Do-it-yourself door painting: surface preparation and painting features

The properties of louvered doors are determined by their design - the presence of transverse slats. They have the following advantages:

  • Good ventilation. Louvre doors offer little obstruction to air movement, so there are no problems with high humidity or stale air. Even in closed, rarely used rooms.
  • Better heat distribution. It is difficult to ensure normal air conditions in unheated rooms with ordinary doors. The presence of blinds solves this problem. In storage rooms and technical rooms separated by louvered doors, the temperature is automatically equalized.

Louvered doors create almost no barriers to air movement

  • Visually “lighter” doors with blinds look interesting and put less strain on the interior.
  • Interesting appearance. This design, of course, is not for everyone, but in some styles it looks very good.
  • Doors with a large number of slats and gaps between them are more technologically complex. Their production requires attention, precision, and accuracy. Only under such conditions will the result be good - it will be pleasant to use and look at. This is why louvered doors are much more expensive than regular doors. And this despite the fact that only the frame is made from solid wood. Partitions-lamellas are made of laminated wood. This is due to the fact that thin wooden planks will “twist” when humidity changes. The presence of several layers with multidirectional fibers interspersed with layers of glue allows us to solve the problem.

    Other disadvantages:

  • Lack of sound insulation. The presence of a large number of gaps between the slats negates all soundproofing characteristics. In this regard, it doesn’t matter whether these doors exist or not.
  • Free movement of dust. One area where roller doors can be used is in wardrobes. But the clothes placed in them are in no way protected from dust, which is more than enough in our homes.

When using blinds in cabinet doors, dust easily penetrates inside.
The disadvantages of doors with louvered grilles are quite serious. Before installation, you should think seriously and decide what is more important to you: their advantages or disadvantages.

How to make a cabinet with louvered doors with your own hands

“I’ve liked louvered doors for a long time. They are very functional. We have closets in the hallway, clothes from outside can be dried without any problems. And they fit perfectly into our loft style,” says Irina Lapkina. She designed the cabinet herself using materials from Leroy Merlin. I painted it in a fashionable gray-blue shade and installed it in the hallway. In the interview, we talked with Irina about the DIY idea and its implementation.

Recently, Irina’s family moved to a new apartment. The question arose of what cabinets to put in the spacious hallway. The guys decided: the project should be individual in size, color and structure.

Louvered doors as the basis of a cabinet

“In previous apartments, we also tried to make custom cabinets. We contacted furniture factories, gave them our measurements, made projects together with managers, so I had a rough idea of the whole process,” shares Irina.

But this time the family decided: the doors on the closet should have louvres. There were no such things in the factories. “And individual workshops for working with wood gave too high a price,” says the heroine of our article and continues: “We bought everything we needed for repairs in Leroy Merlin. And then I came across wooden shutter doors. My brain immediately began to actively work on how to reproduce the dream of a louvered closet in our long corridor.”

Louvered doors in Leroy Merlin are made of coniferous wood and are available in different sizes. Price - from 214 rubles. a piece. Width - from 39.4 to 59.4 cm, height - from 46.7 to 201.3 cm. You can organize either a small cabinet for storing spices in the kitchen or a wardrobe in two or three tiers for a bedroom or hallway. Wood can be easily covered with stain and varnish, or thick paint.

Five questions for the interview heroine

We asked Irina about the main stages of choosing materials, design and assembly.

— Why natural wood?

— Wood in the house always means warmth and comfort, and it smells delicious.

— Why do you like louvered doors?

- Relevant. Beautiful. Eco-friendly.

— How did you design the closet?

- According to the size of the corridor. We opened the Leroy Merlin website, looked at the sizes of the available louvered doors, and chose the ones we needed. We drew out the closet according to the size of the doors and understood what partitions and shelves were needed. We chose laminated chipboard and ordered the sheets to be cut at Leroy Merlin. It is very convenient, fast and inexpensive. The main thing is that for sawn parts you do not need to order delivery or bring a large machine. All wooden parts easily fit into a car.

Valid in Leroy Merlin stores. You can choose wooden furniture panels, chipboards or laminated chipboards and other wood-based materials, inform the craftsmen of the exact dimensions and order cutting. If necessary, our employees will help you choose edges and tell you how to secure them to the cuts.

— How did you assemble the entire structure, yourself or hired craftsmen?

— We hired a furniture maker. True, he had never assembled such large wardrobes from different parts before. But if you have a head and skillful hands, there will be no problems installing a pre-drawn cabinet according to its dimensions.

— How did you choose the color?

— Our apartment is made in several basic shades. I took my favorite blue-gray tray from home and took it to Leroy Merlin to have it done tone on tone. When they gave me the entire palette, my head swam for a moment, because there were a huge variety of shades and their codes. It took me at least half an hour to decide on the tone.

In Leroy Merlin hypermarkets you can use the paint tinting service. Just buy a white water emulsion of the desired class: evaluate in advance which one you need, ordinary or washable. Choose one of 6,500 shades of paint. A special machine will drop the required amount of color into each container and thoroughly mix the paint to obtain the selected shade. The tinting process will take a maximum of 10 minutes.

Dream wardrobe

As a result, Irina grew a wardrobe 4.5 meters long in her house. It fit everything you need, from clothes and shoes to stepladders and boxes of household appliances.

Types and materials

Before purchasing louvered doors, it is useful to find out what they are made of and which ones are best to choose:

  1. Wooden. Classic cheap models are made of pine and spruce, expensive ones are made of oak and ash. Wood is afraid of moisture, and the paint applied to it can fade in the sun. This should be taken into account when arranging the cabinet.
  2. Plastic. This material is considered the most versatile and cheapest of all. It does not look as beautiful as wood, but it is resistant to environmental influences and is easily wiped off from dirt.
  3. Metal. Least popular. They are installed as additional protective shutters for windows and doors, as well as in technical cabinets. Metal is not afraid of mechanical stress. With the right coating it will not corrode.

Wood is considered the most popular material when making cabinet doors.

Blinds can be divided into 4 types according to the opening method:

  1. Classic swing. Fastened with 2-3 loops.
  2. Sliding. The mechanism consists of guide profiles and movable rollers mounted on the sashes.
  3. Roller blinds - opening and closing the cabinet is carried out by rolling up the curtain using a chain or spring mechanism attached to the upper part of the structure.
  4. Accordions. Folds and unfolds like a book.

Preparing the canvas for dyeing

Separate the door from the hinges and place it on a horizontal surface. If you plan to use alkyd paint, it is better to take the door leaf out into the yard. Secure the door so that it is convenient to paint each part of it. Unscrew the fittings. If it is not removable, wrap it with film and seal it with tape. It is also necessary to seal the glass of the door windows, if any.

Pre-cleaning

Remove the previous coating from the wooden panel, including putty and primer. There should be bare wood left. It is easy to complete this stage of work using a grinding device, a hair dryer, or a solvent liquid.

Next, sand the wooden surface, smooth out the slightest defects, and degrease. For this purpose, use a sanding device and a vacuum cleaner. If you don’t have a device, you can use medium-grain sandpaper.

Puttying and sanding

Having completed sanding, primed the surface, putty any noticeable defects. If the final coating will be varnish, then use a composition intended for wood. If the paint is opaque, use any putty.

If the defects and depressions on the door are large and the final finish is dark or opaque, use automotive putty that does not contain fiberglass.

Leave the putty to dry for the time specified in the instructions. Then sand again. Use medium-grit sandpaper first and finish with fine-grit sandpaper.

Antiseptic coating

If the door is in a bathhouse or other room with high humidity, then before painting the wooden surface must be treated with a fire retardant and antiseptic. It is recommended to buy formulations of the same brand, designed to interact strongly with each other, providing high-quality coverage.

After applying antiseptic protection, prime the door and putty. Treat every inch of the door leaf, including decorative holes and crevices between the jamb and the wall. After the first putty layer has dried, apply a second one.

Color without interruption

Now that you are ready to start painting, do everything at once without taking a break. If you stop within a coat for even a few minutes, the paint may dry unevenly and cause blemishes. Latex paints can dry and be ready for a second coat in about four hours. Oil paints must dry for 24 hours before applying a second coat. After the first coat has dried, professionals often recommend sanding again using 320-grit sandpaper. Remove any remaining paint dust with a clean cloth and apply a second coat.

Dyeing technology

If you are painting a new canvas, you should protect it from swelling. First lay it on a flat surface and sand it with sandpaper or a sander. Then the panel is primed, the recesses and smooth areas are processed. After the surface has dried, secondary treatment is carried out.

Rice. 8. Directions for painting the canvas

An old house door needs to be painted with high quality so that there are no stains or smudges on its surface. It is unlikely that you need to buy a spray bottle to paint one or two canvases, so you can use a paneled brush or roller.

After you have chosen what you can use to paint a wooden door, you should familiarize yourself with some of the nuances of the work:

  • fluff the brush, removing poorly fixed hairs;
  • You need to paint a panel door correctly in 3 stages, using a roller, from the upper left corner you need to move to the right, covering the entire canvas. After drying, the door must be processed in the longitudinal direction. Then you need to paint the canvas from the upper right corner ;
  • When processing paneled fabric, you need to use a brush and treat the surface carefully, avoiding excess coating.

Rice. 9. Sequence of web processing

Painting with alkyd enamel

To coat doors with alkyd enamel, the following steps should be followed:

  • remove the panel from the hinges so that paint drips do not appear on the surface. Then use a spatula and sandpaper to remove abrasions and the old layer, thoroughly rinse the surface and inspect for defects. Chips and cracks are puttied, the surface is dried and sanded. At the last stage, priming is carried out;
  • the finished canvas lies on a horizontal surface of the floor, table or workbench, covered with polyethylene. The existing glass is sealed with tape. For a paneled door, first paint the panels with a brush, and then the protrusions. Subsequently, the entire panel is painted with a roller. With a two-layer application of alkyd enamel, the result will be a consumption of 40-80 g/m2;
  • Additionally, you can tint the wenge fabric by impregnating it with a special compound. This paint is based on natural oils. After a layer of paint has been applied, you need to run it over it with a rubber spatula or sponge about 10 times;
  • you can take liquid soap with paint. First, the panel is covered with paint and liquid soap. You need to apply another layer of coating to the soap.

How to coat a solid wood door: varnishes, paints for applying a protective layer

Wooden doors look aesthetically pleasing and elegant. There are many opportunities to buy blanks for painting or varnishing. It's cheap and practical. You can paint the old product in the desired tone that matches the interior. Many people wonder what is used to cover solid wood doors. There are many upgrade options. The only thing that is necessary is to adhere to the technology of preparing the canvas and painting.

Solid pine surface covered with enamel

Features of painting door panels

It often happens that old doorways have a good frame and panel, but have lost their original luster. An affordable, simple method of updating is coating with coloring materials. Any person can handle this kind of work. It is enough to know the properties of the paint and varnish materials from which the doors are made. Attention is paid to compliance with the technology of painting structures:

  • Paneled canvases. Before painting, they are disassembled into elements, since the number of joints leads to wear and requires updating.
  • Solid wood: heavy structures that convey the natural structure of wood. To update, use varnish or paint for such wood-look doors.

With varnish applied

  • MDF. Painting the structure is simple, but before doing this, carefully prepare the surface.

Choosing the shade of interior door designs

The range of paints makes it possible to implement different design solutions, so the question of how to cover the surface does not arise. Three color trends are visible in the design: delicate, light shades; bright shades of yellow, red; dark shades. When choosing a color, adhere to the following principles:

Shades of colors

  • Shades of chocolate and cherry add luxury and sophistication.
  • In the bedroom and children's room, choose light colors that create coziness and comfort.
  • Solid wood doors are suitable for log houses.
  • In a room with antique furniture, artificially aged ones look great.
  • The color of the door frame is made darker (lighter) than the walls.

Selection of painting material

High-quality paint does not come cheap. Sometimes stores offer discounts on quality paints as they approach their expiration date. If painting is carried out immediately after purchasing the paint and varnish material, then this option will save money without reducing quality.

When thinking about what solid wood doors are coated with, you will need knowledge about paint and varnish materials. The range of paints is divided into: transparent, opaque. The first include impregnations, varnishes, and glazes. When the canvas is treated with a transparent coating, the natural color and wood pattern are emphasized. For solid wood canvases, varnish is often used. It protects the surface from moisture and various influences. Varnishes come in clear and tinted varieties.

Important. When purchasing varnish, pay attention to the drying speed. It is better to take quick-drying paintwork. It does not spread on the surface and is also harmless.

Opaque coatings include alkyd and oil-based coloring materials that have their own characteristics. Most often used:

Paint for doorways

  1. Nitro paint. It has aesthetic properties, a wide color palette that is superior to other types of paints. It has strength and wear resistance. But it is harmful to health, its fumes are toxic.
  2. Acrylic. Suitable for use in rooms. When painting, it applies well and there is no toxic smell. The disadvantages of paint include low strength and high cost. To increase durability, acrylic varnish is applied to the paint.
  3. Alkyd enamel. It is affordable, has a wide range of shades, and forms a durable coating. This paint is suitable for wooden doors, it is wear-resistant, economical, and dries quickly. Significant disadvantage: the unpleasant odor persists for 2 days. This type of paint is not used where allergy sufferers or children live.

Preparatory work before painting

To cover the door with paint and varnish, you need to carry out some preparatory work. First of all, prepare the tool:

  • brush;
  • paint container;
  • rags;
  • gloves;
  • scotch;
  • sandpaper;
  • 4 stools;
  • putty knife.

Be sure to prepare paint and varnish materials.

Painting tools

The next step is preparing the canvas. It is removed from the canopies and placed horizontally on stools. If the chosen paint has a pungent, unpleasant odor, then the work should be done outside. Remove the fittings. Fixed elements are wrapped in paper and tape. The lock is closed with masking tape. To properly coat the surface, prepare it:

Removing old coating

  1. Remove the old paint coating and primer using a grinding machine, sandpaper, or stripping solution.
  2. Pre-grinding is performed, which helps remove scratches and paint.
  3. Remove dust and dirt.
  4. Fill imperfections and cracks in wood.
  5. After drying, the canvas is puttied with medium-grain sandpaper and then with fine-grain sandpaper.

Attention. Darkened wood is lightened with a mixture of chlorine bleach and water (3 to 1).

Scheme, procedure for coating a door with paintwork

The painting material is applied to the doors according to a specific pattern. The panel surface is painted in 3 stages. It is better to use a roller. It ensures uniform application and does not leave streaks. Start painting from the top from the corner of the door, across from left to right. Then, after drying, apply a second layer lengthwise, and a third layer crosswise.

The paneled door is painted with a brush, starting from the recesses. Make sure that no excess paint remains. Afterwards, the door is painted with a roller in accordance with the painting scheme for the panel surface. For rich color, paint in 3 layers.

Before varnishing doors, take into account the number of layers. Quality and appearance depend on this. Most often apply 3 times. Each layer is applied after the previous one has dried. The number of layers can be found on the varnish jar itself - information is provided by the manufacturer.

The varnish is applied to the wooden door with a large brush. If there are patterns, then use brushes of different sizes. To ensure that the varnished surface is smooth, painting is carried out on a flat surface with the door in a horizontal position.

To varnish, the canvas is placed in a horizontal position.

The first (base) layer is made with diluted (water, solvent) varnish along the length of the wood structure. You cannot stop the process, as dark spots remain. The next layer is applied crosswise, after drying and treating the surface with fine sandpaper. Varnishing of wooden doors is carried out until a smooth surface is formed.

Attention! If a drop of varnish gets on the surface and has time to dry, it is better to leave it as is. Otherwise, you can ruin the appearance.

Plastic louvered doors

Made from plastic, such doors are well suited for use in the bathroom or kitchen, as they are not afraid of moisture and are very easy to care for. In appearance, plastic roller doors are not very different from wooden doors and are in good demand among buyers due to their low price.

Both wooden and plastic shutter doors come in different varieties, but the most common design is made of narrow slats with a large gap between them. Thanks to such gaps, air and light pass through the grille well. Such designs are very light and durable, used in the kitchen or wardrobe.

Lattice doors with wide, thick slats that overlap each other are mostly installed on large cabinets. You can also try them on to decorate doors in the bathroom and toilet. Such doors look beautiful and original; light does not pass through them well, which must be taken into account.

These and many other louvered doors are presented. A large model range and various color schemes will allow you to choose interior doors from lattice to suit any modern room design and decorate it with their interesting and bright design.

The order is placed on the condition of prepayment and the delivery time for the standard size is 3-4 weeks, and non-standard - 6-8 weeks (minimum size (H*W) 250*210mm, and maximum (H*W) 2500*700mm)

Door Description:

In the production of louvered doors, coniferous timber of class “AA” is used, on which knots, resin pockets, blue stains and other defects are not allowed. The lamella is made of MDF

Blade thickness: 21mm

A unique feature of the production is the production of the side strip (stand) using the bar splicing method, which prevents longitudinal deformation of louvered doors with a height of 1700 mm to 2500 mm. It is these features that make further work with our product easier and ensure its long-term operation.

The side strip (riser) is made using the fusion method, preventing longitudinal deformation. The transverse strips are attached to the side strips using dowels. Width 41mm

The bottom crossbar has a standard width of 70 mm and serves as a guide for installation. The width of other cross bars is in the range of 60-80 mm and depends on the height of the door and the number of slats.

MDF lamella is 5 mm thick, 31 mm wide and is placed in the grooves of the side strip, stationary at a depth of 10 mm at each end. The slats are located at a distance of 28 mm and at an angle of 70 degrees - which allows air to circulate freely

Intermediate crossbar - for louvered doors with a height of 1500mm or more they have one crossbar, if the height is more than 2500mm then two.

An important role is played by the fact that, despite their high quality and environmental friendliness, louvered doors have a fairly low price.

Painting paneled doors

The basic method for painting a flat door is with long, smooth strokes or vertical strokes with a roller. But panel doors are often installed, which must be painted in the following order:

  1. First paint the ends of the door;
  2. Next, paint the inner rectangular panels;
  3. Then paint the vertical stripe between the panels;
  4. Let's move on to horizontal stripes;
  5. Move on to paint the edges of the door.

Installation

Installing a roller shutter door is simple. To do this, you need to perform a number of actions:

  1. Before purchasing, take measurements from the cabinet frame.
  2. Depending on the opening mechanism, make a mark and drill holes for installing hinges or guide profiles.
  3. Attach the mechanism to the cabinet body.
  4. Hang the leaves on the hinges or install the shutters with rollers on the guide rails.

Louvered doors for closets are considered an unusual option in order to diversify the appearance of a room. We must not forget about their features, strengths, and weaknesses. When choosing, you must carefully examine the material and moving mechanisms.

Each interior has its own doors

Ordinary flat doors look empty, especially in styles that involve a play of textures and patterns - in a romantic, vintage style, in neoclassical interiors. Louvered doors make the interior more textured and original, creating an atmosphere of comfort.

Such doors will suit any style where natural materials and wooden finishes are welcome, because most often they are made from natural pine needles. For example, this is a suitable solution for rustic and Provence styles, for a maritime style or country charm.

But even in a simple interior, blind doors are useful; they will make it more alive. In a minimalist setting, they will help create a light geometric decor. And louvered doors made of metal will add brutality to the interior in the loft style.

Main advantages

Easy installation. It is very easy to install it yourself. You only need to have with you special fittings and a set of accessories included in the sales kit for the louvered door. It will also be easy to dismantle the structure if necessary.

Low cost

Unlike a regular door, it uses much less material and therefore the price of such a product is very different from other types of door structures. In general, the cost of a louvered door depends on a number of factors. The material used in manufacturing plays a big role. Wooden doors will cost more than plastic ones. In any case, louvered doors are cheaper than regular doors.

Universal use

Louvered doors can be accordion-style, hinged, or sliding. They are an excellent solution for use in small spaces. In addition, they have a beautiful appearance and fit perfectly into any interior style.

Good functionality

Thanks to the presence of gratings, they have good performance and safety during use.

What are the features of slatted doors for mezzanines in Leroy Merlin

The lattice door design is perfect for equipping home shelves and mezzanines with it. Often it is the permeability factor that is decisive, because in such places things or products are often stored that do not accept an airtight space. For example, a dressing room or a shelf for dishes in the kitchen, where permeability for moisture evaporation through open slats is desired.

Advantages and disadvantages of slatted doors for mezzanines:

  • Save space;
  • Installation does not require much effort or knowledge, and the weight of the structures often allows the use of cheap materials and hinges;
  • If handled properly, they have a long service life;
  • Quite a difficult DIY repair in case of breakdown;
  • In the long term, maintenance is difficult, because to clean the slatted holes you will have to resort to special devices for collecting dust or dodge with a cloth.

It is also very difficult to carry out any work with this structure, because even the slightest intervention may require its complete disassembly. Therefore, especially painted models can cost quite a lot of money. In the Leroy Merlin service catalog you can find a variety of door models. This may also include a stacked structure from Ikea or Obi, which includes separate doors, a riser, and fasteners.

Application area

Since the holes between the individual elements do not allow sound to be retained, such canvases are not suitable for installation at the entrance to an apartment, studio, salon, catering establishment, or office.

The main places where such doors are installed:

  1. Technical cabinets. They are installed as a frame in which plumbing pipes, wires, panels, and water supply control systems in the cottage are hidden. Can be mounted in niches.
  2. In kitchen sets.
  3. In the bedroom closets.

In addition to furniture manufacturing, doors with roller shutters are installed in technical rooms. Sliding compartments installed between the kitchen and living room look beautiful.

Opening with varnish

It is better to paint wooden doors, trims, trims and other elements with varnish. The varnished material will be reliably protected from damage and other factors. The varnish can be polished when you need to create the desired pattern or make the canvas look antique. You can use varnish to open up oak and this idea will best highlight the wood.

In order to understand the choice of painting and methods, it is better to look at photos from catalogs of design magazines and choose the right idea. It is recommended to buy paints and varnishes in accordance with GOST. Painting rules are presented in the video:

Element sizes

You can see the main dimensions of the elements from which the blind door is made in the figure:

To make the support frame, a wooden beam is taken. The most common option is with dimensions of 2.5 cm x 4 cm, although other options can be considered. The upper and lower parts of the frame can be made from timber of slightly smaller dimensions or the same. The entire tree must be thoroughly dried and treated with special compounds that prevent rotting and the appearance of fungi.

The slats are made from wooden planks with dimensions of 3.8 cm x 0.5 cm. Such plates must be made in strict accordance with the dimensions. To do this, you need to know the technology and use professional-grade carpentry tools.

Correct painting of louvered doors with your own hands

It is quite possible to paint decorative louvered doors yourself. To do this, it is best to disassemble the structure, but with the proper desire and patience, you can get by using conventional methods. The most important thing to consider when painting is the spatter that occurs when lintels and slats are painted.

How to paint louvered doors yourself:

  1. Painting begins by covering the entire surface near the door with paper or other impermeable material.
  2. It is advisable to use a flat paint brush.
  3. It is necessary to apply a layer of latex coating to the slats, while being careful not to clog the holes. First of all, it is best to cover the canvas, and then the remaining elements.
  4. It is necessary to wait until the entire layer of external primer has dried.
  5. After drying, you need to apply the paint in one, or better yet, two layers, moving the brush in one direction.

When painting furniture, you can also use a regular roller, but this method is not suitable for all structures. Often the gaps between the slats are large enough that the roller will not cope with this task properly.

Louvre doors or decorative doors can be made from a wide variety of wood species: pine, larch and others. Plastic or metal models are also common. The wooden structure is perfect for damp rooms, and the white plastic door looks great in a home cabinet or shelves. This is a great way to diversify your interior.

Some tips for choosing

What to look for when choosing?

  • Thin slats will bring a special aesthetic look to the room, but it will be most practical to use slats whose width is 4.5-7 cm.
  • If there are frequent changes in humidity and temperature in the room, then to prevent deformation, it is better to cover them with varnish or paint from the very beginning.
  • Please note that the strips made from glued lath are the least deformable.
  • When choosing, check the operation of the fittings - it is important that with its help the doors move smoothly and there are no jerks.
  • If you choose louvered doors for a bathroom, it is better to choose a product made of plastic to avoid rapid deformation from the effects of moisture on the structure.
  • To assemble a high-quality structure, no glue is used, so its traces should not remain on the surface.

After purchasing slatted doors, you can change their appearance in several ways:

  1. The simplest way is to paint the canvas with high-quality enamel. You can coat the dried surface with varnish on top.
  2. Inlay – decoration with various materials.
  3. Wood oil will protect the wood from the destructive effects of moisture and the formation of fungus, which is necessary when installing a structure in a bathroom or toilet.

If you have stain at home, you can cover the canvas with it.

Artificial creation of door fiber

Not all people have wooden doors at home, so a design move is used, namely the artificial creation of door fiber on almost any surface:

  1. Fiberboard.
  2. Plywood.
  3. Chipboard.
  4. Metal.
  5. MDF.
  6. PVC.
  7. Plastic.
  8. Eco-veneer
  9. Other.

Painting MDF doors
Painting MDF doors with your own hands can be done according to the standard principle, locally or partially, or you can use the method of creating wood fibers. The process will be like this:

  1. Gray, white and other light colors are applied to the surface of the door.
  2. When the surface is dry, apply liquid soap to the doors.
  3. Next, dark paint is applied and the soap is washed off.

This combination will allow you to achieve the look of real wood on any surface. There is another unusual option for painting wood:

  1. A comb-brush is used, which is carried along the veneer fibers.
  2. This gives the material a wood structure.
  3. Then matte material or gloss paint is applied in several layers.
  4. The surface is polished.

Advice! Everyone must choose the method themselves, for their own apartment or room. If the material is external, then a composition for external use is used. Entrance doors are even painted from a bottle containing hammer paint. Patination can be used, but the patina itself is difficult to apply and requires a special tool. Powder coating of doors is often used, but the powder composition requires equipment, although the method is good and modern.

The powder adheres perfectly to the surface and makes the home warm. At the end, the canvas is installed, the slope is lined, you can use plastic materials for finishing, glue wallpaper if the width allows you to hang pictures with a marine or other theme. It is better to paint while the renovation is underway, so that the passage structure is in one color or in one design; the front door looks good in gilding, a color called wenga.

cherry stew

Renovations in our apartment will begin in January. By this time, I need to not only complete all the preparatory work, but also draw up an estimate. And visualize your desires, which is what I will actually do in this and subsequent posts.

First, a few words about why and how I came up with the idea of creating interiors myself.

I omit spatial discussions about the need for a family nest, about myself as a mother hen, and about the general deplorable state of our housing. Those who saw it saw it; those who didn’t see it, I will also post photos in detail, so that, so to speak, you can evaluate the condition “before” and “after” with your own eyes.

So that’s why I decided that I had to get down to business myself. Last winter, when I was paid almost no money, but I still wanted to live well, I got into the habit of going with Dmitry Lvovich to construction stores. He went about his work, and I, with my characteristic optimism, sublimely wandered among the toilets, sofas and laminate flooring. Wandered and... I didn't dream. That is, I was going to dream, but I was not at all terrified! I was horrified by the abundance of cheap kitsch, these sofas stitched with gold thread with tassels and plush, gilding in every detail, the huge size of this furniture, as well as the general trend “to look like it came from a palace”! What about the tiles? Have you ever found plain white tiles? Matte or glossy – doesn’t it matter? But just without gold inclusions, borders and other bullshit? And not for crazy money?
