Standard sizes of MDF panels and boards. Tables. Characteristics. Weight.

Areas of application depending on size

HDF boards are used in various fields.

  • Furniture manufacturing. Most often they are used for drawers and back walls of high-quality furniture: cabinet or upholstered.
  • They make excellent interior doors for offices, homes, cottages, cafes, and so on.
  • Due to their high strength and reliability, the panels make excellent partitions. Their dimensions make it possible to build them at high speed.
  • Interior work. The small thickness of the slabs allows you to save more usable space in the room. At the same time, it is possible to mount them not only on walls, but also on the ceiling, which significantly expands the list of areas of their application. They can be used as a backing for laminate flooring. The dimensions of the slabs help increase the speed of work.
  • Kitchen aprons. Using various methods, patterns are applied to the slabs, and they make an excellent replacement for tiles. A reasonable price and no seams are a big plus in kitchen finishing. You can use non-standard sizes, while reducing material consumption.
  • Decor. Grilles are made from these plates to hide ventilation holes and picture frames. They also make excellent screens that cover heating radiators from prying eyes; holes are cut into them for free passage of air.
  • Finishing. Light weight and high reliability make it possible to use this material for upholstery of car interiors and passenger cars.

Standard sheet sizes

When assessing the dimensions of MDF, it is necessary to take into account the available regulatory documents: GOST 32687-2014 and TU 5536-022-0273643-95. They reflect the main indicators

There is also a provision that the dimensions of the slabs can be determined by agreement of the parties.

Wood fiber panels have a wide range of uses, so each direction is classified according to its own standards

Thickness

The most common value is from 3 to 30 mm, the maximum is 60 mm. Larger pieces are produced exclusively to order and can be decorated with decorative veneer.

The gradation depends on the specific area of application of the product:

  1. Panels up to 4 mm thick are used only for the manufacture of parts that will not experience mechanical stress.
    From this material, fragments of cladding and universal corners are obtained for covering the joints of adjacent surfaces. Thin MDF is widely used for the production of decorative furniture inserts
  2. Fiberboards with a thickness of 6 to 10 mm are most often used for the production of parts that will be mounted on walls or ceilings, and overlay elements of moldings. They can act as a decorative insert for furniture facades or sliding wardrobe doors.
  3. Products with a thickness of 10 mm are used for cladding door panels and making trims.
    Two main decorative types are used: laminated and veneered. According to statistics, about 70% of platbands are now made from MDF
  4. MDF thickness from 10 to 16 mm suggests the use of products for roughing and finishing work, depending on the class. These slabs can be used to level walls and other surfaces and erect interior partitions. It is taken into account that such finishing contributes to additional thermal insulation of the room and reduces noise pollution.
  5. Plates with a thickness of 16–18 mm are a standard furniture option. They are excellent for the production of frame or solid facades. The structure of the sheet allows you to perform complex surface treatment and create parts of different shapes and reliefs. Thanks to modern technology, the material meets all safety standards, which makes it possible to make wardrobes and beds for children's rooms from it.
  6. MDF sheets with thicknesses of 22, 25, 28 and 30 mm can also be used to produce interior items or strengthen interior partitions. The material provides almost complete sound insulation of the room, therefore it is suitable for cladding vertical and horizontal surfaces.

By combining different types, you can get a finish that will not only protect the house from extraneous sounds and heat loss, but also create an individual interior.

Lenght and width

These indicators vary greatly depending on the area of use of the product. Many manufacturers are trying to expand their range in order to ensure the greatest demand for the material for various jobs.

  1. Standard lengths are 215, 220, 244 and 366 cm. This is the size of sheets that are used for rough work or used for cutting furniture parts. Wall panels are most often 260 cm long, since the height of the surfaces varies in this range. Options with lengths of 240, 270 and 280 cm are much less common. Although vertical bases range in length from 200 to 400 cm, such elements are made in limited quantities or to order.
  2. Standard widths are 122 and 183 cm. In reality, the range is much larger. The width of slatted panels ranges from 15 to 30 cm, sheet panels – 60–207 cm.

There are no uniform requirements for the dimensions of MDF panels, and each country develops its own standards

Types of decorative wall panels

In fact, it is not enough to cover a wall with any panels you like. Only those types of finishes that are correctly selected in size, texture and material can achieve the desired result, complement, and decorate the interior. Before going to such design delights, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the features of existing options, their advantages, as well as disadvantages.

Gypsum panels

Gypsum panels are one of the most common; they are safe, non-toxic, resistant to temperature changes, provide additional sound insulation, and have a long service life. The possibility of painting allows you to literally update the room in a few hours, bringing new notes. During installation, a seamless surface can be achieved. In case of damage, sandpaper with putty will help to carry out a quick restoration.

Plastic

In the manufacture of PVC wall panels, technologies are used that make it possible to create imitation of many natural materials, including finishing stone and wood. Polymers also successfully imitate the texture of fabric or leather, and some collections include panels actually covered with high-quality leather or textiles. Plastic panels have no equal in the variety of colors and textures. The depth of the relief depends on the thickness of the material and ranges from 30-120 mm. Plastic tiles are lightweight, waterproof, and easy to maintain.

Glass

This type of finishing was one of the last to appear and had not yet become very popular. Glass 3D panels for walls look very beautiful and have excellent quality characteristics, but not everyone can afford their price. In addition, due to their heavy weight, they are not suitable for all walls, especially partitions.

Aluminum

Recently, they have been used with pleasure by both professional designers and ordinary homeowners who have decided to update the interior on their own. The finish is not afraid of exposure to temperature or moisture, and is resistant to ultraviolet radiation and various alkaline environments. No further processing or coloring is intended. Manufacturing technology allows you to experiment with texture and color. Due to their light weight, they can be mounted even on plasterboard partitions, but the panels are attached to a frame made of metal profiles, so they will take up some area from the room.

Embossed MDF panels

Like previous options, MDF panels can have different textures, textures, and colors. They are made of high quality composition, which ensures stability and long service life. However, they are not recommended for use in rooms with high humidity, for bathrooms, saunas, baths. Painted surfaces are the most popular among designers. A special feature of MDF panels is the ability to use them not only as decoration for walls, but also for decorating partitions, furniture facades, and doors.

How to paint?

If necessary, you can refresh your boring interior by repainting the surface in a different color. It is worth clarifying that the procedure is quite complicated, but quite doable on your own. Here are the following stages:

  1. Prepare the dye. The best option for painting MDF would be to mix paint and hardener in a ratio of 1:9, respectively. To prevent the composition from hardening, regular stirring is required.
  2. The basis. The panels must be sanded and primed. The thickness of the primer layer should vary between 100-140 microns. The primer usually dries within 2-6 hours.
  3. Painting. At this stage, several layers of paint are applied, each thickness is about 80 microns. The finishing layer can be polished to give the surface a glossy finish.
  4. Drying. For the dye to “adhere”, it is necessary to keep the painted panel for 8-12 hours at room temperature.

If we talk about paint, then the following emulsions are suitable for MDF:

  • Alkyd or oil based.
  • Contains polyurethane resins.
  • Nitro paint of NC category.
  • Aerosols on acrylic base.

In addition, special enamels for painting MDF are sold.

Properties: pros and cons

PVC panels are a unique cladding product that is made from polyvinyl chloride and is used for decorating rooms with high humidity. The material contains rock salt and elements of petroleum products. Thanks to special manufacturing technologies, these components are converted into an ultra-strong polymer that is resistant to high temperatures and has excellent performance characteristics. In addition to the main raw materials, various additives are also used in the PVC production process, which provide the panels with color, porous structure and high protection from moisture.

The main advantages of this material include:

  • Affordable price. This type of cladding is considered budget-friendly and anyone can afford it.
  • Huge selection of colors and textures. The market is represented by products of various colors, which not only imitate natural material, but are also decorated with photo printing.

Durability. Since polyvinyl chloride is a waterproof product, it prevents the formation of mold and mildew on the surface of the finish, thereby increasing its service life. Good thermal insulation and sound absorption

The internal structure of the material is designed in such a way that it retains heat and external sounds well, this is very important for bathrooms. In addition, during installation work, a frame is installed, on which another layer of insulation can be additionally laid. Environmental friendliness

The raw materials from which the material is produced are absolutely safe for human health.

  • Quick installation. It is quite possible to carry out all the work on assembling and covering the structure yourself, without having any special skills. In addition, you do not need to use a special tool for finishing. Thanks to wall panels, you can also hide all connections, wiring and engineering systems, giving the bathroom a stylish look. Sheet plates are flexible, so they can be easily attached both horizontally and vertically at any angle.
  • Easy to care for. To clean the finish from dust and dirt, simply wash or wipe the plastic with water. No special cleaning agents are required.
  • Possibility of installation without preliminary surface preparation. The walls and ceiling that are planned to be sheathed with PVC do not need to be plastered and leveled, since the frame is attached to them and after finishing all the flaws will be hidden. The most important thing is that the facing surface is dry and clean.

As for the disadvantages, wall panels are fire hazardous, subject to deformation at temperatures below -18 degrees and, when installed, slightly reduce the space of the bathroom. The disadvantage of the products is their low strength, due to which they are not resistant to scratches and chips. Installation in rooms where direct sunlight penetrates, which has a detrimental effect on the finish, is not recommended. But, as a rule, bathrooms do not have windows, so this drawback can be eliminated.

Types of PVC panels

First of all, the panels differ in purpose and among the main types there are the following:

  • wall;
  • ceiling

Wall panels differ significantly from the ceiling version in their weight and strength. In order to improve the strength of plastic wall planks, you have to increase their weight and use more material. In addition, the wall type of finishing material does not have the ability to replace elements, and all this is due to the fact that many planks differ from each other in size, as well as strength and quality. The length of the wall planks can reach up to 6 meters, the width is 25–30 cm, and the thickness is 6–10 mm.

The ceiling version, on the contrary, is designed to have less weight. This is understandable, because strength for finishing material on the ceiling is not the main criterion, but weight plays an important role. Also, the ceiling version of plastic panels has more variety in the stylistic sphere. In size, ceiling panels can reach from 6–10 meters in length, 25–30 cm in width and at the same time have a fairly thin wall that does not exceed 4 mm.

One of the main advantages of using plastic panels is that there is no need to prepare the walls or ceiling before installing them. On the contrary, PVC plastic lamellas can perfectly cover all cracks, chips or uneven walls and ceilings without the need for preliminary work. Also, to install plastic panels, you do not need to use special tools.

The material seems to be quite simple, but it also has a large number of advantages, of which sound and heat insulation can be distinguished. Panels can help hide wiring or plumbing. If some parts of the finishing material are deformed, everything can be easily repaired or the damaged part can be replaced. PVC plastic panels do not even need to be carefully looked after, and all you need to do is wipe the surface with a damp cloth.

Types of panels by connection method

PVC plank connections can be divided into the following types:

  • embossed;
  • seamless;
  • panels with rustication (chamfer).

Seamless plastic strips are most often chosen for installation on the ceiling. The point is that the slats are installed quite tightly using seams. If you do everything correctly, the connecting line will be almost invisible

There are also rectangular relief models, which are also popular, but for wall decoration. In their shape and installation method, PVC plastic strips are more reminiscent of lining. Relief finishing material has good wear resistance characteristics, they are more durable, but at the same time their price is higher. It is best to use rectangular planks to cover problem areas or wooden walls.

Rustic PVC panels are not much different from the seamless type. The only difference is that rusticated planks have decorative recesses (chamfers) at the ends. This material is suitable for cladding walls and ceilings.

Types of PVC panels by size

  • sheet panels;
  • square shape;
  • rectangular shape;
  • lining.

PVC planks in the form of linings are sold at a low price and you can easily find the right size. Basically in size the material reaches 3 meters in length and 10 cm in width. The width can reach 12.5 cm if a double profile is used. There are two options for lining strips. The first option is the “European” one, which differs in that it has a wide lock for fastening and this option is much more convenient to use when installing the material. The second option is a “polka”, which has a narrow fastening lock.

Price

As already mentioned, natural wood has a high cost, which makes such material unavailable for widespread use.

MDF wall panels, the sizes of which are characterized by variety, are more accessible, since their cost is cheaper.

The cost of the panels will be determined by several indicators:

  • dimensions;
  • processing technology.

In comparison with wood material, wall panels for interior decoration of MDF differ:

  • ease of processing;
  • affordable cost;
  • naturalness of production;
  • variety of design;
  • ease of installation and operation.

MDF: characteristics, description, properties

When planning a renovation or purchasing furniture, you always want to learn more about existing materials, their advantages and disadvantages. Having comprehensive information, it is easier to understand for what operating conditions certain things are intended, calculate the approximate service life and make an informed choice. This article will focus on MDF, a solid wood substitute that is often confused with particle boards. Having a number of advantages, which will be discussed below, this material is excellent for construction, interior decoration, furniture, doors and decor.

Varieties and characteristics

All panels of this type are made of plastic called polyvinyl chloride, which everyone is accustomed to abbreviating as PVC. The differences between all types of such planks are their size, coating and thickness. These are the main parameters in which they may differ from each other.

Standard sizes of PVC ceiling panels vary within fairly wide limits and are:

  • Width – 25 centimeters
  • Length – from 3 to 6 meters
  • Thickness – from 5 to 12 millimeters

Non-standard dimensions are also manufactured, while the length of one part can reach 6 meters, and the width reaches 50 centimeters. But such solutions can be found very rarely. Basically, finishing is done in traditional sizes and the main difference is the thickness of the material and the finishing of its front side.

The last characteristic mainly influences the choice of one model or another. The main thing is the appearance of the resulting coating, and here another feature appears - the coating can be either with clearly visible boundaries between the parts used, or without seams.

This is influenced by the type of panels - they can be seamless or regular. Seamless design means that after installation, such planks are connected tightly, without any gaps, ensuring a continuous plane. These panel options cost a little more than regular ones.

On standard parts there are no gaps between them either, but the connection point is quite noticeable. You can see what a ceiling made from these and other types of PVC panels looks like in the photo below.

A classic example of the use of this material. The covering is installed in the bathroom. Its characteristics allow you not to worry about the safety of such a ceiling for many years. Such finishing is not afraid of moisture and various fungi or molds do not grow on them.

Here, seamless PVC panels are used to decorate the ceiling. They really create an almost continuous plane and the joints between the planks are almost invisible. This is greatly facilitated by the special pattern on the front side of the part.

Caring for kitchen units

To preserve the appearance of the product and extend its service life, you must follow the rules for cleaning and care. They will differ in the type of finishing work performed.

Quite often, MDF coating is used with veneer, which is made from valuable wood species. However, the use of this coating carries a number of restrictions for the operation of furniture.

The location of such products near heating appliances is excluded.

To remove dirt from the surface, use a slightly diluted soap solution. Cleaning of MDF products is carried out using window surface cleaners based on ethanol, which is also perfect for this purpose. After applying the alcohol composition, you must immediately wipe the surface.

Kinds

Depending on the parameters, polyvinyl chloride slats come in several varieties.

Tiled

The tile material is similar in appearance to ceramic tiles. The standard dimensions of this product are 30x30 cm, 98x98 cm, 100 x 100 cm. Their thickness varies from 1 to 5 mm. Tile panels can be used in combination with plain variations of tiles that imitate natural stone.

Wall

Wall slats are used to decorate wall surfaces. Thanks to the large range of products, it becomes possible to create an original image in the interior of the room. The width of the products varies from 15 to 50 cm, size - 2.6 m, 2.7 m, 3 m, thickness - from 6 to 10 mm.

Leafy

These panels differ from previous variations in large parameters. When working with this type of product, a large working surface area is covered. The standard width of the lamellas is 50-122 cm, size - 0.9 -2.44 meters, thickness - 1-6 millimeters.

Sheet products often imitate various materials:

  • tree;
  • brick;
  • mosaic;
  • tile.

Lining

This type of plastic product has a polished surface. Manufacturers produce lining in various colors and textures. The connection of the products is carried out using the existing spikes, as a result of which even an inexperienced craftsman can perform the installation. Product width – 10-30 cm, size – 90 cm – 3 m, thickness – from 4 to 8 mm.

PVC lining is manufactured in 2 variations:

  • “Eurolining” is a product of a standardized size with a wide locking design. Width – 10 cm, width – 3 m.
  • “Polka” is a product of a standardized size with a narrow locking system. Length - 3 meters, width -10 cm.

PVC wall panels also differ in connection method:

  • lamellas with relief coating;
  • seamless plastic building materials;
  • panels that are chamfered.

Seamless finishing building materials are usually used for ceiling cladding in various rooms. With proper installation, you can achieve an effect in which the joint between the parts will be almost invisible. The seamless joining method allows you to create continuous lines and patterns when covering various surfaces.

Panels with a chamfer are somewhat reminiscent of seamless products. The only difference is that in the first option there is a chamfer in the end part of the building material. A chamfer is a recess designed to connect plastic panels into a single whole.

Lamels with a relief surface are usually used for finishing wall surfaces. In appearance they are similar to lining. Relief products differ from previous variations in their high strength coefficient and wear resistance. Due to such technical characteristics, they have a high cost.

With 3D effect

This type of product is used not only in the design of residential buildings and apartments, but also in office buildings and shops. The original drawing allows you to create a unique design in the room. Lamels with this effect imitate natural wood, natural stones, and ceramic tiles. Standard parameters: width – 25 cm, 37 cm, 50 cm, size – 2.7 m, 3 m, thickness – from 8 to 10 mm.

With thermal transfer

The technology for manufacturing this type of product is carried out in such a way that an image or pattern is displayed on a polymer film, after which, using specialized equipment, this image is transferred to a plastic building material under the influence of high temperatures. Panels with thermal transfer are considered the most popular among homeowners, because they have a high resistance to high temperatures, and installation is not difficult even for a novice builder. The width of the panels is 25 centimeters, the size is 2.7, 3 and 6 meters, the thickness is from 8 to 10 mm.

Laminated products

The method of manufacturing laminated panels is that a film with an image and decoration is glued to the front part. This manufacturing method gives the finishing material additional performance characteristics; such a pattern or image is quite difficult to spoil. Laminated panels are treated with an antiseptic agent, which prevents small particles of dust from settling on the surface of the products. The quality of panels of this type is certified by an appropriate quality certificate. Width – 25 centimeters, size – 2.7 and 3 m, thickness – from 8 to 12 mm.

Choice of colors

Modern technologies make it possible to select shades of panels that will suit any interior. This gives great freedom for design imagination . You can purchase imitation MDF wall options for decoration:

  • stone;

Stone

  • natural wood;

Natural wood

  • metal surface;
  • copper;

Copper

  • silver;

Silver

  • mother of pearl

The most successful use is a range of standard colors that create the effect of natural wood.

They are so similar to wood that they can decorate the interior of any room.

Great opportunities for creativity are provided thanks to the variety of methods for covering wall MDF, the sizes of which can be selected individually and in a wide palette of colors:

  • mahogany;
  • cedar;
  • apple trees;
  • cherries;
  • oak;
  • beech;
  • ash;
  • limbs.

Colors

From the names it follows that the panels imitate natural wood.

Recommendations for working with plastic

Before installing the finishing product, it is necessary to condition the panels in the room where such installation is required. The product must be acclimatized. This is necessary so that the building material gets used to the temperature in the room.

In addition to finishing materials, you will need additional elements:

  • inner corner;
  • initial profile;
  • finishing profile;
  • plinth.

Installation begins from the corner of the room towards the window or doorway. The inner corner is installed first. The slats must be cut to the required size, and the slabs must be cut depending on the installation method.

The plastic product is inserted into the corner profile and mounted on the sheathing. For this purpose, you can use a construction stapler, but clamps are considered the best variation. They are installed in the lower area of the groove, and fastening is carried out through a hole in the clamp. This fastening method does not deform the plastic product, and also ensures 100% fixation of the building material. Fasteners are selected at the rate of 2 dowels per 1 meter of profile and 2 self-tapping screws with large heads per 1 meter of PVC lamella size.

Subsequent elements are mounted using the tongue-and-groove method. In this case, the panels should fit together as tightly as possible. Upon completion of the sheathing, a joint is formed between the wall surface and the floor, which must be closed using a plinth. To seal the joints on the ceiling, a more decorative ceiling plinth is used, which should be in harmony with the overall decoration of the ceiling.

The amount of plinth is calculated based on the total area of the ceiling. The standardized size of the plinth is 3 meters. The total perimeter of the ceiling surface must be divided by the size of the baseboard, after which the resulting value is rounded up to a multiple of 3.

Work with plastic products can be carried out at temperatures from -5 to +50 degrees, so wall finishing in baths and saunas is not carried out. In places where switches and sockets are located, special boxes must first be installed and an electrical cable must be installed. When installing slats, it is necessary to cut holes for switches and sockets.

There are 2 methods of fastening plastic products:

  • on the sheathing;
  • onto the adhesive solution.

Installation of lining or sheet panels can only be carried out on the frame. This is due to the large dimensions of the products. The frame in this case can be made of wood or metal slats. The height of the frame depends on the number of irregularities on the working surface.

Plastic building materials in the form of tiles are mainly attached to glue. In this case, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work. The surface must be cleaned of various contaminants, leveled and treated with special means. Glue the tile panels as tightly as possible so that voids do not form under the products.

Production

Lignocellulose fibers from coniferous trees or any hard wood are used to make panels. Using the “dry” method involves choosing a breed whose fiber moisture content is up to 20% when it is in the molding stage.

In order to obtain the finished product, wood fibers are subject to temperature and pressure. In this case, an adhesive substance is added that does not cause allergic reactions. What raw materials are suitable for producing MDF?

These are exclusively natural materials:

  • sawdust;

Sawdust

  • knots;
  • lumber.

Lumber

To obtain the finished product, the raw materials must be refined, softened with the addition of hot steam and a special screw mechanism. Next, glue is added. The next step will be drying the material. This will take time and also adherence to technology.

In order for a dry mixture to form, it is necessary to lay the material on the plate and gradually compress it. After the product has taken shape, it must be processed using the required pressure and temperature.

In this state, the material is able to change colors from light to chocolate shades. When the slab has cooled to normal temperature, it must be cut to the required size. Next, the slab is trimmed.

Dimensions of facade panels: different materials and manufacturers

One of the most popular types is vinyl siding. The reason is low prices, lightness and simple installation. But the material can be brittle when frozen and has a high coefficient of thermal expansion.

But the specifics of operation allow such shortcomings to be taken into account. In addition, it is worth noting the high-quality imitation of various wood species. Manufacturers produce panels in various sizes. But it is permissible to identify the following average values:

  1. Profile thickness from 12 to 40 millimeters.
  2. The weight of 1 panel is 1.5-2 kilograms.
  3. Width – 0.2-0.3 meters.
  4. 2.5-3.8 meters long.
  5. Thickness 0.7-1.2 millimeters.

They produce triple or single, double types of panels. S, D, T – markings indicating each type. The numbers next to each other indicate the inch width. They must be taken into account when organizing the calculation of facade panels for a house.

Metal

In terms of strength and stability, the metal variety definitely wins over all other varieties. But demand is somewhat decreasing due to high prices.

The performance of metal and vinyl products is very similar to each other.

The dimensions are described as follows:

  • 4-5 kilograms weighs 1 square meter.
  • The thickness reaches 0.5-1.1 millimeters.
  • Width – from 22 to 36 centimeters.
  • Length up to 8 meters.

Tsokolny

Often, instead of the name “basement”, the designation “facade” is used. Originally created for cladding the lower part of the house with contrast. But the material quickly acquired specificity, a purpose for work inside and outside.

The shapes of such panels often simplify the installation procedure. Initially, basement siding was metal, but now vinyl varieties are also produced.

The size situation is as follows:

  1. One panel weighs 1.8-2.5 kilograms.
  2. Profile height up to 26 millimeters.
  3. The thickness will be 1-3 millimeters.
  4. The width is in the range of 0.45-0.59 meters.
  5. Length – 0.79-1.25 meters.

Ceramic

The source of the material is Japan, it was recently brought to Russia. The material has a porous structure; it is based on a cement composite, which undergoes special hardening inside furnaces.

The manufacturer guarantees a service life of up to 30 years. The panels are characterized by a high level of quality. But such cladding costs 4-8 times more than other types of cladding. Therefore, the practical application of ceramic cladding is somewhat limited, but online calculators help to cope.

The surface can imitate wood and stone, and other materials. Installation is quite complicated; doing the work yourself is not recommended in most cases.

Most panels have the following parameters:

  • Weight of 1 square meter is 18-20 kilograms.
  • The thickness reaches 14 millimeters.
  • Width – from 45 to 91 centimeters.
  • Length up to 3 meters.

Cement

They can be classified as a group of ceramic products. But the manufacturing technology has certain differences. In this case, they include other components - water with cement and sand, as well as cellulose fibers as one of the additives.

The sizes suggest the following figures:

  1. One panel weighs up to 10 kilograms.
  2. Thickness within 10 millimeters.
  3. Width – 19 centimeters.
  4. Length – 3.6 meters.

Wooden

Nowadays special pressed wood panels are used in production. It undergoes a special treatment, which reduces shrinkage or the build-up of stress in the material. Connection methods vary, as do profile designs.

Additional processing is also required to protect against mold and the appearance of various microorganisms. The description of the main dimensions is as follows:

  • Thickness – from 15 to 40 millimeters.
  • Width – 14 centimeters.
  • Length – from 3.5 to 5.5 meters.

Serious differences in panels can be identified depending on the manufacturer's conditions. Experts recommend choosing a thickness of no more than 20 millimeters. Maximum width – 14 centimeters. The sizes and prices are chosen by the buyer himself.

For furniture

Particle board is also widely used in furniture production. Most often, due to the relatively high cost, MDF is used only for facades, while the main body of the furniture is made of cheaper chipboard. As a furniture material, MDF is characterized by the following advantages:

  • easily deformable, thanks to which semicircular and fancy curved facades can be made from it;
  • has high strength, which makes it possible to fix various furniture fittings and lamps in it;
  • moisture-, heat-, wear-resistant;
  • It has dirt-repellent qualities and is not afraid of washing with household chemicals.

You can find out how much a moisture-resistant wall panel under tiles costs in this article.

Facades are made to order in factories, where they are veneered, covered with film or paint

It is very important to accurately calculate their size, since in the future it will be impossible to fit them to the body. Just like wall panels, MDF sheets for furniture come in different sizes and thicknesses.

MDF panels, its price and sheet sizes can be found out by reading this article.

Possibility of use

In order to perform a whole range of construction work, MDF wall panels are widely used:

  • decorative surface finishing;
  • install a partition;
  • create cladding.

The range of sizes of MDF panels for walls is quite wide:

  • length – 900 – 3660 mm;
  • width – 600 – 1800 mm.

Please note that standard panel sizes vary between 1.8 - 60 mm.

Some materials of wood and deciduous origin cannot be characterized by the same ability to process and apply a variety of coatings as MDF.

These panels are compressed in such a way that they are especially convenient to use.

Panel size

In order to adjust the size of the wall panel to the required size, it does not require a lot of time and a set of special tools. Various methods are used to apply the coating. Such products are distinguished by a range of highly targeted properties and are resistant to the aggressive effects of moisture and fire.

The material has a wide range of decorative possibilities. Versatility is achieved through the use of powder coating.

The multidimensionality of the slabs also has a positive effect.

Recommendations for working with plastic when finishing

If the wall is flat, then the material can be attached directly to it. It makes sense to make a frame when you need to cover up old finishes (wallpaper, paint, tiles) or level a wall without plaster.

In addition, the lathing improves sound insulation, helps retain heat, and leaves space for ventilation behind the plastic.

It is economical and easy to make a base from wood. Modern antibacterial compounds contribute to the long service life of wood structures. The bars are installed parallel to the direction of the PVC panels, every 50-60 cm.

The frame is also made from U-shaped plastic profiles. Its advantage is that it is insensitive to moisture, lightweight, does not deform due to temperature changes, and is not electrically conductive.

The profile must be secured in increments of no more than 30 cm, with self-tapping screws or dowels every 0.5-1 m. To join the U-shaped parts together, cuts are made at 90˚, 45˚, 30˚. To secure the plastic, you will need clamps.

To work with panels you will need moldings:

  • internal and external corners;
  • joints;
  • the edges; baseboards;
  • finishing elements;
  • F-profiles.

Living rooms

If treated with an antiseptic, then the frame in the living room can be made from wooden beams.

The premises are decorated with wood, stone, and white brick. Use decorative, laminated or mirror plastic.

One of the walls can be decorated with PVC material of other shapes. Use rectangular or square structures measuring 0.3-0.98 m, highlight the seams.

Bathroom and toilet

For a bathroom, it is better to make a frame from a galvanized profile or plastic. The material is more suitable without a relief - high humidity can cause mold or mildew, and the textured surface is difficult to clean.

Bathroom panels go well with ceramic tiles, textured plaster, or paint. The main thing is to choose the right shades. It will work out well if you alternate the width and contrast of the elements.

Prints and patterns of different colors will help you create an original design. PVC panels for the bathroom go well with a slatted ceiling, into which mirror inserts can be made.

Kitchens

Economy panels (panels at low prices) can be an inexpensive alternative to ceramics for kitchen decoration.

You can choose combinations of brick and natural stone, mosaic, pattern or ornament.

There are tiled modular options from which images are made; patterns can be combined to decorate the entire kitchen or its individual zones.

A few additional tips:

When purchasing plastic material, you should pay attention to the absence of surface flaws and crumpled joints. There should be no translucency at the stiffeners. Tears and cracks should not form if you lightly press the product. Select the width of the panels so that there is less waste

For small apartments, using a panel with a width of 500-600 mm is impractical. The quality of the material can be checked by bending it. There should be no breaks or cracks. In most cases, the more expensive the material, the better it works. Leave ventilation holes (from fungus and mold).

If you want to make lighting on the ceiling from PVC panels or lamps built into it, it won’t hurt to mark and prepare the holes in advance.
