BED LINEN FOR A DOLL

Perhaps every doll has a bed, so I sewed bed linen for the doll In general, I love sewing things for dolls from towels. They are beautiful, they are inexpensive here in Ivanovo, although this fabric is very loose, so you have to carefully handle the edges. My dolls also have an unusual four-poster bed, but more on that a little later.

For a little girl with a rag doll, doll bedding can be very simple: a mattress, a blanket and a pillow. For Annabelle, who has a soft body, the blanket and pillow are made of fleece, and the mattress is made of flannel. For stuffing I used holofiber from an old pillow. This fabric does not fray, so even the cuts did not have to be processed.

But an ordinary soft scarf folded in several layers can become a mattress. Along the edge on all sides, the scarf must be basted with long, weak stitches to create a soft mattress. We sew it 3-4 cm longer than the doll or according to the size of the crib.

You can sew it into a mattress from fabric - this is an ordinary bag, inside of which we put padding polyester, batting or something soft, for example, remnants of woolen threads. Then we sew up the last unsewn side by hand. The pillow is sewn in the same way. The blanket can be cut from any non-fraying fabric, for example, as in this photo, from fleece

I'm telling you how to make a quilt (not my idea). In the photo there is a future blanket for a bunk bed that is in a dollhouse in a children's nursery. So, I sewed a blanket cover, turned it inside out, steamed it with an iron and drew a grid (4 squares by 4, each equal to 5 cm by 5.5 cm + 1 cm).

The pillows also contain ecofiber.

I thought for a long time about how wide this blanket should be: the bed is a double, which means we need to take into account the width of the bed + the height of the blanket for two dolls, and I really didn’t want it to hang too much from the bed, and there was also a blanket on top.

I sewed almost the same accessories and bedding for the bed of our schoolgirl doll.

Why does a dollhouse need bedding for a crib?

It would seem that dolls can definitely do without bed linen, so why waste time? Look for ready-made kits on sale or do handicrafts... In fact, linen for dolls plays an important role (of course, not for the dolls themselves), and for these reasons:

How to sew a pillowcase

Select the desired size of fabric, cut out two parts from the fabric, sew around the perimeter, leaving about a 10 cm gap

Centering the design, cut out the fabric for the pillowcase, take a ruffle or braid, step back 1-2 mm from the edging of the ornament and adjust it inward

The pillow should be 3 cm larger on all sides than the space occupied by the baby doll's head.

Turn it over and, focusing on the contour, grind the part, retreating 1-2 mm

Next, put marks similar to the first dimensions. The third segment should be equal to 1/3 of the full measurements.

We overcast the internal seams, turn them inside out, sew on beautiful buttons and make loops for them

Now cut out the resulting segment, sew a gap to the main part (which was 1/3 of the pillow). Then fold the resulting rectangle (or square) in half and sew on both sides. The pillowcase is ready.

We make a sheet, add 5 cm to the size of the mattress on each side, bend the edges

With this subject things are easiest. The sheet should be 2-3 cm larger than the doll's bed (depending on the height of the bed).

All you have to do is measure the dimensions of the bed, cut a rectangle of the appropriate size, and hem it around the perimeter.

If desired, you can add ruffles and fringe.

Do I need a duvet cover?

The question of a duvet cover often arises here. Is it needed? The answer depends on the blanket you have. If it is tight, a cover will come in handy. If it is thin, this part of the textile is superfluous.

A good sleep is very important!) And who would argue with that?)) I want our dolls to be able to “relax” and “see” good dreams in cozy cribs, in warm and soft beds)

It just so happened that it was with Kira that we decided to make a bed, that’s why the name of the topic is - with wishes of sweet and good dreams to Kirochka) But of course, other girls (my favorite dolls) managed to pamper themselves in the bed, Kira is not greedy))

At one time, on occasion, I bought just such an ordinary crib. I was very glad that she at least somehow fits the size of my favorite Gotz dolls))

I should add that the crib served us in topics about Kirochka: it was involved in the decorations, helped us create a village “entourage”))

But in the form in which the bed was bought, it certainly did not satisfy either me or my dolls - a flat pillow in a synthetic rustling “wrapper” and a kind of mattress, or even a bedspread, made of the same synthetics.
