You can use thick plywood as a strip for the sides, but cutting long strips out of it smoothly without a machine is problematic. M6 nuts are used 2 per screw to prevent spontaneous unscrewing when folding the structure. The use of certain varnishes and paints is optional, although it is necessary to provide minimal protection to the wood.

The proposed drawing is not a dogma; it can be modified depending on your needs and the availability of materials. However, in general, the design of a small portable table with folding, easily retractable legs should not undergo significant changes.

How to assemble

Along the perimeter of the tabletop, a groove with a depth of at least 3 mm is made in the slats (slightly wider than the plywood used). During assembly, the bottom will fit tightly into it.

Then you should make a hole in the first plank with a drill with a diameter equal to or slightly larger than the diameter of the screw body, and in the second with a smaller diameter. This solution will help avoid cracking of thin bars.

For stable fixation of legs, furniture screws with a wide semicircular head or smooth ones, but with a burr on the back of the head, are best suited. When using two nuts, the second one performs the function of a locknut and it becomes possible to regulate the pressure of the first leg by tightening the additional one.

Don’t forget to go over all sharp edges with fine sandpaper after assembly is complete. To tint and preserve the pattern of beautiful wood, use clear furniture varnish, then prime it in the desired tone and varnish.
