Chair height, GOST standards for different models, important nuances

A chair is a piece of furniture on which it should be equally comfortable to work, relax, and eat. But the issue is not only about comfort; incorrect body position when sitting can provoke diseases of the spine, affect the blood supply to all organs, and cause feelings of pain and fatigue. That is why one of the main criteria is the height of the chair, which must be selected taking into account a number of important points. This concept includes not only the distance from the floor to the upper horizontal, but also the ratio of the height of the seat, armrests, and backrest.

Features of the models

Chairs play the role of functional additions to the central element of the interior - the table. But in order for items to be advantageously and correctly combined with each other, it is necessary to take their choice seriously.

Basically, high-quality and sustainable materials are used to create modern models. This is especially true for chairs that are used to furnish the kitchen. The models are not afraid of temperature influences and perfectly resist the harmful effects of moisture.

In addition, it is worth paying attention to the design of the products. Manufacturers of furniture items never cease to surprise customers with original shapes and unique style solutions. Thanks to the wide variety of models, each buyer has the opportunity to choose options in accordance with their own preferences, and, of course, the features of the interior.

Main types

Today there are several types of kitchen chairs. As noted above, models may differ in appearance and design features. Another distinguishing criterion is height.

Also, special attention should be paid to the materials that are used to create furniture:

  • Classic types include wooden models. The material is environmentally friendly, durable and beautiful.

Manufacturers offer models made from both cheap and valuable wood. In this case, the choice depends on your preferences and financial capabilities.

  • Good options for arranging a kitchen are metal . Furniture frames are mainly made from this material. To create the seat, soft options are used, for example, artificial or genuine leather. The main advantages of these models are that they have different shapes and colors.

Particular attention should be paid to metal models with a forged base. These options are ideal for beautiful classic interiors.

  • Plastic chairs are no less popular among buyers . This material has excellent performance properties. Manufacturers present a variety of plastic models, and special attention should be paid to objects whose base imitates glass. They fit perfectly into interiors that need lightness.

  • Models made of rattan will help you decorate your kitchen in country style. These chairs can be used to furnish a summer house.

Bar and semi-bar stool - what is the difference

In studio apartments or restaurants, there are quite often high chairs with which you can comfortably reach the bar countertop. Such products are distinguished by their unique design and compact dimensions. Each bar and semi-bar stool model has a footrest in the form of a partition.

Such products can perform several functional roles - in addition to the immediate one, they can also zone the space, separating the kitchen from the living room. However, it is not always important to use bar stools at home, since their height is designed for high tables. An alternative option is half-bar. Their design has been slightly changed - it is more adapted to ordinary chairs, the sizes are also smaller, which allows the chairs not to stand out in the interior.

At home, a bar counter is only a tabletop and a footrest on which you can lean. The space below is through, allowing people to sit opposite each other. It is for such conditions that half-bar stools are created, which can be placed on both sides of the counter.

Height is an important criterion

When choosing chairs for the kitchen or dining room, special attention should be paid to the height of the models. This directly determines how convenient and comfortable the products will be when used. There are certain established standards that you should focus on during the acquisition process:

  • The first important point is the height of the table. The standard indicator is 75 cm. Basically, this number was derived in relation to the average height of an ordinary person - 165 cm. Based on these indicators, you can choose the optimal table height.
  • First you need to determine your height. Afterwards, you need to measure the height of the table. The resulting indicators must be multiplied and divided by 165. For example, if a person’s height is 174 cm and the table height is 75, the optimal furniture option will be 79.1 cm. You can also calculate the indicators for the whole family. To do this, you need to determine the average height of the household.

  • As for the chair, here it is worth focusing on the established GOST standards. The average distance from the top of the table to the seat is 30 cm.
  • You can also use a ready-made formula. If a person’s height is 168 cm, the optimal height is 45 cm. With indicators from 162 to 168, you will need a chair of approximately 42-43 cm. If a person’s height is below 162 cm, you need to choose furniture with a height of 40 cm.
  • Calculating the required indicators is quite simple. For example, a chair with a height of 34.1 cm is suitable for a person with a height of 172 cm. To do this, you need to subtract 45 cm from 79.1 cm.
  • A good choice for a family of several people of different heights would be adjustable furniture. The height can be increased or decreased if desired. You can adjust the indicators using a simple mechanism.
  • It is worth noting that experts have identified the so-called gold standard. In this case, the height of the furniture from the floor level should be at least 80-90 cm. The optimal indicators for the backrest are 40-50 cm. The height from the floor to the seat should be at least 40-45 cm. It is worth choosing a chair with a depth of 50-55 cm .

Dining room. Layout | Residential premises | Construction design

Design of dining rooms (DIN 18011). Location. Required area. Calculation of canteen capacity. Minimum sizes of tables and chairs.

Location. The breakfast room should be oriented to the east (Fig. 3), for lunch and dinner - to the west (Fig. 12, 13, 15, 16). Direct entry from the corridor is not necessary; but a direct connection to the kitchen or pantry is necessary (Fig. 18). It is advisable to install a dispensing window from the kitchen only if there is a domestic worker.

Required area. Previously, the dining room was the largest but mostly empty room in the house; now the dining room is made to a minimum size. Nowadays, this is often just a place for a dining table in the corner (Fig. 5) or a niche in the kitchen, hallway or family room (Fig. 4-5). Even in large houses, dining rooms have a small area (Fig. 7, 9), united on special occasions by a wide doorway with a common room (Fig. 10). It is best to enter the dining room from a corner.

An outdoor dining table (on a veranda, terrace) is placed in a sunny area protected from the wind in front of the dining room or common room (with prevailing southwest winds from the east and southeast). Due to the gentle angle of incidence of sunlight from the east, the covering over the veranda can be quite wide without compromising the insolation of the premises. The minimum width of an open area with a bench along the wall is 3 m; Coverage extension is sufficient at 2 m.

The capacity of the dining rooms is calculated for 6-24 people. The width of the table is 55-110 cm. The length of the table for one seat is 55-70 cm. When used for planting the ends of the table, add 10-20 cm to its length.

The diameter of a round table is equal to the size of one seat multiplied by the number of seats and divided by 3.14.

1. The minimum distance from the table to the wall depends on the type of service (with or without a waiter).

2. At the end of the table, where the buffet is usually located, it is necessary to provide the possibility of passage with a large tray.

3. There should be enough space in front of the buffet to make it easy to pull out drawers.

4. The dining table in the dining car (a) takes up the least amount of space: a little more space is taken up by the dining table in the niche (b).

5. A table with a corner bench-sofa is placed conveniently and economically: if necessary, buffets can be located nearby.

6. For a dining table for more than 5 people. It is necessary to provide free passage to distant places between the chairs and the wall.

7. Minimum size of the dining room for 6 people. with a table in the middle in the absence of a buffet (the entrance in the corner of the dining room is convenient).

8. Minimum area occupied by a dining table with chairs for 6, 7 and 8 people.

9. Minimum area occupied by a dining table with chairs for 4, 5 people.

10. Minimum size of the dining room for 6 people. with a round table and built-in corner buffets.

11. Large dining room for 12 people. with a buffet and service aisle. Comfortable arrangement of chairs. It is possible to expand the dining room due to adjacent rooms (sliding partitions are used).

12. In America, the dining table, buffet and cupboard are often located in the room in front of the kitchen, M 1: 200

13. Dining niche (with or without curtain) in a large common room with an entrance from the kitchen is a transitional step to a separate dining room (architect Byrne), M 1: 400

14. Dining room between the kitchen and the family room. The dining table is placed in a very quiet place (architect Schwanderer), M 1: 400

15. Dining room between the terrace and the common room; exit to the terrace through a folded door, M 1: 400

16. The dining room and living room open onto a common terrace. Good lighting of both rooms, M 1: 400

What is the height according to GOST?

According to the state standard, the dimensions of a traditional stool are as follows: the side of the seat is at least 30-32 cm, the height from the floor to the surface of the seat is 42-48 cm. At the same time, the table at which they sit on the stool is also of a standard height - 72-78 cm.

But tables can be higher, for example, bar counters; their height ranges from 85 to 130 cm . In these cases, stools must be selected in such a way that the difference in height between the table and stool is approximately 35-40 cm.

If the height of the table is, say, 90 cm, then the height of the stool should be about 55 cm; if the height of the table is about 1 m, the height of the chair is correspondingly approximately 60 cm.

It is important to note that if the height of the stool is more than 50 cm, foot bars must be attached to its legs, and the distance from the cross bar to the seat of the stool must correspond to the standard height of chairs of 42-48 cm.

Children have their own standards:

  • with a child’s height up to 1.16 m, the table height is 46, and the stools are 26 cm;
  • with a height of 1.20 m - 53 and 31 cm, respectively;
  • with a height of 1.40 m - table 59, chair 35 cm;
  • with a height of 1.50 m - 64 and 38.

Stool height according to standard

There is no particular difference from the chair. However, this is a fundamentally different piece of furniture, and therefore it is worth talking about the height specified in the standard separately. If you choose such a stool and use it correctly, there will be no risk to your health. The table below shows standard chair heights. It is recommended to take these GOST parameters into account when purchasing.

Stool likeOptimal stool height from floor to seat
Universal35-40 cm
Work, office and home40-50 cm
For kitchen35 cm

Universal suitable, for example, for a hallway. Of course, a chair is better for a company leader than a stool. A baby chair will be approximately the same height as a chair, but less than 5 centimeters.

It is advisable to take into account standards, but when choosing furniture you should be guided primarily by the individual characteristics of a person. In the same way, you need to adjust the height of the kitchen chair. After all, there are people with very different proportions, which is also important to take into account.

Back design option

The importance of dimensions when choosing furniture

First of all, you should decide whether the furniture is being purchased for a specific person (for example, for a child’s desk or for a theater living room). If yes, then it is his build that should be taken into account. If the chair will be used by different people, the average parameters are taken into account. In this case, not only the height of a person matters, but also the length of his legs, the upper half of his body, the height and design of the table.

Incorrectly selected dimensions of a chair can cause pain in the spine, blurred vision, and rapid fatigue while sitting on it. If the legs do not reach the floor, the femoral arteries, which supply blood to the lower extremities, are compressed. As a result, a person experiences numbness in the legs, and subsequently has difficulty walking. A seat set too high causes the person sitting to slouch and bend his spine so as to bring his eyes closer to the table.

If, on the contrary, the seat is too low, then the person’s position forces the back muscles to be in constant tension, raising the body as high as possible.

Correct body position on a chair

No less important for health is body position when sitting. The following pose is considered correct:

  • legs bent at right angles, feet touching the floor over their entire area, knees at lumbar level;
  • the lower back should rest on the back;
  • The length of the seat should be sufficient to support the knees;
  • your knees should not rest against the table top, there should be free space between them;
  • hands should lie on the table;
  • the torso should be in an upright position;
  • your back should form a right angle with the seat.

Rules for choosing by height

The standard sizes of stools are designed for an average human height of 1.65 m. These sizes are clearly not suitable for tall people and children. There is a single formula by which you can calculate the required height of a stool for an individual:

(P* 75/ 165) – 35

where P is the individual height of a person in centimeters, 75 is the standard height of a table, 165 is the average height of a person in centimeters, 35 is the difference between the height of a table and a stool.

But for a family where several people live, including children, this formula needs to be slightly modified.

Instead of the standard average value of 165, the arithmetic mean of the heights of all family members is taken.

If all these calculations are tedious and complicated, here are some tips for choosing:

  • when a person sits on a stool, his feet should be free on the floor, and his knees should be bent exactly at an angle of 90 degrees;
  • the distance between the knees and the table top should be about 10-15 cm;
  • The front edge of the stool should not put pressure on the lower thigh under the knees.

How to independently determine the optimal height

First, the height is measured. If everyone uses a chair, the average height is revealed. To do this, add up each person's growth rate and then divide by the number of people. Next, you need to multiply the resulting figure by 25. This is only an approximate value of the height from the floor to the seat.

Office model height

So you should go to the store and try different versions of approximately the same height. At the same time, the position in which a person will test the chair should ideally be as close as possible to the conditions of future use.

This is why it is often best to fit a chair to a matching table.

It becomes clear how low or high it is and whether adjustments to the calculation results are needed. After this, it remains to add 45 centimeters to the height from the floor to the seat to get the height of the backrest.

As with the previous step, it is important to first try on chairs that meet the criteria. Changes to size and height must be made if necessary.

Product dimensions with backrest

This is an easy way to accurately select the optimal chair height. If you can't sit on the furniture in a store, it's not worth buying anything there. After all, this is a violation of the basic principle of choosing whether it is a stool or a chair. When ordering online, it will be more difficult to determine the size, but if you know exactly the required height parameters, there will be no problems.

By the way, ideally craftsmen can make themselves the best chair from chipboard or chipboard, as well as a table. But here it is necessary to pay special attention to the evenness of surfaces, including countertops. With the correct width to length ratio, equal to or close to the standard, homemade furniture will be safe.

Kitchen table

Sometimes this can be relevant, especially when the price of furniture rises and it is impossible to buy it. But if you have no experience in making a chair, it is better to make structures on four legs, having first drawn up a plan. The figure should show all distances and areas. But for small children it is better to buy furniture.

Models for the kitchen

Kitchen chairs can be of various shapes and colors. They are made of wood, metal, plastic and even glass.

Don't forget that kitchen items often get dirty, and if you have fabric upholstery, it will deteriorate over time, so it's better to consider more practical options.

The height of kitchen chairs should correspond to the height of the table. This is an important indicator of comfort, and although many sellers may assure you that they are all the same, in reality this is far from the case.

In accordance with standard GOST indicators (for a table 72-78 cm), dimensions may vary:

  • The required height of the object from the base of the floor to the top of the back is 800-900 mm;
  • The size from the floor to the seat is in the range of 400-450 mm;
  • The height of the part on which you lean must be at least 450 mm;
  • The width of the back and seat is from 350 mm, and the depth is 500-550 mm.

For bar counters, the chair height will be different. Here you also need to consider the level of the surface at which you will sit.

Depending on this, the size from the tile to the seat will vary between 750 and 850 mm. The width of the seating surface should start at 460 mm, and the depth at 320 mm. The tilt radius will be 450 mm for standard models and 220 mm for lumbar models.

In bar models, a footstool for support will not be a superfluous accessory. If your kitchen countertop height is 90 cm, then the bar seating model will be 65 cm.

Nowadays, both tables and chairs can be made to order. The master will take into account all the individual characteristics of the customer’s physique: he will measure height, weight, lower leg and hip part of the body.

Such chairs will not only make you feel comfortable, but will also protect your spine from scoliosis.

Banquet products

Tables and chairs of this type are more comfortable than ordinary kitchen ones. Typically, restaurants use half-chairs or chairs with armrests. This creates more convenience and comfort, but takes up less space than when placed in chairs.

This also allows you to save space in the hall and seat more people. However, it must be remembered that the width of one seat must be at least 500 mm in order for a person to feel comfortable at the table.

Restaurant models can have an inclined back, which allows you to take a more relaxed posture and facilitates communication. Also, such chairs are wider, deeper, higher than standard options. At the same time, do not forget about the convenience of the waiters. To do this, the height of the object should not exceed 1000 mm.

Arrangement of furniture in cafes and restaurants. Ergonomics. Scheme

The main task when designing cafes and restaurants is to place the maximum number of tables in the hall and at the same time provide visitors with a comfortable environment. This article contains diagrams that will help you cope with this task.

Office chairs

When choosing a work chair, you need to know that the required chair height for eating and working differs. Most modern models have the ability to adjust the height and depth of the seat and the position of the back, but there are models with four legs with the back strongly tilted back. Most people are not comfortable in this position.

It is not comfortable to constantly be at your desk, “lounging”, and if you straighten up and sit without support, then by the end of the working day your back will hurt a lot.

SanPiN recommends the following standard when choosing the right chairs for subordinates:

  • The width and depth of the seat should start from 400 mm;
  • The seat should have height adjustment in the region of 400-450 mm, the tilt is measured in degrees: forward 15, and backward 5;
  • The front of the seat should be rounded;
  • It is necessary that the backrest has values from 300 to 380 mm, its angle of inclination should be close to 30 degrees;
  • It is recommended to choose a minimum length of armrests of 250-260 mm, a width of about 60 mm;
  • The armrests should also be adjustable in height and width.

Showing concern for your charges, choose models made from natural fabrics so that your back does not sweat in hot weather, and with headrests so that you can relax your neck muscles from time to time. All this will affect the quality of work of employees

What is workplace ergonomics

Workplace ergonomics is information that has been calculated by researchers for an efficient and productive human work process. This concept includes both the territorial organization of the workplace and the furniture in this area. Everything should work for the convenience of a person, so that he does not get tired quickly and can not be distracted from his work.

The science of ergonomics currently helps marketers and businessmen to correctly arrange shelves in stores, office spaces for employees, as well as buttons and information on websites. Ergonomics allows us to make our workplace such that we enjoy working.

Can you imagine working without getting tired? If you take action on your own and start following our advice, you will be able to not feel tired after work and be ready for new achievements. If you want to find a job from home, then you should worry about a workplace in advance.

We don’t have to study all the research of scientists. It will be enough to know what the specialists who organize workplaces already know. Next we will look in more detail at what workplace ergonomics is and what it consists of.

Chair parameters

For example, if the height of the table is 720-750 mm, then the height of the seat of the chair should be 430-450 mm. It is possible to reduce the height of the working surface of the table to 680 mm (for working with a keyboard or typewriter).

For seats, the width at the widest part of the chairs should be at least 360 mm; if the chair is a work chair, then the entire width is 400 mm. When using backrests with curvature in furniture, the radius of curvature should be 450 mm for regular full-size backrests (their height is up to 320 mm), and 220 mm for lumbar backrests (their height exceeds 320 mm).

Bar and semi-bar stools in the interior

Buying such products is not a problem now; it is important to choose a product that will harmoniously integrate into the design of the room. For example, wooden chairs go perfectly with classic interiors, and metal ones with modern or high-tech ones. Plastic chairs will be relevant for restaurants or cottages.

Standard standards

In Russia there is a state standard. He regulates the size of the furniture. According to GOST, the following dimensions are considered acceptable:

  • seat depth – 36–45 cm, working chair – 40–50 cm;
  • distance from the backrest to the seat – 16.5–20 cm;
  • The width of the seat is 36–45 cm, the width of the working chair is 40–50 cm.

Manufacturers take into account the standards. In stores you can find various models with both exact and average indicators. For families, it is better to choose adjustable models. The recommended length from floor to seat depends on the person’s height:

  • low – 40 cm;
  • average – 43 cm;
  • high – 45 cm.

The total length of a standard product cannot exceed 90 cm. At the same time, the distance from the floor to the seat should be up to 45 cm. The minimum width of the backrest is from 35, and the depth is up to 55 cm. A standard model for a user of average height should have a length of 75 cm.

If the product is oriented in all respects, but is not suitable for height, discomfort will overtake the owner within the first hour of use. The size of the chair directly affects your well-being and performance.

Stools

The height of the stool is important for proper body position. Modern manufacturers are striving to increase dimensions to make models more versatile. Standard indicators are:

  • seat parameters – from 32 cm;
  • leg length – from 50 cm;
  • the distance from the bar to the seat is from 38 cm.

Distinctive features of growing chairs, important selection criteria

There are products up to 48 cm in length. Some manufacturers make different footrests on each side of the stool so that the piece of furniture is suitable for family members of any height. The main thing is that it matches the size of the table.

Chairs with backs

The height of kitchen chairs is also regulated by GOST. Such models are located in bedrooms, dining area, living room. Standard sizes are:

  • total height – up to 90 cm;
  • distance to the seat – from 40 to 45 cm;
  • back length – from 45 cm.

For public institutions, the backrests are increased to 60 cm. They are made in compliance with the anatomical shape of the back. The curve follows the natural position of the spine in a relaxed state.

Adjustable chairs

The dimensions of the office chair are adjustable. It should be suitable for workers of any height. Now such models are used not only at work, but also at home as a computer chair. The following dimensions are important:

  • the distance from the seat to the floor is adjustable from 46 to 60 cm;
  • back – at least 45 cm;
  • seat width – at least 48 cm.

The correct height ensures comfortable sitting for a long time. This product adapts to almost any height. Adjustable models can be kitchen, bar, children's, medical, orthopedic, office and even designer models.

Bar

Such chairs do not fit into the state standard. They have different seat heights, minimum backrest and leg lengths. So, the length reaches 85 centimeters, the width – up to 46, and the depth – up to 32. When choosing such a model, only its compliance with the rack is taken into account.

Stages of making chair seats with your own hands, methods of fastening

Children's models

Children's furniture options can be orthopedic, computer and desk. Selection is carried out based on the following criteria:

AgeTable height, cmChair height, cm
Babies up to a meter tall4022
Schoolchildren under 7 years old5232
Children under 125735
Teenagers7646

Dimensions are selected according to the age and build of the child. Unlike adult models, giving preference to the optimal option is not the best solution. It is more rational to purchase a model for a specific child or teenager.

Rules for ergonomic furniture arrangement | My house

Do you know exactly what you want in your living room, bathroom or bedroom, but you're not sure whether everything will fit and how it will look? To correctly place all the necessary furniture in the available space, you must follow the rules of ergonomics. Namely, maintain the installation height, place objects at the correct distance from the walls and from each other. And of course, do not block the passages! Let's take a closer look at each room as an example.

American Coastal Properties
Don't interfere with movement
The laws of ergonomics take into account not only the physical dimensions of furniture, but the permissible distances between objects, proximity and distance from walls, and movement routes around the room. A person always subconsciously looks for the shortest path to a goal, suppose that this is the path from the entrance to the room to the balcony door. Objects that appear in his path will sooner or later begin to interfere. It’s one thing if you go out to the balcony once a week - you can put up with certain inconveniences. It’s completely different if you roll out the baby’s cradle several times a day (and return it to the balcony after a walk) or store a bicycle on the loggia. In this case, a sofa or table standing in the way of movement will really become an obstacle.

Hence the conclusion: it is important not just to take into account traffic routes and ergonomics, but to compare the numbers with your specific life scenarios. Adapt the setting if the scenario has changed.

Soma Architekci
Passages and detours
Having touched on the topic of paths, let's look at the width of the passage. If movement is expected between furniture and walls in living rooms, allow at least 90 cm - then two people can walk sideways. The minimum passage between furniture and walls in the narrowest place should not be less than 70 cm (this is the required distance for one person).

If we are talking about a place where people will constantly intersect (corridor), it is better to clear at least 110 cm so that two people can calmly separate. Remember this size when you think about built-in cabinets in the hallway: perhaps in your case it is better to abandon the idea of cabinets or you will have to make the furniture shallow.

Stairs

The design of the staircase determines how easy it will be for you to go up and down it. Building regulations set standards that may vary slightly depending on the proportions of the human body. The golden rule of staircase design is that two risers plus one step equals 63-64 cm. For example, if you want the depth of the step to be 28 cm, the risers should be 17.8 cm each.

Living room

The minimum distance between pieces of furniture in the living room (for example, the distance from a sofa or armchair to a coffee table) is 30 cm. In general, the room will not look overloaded if the gaps between pieces of furniture are 60 cm. There is no point in creating more distance - from the chair It will be difficult for you to reach the table, you will have to get up.

tatiana nicol

Advice:

If there is an extra bed in the sofa, or if a game console with a motion sensor is connected to the TV, you need to consider where you will move the coffee table. Moreover, not just move it, but move it safely - so that you don’t accidentally trip over it when you’re asleep at night.

Folio Design London

Another important size for a living room is the distance at which you hang the TV relative to the sofa. It all depends on the size of the diagonal - with a diagonal of 37 it is recommended to sit no closer than 180 cm from the screen, with a diagonal of 50 - the distance increases to 250 cm. Manufacturers of modern TVs allow that the user will sit closer without harm to health.

Advice:

Sit on the sofa and try to align the center of the sofa with the eye level of the beholder. A deviation of no more than 15 degrees in the height of the center of the screen relative to the eyes is permissible.

Kitchen measurements

Be sure to plan a countertop between the stove and the sink: the minimum permissible distance is 50 cm, the recommended one is 80 cm. If you have placed the set along two parallel walls, in order for the doors to open smoothly, a distance of 120 cm is required. Otherwise, it is better to abandon the parallel layout . The same rule applies to the parallel lines of the kitchen if you are planning an island or peninsula: keep a distance of 100-120 cm. The passages on the sides of the island are at least 70 cm clean (do not forget about radiators and other protruding parts).

Tip:
Group appliances and their corresponding storage systems. So, it is better to place the dishwasher at the sink, next to the cabinet for storing dishes.

Store pots, pans, baking sheets and other cooking utensils as close to the hob and oven as possible. Seasonings, cutting boards and oven mitts should always be at hand, so it is appropriate to keep them in drawers or wall cabinets next to the stove.

It is more convenient to place the oven and microwave at chest level, then you do not have to bend over.

Dining table location

From the edge of the table to the wall and stationary furniture - less than 60-70 cm (so that a person can sit comfortably). If it is assumed that the person sitting is supposed to walk behind to the next chair, we increase the distance to 80-90 cm. And if there is supposed to be a passage with the table at all, then there should be 100-110 cm from the edge. Well, if waiters suddenly carry trays at the table, then all 140 cm.

Advice:

If you want to play billiards at home, simply buying a table will not be enough, because it is equally important to provide room for maneuver around the table, at least 1.5 m on each side. The same applies to tennis tables. Table football requires less space, chess and card tables are even more compact.

Bedroom measurements

It would seem that we only sleep in the bedroom - why calculate any dimensions of the passage. But if you neglect the laws of ergonomics, there is a high risk of hitting your feet on protruding corners, which is very, very unpleasant. Therefore, the first and main advice is not to narrow the passages. Allow at least 70 cm for passage around the bed. But the distance between the wardrobe and the wall, bed, or other wardrobe should be at least 80 cm, and preferably 100 cm.

McCroskey Interiors

Advice:

If you plan to create a sitting area in the bedroom, as in this photo, you will need not just space for a table and chairs, but enough space (otherwise you simply won’t use the seating area). If there is no minimum area ─ 2.5x2.5 m, then it is better not to plan such an area in the bedroom. It's even better to have 3x3m, and this should be just a free space, away from the bed, chest of drawers and dressing table.

Habitables

Set up a work area, a make-up area, and a reading area.

It is best to do this near the window, so that the light falls from the left side; and, conversely, on the right side, if the person is left-handed, so as not to obscure the light. If it is not possible to place the table in the desired way due to the layout, then you need to think about good artificial lighting.

Hicks Fine Homes – (Hicks Interiors Inc.)

Measurements in the bathroom

Do you want to extend the countertop so that it extends over the toilet and is a continuation of the Moidodyr countertop, as in this photo? The standard installation height of the countertop corresponds to the height of a typical sink cabinet ─ from 81 to 91 cm. Perhaps in your case the sink, sink and countertop need to be hung a little higher? To find the right level, you need to measure the height of the toilet. It should not only fit under the tabletop, its lid should open easily, and there should be a couple of centimeters left for fingers to lower it. If we are talking about a hanging model, a few centimeters can cause a lot of inconvenience.

How to choose an office chair?

Jens Kapelmann, head of sales for Dauphin, one of Germany's largest chair manufacturers, gives advice on how to choose a good work chair for minimal money. Ask the seller the following questions:

  1. Does the chair have a synchro mechanism? This is when the seat and backrest synchronously and automatically repeat the movements of the seated person: forward, backward, sideways. Thus, without losing contact of the spine with the back of the chair, the person is in active movement, the spine is relaxed, and there is no unnecessary tension on the muscles. This is the main thing. Without a synchronizing mechanism, a chair is not a chair, but a stool with a backrest.
  2. Is there an adjustable backrest resistance? Each person has a different weight, so the different forces that we put on the back of the chair must be proportionately compensated by its resistance. Otherwise, fragile little girls will sit like soldiers, unable to overcome their backrest. And large men are always in a relaxed reclining position, which is not very well received by their superiors. It’s good when you find a balance: the back should tilt relatively easily - but not so much that it “flies away”. The adjustment can be mechanical or automatic.
  1. Is there seat depth adjustment? According to the rules of ergonomics, there should be a distance from the edge of the seat to the inner bend of the knee the width of your palm. If it is less, you “slide” out of the chair. If it is larger, you drown in it, causing your leg muscles to strain unnecessarily.

  1. Is there a negative seat angle? And, at the same time, backrests, less than 90 degrees - this is when the backrest, following the person sitting, seems to fall towards the table. A negative seat tilt is needed in order to get rid of excess pressure on the inner thigh, due to which the blood flow in this place is pinched and the muscles do not receive proper nutrition and oxygen. This happens when you are forced to work for a long time in a position inclined towards the table (writing with a pen, peering at the data on the monitor). Require a negative slope!
  2. Are there armrests? When you want to save money, the first thing you get rid of in your chair is the armrests. And this is a mistake. The armrests are aligned with the tabletop, so your wrist, forearm and hand on the keyboard (or with a pen) are always at the same level. The arm (including the shoulders) is always relaxed. And that's great. There are no armrests - and all day long your muscles do nothing but support your arms, forcing your shoulders to rise higher and higher, leading to slouching and increased tension in the shoulder girdle. The ability to adjust their height and width is important in armrests. All sorts of 3D and other mechanisms are from the evil one.
  1. Is the back height adjustable? More precisely the height of the lumbar support. It's good if yes. The lumbar support ensures the tightest contact of the back of the chair with the point of greatest curvature of the spine. It’s bad when the lumbar support rests on the buttocks or, on the contrary, almost on the shoulder blades. The tighter the contact, the more relaxed the sitting posture. But, in fact, the height of the backrest does not play an ergonomic role. This is purely a symbol of the status and importance of the person sitting, nothing more.

All. The minimum program has been completed. The remaining options are a matter of subjective wishes and available budgets.

And finally, a few comments:

— The mesh back is not inferior in ergonomics to a regular back upholstered in fabric. The mesh is more convenient in the summer - it allows air to pass through well and is ventilated.

— The headrest is a completely empty device. It has no ergonomic role.

— The plastic base of the chair is not inferior in its characteristics to the metal one. Modern plastic in chairs is special, highly durable. It can easily serve for 10 years or more, and is not particularly susceptible to any serious damage.

— When choosing a work chair, it would be good to pay attention to the fabric with which it is upholstered. The main characteristic of fabric is its abrasion and wear resistance index. It is expressed in Martindales. For an office chair this index must be at least 80 000.

— It’s worth clarifying the type of wheels. They are available for hard floors (with soft felt attachments so as not to damage the floor) and, on the contrary, for soft floors (with plastic attachments so that they glide better on carpeting).

— The normal warranty for a work chair is 5 years. If they give less, it’s a reason to think about it.

— If you need to save money: choose cheaper fabric, a plastic base of the chair, mechanical rather than automatic adjustments, a lower backrest. You cannot skimp on mechanisms and armrests.

Why you need to make an ergonomic workplace

Workplace ergonomics is important for every person who sits in one place for a long time and even worse behind a computer screen. It has long been proven that the monitor itself does not spoil our vision in any way. It shrinks due to the fact that a person looks at one point for a long time and focuses his eyes on more distant objects. By the way, the time we should spend at the computer is also regulated by ergonomics. You can even download an application that will prompt you to do an eye warm-up every 10-15 minutes and get up from the table every hour.

Yes, ergonomics allows us to create a comfortable, convenient, and most importantly efficient workplace. It will help us reduce the risk of diseases of the joints, eyes, problems with weight and the circulatory system. However, you still need to get up because of it. At least once an hour or every 2 hours you need to walk around and do warm-up exercises. This is the only way you can maintain your health and youth.

The best thing to do is sign up for a sports section. This will help you incorporate scheduled sports into your schedule.

Nevertheless, for those who have a responsible job and any distraction from work can lead to disastrous results, we have prepared a list of tips. This way you can prevent the appearance of carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as the appearance of osteochondrosis, obesity and even depression.

The ergonomics of your workplace will allow you to enjoy life every working day, rather than suffer.

Desk height

It is better to select the height of the desktop and computer desk individually. If several people will work at the same table, we recommend focusing on the tallest one. For those who are shorter, you can use a chair with height adjustment or add a pillow when working. So that the height remains optimal. See the table below for the ratio of height, table and chair height.

What is the standard for the chair

what is the optimal height for the average person found. Similar studies were carried out both in relation to children's furniture and in relation to adults.

For kitchen and hall

The general goal of these works is to determine the dependence of health on furniture and to identify the optimal characteristics of the latter. The table below shows the standard chair height for adults of average height (from 165 cm to 180 cm) according to SanPiN for 2022.

Options for solutions to non-standard situations

But what about those who are 155 cm or 195 cm tall? After all, there are quite a lot of such people. Do they have to suffer all their lives, sitting at uncomfortable tables? Of course not. Here I personally see three options for solving the problem:

  1. 1.You can achieve a comfortable position by changing the height of the chair.
    Modern office chairs allow you to adjust the height of the user's position relative to the table. So why not take advantage of this? But this option is suitable for people whose height is below 168 cm. You can simply adjust the height of the chair, setting for yourself the most comfortable height position relative to the top of the table.

    However, I want to note that if you raise the chair higher, your legs will no longer be bent at the knees at 90 degrees. Therefore, you definitely need to install a low stand under your feet. This way you can ensure a comfortable position at a standard height computer desk. But this method, I repeat once again, is suitable for short people. But what about tall PC users? And for tall people, perhaps the second or third option is suitable. Let's move on to them.

  2. 2. Customize the table to the proper height.
    This method is a good solution for tall people, and it is also suitable for those whose height is below 168 cm. You have the calculation formula. So, I think you can quickly determine the height of your computer desk by making it yourself or custom-made. And finally, the third way.
  3. 3.Make a table with an adjustable tabletop height.
    Height-adjustable tables are now popular among manufacturers of furniture for schoolchildren. The child grows, and his desk “grows” with him - this is the correct and thoughtful approach. Actually, we can take it into account when designing a computer desk, at which a short mother-in-law, 155 cm tall, and her beloved son-in-law, 192 cm tall, will work. We can make it possible to adjust the height of the tabletop to suit the height of each user.

    I would not call this method ideal - it has a number of disadvantages. For example, the ability to design some models of extensions for such tables becomes more difficult. Also, to change the height of the tabletop, you will have to remove everything from the table. However, it is possible that this particular option may be the most successful solution to the issue for someone.

So, we looked at the issue of calculating the height of a computer desk. I hope I was able to present the information in an intelligible and understandable manner. All that remains is to make a decision in favor of one option or another. But you must do this yourself. I wish everyone good luck! I'm sure you will succeed!

What is the correct chair height for a kitchen table? What should the table be like? You shouldn’t eat and work at the same table, and here’s why – the height and height of the work table should be different. Consider the height of the kitchen table.

What is the most comfortable way to sit at the kitchen table? When it is too low, you will have to bend over to the plate; if the chair is uncomfortable, the person sitting behind it will slouch.

Mezzanine ventilation

Perhaps this place will be the most stuffy in the entire house or apartment. We all know that warm air moves upward, which means that sleeping conditions will not be entirely comfortable. Therefore, it is worth thinking about forced ventilation or making some additional structures that increase air circulation.

It’s good if there is a ventilation duct where the mezzanine is built, then the ventilation problem can be solved very quickly. If the second level is located in the attic or in a one-story house, then the exhaust duct can be run through the roof.

As an alternative solution, you can use a ventilation duct to combine the mezzanine room with any other room with the installation of flexible steel pipes and an additional fan. Still, it is better to consult a specialist in this matter.

There can be two lighting options: daylight or artificial light. It all depends on the functional purpose. If only the sleeping area is located on the second level, then there is no need for daylight. But for a study or library you need to provide good natural lighting. This may require making changes to the wall structure, breaking through a window opening, or installing a light tunnel.

Artificial light must be on the mezzanine. This can be solved by conducting electricity and selecting lamps that match the interior.

The Scarecrow the Wise invited Uncle Styopa and the gnomes to a dinner party. Everyone except him felt out of place. He will no longer invite them to his place. To avoid finding yourself in such a situation, listen to our advice.

Creating furniture that is comfortable for people has always been the main task of manufacturers.

Each country has its own standards for dining tables and chairs.

The dining table should be comfortable for the whole family. This is an axiom that does not require proof. But achieving harmony is not easy - mass-produced furniture may not be suitable.

The comfortable height of the dining table directly depends on the level of the chair and the parameters of the person.

The height of the table from floor to tabletop is designed for a person of average height - 1.65 m. According to the requirements of GOST 13025.3-85 for furniture, the standard height of a dining table is 0.72-0.78 m.

When choosing a dining room set, it is necessary to take into account the height of all adult family members.

If this is not enough, then the height of the dining table is calculated using the formula:

V=Рср*ВГОСТ/РСТ,

B – calculated table height,

RSR – average height of adult family members,

VGOST – table height according to GOST – 750 mm,

PCT – the average height of an adult is 1650 mm.

For comparison, in public canteens and snack bars the standard height is 65 cm.

If you have a large kitchen, then a square table is best.

The average height of your family members is determined by the arithmetic mean. According to this formula, the main ranges for the dining table are calculated:

  • Short people (up to 1.5 m) – 0.75-0.77 m;
  • Below average height (1.5-1.65 m) – 0.8-0.83 m;
  • Standard value according to GOST (1.65-1.8 m) – 0.85-0.9 m;
  • For tall ones (above 1.8 m) – from 1 m.

The kitchen table is the center of the dining area. It must satisfy the needs of those who live in the house and those who come to visit.

Any family gathers once every six months for a family celebration. The festive table must satisfy the following conditions:

  • One person should occupy at least 0.5 m of the perimeter of the tabletop;
  • Select the height of the table in accordance with the above formula, width - no less than 0.65 m;

The height of the table determines the level of comfort of use. Here it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of the physiological structure of the human body.

For normal sitting at a table, we need at least 70 cm, so the average height of a standard table is around 75 cm.

ON A NOTE!

Choose compact models with a sliding tabletop.

This is how it is in Europe and Russia - it is customary to sit on a chair at the table.

The standard height of a kitchen chair means the height from the floor to the seat is 40-45 cm.

It should have a comfortable backrest and a comfortable seat height for a person, approximately equal to one-fourth of the average height of adult family members. With a height of 1.8 m, its height will be 0.45 m.

The optimal seat depth is 40-45 cm (the seat should not dig under the knees). A person of average height will be comfortable sitting at a table with a height of 74 cm.

ON A NOTE!

The distance from the seat to the tabletop should not exceed 0.3-0.34 m.

People of different heights come to visit and it is impossible to guess the size of the chair in advance. Invest in one or two chairs with adjustable seat heights and footrests for such occasions.

Remember that the standard height of a dining table according to GOST is “adjusted” to a person 165 cm tall.

You don’t need a crowbar to keep your back straight at your desk...

Having a comfortable workspace is essential for you and your child.

One of the most necessary things for your child at school age will be a desk.

Staying in an uncomfortable position for a long time leads to rapid fatigue. In addition, there is a risk of occurrence or exacerbation of chronic diseases of the spinal and cervical spine.

Choosing a desk will not be difficult if you know just a few basic parameters.

Selection of the height of the table and chair for an adult is carried out using the above formula. Usually they are 0.77-0.82 m and 0.45-0.49 m. The length of the backrest should be at least 0.35 m.

Correctly calculated height of a computer desk promotes good health and productive work.

Determining the optimal dimensions of a table for a child is more difficult than for an adult. Children grow actively until they are 18 years old, so furniture will have to be changed every 2-3 years. This problem becomes most pressing from the age of 7, when the child begins to go to school.

Many manufacturers now offer “growing” tables or desks.

When making a purchase, try to maintain the following parameters:

Make sure the important details are followed:

  • The feet fully touch the floor when the leg is bent at an angle of 90 to 100°;
  • The gap between the chest and the edge of the furniture is 0.8 m;
  • A sitting teenager rests his elbows on the tabletop, without bending his back or lifting his shoulders high,
  • The computer monitor is placed at a distance of at least 0.5 m, the child looks at it at an angle of 0-30°, bending the neck back is unacceptable. If the furniture is too high and it is not possible to change it, then purchase a footrest and place a pillow on the seat of the chair.

If a child, sitting at the table, puts his hand down, then the ideal position would be for his elbow to be 5-6 cm below the tabletop.

When positioned correctly, the tabletop is at the level of the child's solar plexus.

IMPORTANT!

Make your child take a “recess” every 40 minutes.

Take care of the health and comfort of your family and friends. A correctly selected height of the dining table will add a feeling of coziness to a family celebration and will make you want to meet again. A kitchen set designed to suit your wife’s figure will preserve her beautiful posture for many years. Your child, sitting at a well-functioning desk, will learn better and be less sick.

In order not to rack your brains over complex issues of space ergonomics and choosing the most convenient dimensions of furniture, there are standard sizes.

Most manufacturers who are in direct contact with the buyer produce interesting furniture models tailored to the size of each individual family.
