Wooden furniture for the gazebo: DIY table and bench

A gazebo is one of the main attributes of country life. Here you can relax, play board games, chat with friends, and have small family gatherings. But for all this to become possible, a table and benches must be installed in it. Garden furniture not only fulfills its main function, but also creates an atmosphere of warmth and comfort.

A small wooden hexagonal table will fit into any gazebo

Types of tables for gazebos

Based on the shape of the tabletop, there are 3 types of tables:

  • square (rectangular);
  • round;
  • polygonal.

Round tables are considered the most popular and convenient. The smooth shape makes them ideal for all types of gazebos.

Several materials can be used in the manufacture of tables: metal, plastic, wood, as well as their combinations. Each option has its pros and cons. Metal tables are durable, but they are expensive and get very hot in hot weather. Plastic options are inexpensive, but will not last long.

The combination of wooden tabletops or seats with brick bases looks very interesting, especially if the same materials were used in the construction of the gazebo.

Wood is considered the most affordable material for making gazebo furniture. Wood is environmentally friendly, easy to process, and has an affordable price. A wooden table can be bought at any specialized retail outlet, but the owner’s special pride will be furniture made with his own hands.

Which geometric shape of the structure to choose?

When a decision is made on a suitable form, first of all it is necessary to determine the dimensions of the future structure. The choice and arrangement of furniture depends on this.

Recommended room height - 2.3-2.7 m. Area - from 10 to 20 sq.m.

Popular types of geometric shapes for summer buildings are given below.

Square

The same dimensions of walls and other elements simplify the creation of the structure.

Budget options for square-shaped wooden and plastic gazebos can be purchased ready-made in disassembled form. The assembly process will take a couple of hours.

Those who want to build with their own hands will not have to spend a lot of effort. Even beginners can handle this. To simplify the work, it is worth drawing up a construction diagram in advance and calculating the dimensions of all parts.

The frame is made of metal and wood. The roof is covered with flexible tiles, ondulin, and metal tiles. The walls are decorated with forging and carved wooden figures.

Rectangular

This form is more common than others.

Average area - 10 sq. m. You can put a barbecue or oven.

A simple rectangular gazebo has maximum free space, making it possible to conveniently place furniture and separate the kitchen and dining areas.

They are made from:

  • wood;
  • bricks;
  • metal frame covered with polycarbonate, corrugated sheeting;
  • plastic;
  • forging

Several people can comfortably fit inside - this is a good place for summer celebrations and celebrations.

Round

Quite a rare form due to the complexity of construction.

Popular materials:

  • forged metal;
  • brick;
  • tree.

The photo below shows an example of a wooden building - an open gazebo.

It is installed on a paved tile platform. The lower part of the walls has been replaced with carved wooden planks. The roof has tiles on top of the sheathing. Feature article: “Construction of a round gazebo.”

Polygonal

Despite the fact that the gazebo has many angles - from 5 to 12 - its shape resembles a round one.

Making every detail yourself is difficult. Therefore, such structures are often sold prefabricated with segments already selected to size. This design can be assembled quickly and easily by craftsmen.

pentagonal

Many companies offer portable pentagonal modular gazebos. The material is:

  • wood (boards, picket fence);
  • metal frame covered with polycarbonate;
  • forged metal;
  • plastic.

Convenient for seasonal country holidays.

The disadvantage is poor capacity. Not intended for large numbers of people. More suitable for family tea parties.

hexagonal

This can be either a summer shed or a glazed garden house with a stove and chimney.

The hexagonal shape and original decoration give the building an impressive appearance and emphasize the status of the owners.

The photo above shows a budget hexagonal design, where benches are attached to the walls to save space.

octagonal

This form is characterized by having more free space inside than previous types. A dining table with chairs can fit here. A convenient place for celebrations in nature.

Can be decorated in different styles.

On large areas, a gazebo combined with a swimming pool, bathhouse, and summer kitchen looks interesting.

Preliminary preparation

Approximate diagram of the construction of a wooden rectangular table and bench

Before starting work, you need to consider several important points:

  1. The size of the table must match the design of the gazebo. If the space is small, then it is better to go with the classic version - a tabletop fixed on a durable stand. If space allows, you can install a table on two supports.
  2. The shape of the tabletop should be in harmony with the configuration of the gazebo. For example, polygonal or round tables are considered a good option for 6-sided buildings.
  3. The optimal table height is about 80 cm. But here you need to focus on the average height of family members.
  4. It is advisable to think in advance whether the table will be portable or stationary and decide on the number of legs.
  5. The size and placement of furniture should not impede movement within the building.

Portable furniture is a great option for small gazebos. If necessary, it can simply be removed or moved to another location.

Shop with flowers

Photo - ladies will like this building; you can relax and water the flowers, combining business with pleasure

This bench has small flower beds on the sides. For the bench you will need two strong boxes where the soil with plants will be placed.

They must be strong to withstand the weight and impact of earth and moisture. Also need to be large enough for the plants. The bottom of the boxes may be missing so that the roots, especially if the plants grow large, can go deep into the ground.

The bench is installed on the edge of the drawers. If you make a box with a bottom, then drill drainage holes in it. The finished design is shown in the photo below.

Tools

To make a wooden table you will need a certain set of tools:

  • electric or chainsaw (you can use a simple hacksaw);
  • chisel;
  • axe;
  • hammer;
  • electric cutter;
  • roulette;
  • sandpaper.

If you have the skills, you can easily make a wooden table of any shape with your own hands.

Some nuances of the installation process should be taken into account:

  1. Fasteners must be made of stainless materials.
  2. Nails can become loose over time, so assembly is best done using anodized wood screws.
  3. To extend the service life, wooden parts must be treated with special antiseptics.
  4. If the upcoming work is new to the master, then it is better to practice on unnecessary parts in advance.

Wooden portable table

A portable table made of boards is a strong, stable, reliable and lightweight structure. The dimensions of the tabletop must correspond to the dimensions of the gazebo itself.

Assembly steps

Table top:

  1. Mark the required length of the boards.
  2. Cut the material.
  3. Secure the boards.
  4. Using self-tapping screws, install several guide bars on the back side of the structure.

Legs:

  1. The table legs are made of the same material as the tabletop.
  2. The number of supports depends on the size and shape of the table.
  3. The legs of the structure must be stable.
  4. When installing supports, the floor level should be taken into account. The slope of the surface must be compensated by different lengths of the legs.

Each element of the future table must be thoroughly polished and treated with an antiseptic!

At the end of assembly, at least 2 layers of varnish must be applied to the product.

Timber table

For work you will need from three to five beams.

An example of a rectangular table made of natural timber

A strong and reliable table can only be made from even beams that are carefully adjusted to each other.

Stages of work

Legs:

  1. Measure 4 pieces of timber: two – from 0.5 to 1 meter wide, two – slightly smaller.
  2. The long beam will become the base of the legs, and the shorter one will lie on top.
  3. Adjust the material to each other, connect with wood glue or self-tapping screws. For reliability, the bottom side can be secured with slats.
  4. Cut another beam equal to the length of the tabletop.
  5. Lay it across the assembled structure.
  6. Further collection proceeds in the same way as points 1-3, only the shorter beam is laid first, and then the longer one.
  7. Fasten the parts with wood glue.
  8. Lay and secure wide thick boards on top.

To ensure that the wood sets as firmly as possible, let the table stand under heavy pressure (for example, under several bags of mortar) for several days.

Finally, you need to sand the sharp corners and sand the surface with sandpaper. Don’t forget about protective equipment: water-repellent compounds and parquet varnish, which will extend the life of the table for several decades.

Tree stump table - simplicity and originality in one bottle

Table for a summer house made from a stump - an original solution for decorating a gazebo

A table for a gazebo can be made from an ordinary stump. This will be an original and environmentally friendly design that will appeal to lovers of everything unusual.

  1. To work you will need a wide stump. If there is nothing suitable at the dacha, then the material can be found in the nearest forest.
  2. Dry the workpiece.
  3. Using a chisel and chisel, remove the bark from the stump.
  4. Use a plane to level the surface.
  5. Sand it with sandpaper.
  6. Clean cracks from dust.
  7. Cover the structure with varnish or wood paint.

To avoid damaging the floor of the gazebo, you need to use wheels or a furniture stand to install the table.

Such a table in itself is an original decoration for the gazebo, but for additional decoration you can use mosaics or pieces of tiles.

General recommendations for selection

The design of the furniture must be in harmony with the design of the gazebo itself. You also need to choose the right size. For a small gazebo, compact, light furniture is suitable. For a big one – massive and solid.

Invalid Displayed Gallery

When choosing furnishings, you should be guided, among other things, by purely practical considerations. The furniture material must be resistant to adverse environmental factors.

What kind of furniture should be for a gazebo? Photo of a practical lightweight kit

In an open gazebo at the dacha, you should not use furnishings with fabric coverings. In this case, this material will retain its attractive appearance only until the first rain.

Among other things, there is always a lot of dust in this building. Therefore, it is better to choose easy-to-care furniture for the gazebo.

Round table

A round wooden table is one of the most popular solutions for a gazebo.

If the gazebo is small, then you can install a round table on one leg. assembly steps :

  1. To make a support, you need to take a beam with a cross-section of at least 10 by 10 cm.
  2. Drill a hole in the lower part of the future leg.
  3. Clean the recess from dust and coat it with epoxy glue.
  4. Insert a wooden or metal pin into the hole (it will help keep the table on the floor).
  5. Drill a hole in the floor.
  6. Make 4 sawn spacers and fix them to the support using self-tapping screws or glue.

Table top:

  1. Take a tongue and groove board and assemble a rectangular or square shield from it.
  2. Drive a small nail into the middle of the structure.
  3. Build a homemade compass. To do this, take a long thread, tie one end to a nail, and the other to a pencil. Stretch the thread and draw a circle on the tabletop.
  4. Cut the workpiece.
  5. Nail 3-5 cross members to the underside of the structure.
  6. Connect the support and the tabletop.
  7. Fix the structure to the floor.

A few more original ideas

The technology for making a folding chair was given above and, perhaps, not everyone can master it. And making several of these folding chairs will take a lot of time. Therefore, now we will look at simpler methods for making furniture for a gazebo.

One way is to use cuttings from large trees. You need to cut the trunk on both sides to secure the wooden bench. On two large saw cuts you can install a massive tabletop, which is also easy to make. Connecting the tabletop to the base is very simple. Next, you will need to process the wood and install the entire structure in the gazebo. The photo shows how simple this design is.

If you need less massive benches, then saw the trunk lengthwise into 2 parts. Make recesses in it on the bottom side for installation on cuts of a smaller diameter. Place the trunk on the “legs” in the gazebo and process the wood.

Do you only have hemp at your disposal? Don’t be upset, your original gazebo can be decorated with furniture made from them. Small stumps will be used as chairs, and a large stump will be used for the base of the table. The photo shows a tabletop in the form of a large saw cut, but if you don’t find one, then it can be made from a wooden panel, cut, for example, into a round shape.

A built-in table in a gazebo can be built from bricks that you may have left over after construction. This design will serve you faithfully for many years.

To make this table you need to follow step by step instructions:

  • First of all, strengthen the base for installing the table. Dig a small hole, fill the bottom with crushed stone and level it. Place a waterproofing layer on it. Then fill the base with concrete.
  • Now make a square table base. Dimensions: 2–3 bricks in length and 6–8 in height.
  • Place the tabletop on this base. This could be a wooden shield or a stone blank. It all depends on your financial capabilities.

A simple wooden table will not take you much time to make, but will last a long time. Its approximate dimensions are shown in the photo.

Manufacturing sequence:

  • Make a drawing. Prepare tools/materials.
  • The supports can have different shapes, but as a rule, X-shaped legs are used. To make them, fasten 2 bars together in the center at an angle of 45º. For reliability, they should be reinforced on top with additional strips.
  • The X-shaped legs should be connected by two bars, which are installed parallel to each other and correspond to the length of the table.
  • The tabletop can be made from 5–7 boards. Install it on the prepared supports. Use furniture corners as fasteners.

Hexagon table

A table on two legs with six sides is an excellent choice for a small gazebo.

The manufacture of a hexagonal table is preceded by certain preparation. It is necessary to draw up an accurate drawing of the product, make calculations, cut and process the material. Build process:

  1. Draw a circle on the ground and mark the corners of the future tabletop.
  2. Using self-tapping screws, secure the outer row of boards.
  3. Take 6 boards and fix them to each other in the longitudinal direction according to the following scheme: one end is attached in the center, the other in the corners.
  4. Lay out transverse rows of boards, starting with the outer row.
  5. Make legs and secure them on the inside.

Mobile table

Mobile furniture in the gazebo - compact and light

The advantage of a mobile table is the ability to remove it for the winter (which will extend its service life). In addition, during friendly gatherings, the table can be removed from the gazebo, freeing up space for dancing or other purposes.

The installation of a mobile structure differs little from the assembly of a stationary one.

  1. Take 2 beams, the length of which is 8-10 cm less than the length of the tabletop.
  2. Fix the boards with self-tapping screws, making sure that there is a free distance of up to 5 cm to their ends.
  3. Screw the longitudinal bars to the tabletop.

Transverse and longitudinal bars must be fixed at right angles.

  1. Make 4 square legs and secure them with spacers.

Varieties

There are several types of country tables:

  1. Foldable. The legs of such a table can be removed or pressed against the tabletop. In some models, the work surface itself can also be folded in half.
  2. Transformers. This table does not fold easily, but can be converted into another piece of furniture, such as a garden bench. This in itself is convenient, but due to the large number of mechanisms, the thing may not last long.
  3. Stationary. An ordinary table without moving parts or mechanisms. Can be rectangular, round, hexagonal. The legs can be made of either wood or metal.

Benches for gazebos

Making a bench for a gazebo is an equally exciting process. If the standard dimensions are observed, it can easily fit 3 people.

Benches in the gazebo save space and help accommodate many guests

Assembly steps:

  1. Take boards 15 cm wide and 3.5 cm thick (the length of the material should correspond to the length of the wall along which the bench will be installed).
  2. Process the workpieces with an electric planer.
  3. Round and sand sharp corners.
  4. Cut a piece of timber (5 by 5) along the length of the boards.
  5. Also prepare 2 pieces of timber, each 40 cm long.
  6. Take 5 bars measuring 30 by 50 mm and cut off the corners of each on one side - you will get supports under the seat.
  7. Saw off five 50-centimeter bars and trim the corners on both sides.
  8. Paint and varnish all parts.
  9. After drying, screw the timber (5 by 5) to the gazebo posts.
  10. Install 2 supports under the beam.
  11. Fix the prepared stops on top of the beam after 50-70 cm.
  12. Place a special spacer under each stop.
  13. Secure the boards to the supports.

Making wooden tables and benches for a gazebo with your own hands is a great chance to show off your skills and save your family budget. The only thing is not to forget about following safety rules and choosing reliable and durable materials. And then every visit to the gazebo will become a pleasant reminder of your own skill.

Choosing material

To make the table for the gazebo not only comfortable, but also attractive, you need to choose the right material. The optimal solution would be timber and planed boards without flying knots. The timber will be used to create the frame of the table, and the board will be used to make the tabletop. By the way, it is better to use hardwood (birch, oak, beech, etc.) for the countertops. You can use a ready-made furniture board with a thickness of 25-40 mm to make a tabletop. The tabletop is the “face” of the table, so it should look impressive.

To make the table frame and legs, you will need a beam with a cross-section of at least 50x50 mm.
