items of other shades are later placed. As an example, beige furniture, walls and floors of different tones. And the rest of the items are coral, blue, yellow, orange, and other shades.
- Connection of two zones. The shade of the woven floor and any bright spot in the design should be combined.
In addition, when choosing the color of the carpet, it is worth considering that in cold northern rooms it is better to lay or place any items of warm colors. These are all shades of brown, red, yellow. They seem to add light to the room and make it more comfortable.
In very sunny rooms, on the contrary, it is worth choosing a coating of a cool color scheme. White, all shades of blue, light blue, gray, olive, pink.
Remember that purple is a universal color and looks equally organic in both cold and warm rooms.
Designers recommend choosing the shade of the floor carpet according to the following principles:
Match curtains, walls or furniture
But it is important not to overdo it with the main color. Otherwise the room will look like one big spot.
It is better to choose different tones of the same shade. Contrasting color with respect to the main floor covering (laminate, parquet, linoleum). Match the shade of large decorative items (wall panels, large sofa cushions). Like the opposite tone of the furniture and walls of the room.
If you really want to lay a multi-colored carpet on the floor, then it is important to ensure that its shade matches the color of the largest pattern on another piece of furniture. Additionally, you need to remember what effect the selected tone of the product will produce - relax, invigorate, stimulate appetite, calm
Consider the traffic flow of the room. If the room is intended for a large and constant crowd of people, white is unlikely, beige shades would be appropriate here

For Provence, shabby chic, retro or country styles, you can buy a coating with the effect of faded colors. Such aging will give the room a special charm.
Flooring for a children's playroom
If there is a sufficient number of free rooms, a separate playroom is organized for preschool children. To make it cozy and comfortable, the floor should be covered. When choosing a floor covering, it is worth considering some operational features of this room:
To make the children's playroom cozy and comfortable, the floor should be covered with
- Role-playing games are the main activity of children of this age. It is better if the carpet is of a size that allows the child to organize games within the soft surface.
- Given the increased physical activity of children, you should not use mats with a slippery surface.
- The carpet for a children's room should be stationary. If necessary, it should be fixed.
- Many bright object designs on the carpet are suitable for a child up to 3-4 years old. For older children, the variegation makes it difficult to perceive parts of toys that match the color of the carpet.
- You should not lay the carpet in the playroom close to cabinets and shelving. The part adjacent to the furniture will not be used for games.
You should not purchase flooring for your playroom that is difficult to clean during cleaning.
The photos of modern carpets for playrooms illustrate a wide variety of models. When designing such rooms, the dominant feature is color. Therefore, you should select a coating based most of all on the harmony of shades.
Helpful advice! You should not purchase flooring for your playroom that is difficult to clean during cleaning. In addition to using a vacuum cleaner, the floor under the carpet should be washed at least 2 times a week.
When designing a children's playroom, the dominant feature is color, including the flooring.
REMOVING STAINS FROM CARPET
If you move quickly to remove a carpet stain, you may only need room temperature water. Use a paper towel to collect as much liquid as possible from the surface. Movements are directed from the outer part of the stain to the center to avoid smearing the stain. If necessary, use a soap solution. Do not walk on a wet area until it dries. If you are unable to clean the stain yourself, you should contact a specialized cleaning company.

Stylized types of flooring for a children's room
Carpet design is the shape, size, type of material, manufacturing method, color scheme and decorative effect. Modern designers have added developmental components to this list. Children's carpets-cards are especially popular. They not only fulfill their main purpose, but also give the child the opportunity to get acquainted with parts of the world in a relaxed atmosphere, which is most conducive to memorization.
A children's carpet-road should be considered no less educational. You can have an exciting trip in your toy car and gain first knowledge of the rules of the road. Communication between adults and children in such conditions becomes more interesting and meaningful.
A wonderful addition to the interior is the carpet-road
The original floor covering is rugs that imitate a soccer ball or skateboard. For boys who are passionate about sports, such options evoke positive emotions. The trend towards functionality can be seen not only in the interiors of rooms for adults, but also in the design of children's rooms. The use of “concrete objects” as design ideas is a clear confirmation of this.
White carpets are a great addition to the interior. In children's rooms they acquire special expressiveness. More often these are fleecy products, reminiscent of fluffy snow, into which a child plunges, absorbed in exciting games.
Carpet design is the shape, size, material, manufacturing method, color, and also developmental components
Interactive carpets
Interactive carpets will delight a child of any age. Manufacturers offer many models for boys and girls, where the surface becomes a playing field.
Designs are created to suit every taste:
- adventure games;
- for boys - cities with roads and road signs by which you can learn the rules of the road;
- for girls - an embroidered image of an apartment on which you can arrange furniture and seat dolls; classics or twister.
Unusual interactive models, on which designs are embroidered, and different lengths of pile provide a 3D effect, create three-dimensional “living” images, so it’s interesting to play with them. “House”, “Dacha”, “Racing”, “Mini-City” - a small list of models that create an unusual design in the nursery and provide an exciting activity.
Such a product can be different in size - from a field of 1 m × 1 m, to a full-fledged carpet three meters long, which will occupy the entire space of the room.
Children's floor mat: how and with what means to clean
A very important aspect of carpet care is cleaning. The process must balance efficiency and safety. Quite often, potent products are not environmentally friendly, and those that comply with environmental standards are ineffective. The issue of choosing cleaning products arises especially acutely when it is necessary to clean the rug in the nursery.
How to do this as safely as possible and with good results? The best way is to take it to the dry cleaner, but not everyone has this option. At home, you can use the following tips:
Proper care of children's carpets will create the necessary hygienic conditions, preserve their appearance and extend their service life.
- To clean high-pile carpets (both natural and synthetic materials), use a steam cleaner and foam detergents. Recommended – Tuba, Nordland, Meine Liebe, Luxus Carpet cleaner.
- Acrylic rugs can be easily cleaned using special shampoos. This could be Carpet Shampoo, “Magic Carpet”.
Helpful advice! Such carpets should not be cleaned with the rather popular Vanish product. It is less environmentally friendly and more aggressive - the pile will gradually be damaged.
Foam detergents should be used to clean high-pile carpets.
Separately, it is worth mentioning floor mats for children made of polypropylene: they are convenient and safe to clean with baking soda. To do this, you can sprinkle the powder with rubbing movements, then wait 20–30 minutes and vacuum up. It is also effective to use a soda solution. For this purpose, you should dissolve 100 grams of soda in 5 liters of water. Then you need to spray the product, but make sure that the carpet does not get too wet, let it dry, and vacuum it on both sides.
Proper care of children's carpets will create the necessary hygienic conditions, preserve their appearance and extend their service life.
Peculiarities
For the nursery, they most often choose the warmest and brightest room in the apartment so that the child feels comfortable and warm here. When choosing materials for its decoration, parents try to ensure that they are environmentally friendly and do not cause allergic reactions in the baby.
Advantages of a carpet in a nursery
There are also many arguments in favor of the carpet:
- Children spend a lot of time playing on the floor;
- A warm rug will protect your child from colds;
- For babies just starting to walk, parquet or laminate will seem slippery; soft material is more convenient for mastering the first steps;
- Older children, playing games of hide and seek or catch-up, can also slip and get injured, and carpeting will protect them from this;
- The carpet is an important element of the design of the room; without it, it will not be possible to create comfort in it.
A soft mat will make playing on the floor safer
Disadvantages of carpeting
Modern carpets are mostly synthetic materials; it is difficult to judge environmental friendliness and safety here - carpets quickly absorb dust, and often it causes allergies in a child more than the coating itself. Natural carpets are incredibly expensive, and laying them on the floor in a nursery is an unaffordable luxury.
You can use a small rug at the foot of the bed
So, there are still more arguments for the fact that a children's room needs a carpet. Then the next question will arise - which floor covering to choose?
Choosing a carpet according to the baby’s age
Ideally, such things should be durable and reliable as the child grows. It is in the first years of a little person’s life that the carpet serves as both a heat insulator and an insurer against painful bruises when first trying to walk, and, in general, the aesthetic properties of these objects have not been canceled either.
The main wish is convenience and functionality when cleaning the room. This condition is satisfied by products with short pile, as they are easier to clean and accumulate less dust and other small particles.
As the child grows, along with a change in his worldview, the surrounding objects and the space of the room itself must be transformed.
If in the first six months the carpet is not useful at all, then for the next 3-4 years it will become the most used item. On it, the child begins to crawl, then walk, and then run, jump and play. That is, this will be the time and place of the most active activity and pastime. Games and pranks, learning and curiosity are integral to children's consciousness under the age of six. At this time, not only the development of motor function, the ability to navigate in space, the development of coordination of movements occurs, but character and the ability to overcome certain obstacles are formed. Outdoor games, as well as activities with construction sets and other toys, take place on the floor. This is where a high-quality carpet should play its role. The main requirements for a carpet are, in addition to quality, its size. It should cover, if possible, the main part of the room, and even secluded corners where small children like to arrange their hiding places. The carpet should not slide on the floor, thereby preventing falls. Under no circumstances should the edges be bent, which could cause the child to get caught and hit the sharp corner of any object.
The next significant stage in a child’s life is the beginning of school life. The space of a children's room changes dramatically. A desk or computer desk, an armchair, bookshelves and cabinets appear, and a crib gives way to a more adult option. As the number of things increases, the available space for games decreases. In connection with these rearrangements, instead of a large carpet, you can lay a smaller one in the center of the room. And in the summer, remove it completely - less dust will accumulate and it will become cooler. For a schoolchild, a regular bedside rug will be useful.
By and large, despite all the positive aspects of carpets, they still remain the main condensers of dust and other small contaminants. Therefore, careful care of carpets is the main condition for maintaining cleanliness and order, especially in a children's room.
So, is there a difference or not - walking on a smooth surface of linoleum, parquet or preferring a carpet? Dust forms equally on any area, only its behavior depends on the type of floor. At the first draft on an open surface, all the dust rises into the air, while the pile of the carpet inhibits the active spread of dirt in the space. Therefore, there is still a controversial issue regarding carpets, as the main sources of disorder. With proper care, cleanliness will be maintained in any room.
Currently, the industry produces high-performance vacuum cleaners that can cope with all types of dust and other particles. And the variety of materials from which carpets are made guarantees the creation of comfort and coziness, and the possibility of high-quality cleaning. Not only natural carpets, but also many synthetic ones provide complete allergenic safety and harmlessness.
Materials used
The health of the child is of paramount importance, therefore the material from which the rug for the children's room is made must be environmentally friendly. There can be many material options, but basically, carpets are divided into two groups: natural and artificial. Both have a number of advantages and disadvantages.
Let's start with artificial materials, one of which is polyethylene foam. Carpets made from it have good thermal insulation, so your child will always be warm and comfortable playing on it. They easily absorb and evaporate moisture, while being lightweight. Such models are very mobile, they are easy to move or take with you to the dacha. Due to their weight, such models will not be pressed tightly to the floor and will have to be constantly adjusted. The child can be very mobile, and in this case the non-polyethylene carpet will constantly move out. This may be inconvenient.
But polypropylene carpets are heavier due to their dense structure. Polypropylene is inexpensive, does not cause allergic reactions, is easy to care for, and does not cause static electricity. This material does not accumulate dust and is very easy to clean, which is a definite plus for a child’s room. But there are some drawbacks: polypropylene quickly deforms and loses its appearance, so such mats will last no more than 4 years.
Turkish carpets made of polyester and polyamide have similar characteristics. As a rule, they have a longer soft pile, and feel reminiscent of fur or wool models.
A good option for a child’s room would be hypoallergenic knitted models or models made from knitted yarn. They can be with or without pile, it all depends on the model. For example, in stores you can often find special rugs made from pompoms. Due to their texture, they can soften a child’s fall if necessary. In addition, they are pleasant to touch, and a baby who is just learning to crawl will be very interested in exploring such an unusual object tactilely.
Natural products are often more expensive, although their characteristics are not always superior to those made from artificial materials. And all because they have two significant disadvantages: difficulty in operation and the absence of such characteristics as hypoallergenicity
Therefore, rugs made from natural materials should be selected with extreme caution for the nursery.
Children's rugs made of viscose can be called moisture-resistant. They have good ventilation and are not electrified. The tactile sensations are reminiscent of models made of natural silk, but in terms of cost they are, of course, much cheaper, which allows you to change them often.
Models made from natural silk are best used not for a child’s room, but for a teenager’s room. Such models look very elegant and majestic, but they are also quite easy to spoil. It is enough to spill paint on them or drop plasticine, and that’s it, stains cannot be avoided. At the same time, frequent washing will lead to rapid wear. So such a carpet will not fit in a baby’s room.
Cotton models wear out and fade quickly, but they are easy to care for. It is enough to walk over them with a vacuum cleaner or wash them in a machine using soft powders and conditioner.
Rugs made from natural wool are very pleasant to the touch, so using them is a pleasure. In addition, they look chic, and they will have this appearance for many years. It's very practical. Such carpets do not accumulate static stress and do not fade over time. Another significant advantage of this material is fire safety.
However, you need to be careful with products made from pure wool: such a carpet is not hypoallergenic. Therefore, experts advise choosing rugs made from mixed materials. They are safer for the baby’s health, and the quality is not inferior to models made from completely natural materials. But at the same time, you should not be afraid of synthetics. Contrary to popular belief about its harm, it can be of high quality and environmentally friendly.
