Moreover, this method is not only rightfully considered one of the cheapest, but also practical. This furniture will be environmentally friendly and will fit perfectly into the existing interior. To create a bed from pallets you will need some free time and basic skills in handling tools. All the necessary materials can be purchased at the nearest hardware store, and the tools can be found in the utility room.

    Double bed made from pallets

You can personalize your new furniture by using your own imagination and paint. Pallets are usually used when transporting building materials, but they can act as the main material for making an unusual and durable bed.

Preparing to create a bed from pallets

Before you start making a bed from pallets, you should understand what this material is. Popularly also called pallets and used for transporting large-diameter cargo. Both new and previously used materials are suitable for handmade. Specialized companies will be happy to provide all the necessary information to customers and help them choose the best option in terms of price-quality ratio.

    Standardized dimensions:

    1. Euro pallets.
    2. Standard (20 cm larger than their foreign counterparts).

Before you begin assembling the furniture frame, it is recommended to prepare all the necessary materials. For this you will need:

    1. It is better to use time-tested self-tapping screws as fasteners. The nails will become loose.
    2. When reusing pallets, all blackened and rotten ones are removed away.
    3. The surface of the material is sanded using sandpaper (protective clothing will not hurt).
    4. The boards are primed and covered with varnish or paint.

The legs of the pallets can be removed, but cleaning, in this case, will be very complicated. It is better to think through the stand or legs in advance and decorate them. All resulting voids are filled with useful little things, such as magazines, books or figurines. It is also worth filling the space with drawers in which you can store clothes or bedding.

In order to build a standard bed, you will need:

    • brush or roller;
    • grinding machine or sandpaper;
    • paint and varnish material;
    • soil mixture;
    • several pallets.

The number of pallets will depend on the size and complexity of the structure that was customarily built at home. On average, one bed will require three to five pallets.

Pros and cons of using pallets

Many modern designers use pallets as a stylish solution to furnishing problems. Availability is their main advantage. Material such as pallets are often left behind after renovations. Otherwise, they can always be purchased for a nominal fee in stores.

In order to create a full-fledged bed, you will need only a few pallets, so there can be no question of any blow to the family budget. In addition, due to the low cost, the desire to experiment will be very relevant. This way you can create a really interesting bed for lovers or a child. Textiles, varnishes and paints are used as auxiliary materials for decoration.

In addition to numerous advantages, such designs also have disadvantages. For example, it will not be possible to take such a bed outside or even out of the room, since the frame made of pallets is not designed for this. It is also not recommended to use pallet frames in rooms with high humidity levels. If there is excessive moisture, the wood will quickly deteriorate.

It is recommended to carry out a number of additional manipulations to preserve the base material, which includes the application of a special protective composition. Elevated temperatures also have a negative impact on the overall condition of the pallets. It is not recommended to install such structures near the fireplace.

    Description

Pallets are wooden structures for transporting or storing different types of cargo. They are also called pallets. A standard pallet consists of wooden boards that are located at a short distance from each other. This arrangement of elements makes the pallet very durable and resistant to heavy loads. As a rule, pallets weigh 16 kg, but in some cases the weight may increase, for example, when the wood gets wet. The length of the product is 120 cm and the width is 100 cm.

The sizes of Euro pallets are slightly different

Note! In the manufacture of pallets, durable types of wood are used so that the finished structure can withstand heavy weight and transportation. Wooden products can withstand weights of several hundred kilograms; even old and used pallets are suitable for furniture.

Buying them is not so difficult, because on the Internet there are many advertisements for the sale of these wooden structures. You can contact a transport company in your city or visit a pallet production facility. As a rule, such products are given away purely for a nominal fee or completely free of charge (we are talking about used goods).

    Types of pallets

Calculation of the number of pallets

Before you select the materials necessary to create a bed, you should make calculations regarding its future dimensions. The level of comfort and general well-being of the owner will depend on this. You should focus on standardized dimensions, which are based on the age and height of the person. The length of the bed should be greater than the dimensions of the person. Some people like to sleep with their knees slightly bent (schoolchildren), which should also be taken into account when choosing the width of the product. For normal and comfortable sleep, one person will need a sleeping place measuring 190x80 cm. But for a double bed, the standards are 190x160 cm .

In order to correctly calculate the required number of Euro pallets, you will need to take into account not only the height of the person, but also the purpose of the bed. In small apartments, the bedroom also serves as a guest room, where all family members watch TV. Also, if one of the family members sleeps restlessly and often tosses and turns in his sleep, then the sleeping area should be made wider. But making a Euro bed from pallets for only one person would not be advisable. The feeling of safety and comfort will disappear. In addition, the cost of a euro set of pastel linen is high, and such expenses can be avoided.

    Types and sizes of pallets

When using Euro pallets, special attention is paid to the height of the materials. The low option involves the use of pallets 300 mm high. If you plan to make a high bed, the ideal option would be 90 cm. However, this will add trouble to housewives who will have to clean in a tight space. Interior style should not be left aside, since not every room will have a high bed that will look harmonious. Only by studying the chosen style can you accurately determine the correct design of a pallet bed.

    additional characteristics

Much will depend on the age of the future owner of the bed. Height can be a lifesaver for an elderly person and an insurmountable obstacle for a small child. With diseases associated with joints, it will be difficult for a person to squat or bend low, and a high bed will come in handy. When creating a single bed, you will need several pallets measuring 120x100 cm, and for a double bed, four such pallets. The size, if necessary, can be adjusted when assembling the product.

If the room is spacious, then you can make a Euro-size bed. If there is not enough free space, the bed can be made smaller than the standard one.

To save significant money, you can do all the necessary work yourself. Thus, pine boards are not subject to rotting, are resistant to temperature changes and are not afraid of moisture, compared to other types of wood. To make a pallet you will need beams 50x50 mm and the boards themselves 25x105 mm, a screwdriver, a screwdriver and some free time. For greater reliability, it is recommended to make the distance between the boards no more than 10 cm. Self-tapping screws are used as fastenings, which are screwed in using a screwdriver and a screwdriver. A single bed is enough for a child's room. When creating a multi-level structure, you will need about six euro-sized pallets.

Making a pallet with your own hands

    Creation technology

There is no single instruction on how to make a bed from pallets with your own hands. This process in each specific case has its own characteristics, since the master’s flight of imagination is not limited by anything. Let us describe the main stages of creating individual structural elements of the future sleeping bed from wooden pallets.

    Base

Pallets are an excellent material for making a reliable and strong base for a bed. The standard size of such material is 120*80 cm. The technology for making a bed from pallets with your own hands involves performing preparatory work. First, you need to carefully inspect the pallets for contamination. If clean material is selected, it is simply wiped clean of dust. If the pallets have been used, they will need to be cleaned of adhering dirt and dust. Use a broom, brush and damp cloth to make the work go faster and the result to be of the highest quality. If assembly will be done outside, you can use a garden hose to rinse off the trays. Next, the material must be allowed to dry.

After final drying, the material must be thoroughly sanded. To do this, use fine sandpaper, a special grinder or a drill brush. Working with tools will go faster, and the result will be better. Wooden surfaces are carefully processed so that the homemade bed is as safe as possible during use. Poorly treated wood can leave splinters on the skin. After finishing the sanding process, wipe the wood again with a damp cloth. Next, you will need to perform priming and final finishing of the surfaces using varnish or paint.

To create a single bed or sleeping place for a child, you will need 2 pallets, which are laid out on the floor one after the other. Then the sleeping place will have the following dimensions: length - 240 cm, width - 80 mm. If you use 3 pallets, 2 of which are folded with the long side facing each other, and the third is placed on top, then the dimensions of the sleeping bed will be different. Their length will be 240 cm and width - 120 cm. Let's measure the area of the bed in both cases. In the first it will be 1.92 sq. m, and in the second - 2.88 sq. m. The first option is more suitable for a schoolchild or teenager, and the second - for a baby with his mother.

To create a low double bed 240*160 cm for adults you need 4 units of material, for a tall one of the same size - 8 pallets. If you plan to create a double bed from Euro pallets measuring 240*240 cm, you will need to get 6 or 12 pallets. Having six units will allow you to make a low base, and 12 – a high one. Pallets need to be folded in two rows of 3 pieces on the floor, fastened together using self-tapping screws. Then, another 6 pallets are laid out on the first row and also fastened together.

    Legs

Before you make your own bed from pallets, consider whether it is worth equipping the structure with legs. Their presence will make the sleeping bed higher, which increases the comfort of the furniture for people of short stature, heavy weight, and with sore joints. A low bed made of pallets looks lighter and does not burden a narrow space, but it will be problematic for an elderly person to sit down and get up from it.

To make the legs of a wooden sleeping bed, you should use wooden blocks or make four cubes from cut pallets for installation in the corners of the base. If you want to give the design mobility, install it in the center of the bedroom, you should choose supports for the product in the form of wheels. You can purchase them together with the fasteners that are relevant for a particular model at a furniture store. With such legs, furniture can be moved around the room if necessary.

Please note that the level of load on the wheel supports reaches its maximum when several people lie on the bed at the same time. For this reason, it is necessary to select high-quality wheels so that they are able to withstand significant weight.

Strengthen the legs with metal corners

    Headboard

A bed made of pallets with an original headboard looks stylish and elegant. You can add an original part to your bed on your own, using available materials. Such a detail can be a hard or soft headboard with original decor or a non-standard shape.

To create a headboard you will need 1-2 pallets. They are mounted to the base vertically at the head. If desired, the backrest can be fixed not on the base, but on the wall surface. The disadvantage of this solution is the need to drill into the wall. In addition, it will not be possible to move the pastel to another place without dismantling the headboard and minor repairs to the wall.

If the design project requires it, you can create a soft headboard for a bed from pallets. To do this, the pallet is lined with foam rubber and covered with upholstery material using a construction stapler. Among various types of upholstery, the following options are most often preferred for making a soft headboard:

    • fabric (velvet, brocade) - such luxurious-looking materials will look even more interesting in combination with the aesthetics of wooden pallets;
    • eco-leather is an affordable, practical, beautiful material that will be very easy to care for in the bedroom;
    • genuine leather - in combination with pallets, this expensive material may seem inappropriate, but when creating a unique bedroom design, such original ideas are quite applicable.

A soft headboard is mounted on the wall and decorated in different ways. The main function that such an element will perform is to create a decorative accent. But let’s not forget that when you lean your back on the soft upholstery of the bed, a person feels additional comfort. For the sake of this fact, it’s worth tinkering a little with foam rubber and upholstery.

    Painting

Personal preference is important at this stage. You can leave the natural color of the wood or paint it any color you want.

Wood paint, acrylic varnish or impregnation are ideal for painting a wooden pallet.

To get the perfect effect, you must follow the paint manufacturer's instructions.

Between applying layers of paint, be sure to allow time for the previous layer to thoroughly saturate the wood and dry completely.

    Assembly

After careful processing and painting, they can be combined with each other.

Pallets must be arranged in a specific order and securely connected with bolts, metal angles and/or studs.

If the design is the same as in the diagram below, then for each row of a double bed you will need 8 pins with a diameter of M10.

A washer must be placed under all nuts, and the length of each stud must be at least 25 cm.

Since each block (pillow) of the pallet has dimensions of 10x10 cm + 5 cm, the margin will be sufficient if the upper part of the pallet does not protrude around the perimeter.

For the studs, do not forget to drill through holes at equal distances with a 10.5 mm drill. After this, we twist everything one by one into a single structure.

In order to securely fix the second row, it is enough to twist them with an additional 4 bolts in the corners.

The headboard is fastened in the same way as the base. Or you can fix it to the wall through a metal corner.

After rolling the pallets, make sure that all components have been thoroughly painted and that there are no bald spots. And to protect the mattress, you need to attach thick fabric to the base.

The free space under the pallets can serve as a place for storage systems in the form of cardboard, plastic or fabric boxes.

    Creating a highlight

A bed made of pallets with lighting gives the bedroom additional comfort at night, fills the space with an atmosphere of love, promotes relaxation, and evokes romantic lightness. Therefore, experienced designers advise using LED strips, glowing cords or simply free-standing lamps to complement self-made furniture from wooden pallets.

Select two glow cords, each 185 cm long. Connect them with plugs and place them at the bottom of the base along the entire perimeter of the structure, so that when the lighting fixtures are turned on, the illusion of the bed floating above the floor is created. Make sure that each of the contacts fits deep into the channel in which the wiring is placed. Protect the free end of the cord with a cap. Next, connect the duralight to the electrical cable and check if the system works.

The main thing is to position the backlight switch in such a way that you can use it without getting out of bed. Light fixtures, cord, switch can be picked up in the store.

    More about decorating

Proper decoration plays an important role in interior design, because a simple wooden bed will not look very aesthetically pleasing against the background of modern furniture, curtains and household appliances. You need to learn how to properly decorate a bed. There are several tricks for this. If your bed has a headboard, it can be decorated with spectacular paintings or ornaments made using a jigsaw or a special burner. Paint the bed itself in the color you like, which will harmonize with the interior of the bedroom.

    Pallet beds with lighting

Note! When decorating a children's bed made from wooden pallets, you can use delicate fabric to create a canopy. Silk fabric is best suited for this.

For a minimalist bedroom setting, where the bed is not only the central piece of furniture, but often the only one, pallets are perfect

If you wish, you can install LEDs in the headboard, thereby creating a romantic backlight. They can be supplemented with hanging electric lamps - one on each side. However, it doesn’t matter what exactly you decorate your bed with. The main thing is to do it with your soul! This is the only way to achieve the perfect combination of beauty and home comfort.

DIY single bed made from pallets

Before you start making a single bed from pallets, you should decide on the following key points:

    1. Headboard. In most cases, it is an integral attribute of the bed. If desired, it can be made as a separate element, which can later become an independent part of the interior. The headboard can be attached either to the bed or to the wall. Such an element can be a very original decoration.
    2. Dimensions of the mattress used. It will need to be laid on top of the manufactured structure, which should be larger or the same in size. If desired, you can make a base based on lamellas, and do not lay the mattress on bare pallets.
    3. Will the bed be placed on the floor or will there be legs? Here everything will come down to practicality and aesthetics. It will be difficult to clean under the bed, although this design will look more interesting with legs.

    Assembling the bed frame

Making a bed out of pallets is easier than making a cabinet or decorative table. It is simple in form, and if the legs and headboard are not needed, then it will take one or two days to carry out all the necessary manipulations. It is necessary to sand the pallets, paint them with varnish and fasten them together in the chosen order. All manipulations will look like this:

    Grinding

Experts recommend using a grinding machine, however, sandpaper will be more than enough.

    Sanding the pallet

    Finishing work

This stage is extremely important, but it can be carried out last, after the assembly of the structure is completed. In this case, it will be more difficult to paint each board perfectly. Everything here will depend on the chosen design and method of decoration.

    Pallet painting

    Assembly

Assembling a bed frame from pallets is not difficult. However, problems will not arise only if all measurements were carried out correctly. Only then will the bed be of the correct shape. All elements must be securely fastened together in order to avoid looseness and creaks in the future when using the furniture.

Self-tapping screws are used as fastening elements, which are reinforced with corners or special plates if you plan to make legs. Similar manipulations must be carried out with the headboard, if there is one.

    Fastening bed trays together

After assembly, the bed is installed in a pre-selected location. A mattress, bed linen and decorative pillows (optional) are placed on its surface. Some people prefer to decorate their bed with neon lights. Creating a bed yourself and without extra costs is more than possible and will not take much effort and time. In addition, the owner has the opportunity to create something himself, focusing only on personal taste preferences.

Assembling a single bed from pallets

    Preparatory activities

It is recommended to carry out preparatory operations step by step, since they are all interconnected and must follow in a certain order. At this stage of work, the nails remaining in them, as well as not very reliable areas with cracks, are removed from the wood blanks. The wood should be thoroughly dried and cleaned of any remaining dust and dirt (this applies to old pallets).

Important! It is best to discard pallets with any unpleasant odors immediately.

At the preparatory work stage, sanding, priming, and subsequent varnishing or painting of polished wood blanks are carried out.

When polishing, a grinding machine is used in combination with regular emery cloth, after which you can proceed to protective treatment. The varnish is usually applied in two or even three layers over a well-primed and dried surface of the workpiece.

DIY double bed made from pallets

In order to build a double bed from pallets, and not resort to unnecessary expenses, you should use the simplest option for its manufacture. To do this you should purchase:

    • Roller and brush.
    • Hammer.
    • Varnish or paint (optional).
    • Soil mixture.
    • Several sheets of sandpaper.
    • Screwdriver.
    • Drill.
    • A set of screws and nails.
    • Pallets in the size of three pieces 120x80 cm.

If it is not possible to purchase new pallets, then you should choose the cleanest and strongest pallets possible to make cleaning them easier. All of them are wiped with sandpaper or a drill. The resulting layer of dust is removed with a slightly damp cloth. The surface of the material is primed using a roller (with a brush it takes a little longer and less evenly). The working surface must be completely dry. The paint is applied in several layers, regardless of the chosen tone and the degree of its saturation. If desired, the paint can be replaced with a more familiar stain.

Double bed made of eight pallets: six for the base, two for the headboard

After the paint layer has completely dried, you can begin assembling the desired structure. To begin with, the elements of the pancake side are fastened. Small holes are made in the material, into which self-tapping screws are then screwed. The side that will rest against the wall must be additionally reinforced with existing boards. A pre-purchased mattress is placed on the finished frame. Thus, no more than eight pallets will be needed. If the bed needs to be raised, then the pallets are laid in two layers, respectively, their number is doubled.

Assembling a double bed from pallets

Assembling a double bed from pallets

If you follow the instructions above, then making your own frame for a double bed from pallets will not be difficult. It is enough to get 6-8 pallets (twice as many if you plan to make the bed high). There are no special rules for assembling the frame, since each craftsman has his own secrets for making it. Pallets belong to the category of technical materials, therefore they are subject to more thorough grinding.

To achieve an excellent result, new sheets of sandpaper or a special attachment on a sanding machine are used to sand the surface. The comfort level of further use of the product will depend on this stage.

Sanding the tray can be done using sandpaper or a grinding machine.
If the bed is planned to be installed on the terrace, it is recommended to additionally treat the working surface with antifungal compounds. The standard dimensions of a double bed are 240x240 cm. This figure is based on the original dimensions of the pallets themselves, which are attached to each other in several rows.

    General procedure:

    1. The first row consists of six pallets that are fastened together. If necessary, additional rows are erected.
    2. The surface is cleaned and processed.
    3. Installation of the structure in a permanent place.

    Getting started with assembly

As noted earlier, creating an original bed from environmentally friendly material does not require special skills. Just follow the step-by-step instructions below.

Step 1. Buy the required number of pallets and bring them into the apartment. It is advisable to lay polyethylene under wooden structures so as not to stain the flooring.

It is recommended to lay film under the pallets

Step 2: Sand the surface of the pallets using sandpaper. To begin with, you can use coarse-grained paper, and then switch to sandpaper with a lighter abrasive.

    Pallets need to be sanded

Step 3. Mark 20 cm on both sides and carefully cut off the marked part. Follow the procedure from above and below.

20 cm is marked on both sides

Step 4: Remove all nails from the cut portion of the pallet. As a result, you should end up with a design like this.

All nails must be removed from the cut part.

Step 5. Be sure to save the cut pieces because you will need them for further work.

The remaining fragments do not need to be thrown away

Step 6. Place the received parts in place of the cut, as it looks in the photo.

The resulting parts are placed in place where they were cut

Step 7: Join the two pre-cut pallets together. As a result, you will end up with one long pallet.

    Connecting two pallets

Step 8. Strengthen the junction of the two parts of the pallets using nails or self-tapping screws. For best effect, combine these two fastening elements.

The connection point is strengthened with nails

Step 9. Repeat all manipulations with the second pair of pallets. At the final stage, you should have a large wooden frame designed for two people.

As a result, you should end up with a design like this

Step 10. Treat the finished structure with varnish or another type of coating and after it has dried, you can lay blankets and bedspreads. It is advisable to lay an unnecessary blanket at the very bottom to cover the gaps between the boards of the pallet.

Stage of assembling the bed and headboard

There are several ways to assemble beds based on pallets, of which the simplest option is suitable for beginners. It consists of sequentially performing the following mandatory operations.

Firstly, to arrange a double bed you will need to prepare from 6 to 12 pallets (their exact number is determined by the size and height of the bed). Secondly, it is necessary to place the already cleaned and painted pallets on a flat area.

Next, you will need to fasten them with nails or large self-tapping screws both vertically (with two layers) and horizontally. At the final stage of assembly, the ready-to-use mattress should be placed on the bed.

If desired, you can complement the hand-made bed with a headboard, which is mounted from the same pallets in the form of boards, fixed directly at the base. The blanks are first disassembled into separate parts, and then cleaned and sanded. And only after that they can be covered with a protective layer of primer, and subsequently painted.

The boards prepared according to the standard method are nailed or securely fastened with self-tapping screws to the base of the already assembled couch.

DIY bunk bed made from pallets

Most often, two-tier structures are installed in a children's bedroom. A small room needs proper organization of space, because it needs to accommodate everything necessary for a small person or even several.

    Pallet bunk bed

In addition to his own sleeping place, the student will need a work area where he can do homework and engage in self-study. A good table will take up an unforgivably large amount of space, just like a good bed. So why not combine these two interior items together and create a really interesting and necessary thing on your own?

    Pallet bed combined with table

By making a bunk bed from pallets for several children, you can not only save your budget, but also develop the design of the product yourself. To create a multi-level structure, pallets are stacked at different levels. The first level will consist of one layer of pallets, the second will have two, and the third will have three.

For ease of perception, it is recommended to paint each level with a separate color. This type of assembly is much more complex than that used to create a regular bed. In the dark, lighting fixtures can become delimiters between sleeping places or two zones. The sequence of actions will be as follows:

    1. First, you need to build two separate children's beds from pallets. The first will be located on the first floor, and the second will be fixed on the second floor. It is recommended to use three pallets (one on each side) as supports.
    2. After fastening the two pallets together, you should have three strong legs (at the foot, in the center and at the head).
    3. Boards are fixed between the supports, which will unite the two tiers.

The staircase is made separately and installed on one side of the structure. It is recommended to make the lifting angle no more than 55°.

    Pallet bed with lighting

An already finished bed can not only be decorated with various ornaments, but also made into a full-fledged night light. You can easily place LED circuits inside the structure, which will function in the dark using a long cord and plug. The fastening is made to the inside of the bed. There should be a free outlet nearby so that there is no need to leave the sleeping place once again. Colored or white diffused light will transform the room beyond recognition and add the necessary comfort and warmth. The headboard of a pallet bed can also be equipped with lighting.

If desired, the lower part of the bed can be illuminated in several colors at the same time. Making such a decoration is quite simple. To get started you will need:

    1. Fastening elements (self-tapping screws).
    2. Corrugation for cord.
    3. The cord itself has diodes.
    4. Socket and extension cord.

    Approximate sequence of necessary actions.

    1. After assembling the main structure and installing it in a permanent place, you should begin arranging the backlit circuit.
    2. To begin with, a small cap is put on the cord being used, which will act as a grounding conductor.
    3. On the other side, a plug with the necessary contacts is attached. This way you will be able to connect to the network.
    4. It is recommended to use a separate LED cord for each side of the bed.
    5. Before connecting, all elements should be checked for functionality.
    6. The prepared structure is secured (every 15-20 cm).
    7. The plugs are inserted into the sockets, after which the mattress is placed in its original place.

    Decoration and lighting

When making a homemade bed, it is recommended to worry about its decorative decoration, which can give the product additional attractiveness. There are many approaches to solving this issue, but the simplest is considered to be dividing the space being developed into several separate zones.

Thanks to this division, it will be possible to arrange separate shelves or drawers in the free spaces between the pallets.

Note! The sides of the pallets can be used to place decorative trinkets or books.

In order to increase the style of the interior, you can use pillows and blankets trimmed with decorative ornaments.

Another way to decorate such beds involves the use of modern miniature lights.

To create an original lighting for a children's bed, you will need a maximum of 150 to 200 LEDs, sold in the form of a solid flat strip and glued directly to the surface to be decorated. Often these products are equipped with a control panel that provides the ability to remotely turn on and off the backlight.

    Pallet bed with storage drawers

The principle of assembling a bed frame from pallets is very simple and does not require specific skills. After making the main platform, a pre-selected mattress is laid on its surface. It’s easy to dock the pallets together, so there shouldn’t be any problems. You will need about eight pallets, which are fastened together with improvised fasteners. The resulting layers are laid in two rows. The wooden surface is covered with a protective layer (paint or varnish). It is recommended to further strengthen the structure by beating existing corners using corners or metal plates. Fastening is done with self-tapping screws.

The base should be slightly smaller than the headboard (pallets are placed horizontally). From several pallets we make small drawers or shelves that are attached at the head of the bed or as the first tier of the bed. Afterwards the mattress and additional accessories are laid. In this way, you can not only raise the bed, but also make the space under it useful by equipping several auxiliary niches that will help store personal items or bulky bed linen.

How to choose the right mattress for a pallet bed

Before purchasing a mattress for a bed you made yourself, you should take into account all the features of the frame. The pedestal can be either slightly smaller or significantly larger than the mattress. A bed can be made to any size, but ordering a custom-sized mattress is much more difficult. Often you should focus on the assortment offered by stores. Both personal preferences and the opinion of experts are taken into account.

    Key points:

    • Total weight of bedroom owners. If a person’s weight does not exceed 60 kg, then designs with soft springs can be used. These are characterized as products of medium hardness (55-110 kg).
    • The springs are hard. They have a special designation in the form of the letter “F”. Digital gradation is also present. If the place is double, then several separate blocks of different levels of rigidity will be used simultaneously. If the weight of the couple varies significantly, this option is the most acceptable. Much also depends on the types of filler material.
    • Owner's age. Rigid structures are recommended for use by young people under 25 years of age. In this case, the manufacturer uses filler in the form of coconut coir as a base. This material is optimal for children whose spine is not yet fully formed. For the older generation, separately installed spring blocks should be used.

Experts recommend that you start making a bed by purchasing a mattress, because it is its characteristics that you should focus on when choosing drawings for the future product. The upholstery should be made of natural and breathable fabrics. And the mattress itself must be orthopedic. Thus, 2/3 of the total costs will go directly to the purchase of a high-quality mattress, on which the further level of comfort and well-being of the owners will depend. Such a designer and exclusive solution as a hand-made bed from pallets can become the highlight of any interior. The structure, made from European pallets, will be incredibly strong, high quality and durable.
