There is a kitchen in every home. Food is prepared and consumed in it. Therefore, the arrangement of this room must meet the general requirements. Considering them in the kitchen, be sure to install a door.
They choose it taking into account the materials, design and, of course, based on the layout of the space.
It should be noted that in the room where food is prepared, humidity and temperature indicators are constantly changing.
Therefore, interior doors for the kitchen are chosen according to certain criteria.
They must be durable and have a coating that can withstand different loads and cannot allow odors and noises to leak into other rooms.
Such different doors...
Currently, there are a huge number of companies producing interior doors. Therefore, the choice should always be made according to several criteria at once. The very first criterion that comes to mind is the type of door opening.
There are a surprising number of these types, but here are the main ones:
- swing;
- sliding;
- tilt and turn
- folding;
However, it's a difficult choice. In fact, it depends on many factors: the room itself, the location of the door, design, or the banal desire of the owner of the house.
Installation requirements
Installing a sliding door to separate the kitchen and living room has a number of limitations:
- heat sources must be located at least one meter from the canvas;
- The structure should not be exposed to water (splashes when washing dishes, etc.);
- There should be no additional vertical load (a mezzanine cannot be installed above the sliding door for storing household items, etc.).
Otherwise, the installation requirements remain the same as for other rooms. An installation example is discussed in detail in the video below.

Folding doors
And finally, folding doors. They look interesting and are good for a room like a kitchen. In addition, it has an important advantage - it saves space. A good option for small apartments.

In turn, these doors can also be divided by the number of leaves: single-leaf and double-leaf, the names of which speak for themselves.
One-and-a-half designs stand apart, in the case of which the door is a door leaf with an additional part fixed motionless. The second, small part can be opened if necessary.
Opening method
The types of interior doors are quite varied, but not all of them are suitable for the kitchen. Let's look at the pros and cons of each of the five main options:
- Swing . This is the simplest, most accessible and economical option. The dimensions of the canvas and the number of doors depend on the dimensions of the kitchen and its design. This type of door structure ensures that all the most important functional requirements are met, including tightness and sound insulation. The only drawback that appears in small rooms is the formation of a non-functional part of the space on the side of the door opening.
- Sliding structures are convenient from the point of view of saving space, because for them it is enough to provide a little free space along the wall. But their tightness is inferior to swing doors.
- Folding (book or accordion) . This type of entrance group solves the problem with space, but loses in other respects, since they cannot properly isolate from noise and odors.
- Rotary designs save space, can open in both directions, close tightly, thereby providing protection from odor and noise, and operate absolutely silently. But due to their high cost, they are in less demand.
- Swing doors are rarely installed in residential premises, but are successfully used in cafes and restaurants. If we consider them in relation to a home kitchen, then they are suitable only for large areas, since, opening in both directions, they require free space on both sides around them. The second disadvantage is that they cannot provide sufficient tightness and only work if there is a good hood.
Tree
The most natural and natural option. The disadvantage is the rather high price of such products. Some manufacturers sometimes use wood only as a frame. However, doors made from natural wood are really high quality and beautiful, so they are always worth the money spent. Unfortunately, wooden products do not tolerate moisture and temperature changes very well.
Where to buy and what prices
Doors of standard sizes in a classic design can be purchased at construction bases. But if you need an original design, then there are companies that produce such products for individual orders.
A large selection of doors is also available in online stores. The catalogs present a variety of models, provide photographs and indicate prices. Thanks to the wide range, it is easy to choose a product for any family budget. Thus, the minimum cost of doors made of MDF is 1,500 rubles, those made of laminated plastic - 1,200. Wooden ones cost 1.5-2 times more.
Glass
Glass, as a material for the manufacture of interior doors, is used as a fashionable design solution, if we are talking about all-glass products. More often, of course, simple glass inserts are used.
It is worth noting that glass doors to the kitchen are unlikely to be a good option - this room is still in frequent use, and the glass can get dirty, dirty, or, worse, break.
In addition, glass is transparent, which is not always good, and requires careful handling.
Necessity or decorative element?
The kitchen is a specific room, which, of course, requires the installation of interior fabric. And it doesn’t matter what size your apartment or house is: there should be canvas, and here’s why:
- Prevents the spread of odors from the kitchen, which cannot be avoided when cooking and washing the stove or sink with aggressive cleaning agents. No hood or open window can cope with the aroma of a cooking dish better than a closed door to the kitchen;
- The door isolates noise during cooking or cleaning and is especially necessary when there is a small child in the house who sleeps while the mother is working in the kitchen. The canvas insulates not only household noise, but also the sounds of the TV, conversations of gathered guests, parents, and barking dogs;
- Separates the room from children or creates safety for small family members who should not temporarily enter it after washing the floor or treating it with a cleaning product;
- Creates comfort. The door has long ceased to be just a partition. Today it decorates the interior, transforms it, and sets the style. And without a canvas in the kitchen, the interior looks unfinished.
Middle category
Any model from this class is the best option in terms of price/quality ratio. The quality of this range is significantly higher than that of the lower price category, and the cost is significantly lower than that of the upper one. Prices range from 9 to 20 thousand.
At the same time, for that kind of money it is not difficult to find doors made of natural solid wood with a wide variety of finishes and interesting designs.

- Color. Yellow, blue, red, green—in production they can make glass parts of any shade! To achieve uniform coloring, the desired pigment is added to the liquid mass. At home, ordinary color film will help out.
- Texture. To ensure that only the silhouettes of the objects inside are visible, when ordering furniture, specify matte rather than glossy glass elements. There are several matting methods: sandblasting, chemical, temperature, paint and varnish. Only part can be matte - the shape or pattern is applied with a special gun.
- Toning. Another way to keep the airiness but hide the insides of the drawers. It’s easy to apply grey, black or mirror film yourself.
- Relief. Waves, lattice, crisette, flux, delta, screen and other textures also blur the contents of the cabinets, but retain the lightness of the structure.
- Stained glass. Previously, the image was assembled from pieces, like a puzzle. Today, instead of an expensive original, you can order a high-quality imitation - a drawing with stained glass paints.
- Photo printing. You can print any motif on the surface! The service is not cheap, but as a result you will get a unique design that does not fade in the sun and is not afraid of water. The main thing when choosing a design is to be aware that it will last for a long time: otherwise, if in a couple of years the motifs go out of fashion, the facades will have to be changed.
Product selection
After a superficial review, you can proceed directly to choosing an interior door for the kitchen. When choosing, you should pay attention to the manufacturer. As a rule, the highest quality doors are made in countries such as Israel, Belarus, Finland, and Russia.
After studying the company's products, you should pay attention to the features of the room - its size, humidity, presence or absence of a hood. Depending on these factors, it is necessary to consider the material, type of opening and cost. If you order online, you should definitely consider the photos of kitchen doors available in any online store.
Choosing doors for a room such as a kitchen is a very important decision. In any culture of the world, the kitchen occupies a special place in the home, serving as a gathering place and discussion of important issues. The place of the door in the design of this room should look organic and beautiful.
Types of structures
Doors are classified according to the type of opening. Let's take a closer look at each of them.
Swing
It is attached to the box with hinges and opens with their help. Opening, the canvas swings open and reveals the doorway - the entrance to the kitchen. The design can be single-leaf (with one leaf) or double-leaf, double (with two leaves).

Folding
Or a book door. Usually it is thin and gathers into an accordion when opened. It is appropriate to choose a “book” for an opening with a width of 70 cm or more, otherwise there will be little space left for free passage. After all, it gathers into the opening and occupies its width.
Retractable
A door that retracts into a niche of an opening or moves along a wall. It saves apartment space and does not require additional space for free opening, like its swing counterpart.
The advantage of the sliding model is that it does not take up space and creates aesthetics in the interior. The downside is the high price and difficulty in installation , especially if the canvas is planned to be “hidden” in a niche.
Such a niche will have to be created at the rough finishing stage.
Radius sliding
It resembles a compartment door, only it “runs” not on straight rails, but on radial ones. Radius curtains are usually installed in designer apartments even after planning, since these curtains require additional space for opening and take up much more space than classic sliding ones.

We select a convenient option
Kitchen furniture is varied, and therefore it is important to choose the right type of facades. When designing lower cabinets, take into account:
When designing lower cabinets, take into account:
- placement of kitchen appliances, based on this we select the required number of shelves;
- selected style (some styles require concealment of kitchen appliances behind facades);
- the number of kitchen utensils and the presence of large items (pots with a volume of more than 6-7 liters, large cauldrons, frying pans, baking containers, and so on);
- variety of kitchen utensils;
- quantity of stored products;
- required size of the working area.
When drawers are more convenient.
Drawers allow you to optimally conveniently place kitchen utensils and products; they provide comfort when working in the kitchen. Modern kitchen furniture is equipped with both horizontal and vertical drawers. They may have additional inserts and baskets.
Drawers are increasingly popular
Horizontal drawers are convenient for storing small kitchen equipment, which is laid out in special organizers, for example, built into a corner. Horizontal drawers are also convenient for storing a large amount of heavy equipment and food supplies, especially since modern metaboxes allow you to store up to 50 kg of food or equipment. Vertical drawers are convenient for storing small containers with spices and small kitchen equipment
The main drawers are located in the bottom row of cabinets. For the top row, small drawers for storing various small items are better. Often, drawers are installed in the remaining free space under household appliances, for example, under an oven, this allows rational use of the entire kitchen space.

Hinged doors on furniture
For cabinets of both the lower and upper rows, classic hinged doors are convenient. They set the desired style of the kitchen, look good in any layout, and can be made from any material, including glass
With such doors, there is a complete overview of the contents of the cabinet if you choose good hinges for the facades. They can be supplemented with any fittings, which can be important for creating an interior
Lifting mechanisms
For kitchen furniture, convenience and functionality have always been the main requirements. Vertically opening upper cabinets are much more convenient than hinged ones, if only because they do not interfere with movement around the kitchen when the cabinets are open, and they are less traumatic.
The lifting mechanism must be supplemented with a closer
Furniture closers are a convenient invention for kitchen cabinets, and they come in a variety of types. They differ:
- by the way the façade opens: up, down, in a universal way;
- according to the mechanism: automatic or step-by-step;
- according to the trajectory it describes when opening: parallel, at an angle;
- by type of facade: folding or solid.
Drawers
The dimensions of drawers are usually limited by the size of the cabinet in which they are installed. At the same time, the boxes should not be too large in height, because in this case they will be too large in volume, which is inconvenient for storing both food and utensils. The optimal height of the drawers will be from 20 to 60 cm. The width of the horizontal drawers depends on the width of the cabinet; if it is a free-standing cabinet with drawers, then its optimal width will be up to 100 cm. Horizontal drawers can be from 20 to 50 cm wide.
How to decide what exactly will be more convenient, watch our video:
Creating Functional Corners
The shape of the letter L has become traditional for kitchens with medium or very small dimensions. The corner roomy section is placed right in the middle. But in the standard variation it is not always the most convenient. That's why modern manufacturers offer corner shapes.
Often 2-3 corner shelves per 90-120 centimeters of width are enough. They accommodate bulk packaged products or large utensils.
Sidewalls and high back walls contribute to stability. It is recommended to use special dividers to make storage more convenient.
“Magic corners” are systems that increase the efficiency of space use. You can even make sure that only certain sections function. A suitable option for storing small items; large items do not fit inside.
Large dishes and small household appliances fit inside one section, the smallest one. Let’s assume the option of installing mobile sections that slide out along the carousel.
The main fastening element is a spacer pipe. But axleless models are considered much more convenient.
Beautiful options for models in the interior of a living room
Of course, when it comes to installing doors in a large private house, problems rarely arise with the concepts of beauty and functionality. As for small spaces, options for installing sliding interior structures in this case seem to be the most popular among ordinary buyers.
If the “Khrushchev” has a recess in the form of a niche, the best option would be doors that enter the niche on runners designed in accordance with the dimensions of the recess. When installing doors made of lightweight polycarbonate into a closet, a functional partition will be created with an insulating role assigned to it.
Different models of interior partitions, many of which can be made independently, will help to optimally organize the space of a children's room, in which both a boy and a girl can live at the same time. With the help of such a partition you will get two small but full bedrooms.
If a person lives in a one-room apartment, in which it is not possible to build a full-fledged dressing room with a place for changing clothes, a partition can also play a “saving” role, allocating a certain part of the room for this.
When living in a studio apartment combined with a kitchen, a high screen will become a universal divider that will not only prevent the spread of odors throughout the room, but will also hide dirty dishes and other unsightly things in the form of garbage and food waste from guests.
Thus, sliding interior doors can be installed not only in large houses and offices. Since now there is an excellent opportunity to manufacture and install them individually, such a convenient design can be fully adapted to the needs of economy class.
How to install sliding doors yourself, see the video below.
Peculiarities
The main distinguishing feature of folding interior doors is their compactness. They are relevant in different spaces, and especially in small-sized rooms. In this case, choosing compact doors will be an excellent solution for decorating interior openings. If a classic door needs about 1 meter of space to open, a folding version needs 8 - 10 cm (this is the minimum width of the lamella).
Folding interior doors have advantages:
- Large selection of raw materials used in production. Thanks to this, you can choose a door that perfectly matches the style, which will emphasize the individuality of the apartment’s interior.
- Easy to install. This design can be used for openings of non-standard sizes.
- Safety. They do not slam shut due to drafts, and the absence of a threshold on the floor eliminates the possibility of falling.
- Variety of textures. They differ in surface texture, which can be glossy, matte, smooth, embossed.
