How to house the dolls??? Storage options for our beauties

Every owner of at least one doll has a dream that her beloved Barbie would have a real home with furniture, household appliances and, of course, a wardrobe. Now Barbie dolls are sold with large sets of dresses and all kinds of outfits. Of course, they need to be put somewhere.

You can buy a ready-made wardrobe for dolls at a children's store, but it will be much cheaper to make it yourself . It can be made from the following materials:

  • Tree.
  • Plywood.
  • Cardboard.
  • Styrofoam.
  • Box.

To decorate the finished cabinet you will need all kinds of rhinestones, stickers, wrapping paper, wallpaper, fabric and paints.

Storage conditions

Products should not be placed where there is direct sunlight. Fabric paints, as well as color pigments on the faces and other parts of the toy’s body, fade under the influence of bright light.

The realistic latex Reborn dolls that are popular today can also be significantly damaged by the bright rays of the sun.

Heaters, bright lamps, lit candles and other heat sources also have no place near dolls. They can become deformed and even melt. Especially if the toy itself or its clothing is made of synthetic materials (latex, nylon, etc.). In addition, this may lead to a fire.

Dolls should also not be left near open windows. Car exhaust, contained in the air in addition to dust and sand, will be very difficult to remove from clothing and hair products without damaging their appearance.

Interior dolls should not be placed on heating radiators as a decorative element. They can be significantly deformed due to temperature, after which it will no longer be possible to return them to their original appearance.

The storage of a collection of dolls, consisting of expensive designer products, should take place under conditions of a certain air humidity (not higher than 45 - 50%) and with air conditioning. Sudden temperature changes can cause significant damage to fabric fibers. In this case, ceramic parts may crack, and plastic parts may become deformed.

Constant room temperature is best for storing such products.

How to house the dolls??? Storage options for our beauties

How to successfully place your dolls at home ? How to choose a storage location? What is better - open shelves or display cabinets? etc. If these questions bother you, or you have already found a solution for yourself and are ready to share, I invite you to the topic. First, you need to choose a place in the house (apartment), which ideally should meet the following requirements: Do not allow: - smoking indoors; — exposure of dolls to fluorescent and directional sunlight, dust, dirt; — dolls must be kept out of the reach of children, pets, and insects.

Whether to comply with these requirements or not is a personal matter for everyone. But, almost each of us here acts as either a buyer or a seller. And, as a buyer, it would be calmer and more pleasant for me to buy a doll from a seller who stores dolls carefully. There may be animals in the house, and, of course, children :) It all depends on upbringing.

We determine the room in the house in which the collection will be located (it is better not to consider the kitchen, because during cooking, grease is released into the air, which then settles on the hair and clothes of the dolls. These contaminants will be difficult to remove). After we have decided on the room, we choose the space inside the room. And finally (the stage where I’m “stuck” now) we need to come up with furniture for the dolls. So, a display cabinet or open shelves (chest of drawers, nightstand)? Which is preferable? In my opinion, a showcase is an ideal option if: - you have small children or animals; — there are “not very well-mannered people” visiting, for example, friends with children, who are allowed everything; - you have valuable, rare dolls; — you have dolls, which are strongly recommended to be stored in a display case; — you do not have the opportunity to often care for dolls (clean them from dust). On the other hand, and this is a very important point for me, I don’t want the apartment to feel like a museum, and if there are a lot of dolls and you want to place them all behind glass, I’m afraid it will turn out to be a museum... Plus open shelves or storing dolls on chests of drawers, nightstands : — “availability and proximity” of the doll; — there is no feeling of a museum; - a more budget option for storage. Maybe I forgot something, please help with advice, I will be grateful. What to do, how to be? “I went to the Internet” in search of possible solutions, to see how others coped with the task of resettling the dolls and what interesting things I could learn there for myself. I apologize in advance to the authors of the photo for using the photo without permission. If anyone objects to any photos, I will remove them.

*******************What can you find on the Internet?******************************** *********************** Let's start with the ideal solution - when there is a free room for dolls

. A dream, not a photo!

Or so

Is there no way for you to place the dolls like this? Unfortunately, I don’t have one... So I’ll have to consider other options. When the dolls are small and there is a free wall or several walls:

Ah, no. The male collector in the last photo also has his own room for the dolls, and maybe several...

Showcase.

From the Internet:

Glass is the safest material for storing dolls; if your furniture for dolls is made of wood, then do not allow the wood to come into contact with the dolls or their clothes.
Wooden shelves should be lined with acid-free fabrics: coarse undyed muslin or cotton or rice paper. The best option for storing dolls is a lockable glass display case. Such display cases are sold in large shopping malls like Ikea. The advantages are obvious: the dolls are protected from dust, dirt and are out of reach of children and pets, and are also protected from the effects of harmful acids that may be contained in wood.

Here's something like this: Photos from museums. Home photos (from the Internet): Very beautiful. Stylish and sophisticated.

If you collect vintage dolls, then antique furniture or artificially aged furniture (for example, using decoupage techniques) can be a worthy frame for your collection.
You can use individual glass display cases. These “boxes” are made to order.

Cabinets. Shelves with glass doors.

Or maybe a combination of open shelving and glazed shelves:

Owners often place the dolls next to books.

I really like the options when the dolls do not just stand on shelves, but for each of them (or for a group of dolls) a place is invented and equipped, most often it is a mini-room (several rooms).

Or the shelves are made in the shape of a house. What joy for a child! What a joy for the hostess)

And what a joy for the dolls)

Great option when you have a lot of space

I really like the photo below, it shows a gorgeous collection of clowns, the shelves are made to order, taking into account the height of individual dolls. Interesting lighting. If you have dolls of different sizes in your collection, you can take this idea into account. Dressers and nightstands.

Quite often, dolls, especially large ones, are placed on floor shelves for flowers

. I couldn't find any photos of the dolls. Let's just admire the shelves and imagine dolls on them)

Of course, it is not necessary to store the entire collection in one place; it can be organically distributed around the house in small thematic groups.

A simple option is to place the dolls in existing furniture

. Furniture walls, sideboards, libraries with transparent doors can be a good place to place dolls. At the same time, it is not at all necessary to remove things already in them. On the contrary, with the help of books, figurines, vases, dishes, etc., you can create an original interior for dolls.

A good and inexpensive option is open hanging shelves

. They are suitable even for a small apartment. However, if you choose them, keep in mind that you will have to devote quite a lot of time to cleaning the dolls (cleaning the dolls from dust, washing clothes, etc.). Collections of modern dolls look good on such shelves.

Shelves are balconies. A nice solution if the dolls are small.

I really liked this storage option) And even if it’s not dolls, it’s still interesting.

Interesting shelf layout options from the Internet.

And just cute shelves

Shelf? No! Piece of art! **************************************** ************************************************* Creative ways to store play dolls and soft toys :)) )

When there is absolutely no room :)

**************************************************************************************************** A few secrets for creating a beautiful showcase

(and not only for display cases, but also suitable for open shelves).
(taken from the Internet): 1. Don't arrange your dolls crowded.
First of all, it's not very pretty, and it becomes difficult to see each doll. And secondly, in some cases, when dolls come into contact, they can damage (or stain) each other or clothes. There should be free space around each doll. 2. Small scenes. Try to come up with something more interesting than just placing the dolls in a row. Both your guests and you will be much more interested in looking at dolls that are “busy with their business”: drinking tea, trying on clothes, chatting with friends, reading books, feeding children, playing with pets, knitting, playing the piano, etc. Of course, to organize such scenes you will need a little more space, time and imagination and, of course, accessories (which, however, can be selected from your own collection or made with your own hands). This is a challenge for people who are truly passionate: through such scenes you can reveal the character of your favorite dolls.

3. The background against which your dolls are displayed will also help add variety to the display. Do you have a French fashionista? In this case, you can place a photo of the Eiffel Tower in the background. Moreover, it is not at all necessary to order doll backgrounds. It’s enough just to find a photo on the Internet (only it must be of good resolution and quality) and print it in any photo studio.

4. Light. The most acceptable option is spot light. It will help you place accents in your window display. There are many options for such lamps; you can even buy a “tablet” lamp, which is attached with double-sided tape. But remember that directional light is still harmful to dolls, so if you decide to use it, turn on the lighting only for a while - for example, when showing off your collection to guests.

**************************************** ************************************************* So, I decide for myself , that I would still buy one display case for myself and hide in it those dolls “for whose health I especially fear.”

What do the stores offer??? You can find real works of art as display cabinets. And even if there are dishes there, who is stopping you from placing the dolls?

A dream for a palace) Or for such a room)))

Interesting too

And here is this option. Well, there are simpler options.

… ************************************************* ***************************************** Oh, so many options, my head is spinning! My eyes are wide open, the prices for furniture are scary... Now some of my dolls live on the chest of drawers, some are put away in the closet, stored in boxes. I really want to get everyone and place them. But my dolls are different, some are quite large, they definitely won’t fit in a narrow display cabinet, and the ones I like are at wow prices... I’m afraid I’ll end up like this woman in the photo below)) ) My husband and I will make homemade shelves, and this will be the end of the “great doll migration”)

Please share how your dolls live? I will be especially grateful for the photo. Thank you for your attention!

Storage areas for dolls

Even before purchasing collectibles, you need to think about where and how to store dolls, and find a suitable place for them.

Basements and attics heated by the summer heat, as well as a kitchen, garage, and country house are considered not the best places to store a collection. Storing dolls in a room with damp walls and fungus can quickly negatively affect the condition of the toys.

The place on the glass display case is the most suitable for storing the collection. There the dolls will be protected from dust and pets.

Another storage option is on a special stand located on the bedside table. You can also sit the dolls between sofa cushions.

Designer and porcelain items should be kept in special cases, made by hand or to order. They will protect toys from exposure to dust and sunlight.

It is not advisable to leave expensive collectible dolls in their “original” boxes. Cardboard and glue may contain formaldehyde, which has a negative effect on handmade products. It would be better to order “breathable” boxes made from environmentally friendly materials for them.

If the doll is sent for storage in a safe, it is wrapped in special acid-free anti-corrosion wipes. In this case, it is better to pack the product and clothing separately. If the dress is decorated with metal elements, they should be removed before storing so that no marks remain on the clothing.

Juice box doll cabinet

To turn an ordinary juice box into a doll wardrobe, you will need:

  • Juice box.
  • Scissors.
  • PVA glue.
  • Wire.
  • Wallpaper or decorative paper.
  • Decorations.

Manufacturing process:

  1. The box needs to be cut in half in the middle and along the edges of the box to create door leaves.
  2. At the top of the box you need to make holes for the rod. You can use wire or wooden skewers as the bar itself.
  3. At the bottom you should attach several matchboxes that will serve as shelves for shoes.
  4. The finished base needs to be wallpapered or painted.
  5. After the entire structure has completely dried, decorate the cabinet with fabric, stickers and decorations.

To make the cabinet soft, you can cover it with yellow household napkins.

Doll clothes and accessories

It is convenient to store doll clothes and accessories in photo albums or special folders for storing collections of coins, badges, etc., which have compartments of different sizes. It is better to place them in a vertical position so that nothing can fall out.

And for doll shoes, so they don’t get lost, organizers for medicines or threads, which are sold in a hardware store, are perfect.

When doll things are in order, you can easily find the necessary accessory or dress, and significantly extend their service life.

Storing dolls in a children's room should follow the same principle. This will organize the child, teach him order and respect for toys.

Cardboard wardrobe

A very simple way to create a wardrobe for doll clothes. Every home has old boxes for a TV or other household appliances.

To make a cabinet you will need:

  • Corrugated or thick cardboard.
  • Wooden skewers.
  • PVA glue.
  • Scissors.
  • Stationery knife.
  • Wire.
  • Awl.
  • Decor for decoration.

Execution process:

  1. It is necessary to fold or glue a rectangular box from cardboard - the base of the cabinet.
  2. Then make partitions from cardboard. You need to make holes at the top for the rod on which the hangers will hang.
  3. Make a barbell from a wooden skewer. Secure it in the holes with glue.
  4. To create hangers, you can use paper clips or wire. To do this, you need to bend the paperclip and bend one edge with a hook, and make a triangle out of the other - the base of the hanger.
  5. The cabinet needs to be painted or covered with decorative paper or wallpaper.
