Structures made from profile pipes are characterized by increased wear resistance and strength. Using a professional pipe you can make a fence, a greenhouse, a swing, etc. This way you can save money and ensure your comfort.

Profile pipe and its features

Profile pipes of various sections are a durable, accessible and inexpensive material. In furniture production, it is ideal as a reliable frame: frames, stops, and table legs are made from pipes.

Main advantages of pipes:

  • structural strength;
  • reliability;
  • ease of processing;
  • variability of sizes;
  • availability;
  • low price;
  • good compatibility with different materials

Pipes have a square or rectangular cross-section, the most popular thickness is from 10 to 40 mm. The larger the furniture and the greater the weight of the tabletop, the thicker the pipes used for the frame should be. As additional reinforcement, use the lower or upper trim. Such products are very stable.

The downside of the design is its impressive weight, which can be adjusted by choosing lighter materials for table tops and seats.

Furniture made from profile pipes can look deliberately brutal or elegant and weightless. If handled correctly, the products will be stable and safe, they will last for many years and will not require repairs. Finished furniture is easy to modify: just change the tabletop or repaint the profile pipe.

Preliminary work

Before starting construction, we determine the location of the future gazebo, then select a suitable drawing, and also stock up on tools and building materials.
To complete the work you will need:

  • profile pipes of square (for supports) and rectangular (for sheathing and fencing) sections;
  • roofing polycarbonate or other finishing materials;
  • concrete and cement or ready-made supports for a columnar foundation;
  • accessories;
  • paint or primer with anti-corrosion properties.

When choosing a suitable location, generally accepted rules are followed. It should be a secluded, quiet place, preferably with beautiful views. The area must be clearly visible so that the gazebo itself serves as a decoration. If you use it as a kitchen, you should not locate the building far from the house.

Measurements and design

The dimensions of the building are determined taking into account the area of the allocated plot, and then the project is selected. Since pipes can be bent if necessary, there are many suitable options, simple and complex. The scheme provides:

  • exact dimensions;
  • consumption of building materials;
  • foundation type;
  • roof shape.

If necessary, you can opt for a collapsible structure. It takes 2–3 hours to assemble; when frost sets in, the structure is assembled and hidden in the house. The floor and foundation are made of cheap materials, fastenings are carried out with bolts.

A stationary building will require a more reliable foundation, and its construction will take more time. Inside, you can build a stove or barbecue out of bricks, install electricity, and create a cozy place for home gatherings. In this case, it is better to make the gazebo hexagonal or octagonal; the chimney is organized through the central part of the pitched roof.

Furniture style: how to make a choice

It is believed that a profile pipe is too rough and simple a material, suitable only for unassuming street benches or garden tables. However, with the right choice of material and proper skill, you can assemble completely unique things from pipes that are not inferior to expensive forged products. Even simple rectangular tables and reinforced stools can look stylish if they fit correctly into the interior.

From a profile pipe you can make:

  • tables (dining tables, desks, coffee tables);
  • bedside tables;
  • consoles;
  • garden furniture;
  • stools and benches;
  • bookcases;
  • mattress frames;
  • beds;
  • serving tables;
  • desks;
  • bar counters;
  • workbenches.

Furniture in high-tech, scandi, loft, and modern minimalism styles is most often made from profile pipes. In order for the product to look impressive and not resemble a budget homemade product, it is important to wisely select additions that soften the utilitarian appearance of profile pipes.

Deliberately rough, massive frames go well with natural wood, varnished or stained, tempered glass, natural or artificial stone, and metal. Bent structures will fit perfectly into interiors designed in the spirit of art deco, modern, and vintage.

Expert opinion

Designer of stylish home furniture

Metal parts can be painted in light colors; artificial aging, silvering, and gilding techniques are used. Much depends on the skill of the manufacturer, technique and materials chosen for finishing.

Additional materials for the bench

If we talk about the full production of a bench, then you won’t be limited to just metal and wood. There is also a small list of materials and consumables that will be needed. They are listed in the following table.

Materials, photos:Description:

Primer paint for metal

The final coating of the metal may vary. Primer enamels are often used, which do not require surface preparation, apart from cleaning it. This paint is applied in several layers. You can even cover rusty areas with it, but we do not recommend doing this, since the service life of the protective layer will be reduced.

Grinder circle for cutting metal

For frame structures, the metal always has to be cut to the design dimensions.
For cutting, abrasive wheels are used, mounted on a grinder or similar tools. Wheels made of the same material are used for grinding metal and processing welds.

Wire brush

Before painting, the metal must be cleaned. The task is to remove all the rust and expose its shiny surface. On this basis, even primer paint will adhere much better.

Degreaser

Before painting, the metal is degreased. This will seriously increase the adhesion of the material and promote even application of paint layers. As a degreaser, you can use universal compounds, which are ordinary kerosene, or its light varieties, for example, white spirit.

Electrodes for welding

Electrodes are also consumables. Without them, the benches definitely cannot be assembled.

Set of metal drills

You will need to drill a little, but you should always have several drills of the required diameter in stock. Holes are made for bolted and screw connections. The wooden part of the bench is fastened in this manner.

Bolts and screws

Again, necessary to secure the wooden parts of the frame. Sometimes they are used to connect metal parts, although welding is the preferred method.

Wood processing materials

We have combined them into one line because different options may apply.
Let us note antiseptic impregnations, which significantly increase the service life of wood in the open air, impregnations for changing the color of boards (this includes oils, stains, glazes, waxes, etc.), protective compounds and paintwork materials that create a waterproof film on the surface. These properties may be combined in some materials. For example, oil from water qualitatively protects and transforms the color of wood, making it more saturated.

Sandpaper for random orbital sander

The surface of the wood must be carefully treated to make it smooth, safe and pleasant to the touch. To do this, it is polished with abrasives of different fractions.

This variety is accompanied by the following set of tools:

  1. Bulgarian.
  2. Carpenter's square.
  3. Electric drill.
  4. Sander.
  5. A hammer for knocking down scale after welding, and indeed this tool is always required.
  6. Clamps for preliminary fixation of parts.
  7. Brushes or a small roller for a more even application of paint.
  8. Welding machine.
  9. Tape measure, pencil, marker.
  10. To create curved parts, a pipe bending machine is required

small things can also come in handy, which you will find out for yourself when you start assembling your bench.

Related materials: the best combinations

For furniture, the frame of which will be a profile pipe, it is hardly worth choosing expensive wood. The ideal option for a countertop is regular plywood. It is quite light, durable, easy to process and suitable for various coatings. An equally good option is thin boards coated with plastic.

For coffee and dining tables with a bent openwork frame, thick tempered glass, transparent or tinted, is suitable. It is best to use a ready-made glass tabletop.

An inexpensive profile pipe is a reason to give a second life to old furniture. For example, a beautiful bed headboard and a welded pipe frame will make an elegant garden bench, a wardrobe door will replace a tabletop, and scrap boards will be useful for stool seats.

The size of the pipes is selected depending on the type of furniture. The general rule is that the greater the load, the heavier the pipe can be. For the home, it is better to use blanks with a thickness of 20-30 mm; for garden furniture, which moves less often and must be especially stable, a 40 mm pipe is suitable. All products are necessarily treated with an anti-corrosion coating, which is recommended to be renewed periodically.

Budget material for gazebos

A garden gazebo must meet all the properties of a quality product, characterized by:

  • increased service life;
  • high quality workmanship;
  • aesthetics of execution;
  • rich functionality;
  • variety of models.

Today you can choose alternative building materials that will be cheaper for various reasons. Thus, an outdoor garden gazebo can be made from elegant metal profiles, that is, aluminum tubes.

DIY home furniture

It’s better to start with the simplest designs possible: a variety of tables and stools. You shouldn’t invent models yourself: all interesting solutions can be found on the Internet or specialized magazines. It is enough to choose an interesting option of the desired size and calculate what materials will be needed for implementation.

Kitchen table

Kitchen tables must be stable, withstand daily loads, and have a simple but attractive appearance. The best option is a tabletop with a reinforced structure.

The main load falls on the frame and legs, so for their manufacture it is worth choosing a square profile pipe with an edge of at least 40 mm. Additional crossbars are not needed; this will allow you to place roll-out structures with drawers or shelves, pipes, and household appliances under the table.

The tabletop can be made from boards with a waterproof coating, durable plastic, artificial stone or MDF. Depending on the design decision, the profile is painted to match the tone of the tabletop or made in contrast.

Living room table

For a living room in a classic style, an elegant coffee table about 35 cm high can be made from a pipe with a 10 mm edge. The desired shape is given using a pipe bender; in the middle part, the legs are connected by a transverse beam. For additional openwork decor you will need round fittings. The design is quite light, so it is better to use plastic or plywood for the tabletop.

garden bench

For benches it is better to combine metal with wood. The seat is made of wide slats mounted on a welded frame made of pipes 30 - 40 mm thick. Garden furniture must be stable, so the lower base is made in the form of a closed rectangle. It is necessary to coat metal parts with an anti-corrosion compound.

Gazebo pavilion for a summer residence

This, of course, is not the easiest project, but a gazebo pavilion for a summer house is an ideal place for a summer dining room. You can always change the size and design of the pavilion to suit your needs and budget, but it is better to use the instructions and tips provided on the diagrams. A gable roof will improve the appearance of the structure, but it will require large investments and a lot of materials. If you want to build a simple pavilion for an enjoyable meal with family and friends, there are several options you can choose from. On the one hand, you can build a gazebo or a simpler structure, like this wooden pavilion. It is possible to do it yourself, but you must plan every step of construction from the very beginning. It is recommended to buy the best materials you can afford. They should be weather-resistant, such as pressure-treated wood, pine or cedar. Carefully take accurate measurements before adjusting sizes. Pre-drill holes in the pieces before inserting screws to prevent the wood from splitting. All stages of construction are shown in step-by-step diagrams, detailed instructions are on the website.

Questions and answers

I want to make a light table for the balcony. Is it possible?

Use pipes with a thickness of no more than 10 mm, welding them crosswise and without using the bottom trim. The table can be folded.

There is a dining table with a frame made of a profile pipe, a wooden tabletop. What chairs should I choose for it? Maybe make it in the same style, with a frame made of pipes?

It all depends on the style of the kitchen or dining room. Stools made from profile pipes look good, but they have a drawback - they are too heavy. Choose neutral wooden chairs in a matching color scheme, they are much more practical.

How to strengthen the structure of the table without using too thick a pipe?

The simplest option is a tabletop with a reinforced frame. For maximum stability, install 2 welded rectangles instead of legs, connecting them with a crossbar.

Is it possible to make a bed frame from profile pipes?

Of course, but it will turn out very heavy. To make the structure lighter, it is worth abandoning the headboard, welding only the frame for the mattress on legs with lining of the sides. To secure the mattress you will need a slatted bottom.

Profile specifics

Specifics of the profile and advantages of gazebos made from it

A structure made using a profile looks quite original. This kind of construction can be done in the shortest possible time. The main condition is to have experience working with welding equipment.

The source material from which the frame of the gazebo is made is pipes, in most cases with a rectangular or square cross-section, made of carbon and low-alloy steel.

The raw materials are characterized by sufficient strength, multifaceted resistance to harmful influences and practicality.

Profile pipe for gazebo

Profile pipes, taken as the basis for the gazebo, give the building a number of positive characteristics. The main ones are:

  • low specific weight of the structure (prevents the preparation of a powerful foundation);
  • long period of operation;
  • reasonable cost of material;
  • fire resistance;
  • no need for periodic repairs.
